kṇicm (p. 89) s. Estimate, conjecture, rough calculation, guess, மதிப்பு. 2. Honor, dignity, respectability, worth, weight of character, கனம். 3. Weight in the hand, size, bulk, measure, &c., in a limited sense, அளவு. This word is a corruption of கணிதம். ஒருபாக்குக்கணிசம்அவின். Opium as much as a betel-nut. கைக்கணிசத்துக்குத்தூக்கிப்பார்க்க. To weigh in the hand. கணிசக்காரன், s. A respectable person, மதிப்புடையோன். கணிசஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To give an estimate. கணிசமறிய, inf. To know a person's rank, respectability, property, learning. கணிசமாய்க்கொண்டுபோக, inf. To take away a considerable quantity. கணிசமாய்க்கொண்டுபோக--கணி சமாய்நடத்த, inf. To treat one respectfully. கணிசம்பார்க்க, inf. To estimate, to conjecture. 2. To weigh a thing in the hand. 3. To be scrupulous or tenacious of one's own dignity. 4. To discriminate between persons in respect of caste, rank, &c. 5. To pry into or look after a person's rank, respectability, &c. 5)

kāy (p. 104) s. Unripe fruits, fruits, that do not grow mellow by ripening--as grains, nuts, &c., கனிக்காய். 2. (c.) A callous tumour, an excrescence, a wart, a corn, a cicatrice from a wound, காய்ப்பு. 3. An unripe boil, &c., காய்ப்பரு. 4. A piece at chess, a die, சொக்கட்டான்காய். கட்டியின்னங்காயாயிருக்கிறது. The tumour is not yet ripe. காயவியல், s. A curry carelessly prepared with unripe fruits. காய்கறி, s. Fruits, vegetables and the like for preparing curry. காய்காய்க்க, inf. To form as a fruit; to produce fruit, to bear fruit. காய்காய்க்கிறமரம், s. A tree that bears fruit, not a barren tree. காய்க்கடுக்கன், s. [prov.] An ear-ring with a sacred seed fastened in it, for a bead, from which, if water fall on the body, in bathing, &c., it is deemed very meritorious, உருத்திராட்டக்கடுக்கன். காய்க்குலை, s. A bunch of unripe fruits. காய்ச்சீர், s. [in prosody.] Any of the four metrical feet ending in காய்காய்; also, a metrical foot equivalent in measure to a foot in காய். See சீர். காய்த்தானியம், s. The nine kinds of grains, called முதிரை, நவதானியம். 2. A shrub, கம்பளிகொண்டான், Morus Indica. காய்பறிக்க, inf. To pluck unripe fruits. காய்மடி, s. The thick, hard udder of a cow unfit for milk. காய்மடை, s. [prov.] An offering of fruits, commonly to a ferocious deity, கனிவர்க்கநிவேதனம். காய்ம்பனை, s. [prov.] A fruit-bearing palmyra tree, as distinguished from young trees and males, காய்க்கும்பனை. காய்வள்ளி, s. See வள்ளி. காய்வெட்டிக்கள், s. [prov]. Toddy from a Palmyra tree, the young fruits of which are cut off that the juice may flow from the stalk, காயைவெட்டி இறக்குங்கள். கருக்காய், s. Grain almost ripe. கருங்காய், s. Dark betel-nuts, not yet turned red. செங்காய், s. Fruits or grain turning yellow when ripening. பசுங்காய்--இளங்காய், s. Fruits just formed, tender grain. 2. immature fruit or grain. 90)

kāyccu (p. 104) கிறேன், காய்ச்சினேன், வேன், காய்ச்ச, v. a. [caus. of காய்.] To boil, prepare by boiling; to cook, காயச்செய்ய. 2. To heat --as iron, &c., by fire, இரும்புமுதலியனகாய்ச்ச. 3. To heat--as the sun, கனற்ற. 4. To dry, warm, &c.--as in the sun, or by putting near fire, உலர்த்த. 5. To scold, to reprove, கண்டிக்க. 6. [prov.] To dye, to tinge, as a cloth. துரை அவனை நன்றாய்க் காய்ச்சிப்போட்டார். The magistrate has sharply reprimanded him. காய்ச்சுக்கட்டி--காய்ச்சுண்டி s. The juice of young betel-nuts inspissated by boiling, and then dried, காசுக்கட்டி. (c.) (Ains. v. I, p. 65.)--Note. காய்ச்சு க்கட்டி, and காசுக்கட்டி may be from the foreign word Catechu, and not necessarily from காய்ச்சு the Tamil verb. காய் ச்சுண்டி is from the Portuguese, கச்சுண்டி. காய்ச்சுக்கல், s. A dyed or tinged stone a counterfeit gem. காய்ச்சுப்பு--காய்ச்சுலவணம், s. Salt obtained by boiling down salt water. காய்ச்சு, v. noun. Heating metal, stone &c.; boiling any liquid, இரும்புமுதலியனகா ய்ச்சுகை. இரண்டுகாய்ச்சுக் காய்ச்சிப்போட்டான். He has already heated the metal twice. இரும்புக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To heat a piece of iron. கஞ்சிகாய்ச்ச, inf. To boil or prepare rice-water. கஷாயங்காய்ச்ச, inf. To prepare a decoction. 94)

