To put a mixture of wax, resin, vermilion, frankincense, butter, &c., in the niche around a stone idol. அஷ்டபோகம், s. The eight species of enjoyment. See போகம். அஷ்டப்பிரமாணம், s. A medicine composed of eight metals: 1. பொன், gold. 2. வெள்ளி, silver. 3. செம்பு, copper. 4. இரும்பு, iron. 5. வெண்கலம், white copper. 6. தரா, brass. 7. வங்கம், lead. 8. துத்தநாகம், zinc, with different salts and vegetable juices; the whole prepared by fire and reduced to powder to be used in various diseases. அஷ்டவசுக்கள், s. The eight வ சுக்கள், a class of தேவர் or gods. See வசுக்கள். அஷ்டவணிககுணம், s. The eight qualities of a good tradesman. See வ ணிககுணம். அஷ்டவருக்கம், s. aṇai (p. 9) s. An artificial bank, dam or ridge for retaining water in fields, வரம்பு. 2. An embankment, causeway, (as Adam's bridge, so called,) அணைக்கட்டு. 3. A bank of a tank, river, sea shore, &c., கரைப்பொது. 4. Pillow, cushion, mattress, மெத்தை. 5. (c.) A support, prop, buttress; anything to recline or lean on, முட்டு. 6. Protection, help, assistance, accessoriness to a crime, &c., உதவி. 7. Accompaniment, attendance, adjunct, துணை. 8. A yoke of oxen with a prefix of number; as, ஓரணை, one yoke of oxen, ஈரணை, two yokes of oxen, மூவணை, three yokes of oxen. வெள்ளம்வருமுன்னேயணைபோடவேண்டும், Before the flood comes and the water rise, we must cast up the dam. அணைக்கட்டு, s. An anicut. அணைசொல், s. A word spoken to assist another, a prompting, துணைச்சொல். 2. An expletive, அசைச்சொல். அணையாடை, s. A clout or strip of cloth put under an infant, ஏணைத்துகில். 2. [local.] Cloth tied over the navel of an infant, தொப்புளிறுக்குஞ்சீலை. பஞ்சணை, s. The five kinds of beds, or mattresses. தலையணை, s. A pillow. புல்லணை, A layer of grass. பூவணை, s. apiṣēkam (p. 17) --அபிடேகம், s. Sacred or royal bathing, or anointing as an inaugurating ceremony a king, a guru, &c.; the daily bathing of an idol with Ganges' water, oil, ghee, milk, திருமுழுக்கு. Wils. p. 56. AB'HISHEKA. அபிஷேகக்கூட்டு, s. Macerated spices, &c.. for anointing an idol. அபிஷேகம்பண்ண, inf. To anoint, pour water, milk, butter, honey, fruit, &c., upon an idol. கனகாபிஷேகம், s. The pouring of gold. பட்டாபிஷேகம், s. Unction, the act of initiating into office. அன்னாபிஷேகம், s. The pouring of boiled rice. 6) *

arukku (p. 25) கிறேன், அருக்கினேன், வேன், அருக்க, v. a. To diminish, குறைக்க. 2. To make scarce, reduce in quantity, சுருக்க. 3. v. n. To keep back from others use, (as keeping up grain, making it scarce and dear,) to stand out in bargaining, stickle, haggle, அருக்காணிபண்ண. 4. To grudge, spare reluctantly, give sparingly, show unwillingness to serve or benefit another, அழுக்காறடைய. (திரிகடுகம்.) நீரருக்கிமோர்பெருக்கி நெய்யுருக்கியுண்பவர்தம் பே ருரைக்கப்போமே பிணி. He who drinks his water after boiling, his curds diluted, and his butter made ghee, will find sickness flee at the sound of his name. அருக்கு, v. noun. Scarceness, அ ருமை. 2. aḷai (p. 33) s. A hole, a hollow in the ground, in a tree, &c., (as a rat's hole or snake's hole,) a hole or cavity at the side of a tank or well, the resort of alligators, வளை. 2. (p.) A cave, a cavern in a mountain or rock, மலைக்குகை. 3. The hole of an anthill, புற்று. 4. A place, இடம். 5. A form of the seventh case, ஏழனுருபு. 6. Curds, curdled milk, தயிர். 7. Whey, buttermilk, மோர். அளைமறிபாப்புப்பொருள்கோள், s. Construction in which the sense begins at the end and goes backward to the beginning--One of the eight பொருள்கோள். அளையெடுக்க--அளைவைக்க, inf. To burrow, வளைசெய்ய. 2. To grow hollow as an ulcer, புரைவைக்க. 38)

One or two அசை affixed to the penultimate foot of the second line of an ஆசிடைவெண்பா, நேரிசைவெண்பாவிற்றனிச் சொற்குமுன் கூட்டப்படுமசை. 5. A small tube through which the yarn is conducted from the spindle of a spinning wheel to a machine, நூலிழைக்குங்கருவிகளிலொன்று. 6. A small particle used in soldering metals, பற்றாசு. 7. A mark or butt, இலக்கு. (c.) 8. A kind of arsenic, ஓர்விதபாஷாணம். (p.) ஆசிட, inf. [in poetry.] To affix either one or two syllables to the third foot of the second line of an ஆசிடைவெ ண்பா. 2. To cement the particles of gold, &c. ஆசிடையிட்டெதுகை--ஆசெது கை, s. The consonance of the second and third letters in each line of a stanza, with this license, that one of the four consonants ய், ர், ல், ழ், inserted after the first letter of the first line, is omitted after the first letter of the second line, and vice versa. ஓரெதுகை--as வாய்ந்தமின்னை மடந்தையராக்கிவிண் போந்திடாமலன்றோ, &c. ஆசிடைவெண்பா, s. A வெண்பா of four lines in general, to the penultimate foot of the second line of which ஆசு is affixed, ஆசிடையிட்டவெண்பா. ஆசுமணை, s.
