kirupai (p. 111) s. Grace, beneficence, benignity, mercy, kindness, compassion, benevolence, கருணை. Wils. p. 244. KRUPA. என்மீதில்கிருபையாயிருக்கிறார்--என்னைக்கிருபையா கப்பார்க்கிறார். He is gracious towards me. கிருபாகடாட்சம், s. Benign or gracious looks; compassion, benevolence, கருணை. கிருபாகரன், s. A man of universal benevolence; one who is the seat of mercy or grace, கிருபைக்கிருப்பிடமானோன். கிருபாசமுத்திரம், s. One who is a sea of grace, கிருபைக்கடல். கிருபாசனம், s. Mercy-seat; God--as the centre and seat of mercy and grace. கிருபாநோக்கம், s. A gracious look--as that of the guru on his disciple in his official capacity, as a representative of the deity himself in human form, assumed for the purpose of dispelling the disciple's mental darkness, &c., கருணைநோக்கம். கிருபாமகத்துவம், s. The greatness of mercy. கிருபாமூர்த்தி, s. He whose very shape is mercy, கிருபாசொரூபி. 2. The merciful God, கடவுள். 3. The god who has assumed a shape calculated for the exercise of mercy, கிருபையாலவதரித்தோன். கிருபாலு--கிருபாளு s. A kind, compassionate, gracious person, கிருபையுடை யவன். Wils. p. 244. KRUPALU. கிருபைக்கடல், s. A sea of mercy, கிரு பாசமுத்திரம். கிருபைக்கண், s. A benign or merciful look, அருள்விழி. கிருபைக்கிருப்பிடம், s. One celebrated for philanthropy and general benevolence; lit. the seat of grace. கிருபைகூர--கிருபைசெய்ய--கிருபை பண்ண--கிருபைபுரிய inf. To be gracious, compassionate, benign; to exercise favor or kind feelings. 17) *

kēṇmai (p. 139) s. Friendship, intimacy, intercourse, சினேகம். 2. (நிக.) Kindness, favor, a beneficent look, கண்ணோட்டம். 3. Relationship, consanguinity, உறவு; [ex கேள், s. ஊதியமென்ப தொருவற்குப் பேதையார் கேண்மை யொரீஇவிடல். It is good for a man not to associate with fools. 35) *

caṟ (p. 173) adj. [A sanscrit prefix.] Good, right, excellent, virtuous, &c., நல்ல, உச்சித. W. p. 884. SAT. சற்கருமம்--சற்கன்மம், s. Good deeds, charitable or meritorious acts. See கரு மம். சற்கன்மபரிபாகம், s. The maturing of works of merit performed in previous births, supposed to promote the illumination of the soul, and to lead to the use of means for its deliverance from transmigrations. (p.) சற்கரிக்க, inf. To treat hospitably, to entertain, உபசரிக்க. 2. To be kind, polite, civil, obliging; [ex சற்காரம்.] சற்காரம், s. Kindness, beneficence, hospitality, civility, உபசாரம். W. p. 884. SATKARA. (p.) சற்காரியம், s. Good things, virtuous deeds, pursuits, &c., meritorious actions. சற்காரியவித்தை, s. The four incidents connected with births as necessary for the performance of actions, namely. 1. தனு, body for the performance of actions. 2. கரணம், intellectual faculties, the senses, &c. 3. புவனம், word, locality--as the theatre of actions. 4. போகம், suffering and enjoyment. (p.) சற்குணம், s. An obliging disposition, amiableness, good nature, benevolence, religion. (c.) சற்குணன், appel. n. An amiable, virtuous, obliging person. சற்குரு, s. A guru who seeks the good of his disciples, நற்குரு. 2. The deity--as the teacher of souls, according to their various states. (c.) சற்சங்கம், s. Good society. (p.) சர்சனர், s. [prop. சச்சனர்.] Good or pious men. (c.) சற்சலம், s. Good, pure water, நல்ல சலம். (p.) (சது.) சற்சூத்திரர், s. Superior sudras who have advanced to the கிரியை, or second degree in the Saiva religion; also called சைவர். (p.) சற்பாத்திரம், s. A good vessel, i.e. a worthy, pious, virtuous man, ஒழுக்க முடையோன். W. p. 885. SATPATRA. சற்பிரசாதம், s. A divine gift, a boon, தேவப்பிரசாதம். 