Beauty, great beauty, பேரழகு. 4. Ornament, decoration, embellishment, அலங்காரம். 5. Ornamental or forcible language, நாகரீகமானபேச்சு. 6. Facetious, playful conversation; jesting, conundrums, riddles; deceitful discourse to secure an object, &c., மெய்போற்பொய்கூறல். 7. One of the four classes of poems or கவி. See மிறைக்கவி. 8. A poem in the form of intertwined snakes, &c. சித்திரக்காரன், s. A carver, painter. சித்திரகூடம், s. An ornamented or painted room, or hall with pictures, --as சித்திரசாலை.--Note. This term is applied to the temple at Chillumbram, and a mountain in Bundelcund where Rama abode in his exile. சித்திரக்குள்ளன், s. A cunning or shrewd dwarfish person. (c.) சித்திரங்கொத்த--சித்திரம்வெட்ட, inf. To carve, sculpture, grave, &c., on a plain surface. சித்திரசொரூபம், s. An image, an idol, a carved statue, a picture. சித்திரதீபம், s. A painted candle or taper. சித்திரதீபம்போலிருந்து தியானிக்கிறான். He sits meditating, motionless as a painted taper. சித்திரத்தையல், s. Fancy needle work. 2. As சித்திரப்பாவை. சித்திரத்தேர், s. An ornamented car. சித்திரந்தீர--சித்திரந்தீட்ட, inf. To carve or engrave any figures on wood or stone. சித்திரப்படம், s. A picture. 2. (p.) Variegated, painted or printed cloth, எழுத் துப்புடவை. சித்திரப்படாம், s. Veriegated, painted cloth. 2. A book of pictures, folds of paintings for amusement. (p.) சித்திரப்பதிமை--சித்திரப்பதுமை, s. A doll, statue, a puppet. சித்திரப்பா, s. As சித்திரகவி. சித்திரப்பாவை, s. A portrait or picture of a person or persons, real or imaginary, a carved figure. (நன்.) சித்திரப்பிரதிமை, s. A picture, a portrait. சித்திரப்பூம்பட்டாடை, s. Flowered silk cloth. (c.) சித்திரப்பேச்சு, s. Artful speech, cunning, jesting shrewdness. சித்திரமண்டபம்--சித்திரச்சாலை, s. A painted chamber or hall. சித்திரமெழுத, inf. To draw a picture, to paint, to sketch. (c.) சித்திரவெழுத்து, s. Elegant, nice, beautiful writing; caligraphy. 2. Variegated or fancy painting. 3. An anagram, as ஞிமிறு for மிஞிறு. சித்திரரேகை, s. Ornamental lines drawn on the body of a person. 2. One of the lines in the hand. 3. The wife of Kuvéra, குபேரன்மனைவி. சித்திரர்--சித்திரக்காரர், s. Fancy painters, portrait painters, limners, embroiderers. 2. Artizans, carvers, sculptors, engravers, சிற்பர். 3. Carpenters, தச்சர். சித்திரவதை--சித்திராக்கினை, s. Cutting and slashing in battle, prolonged butchery, cutting off member after member. 2. Ingenious and varied torture in inflicting death. (c.) சித்திரவித்தாரன், s. One artful, clever, or dexterous; one fluent in speech. (p.) சித்திரவித்தை, s. The art of fancypainting, sculpture, carving, engraving, &c. சித்திரவேலைக்காரர், s. Any fancyworkers, imitators of nature--as flower makers, artizans, sculptors, engravers. 2. Fancy-painters. (c.) சித்திரவேளாகொல்லி, s. A mode of music, a fine melody, கொல்லித்திறத்தினொ ன்று. To give health, as God in his providence by medicine, &c. சுகசரீரம், s. A healthy constitution in which the three humours are in equilibrium. சுகசரீரி--சுகசீவி, s. A healthy person. சுகசன்னி, s. A fit of apoplexy or tetanus, from unseasonable intercourse. See சன்னி. சுகசெல்வம், s. Health and prosperity, luxury. சுகசெல்வி, s. [mas. சுகசெல்வன்.] A female enjoying the pleasures and luxuries of life. சுகசெய்தி, s. Welfare, state of health, &c., as inquired after. சுகஞ்சுகம், [an auspicious phrase.] Health! health! spoken by a woman in pouring the last water to wash or bathe her child, and sometimes by adults after bathing, &c, மங்கலமொழி. சுகதுக்கம், s. Comforts and troubles, joys and sorrows, as attendant on the present life, or as awarded by the Deity for the actions of former births. சுகதுக்கஞ்சுழல்சக்கரம். Joys and sorrows are a turning wheel. சுகதுக்கி, s. One subject to joy and sorrow, a soul subject