A creeper with a very fragrant flower, a species of சண்ப கம். which see. கொடிச்சுற்றிக்கொண்டுபிறக்க, inf. To be born with the cord of the placenta round the neck--deemed ominous to the maternal uncle. கொடிச்சூரை, s. A creeper species of சூரை. கொடித்திரும்ப, inf. To pass the meridian--spoken of the sun or other heavenly body. கொடித்திரும்பினவுடனே. [prov.] As soon as the sun has passed the meridian. கொடித்தட்டு, v. noun. A grey-hound, சோணங் கிநாய். கொடிநாவல், s. A kind of நாவல் tree. கொடிநெட்டி, s. The sensitive plant. கொடிபறத்தல், v. noun. The displaying of a flag; a term used for asserting dominion. கொடிபோட, inf. To hoist a flag or standard--as a conquerer; or as a signal for battle. 2. (fig.) To be firmly determined on a thing. கொடிப்பசளை--கொடிவயலை--கொடி வசளை, s. A creeper whose leaves are edible. coṭṭu (p. 210) s. A tap or knock with the end of the fingers on one's head, or with the beak of a crow, குட்டு. (Telugu usage.) 2. A drop, துளி. 3. [prov.] A small piece, slice, துண்டு. 4. (also சொட்டை.) Defect, blemish, stigma, &c., குற்றம். (c.) கள்ளிச்சொட்டுப்போலே. Milk as thick as that of the prickly pear. சொட்டுச்சொட்டாயிறங்க. To fall in drops. என்வேலைக்கொருசொட்டா. Can you point out a defect in my work? சொட்டுவைக்க, inf. To give a tap on one's head. சொட்டுப்போட, inf. To give a slap. 2. Areca-nut, betel-nut, துவர்க் காய், Areca catechu.--The different preparations of areca-nuts are அலகுபாக்கு or சாலியம்பாக்கு, களிப்பாக்கு, கொட்டைப்பாக்கு, வெட் டைப்பாக்கு, கூர்சீவினபாக்கு, தெற்கம்பாக்கு, ஆரங் கம்பாக்கு. பாக்களவு, s. The measure of an areca-nut--small, as to space, time, &c. பாக்களவுகொடுப்பேன். I will, give as much as an areca-nut will hold. பாக்கிடிக்க, inf. As பாக்குத்துவைக்க. பாக்கிலை, s. As பாக்குவெற்றிலை. (R.) பாக்குக்கக்கல், v. noun. [prov.] Chewed betel cast from he mouth. பாக்குக்கடிக்கிறநேரம், s. The measure of time, in which an areca-nut is bitten, meaning quickness. பாக்குக்கட்ட, inf. [prov.] To play with areca-nuts. பாக்குக்கண், s. The eye of an arecanut. பாக்குக்குலை, s. A bunch of arecanuts. பாக்குச்சாரம், s. Juice or essence of areca-nut, betel, &c. பாக்குச்சீவ, inf. To pare and cut in slices an areca-nut, for use. பாக்குச்சீவல்--பாக்குச்செதிள்--செதில், s. Areca-nut parings. பாக்குச்செருக்கல், v. noun. Being dizzy from chewing stupifying arecanuts. To pound areca-nut, betel-leaf, &c., in a mortar for old people. பாக்குப்பறித்தல், v. noun. Snatching betel-nut from the friends of the bridegroom, by a rival lover, at the bride's house; deemed an insult similar to taking away the bride. பாக்குப்பிளவு, s. A slice or arecanut. பாக்குப்புரையேற, inf. To cough from obstructions in the throat, in chewing the areca-nut. பாக்குப்பை--பாக்குவெற்றிலைப்பை, s. A betel-pouch. பாக்குப்போட, inf. To take betel, as தாம்பூலம்போட. பாக்குவெட்டி, appel. n. A kind of scissors for cutting areca-nuts in slices. பாக்குவெற்றிலை, s. Areca-nut, and betel. See பாக்குப்பை. பாக்குவெற்றிலைக்கூட்டு, s. See கூட்டு. பாக்குவைக்க, inf. [also தாம்பூலம் வைக்க.] To invite persons to a wedding by sending them a present of areca-nuts and betel. 12)

See தாழை. (சது.) 14. A kind of net, ஓர்விதவலை. 15. (Tel.) Purity. களிமடிமானிகாமிகள்வன். The drunkard, the lazy, the haughty, the lustful, the thief. (நன்.) மடியிற்கனமிருந்தால்வழியிலேபயம். If there be a heavy girdle [from money], there will be fear in the way. கரைமடி, s. A shore-net. தட்டுமடி, s. A deep sea-net. மடிகசக்க--மடிபிசைய, inf. To rub the udder of a cow to fit it for milking. மடிகழுவ, inf. To mollify and wash the udder of a cow after calving. மடிகோல, inf. To make a large lap or fold for the reception of any thing to be given, showing greediness. மடிசுரக்க, inf. To form, as milk in the udder. மடிச்சீலை--மடிப்பை, s. A purse kept in the girdle. மடிபிடி, v. noun. Fisticuffs, scuffle, seizure of one by the waist-cloth. 2. Difficulties and quarrels between persons, சண்டை. மடிபிடிக்க, inf. To seize one by the waist-cloth. 2. To dispute, recriminate. மடிபிடிவழக்கு, s. Mutual complaint, application of two parties at once for redress, &c. மடிப்பிச்சை, s. Alms received in the cloth. 2. Begging very humbly. தெய்வமே இந்தப்பிள்ளையை மடிப்பிச்சையாய்த்தர வேணும். O God! please to give the child [to us] as alms. மடிப்பெட்டி, s. [prov.] A betel-pouch carried in the waist-fold. மடிமாங்காய்போடுதல், v. noun. Charging one falsely, பொய்யாய்க்குற்றஞ்சாற்றல். 2. [prov.] Giving bribes, பரிதானங்கொடுத்தல். மடியிறக்குதல்--மடிவிடுதல், v. noun. Distending of the udder, before calving. மடியிலேகடட, inf. To fasten up in the waist-cloth. 2. To pocket by little and little, dishonestly. மடியிலேபிள்ளையைவைக்க, inf. To take a child in arms. மடியிற்பணம், s. [also மடிப்பணம்.] Money in pocket. மடியேற்குதல்--மடியேந்துதல், v. noun.
