uṭai (p. 59) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To break a vessel, &c.; to burst, break open, break a bank, &c.; to break lumps, clods, &c.; to break a boil, a blister, the skull or any other flat, solid or massive substance; to split, fracture, தகர்க்க. 2. To break the ranks of an enemy, to defeat, discomfit, disperse, rout, put to flight, இரிக்க. 3. To ruin, impoverish one, கெடுக்க. 4. To untwist, untwine, முறுக்கவிழ்க்க. 5. v. n. To break--as a boil, கட்டியுடைக்க.-Note. உடைய and உடைக்க are not applicable to the breaking of a tree, a branch, an arm or any other long and cylindrical body that is broken off short or asunder. For this meaning see முரிக்க, ஒடிக்க, &c. தண்ணீருடைத்துப்பாய்கிறது. The water has broken (the dam) and flows out. பல்லுடைப்பேனென்றான். He said, I will break your teeth. கட்டுடைக்க, inf. To burst an embankment--as water. பெண்மையுடைக்கும்படை, s. The weapon that dissolves female continency. தலையுடைக்க, inf. To take much pains, mentally--as in abstruse calculations, intricate business. உடைப்பு, v. noun. A breaking, a breach, the bursting of a bank, உடை க்கை. 2. s. A channel out or broken through a dam in a field, disruption, உடைந்தஅறுவாய். 3. Weakness, தளர்ச்சி. தலையுடைப்பு, v. noun. A trouble, some intricate employment. 102)

teṟi (p. 257) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To break or snap off, short, முறிய. 2. To fly back, rebound, recoil, &c., உதைந்துமீள. 3. To spirt as drops or particles of water. &c., to splash up, top up, as spray, சிதற. 4. To spring or hop, as fleas, துள்ள. 5. To part, burst, asunder--as a knot, a rope, a fiddle string; to fly apart, burst in pieces, fly off or be struck off, as pieces or sparks, அற. (c.) 6. [prov.] To be broken off, as friendiship; become disunited, வேறுபட. 7. (fig.) To fail, to result unsuccessfully. தவற. முகத்திலிரத்தந்தெறிக்கப்பேசினான். He spoke in anger, the blood flying to his face. பருத்தெறிக்கிறது. The boil throbs; (lit.) jumps. நாக்குத்தெறிக்கப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks wickedly enough to make his tongue burst asunder. பிணிதெறித்துப்போயிற்று. The disease is remedied. பொறிதெறிக்கிறது. Sparks fly out. கண்தெறித்தது. The eye is suddenly blinded; (lit.) broken by lightning &c. தெறிபட்டுப்போயிற்று. It has failed, come to naught. தெறிப்பான். He will burst asunder; a curse. தெறிக்கடிக்க, inf. [prop. தெறிக்கஅடி க்க.] To scatter, disperse, as an army; to beat or hammer so as to cause bursting, or to make a part fly off, to confound, to puzzle in controversy. தெறிக்கப்பேச, inf. To speak so as to offend, to break up friendship. தெறித்தவன், appel. n. A man of cruel conduct; used in cursing. தெறித்துவிழ, s. To strike on some thing in falling. 2. To burst to pieces; spoken of one who so acts as to reader himself liable to a curse. தெறிபதம், s. Spirtling of medicinal oil when boiling. தெறி, v. noun. Spattering, splash, spirt, சிதறுகை. தெறிப்பு, v. noun. Rebound, recoil, flying back, resilence, உதைந்துமீள்கை. 2. Spirit, spatter, splash, dash, சிந்துகை. 3. Parting, bursting asunder, flying apart; snapping off, breaking, as a limb, முறிகை, 4. Shooting with the fingers, snapping. &c., சுண்டுகை. 5. Wicked conduct spoken of in cursing as exposing a person to bursting asunder. 23)