2. A sacred offering, நிவே தனம். 3. [in Christ. usage.] Sacrament of the Lord's supper, நற்கருணை. See பிரசா தம். An auspicious or benign planet--as the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus. (p.) சுபக்ஷேமம், s. Sound health--as சுக சேமம். சுபசகுனம், s. A good omen, நற்சகு னம். சுபசொரூபம், s. Benignant appearance or manifestation, &c. (p.) சுபசோபனம், s. Joyful tidings, or events--as of the birth of a child, or of a girl's becoming marriageable. (c.) சுபசேதி--சுபசெய்தி, s. Joyful tidings, happy events. (p.) சுபதினம், s. (Astrologically.) A fortunate day, நல்லநாள். 2. (R.) A mode of salutation somewhat like 'Good day' but in implies, that the meeting is fortunate. (Modern.) சுபத்தானம்--சுபஸ்தானம், s. [in astrol.] An auspicipus or favorable position of a planet; [ex தானம்.] (p.) சுபமங்களம், s. Auspicious benediction, by brahmans, &c. சுபமஸ்து, s. Salutation, success, prosperity; a sanscrit term of benediction at the opening of a treatise, &c., மங்களச்சொல்; [ex அஸ்து.] சுபமிருத்து, s. A good or auspicious death. (p.) சுபயோகம், s. Auspicious yogas, being eighteen out of twenty-seven. (See யோகம்.) 2. The conjunction of an auspicious day of the week, phase of the moon and lunar constellation. (p.) சுபவசனம்--சுபவாக்கு--சுபவாசகம் --சுபவார்த்தை, s. Auspicious language; agreeable, or propitious words. சுபவாதனை, s. Blissful experience of the soul; divine illumination, spiritual enjoyment. A benevolent, gracious person. தயாபரன், s. (voc. தயாபரா.) The gracious god. 2. (fem. தயாபரி.) A beneficent man. நரசீலதயாபரர். God, who is bountiful towards men. தயாமூர்்த்தி, s. The incarnation of benevolence. தயாவிருத்தி, s. Increase of grace, கிரு பைமிகுதல். 2. The fourteen acts of beneficence, தயாவிருத்தி, 14.--The first seven relate to the soul, the other seven to the body. Of the soul; 1. களாபடனம், education, communication of knowledge, கல் விபயிற்றுகை; 2. வியாதாகாரம், comfort to the afflicted, consolation of mind, துயர்தீர்க்கை; 3. நிர்க்கத்தண்டனம், relieving from punishment, தண்டம்நீக்குகை; 4. சந்தேகவாரணம், removing doubts, contingency, &c., ஐயந் தேற்றுகை; 5. அன்னியகுணசகனம், hearing of the superiority of others without envy, and enduring their infirmities with patience, பிறந்குணத்தழுக்காறின்றிப்பொறுத்தல்; 6. பரதிருதுனயோகம், forgetting the evils inflicted by others and seeking to do them good, பிறராற்செய்யப்படுந்தீமையைமறந்தூன்றிநி னைக்கை; 7. பார்த்ததேவப்பிராத்திதம், praying for the prosperity and good of others, பிறர்நிமித்தந்தேவனைவழிபடுதல். Those regarding the body or சத்தாங் கோபகராம் are: 1. அன்னம், food, giving boiled rice, உணவு; 2. பானம், drink, குடிக்க நீர்; 3. அம்பரம், raiment, வஸ்திரம்; 4. மந்திரம், a dwelling, இடம்; 5. தாசபாலனம். preservation from slavery, அடிமைகாத்தல்; 6. காராமயத்திரிதயமோசனம், removing the three afflictions of captivity, சிறைநோய் மூன்றுந்தீர்த்தல். viz.: restraint from the calls of nature, மலசலவாதை; corporal punishments, சரீரதண்டனை; chains, fetters, விலங்கு போடல். 7. சவச்சேமம், burial, பிரேதமடக்கல். There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *

Prong of a trident fork, சூலமுதலிய வற்றின்றலை. 11. A form of the ablative of place, ஏழனுருபு. தலைக்கொருபணங்கொடு. Give each one a fanam. தலைநில்லாப்பருவம். The time when the head cannot support itself; i. e. infancy. தலைக்குத்தலைபெரியதனம். Every one is master. தலைமறைவாயிருக்கிறான். He hides his head-is concealed. தலையிலைகடை. Beginning, middle and end. தலையாலேநடக்கிறான். He acts proudly, insolently, wickedly, &c. அவனுக்குத்தலைப்பத்தா. Has he ten heads? Is he equal to ten men? பெருந்தலைகளெல்லாமொன்றாய்கூடின. The great heads, big-wigs, are all collected together. தலையாலேமலைபிளப்பான். He would cleave a mountain with his head. தலைகட்ட, inf. To tie the hair. 2. To make selvedge of mats, cloth, &c. தலைகவிழ--தலைகவிழ்க்க, inf. To hang the head , either naturally, or through shame. See கவிழ், v. தலைகனத்துக்கொள்ள--தலைகனக்க, s. See கன, v. தலைக்கனம், s. Heaviness in the head. தலைகாட்ட, inf. To show the head, as a snake out of a hole. 2. To attend a festive ceremony, for a short time, out of respect. தலைகாட்டாதேஓடிப்போ. Don't step here, better go. தலைகீழ், s. Upside-down, topsy-turvy, inverted, out of order. தலைகீழாக--தலைகீழாய், adv. Head long, precipitately, as a flow of water. 2. Absurdly, improperly. தலைகீழாய்படம்பண்ணினான். He learnt his lesson perfectly. தலைகீழாய்நடக்க. To do things in a wrong way, &c., 2. To be haughty, arrogant, assuming, insolent, wicked. தலைகீழாய்நிற்க. To persist in an improper request. 2. To take extreme pains for a thing unattainable. தலைகுனிய, inf. To pay respect. 2. (lit.) As தலைகவிழ, to incline the head. தலைகொடுக்க, inf. To bear, to suffer, (commonly in the negative.) 2. To interpose assistance, to undertake the whole business. தலைகொய்ய, inf. To behead. (p.) தலைக்கடை--தலைக்கடைவாயில், s. Front gate, or entrance--oppos. to புழைக் கடை. தலைக்கட்ட, inf. To perform the ceremony of putting on the turban again after mourning. 2. To succeed, be completed, accomplished. 3. To prosper, thrive, grow powerful, கைகூட. எடுத்தகாரியந்தலைக்கட்டிவந்தது. The thing was accomplished. தலைக்கட்டு, v. noun. The first of a range of buildings. 2. The head of a family. (c.) 3. [loc.] The ceremony of putting on the turban, as above. தலைக்கட்டுக்கிரண்டுபணம்வரிவாங்கினான். He received two fanams tribute from each house in the first range. தலைக்கட்டுவரி, s. The chief family in a place. தலைக்குத்து, s. Headache. See குத்து. தலைக்குமேலே, Above, over, or upon the head. 2. Superior to one. 3. Exceeding all bounds--as price, anger, shame or pride. தங்களுடையசொல்என்தலைக்குமேலே. I take your word upon my head; i. e. shall obey. தலைமேற்றலையா. Treating of subjects out of the usual order for some particular purpose, one of the தந்திரவுத்தி. தலைதடுமாற்றம், s. Confusion, derangement, disorder. தலைதட்ட, inf. Hanging the head through grief, chagri &c. தலையீற்று, v. noun. The first calving, yeaning, &c. 2. The firstling of cattle. தலையீற்றுப்பசு--தலையீற்றுக்கடாரி, s. A cow that has calved but once. தலையுடைக்க, inf. To break the head; i. e. to rack the brains and take great trouble in calculations, intricate business, &c. எவ்வளவாய்த்தலையுடைத்துக்கொண்டாலுங்கே ட்கிறானில்லை. Destiny, fate, as supposed to be written in the head by Brahma, according to the actions of previous births, தலைவிதி. 2. Signature to a bond or instrument, inserted at the beginning. 3. The heading or title of a book. 4. The first or capital letter in a writing. தலையேறுதண்டம், s. [prov.] Punishment above what one is able to bear. 2. (fig.) Excessive trouble or labour; compulsory service, அநியாயதண்டம். தலையைக்கொடுக்க--தலைகொடுக்க, inf. To step forward in one's behalf, in a case of exigency. 2. To expose one's self to danger for another. தலையைச்சுற்றியெறிய, inf. To detest utterly; to reject with disgust, disdain and scorn. தலையைநடுக்க, inf.
