Transposing the lines of a verse without destroying the sense, அடிமாற்றுகை. 2. A verse so formed, ஓர்பா, as, அங்கண்மதியமரவின்வாய்ப்பட்டென்ப, பூசல்வாயாப்புலம்புமனைகலங்கி. அடிமறிமண்டிலவாசிரியப்பா, s. One of the four kinds of ஆசிரியம், the lines of which are interchangeable at pleasure, the meaning remaining the same, ஓர்வகையாசிரியப்பா. அடிமறிமாற்றுப்பொருள்கோள், s. Construction in which the lines of a stanza are interchangeable, the harmony and meaning remaining the same, or the harmony only slightly affected. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which each line begins with the same letter, ஓர் வகை மோனைத்தொடை. அடியடியாக, adv. [prov.] In succession, as the descent of title, &c., தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக. அடியந்தாதி, s. A repetition in verse. See அந்தாதி. அடியளபெடை, s. Prolonging the sounds of long vowels at the beginning of every line, தொடைவிகற்பத்தொன்று. அடியறுக்கி, s. A flat piece of wood by which the potter marks his work and cuts it from the wheel below, மட்கலமறுக்குங்கருவி. அடியனாதி, s. Time immemorial, antiquity, தொன்றுதொட்டுள்ளகாலம். அடியார், s. [sing. அடியான்--அடி யாள்.] Slaves, servants as applied to devotees in reference to their deity, and used by persons of themselves in addressing superiors, to show respect, obedience or submission, தொண்டர். அடியிட, inf. To set on foot, commence an undertaking, a law suit, &c., தொடங்க. 2. To make a beginning in braiding--as the bottom of a basket, the first end of a mat, &c., பாய்முதலியவை முடைதற்கு அடியிட. அடியுரம், s. [prov.] Ancestral property, original stock. 2. eḷ (p. 75) s. [vul. எள்ளு.] One of the nine kinds of grain, sesamum, from the seeds of which an oil is extracted, used for food, bathing, &c., திலம். Sesamum orientale. See தானியம் and எண்ணெய்.-Note. The ள் of this word becomes ட் and ண் by permutation. எள்ளத்தனையைமலையத்தனையாக்க. To make a mountain of a sesamum seed, to exaggerate. எள்ளளவு--எள்ளுப்போலே. As much as a sesamum seed, a very little. எள்ளளவுநம்பிக்கையுமில்லை. Utterly unworthy of confidence. 2. Destitute of belief, confidence, &c. எள்ளுக்குளெண்ணெய்போலெங்குநிறைந்தகடவுள். God who pervades the universe, as oil the sesamum seed. எட்கடை--எட்கிடை--எட்பிரமா ணம். As much as a sesamum seed, எள்ள ளவு. 2. A standard of measure in regard to space, ஓரளவு--eight எள் make a நெல் or grain or rice; eight grains of rice one அங்குலம், an inch, &c. எட்பாகு, s. A kind of porridge made of sesamum seed, எள்ளுப்பாகு. எண்ணெய், s. [impr. எண்ணை.] Rape-seed oil. 2. (fig.) A common name for oils of all kinds. எண்ணெயூற்ற, inf. To express oil, எண்ணெய்வடிக்க. எண்ணெயெரிக்க, inf. To prepare medicinal oils by burning, in which the drugs are rolled up in a bit of cloth which is dipped in oil and set on fire; the oil which drops from it is used as a medicine, தைலமெரிக்க. எண்ணெய்க்கறுப்பு, s. The color of rape-seed oil, or dark brown. எண்ணெய்க்கறுப்பி, s. A female whose skin resembles rape-seed oil, not so much in regard to its color as its soft and beautiful appearance. எண்ணெய்க்காப்பு, s. Oil for bathing an idol, எண்ணெயபிஷேகம். எண்ணெய்க்காரன், s. An oilmonger, எண்ணெய்விற்போன். எண்ணெய்ச்சாணை, s. A hone prepared for use by oiling. எண்ணெய்ச்சாயம், s. Oil paint, எண்ணெயாற்செய்யப்பட்டசாயம். 