nel (p. 281) --நெல்லு, s. Unhusked rice, paddy, சாலி. 2. Rice-plant, the growing crop, &c., நெற்பயிர். 3. A measure, the length of a rice-corn, ஓரளவு. See எட்க டை.--Note. Of நெல், there are many varieties, but the more common are கார்நெல், குளநெல், சம்பாநெல், செந்நெல், மிளகிநெல், வாலா னெல், which see severally.--The final letter is changed by rule, as நெற்கதிர், நென் மணி. நெற்கொண்டுபோமளவும்நில்லாய்நெடுஞ்சுவரே. O wall! wilt thou not stand till I get my cooly; a couplet of the poet Kamban, commonly used to denote formality. நெல்லடை, s. [prov.] Tithe of rice, or portion given as tax to government. நெல்லம்புல்--நெல்வைக்கோல், s. Paddy-straw. நெல்லரி, s. Sheaf of rice-corn. நெல்லிடை, s. A weight equal to a grain of paddy. நெல்லுக்கட்டிவைக்க, inf. To store up paddy. நெல்லுக்குத்த, inf. To beat paddy in a mortar. See குத்து, v. நெல்லுச்சுமை, s. A load of paddy. நெல்லுப்பிடிக்க, inf. To lay up paddy in store. 2. To buy paddy wholesale. நெல்லுமுறி, s. Rice-crop grown ripe. முற்றினநெல். (Beschi.) நெல்லுவேவிக்க, inf. To boil rice gently for husking. நெல்லுறை, s. A receptacle for paddy, &c. See உறை. நெல்லொட்டு, s. Rice-stubble. நெல்வட்டி, s. A stipulated quantity of paddy, as interest for a sum of money borrowed. நெல்வால், s. Beard or awn of rice. நெல்விளைவு, v. noun. Rice-crop. நெற்கடை--நெற்கிடை, s. A space in writing equal to a grain of rice. நெற்கணக்கு, s. A table of dry measure for rice. நெற்கதிர், s. An ear of rice-corn. நெற்களஞ்சியம், s. A granary for ricecorn. நெற்காணி--நெற்பூமி, s. Rice-land. நெற்குழி, s. A rice-grain-pit, under ground. நெற்குறி, s. Fortune telling by Kurava women, who look at paddy in the palm of the hand. See குறி. நெற்கூடு, s. A store basket for rice, made of sticks. நெற்கூடை, s. A store basket made of olas, for rice. நெர்கூர், s. Beard of rice, sometimes used as a gum-lancet for babes. நெற்சப்பி, appel. n. [prov.] A grass, ஓர்புல். நெற்சூடு, s. A small stack of unthreshed rice. நெற்பரப்பு, s. A kind of land-measure. See பரப்பு. நெற்பழம், s. [prov.] Rice grains bursting from rankness, indicative of a good crop. நெற்பயிர், s. The young of animals living on the branches of trees, as the monkey, &c., கோட்டில்வாழ் விலங்கின்பிள்ளை. 6. The young of the swine, deer, cat, hare, &c., பன்றி, மான், பூனை, முயலி வற்றின்குட்டி. 7. The young of the அன்றில் bird. 8. [sometimes.] The young of birds in general, பறவைக்குஞ்சுகளின்பொது. 9. The young of a cocoa-nut, தென்னம்பிள்ளை. 1. The setting, or planting, of any tree, நாற்று. 11. An affix to the names of some birds and animals, as அணிற்பிள்ளை, கீரிப்பிள்ளை, கிளிப் பிள்ளை. 12. [usage.] A small black bird, கரிக்குருவி. 13. The mainate, நாகணவாய். 14. The god Bhairava, வைரவன்; [ex பிள், bursting, as the amnios at birth or பீள்.] (சது.) பிள்ளையவர்கள்வருகிறார்கள். The master is coming--used by the Vellalas. பிள்ளைக்கு விளையாட்டு சுண்டெலிக்குச்சீவன்போ கிறது. It is play to the child, but death to the mouse. பிள்ளாயெனல், v. noun. Speaking kindly to a junior. ஏன்பிள்ளாய். Well, child! ஆண்பிள்ளை, s. A male child; a man, &c. See ஆண். பெண்பிள்ளை, s. A female child; a woman. See பெண். பிள்ளைக்கரைத்தல், v. noun. Procuring abortion. பிள்ளைகொல்லி, appel. n. Infanticide. 