aḥku (p. 1) pres. கிறேன், past அஃகி னேன், fut. வேன், inf. அஃக, v. n. To diminish, shrink; be shortened as a vowel; be reduced, as wealth, &c. குறைய. 2. To become closed or compressed, as a flower, umbrella, &c. சுருங்க. 3. To be acute, refined, as knowledge, நுண்மையாக. (p.) அஃகியதனிநிலை, s. The letter ஃ shortened. அஃகியவறிவு, s. akppṭ (p. 2) inf. [ex அகம், inside, et. படு.] To be obtained, கிடைக்க. [with dat.] as அது எனக்ககப்படாது. 2. [with nom.] To be ensnared, entangled, உட்பட as தந்திரத்தில் நானகப்பட்டேன். 3. [with nom. and dat.] To be within one's power, influence, advice, &c., வசப்பட as ஒருவனுக்கும் நானகப்ப டேன். 4. To submit, become subordinate, கீழ்ப்பட as கட்டளைக்கவனகப்படான். (c.) அகப்படுத்த, inf. aklu (p. 2) --அகல், கிறேன், அகன்றேன், வேன், அகல, v. n. To leave, yield to, retire from, நீங்க. 2. To prosper, increase, அதிகரிக்க. 3. To remove from, become distant, பிரிய. 4. To spread, widen, extend, பரவ. 5. To escape, get away, விலக; ex அகல், width. அகலநிற்றல். Standing afar off. அகலர், s. Low persons, out-casts, persons excluded from society, சண் டாளர். (p.) அகலல்--அகறல், v. noun. The state of being removed or separated. 2. A going or wearing off. அகலுகை--அகல்கை, v. noun. Going out of the way, stepping aside, retirement. அகல்வு, s. Wideness, extension, expanse. அகல்வோர், s. Out-casts who must keep at a distance. அகன்றவறிவு, s. acru (p. 5) --அசர், கிறேன், அசர்ந்தேன், வேன், அசர, v. n. To become faint, careless, drowsy, &c., for அயரு. (c.) அசர்ந்துபோனான், he was fatigued. 88)

aṭngku (p. 7) கிறேன், அடங்கினேன், வேன், அடங்க, v. n. To obey, yield, become subject to, be subdued, கீழ்ப்படிய. 2. To shrink, become compressed, be reduced in size or vigor, be crammed into, condensed, குறைய. 3. To recede, be repressed, suppressed, restrained, ஒதுங்க. 4. To settle, subside, be laid--as dust, அமைய. 5. To be embodied, incorporated, திரள. 6. To be reduced low--as the system when near death, &c., சாக, ஒடுங்க. அடங்கல், s. All, the whole, மு ழுமை. புரமடங்கலுந்தெறுகணை. The arrow which destroyed the whole of the three cities. (In காந்தம்.) அடங்கலர்--அடங்காதார், s. Foes, insubordinate persons, பகைவர். (p.) அடங்கன்முறை, s. A book which treats of the ceremonies of the Saiva sect, தேவாரம். அடங்காப்பற்று--அடங்கார்பதி, s. A rebellious province, கீழ்ப்படியாதார் இருக் கும் ஊர். அடங்காமாரி, s. An audacious, contumacious, insubordinate woman, மு ரண்டானவள். அடங்காமை, neg. v. noun. Insubordinateness, rudeness, haughtiness, untractableness, கீழ்ப்படியாமை. அடங்காவாரிதி, s. Urine, மூத்தி ரம். 2. Sea salt, கடலுப்பு. பிராணனடங்க, inf. To faint, be in a trance as dead. 56)

aṭimai (p. 8) s. Slavery, bondage, service, தொண்டுபடுந்தன்மை. 2. Slave, servant, devotee, தொண்டானவன். (c.) அடிமைகொள்ள, inf. To receive, or use one as a slave, or servant. அடிமைபூண, inf. aṭu (p. 8) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [used with the accusative.] To approach, approximate, come in contact with, கிட்ட. 2. To be near, close, adjacent, proximate, to propinquate, சேர. 3. To adhere, unite with, apply for protection, சார. 4. v. n. (with dative.) To belong, pertain, relate to, be fit for, suitable to, deserving of, conformable to, becoming, உரித்தாக. 5. To happen, occur, சம்பவிக்க. எனக்கடுத்தவர்கள், The people associated with or belonging to me, out own people, kindred. அவள் இவனுக்கடுத்தபெண். She is a suitable woman for him. ஒரு சொல்லிரண்டுமூன்று நான்கெல்லை முறைய டுக்கும். The same word will be repeated twice, thrice, or four times. (Nun.) அடாதது, appel. n. That which is improper, unfit. அவனுன் வீட்டிலே வால் அடாது. It is bad for you to have him come to your house. அடாநிந்தை, s. Injustice, unfounded reproach. அடுகிடை--அடுகிடைபடுகிடை, v. noun. [prov.] Lying down at a person's house determined not to leave till the thing asked is obtained, எழும்பாக்கிடை. அடுக்க, inf. [used adv.] Near, near at hand. அடுத்தடுத்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To reiterate. அடுத்ததண்டனை, s. Deserved punishment. அடுத்ததின்றன்மையான்மாவாகும். The associations of the soul determine its character. (In வீராகமம்.) அடுத்தவீடு, s. The next house. அடுத்தார், s. To arrange many things in rows, pile up in order. அடுக்கானகன்னி, s. A perfect woman. அடுக்குக்குலைக்க, inf. To put in disorder, as things in a row, pile, &c. அடுக்குக்குலைய, inf. To become disordered, deranged as business affairs, to go to decay as one's circumstances. அடுக்குத்தீபம், s. A kind of lamp in temples, used by the priests before the idol. அடுக்கத்தொடர், s. Repetition of a word or phrase two or three times, as, பாம்புபாம்பு. அடுக்குப்பண்ண, inf. To arrange, put in order, prepare. அடுக்குப்பார்க்க, inf. [prov.] To rehearse as stage players, previous to the public exhibition. (ஒத்திக்கைபார்க்க is used on the continent.) அடுக்குப்பானை, s. Pots arranged, especially in a cook-house, one upon another for various uses. அடுக்குமல்லிகை, s. A species of the Arabian Jasmine, ஓர்மல்லிகை. அடுக்குமுள்ளி, s. A species of the முள்ளி shrub. அடுக்குமெத்தை, s. A couch with pillows placed one upon another. 2. A house built of different lofts, or stories. அடுக்கூமத்தை, s. A species of the ஊமத்தை. 13)