2. Dyeing a cloth red after soaking it in margosa oil, எண்ணெயிற்றோய்த்தேற்றப்பட்டசாயம். எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு, s. Indigestion produced by eating oily food, எண்ணெய் வயிற்றிற்றங்குகை. 2. A clotted state of the hair from the oil not being well washed out, எண்ணெய்மயிரில்விடாமை. 3. A bad smell--as of oil, எண்ணெய்நாற்றம். எண்ணெய்ச்சீலை, s. Cloth dipped in oil to be applied to wounds, எண் ணெய்த்துணி. 2. A piece of cloth put round the waist before bathing, எண் ணெய்க்கோவணம். எண்ணெய்தேய்க்க, inf. To rub oil. எண்ணெய்தொட்டுப்பொட்டுவைக் க. inf. To dip the finger in oil before bathing dropping seven drops on the floor for the சிரஞ்சிவியர், who are supposed in consequence to grant long life. எண்ணெய்பிறக்க, inf. To form as oil by boiling. எண்ணெய்பூச, inf. To oil, anoint, besmear with oil. எண்ணெய்பொருத்த, inf. To put medical oil on the head or other parts of the body, and to rub it in, மருந்தெண் ணெய்பூச. எண்ணெய்ப்பற்று, s. Adherence of oil or unctuous matter to the bowels, hair, clothes, &c., oil, greasy substance in food--as in fish or on the dress from cooking, எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. எண்ணெய்வழுக்கு, v. noun. Being greasy--as oil, &c., எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. 2. Shining, sleek, glossy, bright, எண்ணெய் மினுக்கு. எண்ணெய்வாணிகன், s. An oilmonger, எண்ணெய்விற்போன். ஆமணக்கெண்ணெய், s. Castor oil. தலைக்கெண்ணெய், s. Oil for the head. விளக்கெண்ணெய், s. Lamp oil. புன்கெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from புன்கம் seeds. சூட்டெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from the residuum of the margosa berry. மருத்தெண்ணெய், s. Medical oil. குருந்தெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from குருந்தம் seeds. இலுப்பெண்ணெய், s. The இலுப் பை oil. வேப்பெண்ணெய், s. Margosa oil. தேங்காயெண்ணெய், s. Cocoanut oil. வடியெண்ணெய், s. Clarified medical oil. கொதியெண்ணெய், s. A species of boiled oil, used for medicinal purposes. புளியெண்ணெய், s. A medical oil. புன்னையெண்ணெய், s. The oil extracted from புன்னை seeds. நல்லெண்ணெய், s. Sesamum oil used for the hair and the skin, &c. மரவெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from wood. தெளிவெண்ணெய், s. Clear margosa oil poured off from the sediment. ஊற்றெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted by pressing or pounding the seeds. மீனெண்ணெய், s. Fish oil. எள்ளுண்டை--எள்ளுருண்டை, s. A pastry made into balls, said to be a very strengthening food, ஓர்சிற்றுண்டி. எள்ளுந்தண்ணீருமிறைக்க, inf. To pour water to the manes of deceased persons on sesamum seeds and sacrificial grass held in the hand. எள்ளோரை, s. Sesamum and rice boiled and mixed with ghee--one of the சித்திரான்னம். காட்டெள்ளு, s. A kind of sesamum found in uncultivated places. காரெள்ளு, s. The common எள். 