2. A disease fatal to infants, ஓர்நோய். 3. A kind of assaf&oe;tida, ஓர்பெருங்காயம். பிள்ளைக்கட்டி, s. The f&oe;tus in the early stages of pregnancy. பிள்ளைக்கவி, s. A species of poetic composition. See பிள்ளைத்தமிழ். பிள்ளைக்கற்றாழை, s. A common species of கற்றாழை, used medicinally, being always green. பிள்ளைக்கிணறு, s. A small well or hole sunk within a well. பிள்ளைக்கைவளை, s. Bracelets worn by children பிள்ளைக்கோட்டை. s. A small fort, forming an entrance to the larger, சிறு கோட்டை. 2. A citadel. பிள்ளைச்சோமன், s. A small சோமன் cloth for a boy or girl. பிள்ளைத்தக்காளி, s. A shrub. See தக் காளி. பிள்ளைத்தமிழ், s. A poem celebrating the different stages in the infancy and childhood of a hero, comprized in ten parts: 1. காப்பு, putting on the armrings, with magical rites; 2. செங்கீரை, first voluntary movements of the child compared to the motion of herbs by the breeze; 3. தால், lulling the child in the cradle with songs; 4. சப்பாணி, the first clapping of its hands; 5. முத்தம், kissing; 6. வாரானை, extending its hands and calling to be taken; 7. அம்புலி, showing the moon to the infant; 8. சிறுபறை, amusement of a small drum; 9. சிற்றில், making (in play) little houses, or trampling on those made by girls; 1. சிறுதேர். drawing little carriages.--Note. When a heroine is described, instead of the last three, the following are substituted, eighth கழங்கு, a kind of play with brass balls; ninth அம்மானை, a curious play with balls; tenth, ஊசல், swinging. There are two more compositions, bearing this title, one by குமரகுருபரதேசிகர், in praise of மீனாட்சி, the goddess at Madura; the other, by மார்க்கசகாயதேவர், of the childhood of Skanda. பிள்ளைத்தாய்ச்சி, s. A pregnant woman. பிள்ளைத்தேங்காய், s. The best kind of cocoa-nut, reserved for planting, நாற்றுத் தேங்காய். (Jaff.) பிள்ளைத்தேள், s. A centiped; Scolopendra, as மட்டைத்தேள். பிள்ளைப்பிறை, s. The youthful moon, இளஞ்சந்திரன். (p.) பிள்ளைப்பூச்சி, s. A kind of insect, the Gryllus, உழுவான், which going into mud is not defiled--so the spiritual man. பிள்ளைபெற, inf. To bring forth a child. பிள்ளைபெறாதமலடி, s. A barren woman, used of one who is cruel. பிள்ளைப்பெற்றவீடு, s. The house of a lying-in-woman, considered ceremoniously unclean. பிள்ளைப்பேறு, v. noun. Child-birth. பிள்ளைப்பேறறிந்தவள், s. A midwife. பிள்ளையைமஞ்சணீர்குடிக்கிறது, v. noun. Drinking turmeric water; i. e. adopting a child. பிள்ளைமாபிரபு, s. [prov.] A nobleman, an eminent person, பெருமையிற்சிறந்தோன். பிள்ளைமார், s. [pl.] Respectable men, gentlemen; men of the பிள்ளை caste. பிள்ளைமை, s. Childishness, puerility, babyhood, any thing infantile, பிள்ளைத்தன் மை. பிள்ளையாண்டான், appel. n. A young man, a youth, boy, lad, வாலிபன். பிள்ளையார், s. The god Ganesa, sometimes, Skanda and Sambanda Mûrti. பிள்ளையார்சதுர்த்தி, s. A fast on the fourth day of the new or full moon in honor of the god Ganesa. பிள்ளையார்சுழி, s. A curve to represent பிள்ளையார். See சுழி. பிள்ளையுண்டாகுதல், v. noun. Becoming pregnant. பிள்ளைவங்கு, s. [prov.] A cavity or socket to receive the mast of a dhoney, பாய்மரம்நிறுத்தும்குழி. பிள்ளைவண்டு, s. A young beetle, இள வண்டு. பிள்ளைவிழுதல், v. noun. [vul.] Miscarrying, கருவழிதல். ஊத்தாம்பிள்ளை, s.