kuṟutl (p. 132) v. noun. [this word is little used excepting in the subjective and participles.] Cutting off-as in reaping, corpping, plucking, &c., தறித்தல். 2. Beating, bruising, pounding, குத்தல். To whet, to sharpen. கூராம்பாய்ச்சி--கூராம்பிளாச்சு, s. [prov.] A kind of pointed wooden shovel or stick for digging and loosening the earth; also, for other uses. கூர்சீவ, inf. To make pointed, to sharpen, கூராக்க. 2. [local.] To provoke, exasperate, பகைமூட்ட. கூர்சீவினபாக்கு, s. [local.] A scraped betel-nut. கூர்வாங்க, inf. To sharpen. (Rott.) 2. Rolls of cotton or flax prepared for spinning, பஞ்சுக்கொட்டை. 5. A plug or tent of cloth to widen the hole in the ear for jewels, திரி. 6. A kind of female ear ornament, ஓர்காதணி. 7. The knob of a wooden sandal, பாதகுறட்டின்குமிழ். 8. A pad for the head in carrying a load, சும்மாடு. 9. A bolster, a pillow; a cushion, தலையணை. 1. The pericarp of the lotus flower, with which the female body is compared for softness, தாமரைக்கொட்டை. 11. [prov.] The fruit buds of the jack tree, பலாப்பிஞ்சு. கொட்டைகட்ட, inf. To gamble with இருப்பை seeds, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. கொட்டைக்காய், s. A seedy or stony fruit; any fruit the stones or seeds of which are large, or numerous, in proportion to the pulp. கொட்டைக்கச்சி--கொட்டைக்கையில், s. [prov. vul.] The half of a cocoanut shell. See கொட்டங்கைச்சி. கொட்டைக்குவிட, inf. To let a plant go to seed. கொட்டைச்செத்தல்--கொட்டைத்தேங் காய், s. [prov.] A dry cocoanut in which the kernel rattles, கொப்பரைத்தேங்காய். கொட்டைநூற்க, inf. To spin cotton, flax, &c. கப்பலோடிப்பட்டகடன் கொட்டைநூற்றுத்தீரு மோ. Will the debt contracted by a ship merchant be paid by spinning cotton? கொட்டைபுதைக்க--கொட்டைதாழ்க்க, inf. To plant fruit stones. கொட்டைப்பாக்கு, s. An entire arekanut dried without boiling. கொட்டைப்புளி, s. Pulp of tamarind fruit with the stones. கொட்டைப்போட, inf. To place seeds in garden beds, or to bury palmyra stones in the ground to grow. 2. To form the fruit buds--as the jack tree. 3. [vul. local.] To die, சாக. கொட்டைப்பெட்டி, s. cottai (p. 211) s. That which is worm-eaten, decayed, injured by insects, புழு வண்டுமுத லியனஅரித்தது. 2. Defect in fruits, பழத்திற்சொ த்தை. 3. (fig.) The measure of an areca-nut--small, as to space, time, &c. பாக்களவுகொடுப்பேன். I will, give as much as an areca-nut will hold. பாக்கிடிக்க, inf. As பாக்குத்துவைக்க. பாக்கிலை, s. As பாக்குவெற்றிலை. (R.) பாக்குக்கக்கல், v. noun. [prov.] Chewed betel cast from he mouth. பாக்குக்கடிக்கிறநேரம், s. The measure of time, in which an areca-nut is bitten, meaning quickness. பாக்குக்கட்ட, inf. [prov.] To play with areca-nuts. பாக்குக்கண், s. The eye of an arecanut. பாக்குக்குலை, s. A bunch of arecanuts. பாக்குச்சாரம், s. Juice or essence of areca-nut, betel, &c. பாக்குச்சீவ, inf. To pare and cut in slices an areca-nut, for use. பாக்குச்சீவல்--பாக்குச்செதிள்--செதில், s. Areca-nut parings. பாக்குச்செருக்கல், v. noun. Being dizzy from chewing stupifying arecanuts. See செருக்கு, v. பாக்குத்தம்பலம், s. Chewed betel as spit out. 2. The red spittle of betel. பாக்குத்துவைக்க, inf. To pound areca-nut, betel-leaf, &c., in a mortar for old people. பாக்குப்பறித்தல், v. noun. Snatching betel-nut from the friends of the bridegroom, by a rival lover, at the bride's house; deemed an insult similar to taking away the bride. பாக்குப்பிளவு, s. A slice or arecanut. பாக்குப்புரையேற, inf. To cough from obstructions in the throat, in chewing the areca-nut. பாக்குப்பை--பாக்குவெற்றிலைப்பை, s. A betel-pouch. பாக்குப்போட, inf. To take betel, as தாம்பூலம்போட. பாக்குவெட்டி, appel. n. A kind of scissors for cutting areca-nuts in slices. பாக்குவெற்றிலை, s. Areca-nut, and betel. See பாக்குப்பை. பாக்குவெற்றிலைக்கூட்டு, s.