2. A distinct species of எள். பேரெள்ளு, s. A large kind of sesamum. கடலெள்ளு, s. A species of sesamum. வெள்ளெள்ளு, s. A species of sesamum bearing white seed. சிற்றெள்ளு, s. Lees of oils when made on the fire, எண்ணெய்க்கடுகு. கடுகுபோகிறவிடம்பார்க்கிறானேயல்லாமற்பூசணிக் காய்போகிறவிடம்பார்க்கிறதில்லை. He looks carefully after a mustard seed, but is careless in regard to a pumpkin. கடுகளவு. As much as the mustard seed. கடுகளவுதாரும். Give me if only a little. கடுகாலாத்தி, s. [prov.] Mustard seed waved before a new married pair or others, and then cast into the fire to dispel the fascination of the eyes which may have fallen on them. 2. The ceremony of waving, &c., கடுகினாற் சுற்றுமாலாத்தி. கடுகுக்கொல்லை, s. A mustard field. கடுகுதாளிக்க, inf. To season curry with mustard in a peculiar way. See தாளிக்க. கடுகுமணி, s. White mustard, வெண்கடுகு, Sinapis alba. 2. A necklace of small gold beads, சிறுமணி. கடுகெண்ணெய், s. Oil of mustard seed, used on the Malabar coast for anointing the head, கடுகுத்தைலம். கடுகோரை, [sometimes கடுகன்னம் and கடுகுசாதம்.] Mustard seed and ghee put into boiling rice as food for the temple--one of சித்திரான்னம். எண்ணெய்க்கடுகு, s. The sediment of oil. நாய்க்கடுகு, s. White mustard. மலைக்கடுகு, s. Hill mustard. வெண்கடுகு, s. The lees of medicinal oils when extracted by heat. 2. The sediment or refuse of ghee. சிறுகடுகு, s. ktkteṉl (p. 90) v. noun. Sounding as a liquid in boiling--as water flowing from a sluice, or blood issuing from a vein, &c., ஒலிக்குறிப்பு. உடம்புகதகதென்றிருக்கிறது. The body is heated. தண்ணீர்கதகதென்றிருக்கிறது. The water is bubbling through heat. 29)

kntu (p. 93) s. A joint of the body, யாக் கையின்மூட்டு. 2. The bottom of the neck, the nape, கழுத்தடி. 3. An axle-tree, பண்டி யுளிரும்பு. 4. A carriage, a vehicle, a waggon or cart, பண்டி. 5. A staff, a crutch, support, defence, பற்றுக்கோடு. 6. A post, pillar, தூண். 7. A post for tying elephants, யானையணைதறி. 8. [prov.] A rope for tying oxen together by the neck, மாடுபிணைக்குந் தும்பு. 9. [prop. கங்கு.] The heap of straw round the threshing floor, வைக்கோல்வரம்பு. 1. The heap of chaff which forms outside the threshing floor, பொலிப்புறத்தடையும் பதர். கந்துகட்ட, inf. To float or recede to the side of the vessel--as curry stuffs in boiling. 2. To arrange the heap of straw round the threshing floor. கந்துகளம், s. The bottom of the rice-heap after the better part has been taken away, also rice mixed with the chaff in the floor. கந்தடிக்க, inf. To thrash, or beat the straw after it has been trodden. கந்தடைக்க, inf. To form an enclosure with straw round the threshing floor. கந்துடைக்க, inf. [prov.] To unfasten the noose of the string tied to the ox's neck, தும்பவிழ்க்க. கந்துமாற, inf. [prov.] To change an ox of a pair tied together, ஏரில்மாறிக்கட்ட. கந்துமாறிக்கட்ட, inf. To shift, to change sides, to use chicanery, to scheme --as in paying debts by borrowing of others, &c. கந்துமுரிக்க, inf. [prov.] To turn out of the course--as oxen treading corn, breaking the bounds. It is deemed very unlucky for men or animals to pass from the enclosure of the threshing floor except at the proper entrance. கந்துமுரித்துப்போட்டுப்போகிறான். He has deserted his company. பொலிக்கந்து, s. Chaff in the threshing floor after winnowing, containing some grain. புறக்கந்து, s. The extremities of an axle-tree. 2. The chaff about a heap of winnowed corn. கருங்கந்து, s. The second range of chaff in a threshing floor next to the பொலிக்கந்து. 15)

kḷkḷeṉl (p. 99) --களகளவெனல், s. Tingle, flow with the gentle sound, chatter, &c., ஈரடுக்கொலிக்குறிப்பு. (c.) களகளவெனக்்்கொதிக்க, inf. To sound--as water in boiling. களகளவெனவிரும, inf. To sound --as phlegm in the chest. களகளவெனவொலிக்க, inf. To roar--as water, multitudes. களகளவென்றுசிரிக்க, inf. To laugh, making a noise. 11)

kāyccu (p. 104) கிறேன், காய்ச்சினேன், வேன், காய்ச்ச, v. a. [caus. of காய்.] To boil, prepare by boiling; to cook, காயச்செய்ய. 2. To heat --as iron, &c., by fire, இரும்புமுதலியனகாய்ச்ச. 3. To heat--as the sun, கனற்ற. 4. To dry, warm, &c.--as in the sun, or by putting near fire, உலர்த்த. 5. To scold, to reprove, கண்டிக்க. 6. [prov.] To dye, to tinge, as a cloth. துரை அவனை நன்றாய்க் காய்ச்சிப்போட்டார். The magistrate has sharply reprimanded him. காய்ச்சுக்கட்டி--காய்ச்சுண்டி s. The juice of young betel-nuts inspissated by boiling, and then dried, காசுக்கட்டி. (c.) (Ains. v. I, p. 65.)--Note. காய்ச்சு க்கட்டி, and காசுக்கட்டி may be from the foreign word Catechu, and not necessarily from காய்ச்சு the Tamil verb. காய் ச்சுண்டி is from the Portuguese, கச்சுண்டி. காய்ச்சுக்கல், s. A dyed or tinged stone a counterfeit gem. காய்ச்சுப்பு--காய்ச்சுலவணம், s. Salt obtained by boiling down salt water. காய்ச்சு, v. noun. Heating metal, stone &c.; boiling any liquid, இரும்புமுதலியனகா ய்ச்சுகை. இரண்டுகாய்ச்சுக் காய்ச்சிப்போட்டான். He has already heated the metal twice. இரும்புக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To heat a piece of iron. கஞ்சிகாய்ச்ச, inf. To boil or prepare rice-water. கஷாயங்காய்ச்ச, inf. To prepare a decoction. 94)

kiḷai (p. 112) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. a. To wash rice for boiling, &c., அரிசிகளைய. 2. [prov. impr. for களைய.] To change or put off soiled and especially menstruous cloths, சீலைகளைய. 3. [impr. for களைய.] To root up herbage, trees, &c. 4. [prov.] To pay out --as a thron from the flesh with a needle, &c., கிளற. 14)

kumuṟu (p. 123) கிறது, குமுறினது, ம், குமுற, v. n. To thunder, மேகமுழங்க. 2. To sound, to roar; to bellow, to resound, to rumble, to emit a roaring hollow sound, இரைய. 3. To bubble in boiling, to efferversce, கொதிக்க. 4. To sound--as the noise of a multitude, பேசலாலொலிக்க. குமுறிவிழுகிறான். He is bellowing, vociferating; is wanton and mettlesome. உலைகொதித்துக்குமுறுகிறது. The water (for rice, &c.), is boiling up with a rumbling noise, &c. முலையிற்பால்குமுறிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. The milk in hte breast, or udder, is working up to gush out, or to distend the vessels. குமுற இடிக்க, inf. To pound foreibly in a mortar, in beating out the grain, &c. குமுறக்காய, inf. To be boiling hot-as oil; to boil up; to be heated to a high degree. குமுறிப்பாய, inf. To gush or spring out--as a roaring torrent. குமுறப்பிழிய, inf. To press out hard-as juice, &c. 20)