to births. (p.) சுகத்தாழ்வு, s. v. noun. Illness, want of sound health. சுகத்துக்குப்போக, inf. To remove one's self to a suitable locality, for enjoying health, to go to a sanitarium. (c.) சுகமாய்ப்போக, inf. To enter any place without molestation, obstruction, &c. 2. To be recovered from any disease. சுகபேதி--சுகவிரேசனம், s. A mild purgative, aperient, laxative, deobstruent. (c.) சுகபோகம், s. Sensual or luxurious enjoyments; sensual delight. சுகபோகி, s. A sensualist, an epicure. சுகபோசனம், s. Wholesome food. சுகப்பட, inf. To recover from disease, to be convalescent. 2. To be convenient, to suit, to be comfortable. சுகப்பேறு, s. [prov.] Safe child-birth after the full period of gestation. சுகவாசி, s. One living comfortably without toil. 2. Fixed or permanent inhabitant. சுகவாசிக்குடிகள், s. See under குடிகள். சுகவார்த்தை, s. A good account of one's health. சுகவாசித்தீர்வை, s. Tribute or tax paid to land-lords. சுகவாசிவாரம், s. The share of produce accruing to the cultivator of the soil. சுகவாழ்க்கை--சுகவாழ்வு, s. Health and prosperity. சுகவிருத்தி, s. Welfare. 2. Intelligence of one's welfare. சுகவீனம், s. Illness, ill-health. 2. Trouble. சுகாதனம்--சுகாசனம், s. An honorable, or a comfortable seat, நல்லாசனம். 2. The fixing of an idol in its place with due ceremony, விக்கிரகஸ்தாபகம். 3. The last division of the third அங்கயோகம், or posture of the silent devotee, for which there is no prescribed form, the person being left to his own choice, அங்கயோகத் தொன்று. 4. தானம்
tāṉam (p. 236) --ஸ்தானம், s. Place, location, situation, spot, station, இடம். 2. Home, abode, dwelling, residence, locality; natural situation, habitation; elements of a creature, &c., இருப்பிடம். 3. Any part or member of the body, any particular or special part, உயிர்நிலை. 4. Any of the five seats or situations of the soul in the body. (See அவத்தை.) 5. Any special place, as the residence of the king or chief, இராசஸ் தானம். 6. A sacred shrine, the interior or most sacred spot in a temple, &c., சர்ப்பக் கிரகம். 7. The world of Indra, as சுவர்க்கம். 8. Strength, power, firmness, வலி. 9. Stage of life-poetically considered, செய் யுட்பொருத்தம். 1. Any of the four seats or sources of the sounds of the letters, எழுத்துப்பிறக்குமிடம். 11. [in numeration.] Place or digit, எண்ணின்தானம். 12. [in astrol.] Any of the twelve signs consulted, for predicting one's fortune, in reference to the planets and their situation in the signs, கிரகநிலை. 13. Any of the five places in the zodiac with respect to any given planet. 14. [vul. for ஸ்நானம்.] A bath. 15. (R.) The upright posture of the images of Vishnu, in distinction from the sitting. தானம், 5. The five places are: 1. ஆட் சித்தானம், when the planet presides, (See under ஆள், v.) 2. உச்சதானம். when the sun is in Aries, the Moon in Taurus, Mars in Capricornus, Mercury in Virgo. This is a very auspicious conjunction, four times better than the first. 3. நீசத் தானம், the position of the planets in the seventh place from the auspicious, உச் சம், and thought to be very bad. 4. நட் புத்தானம், the benign position of the planets. (See under நட்பு.) 5. பசைத்தானம். the malign position, causing continual hatred. See under பகை. தானம், 12. The twelve astrological signs are: 1. சென்மஸ்தானம், the rising sign at birth, having reference to fortune generally, according to the character and influence of the planets that may be in it. 2. வாக்குஸ்தானம், திரவியஸ் தானம், குடும்பஸ்தானம், the second sign at birth as applying to the powers of speech, influence, learning, wife, &c. 3. சகோதரஸ்தானம், the third, referring to brothers and sisters whether there will be any, the good or evil they will do to the person, or he to them. 4. மாதுருஸ்தானம், மித்துருஸ்தானம், வாகனஸ்தானம், the forth, referring to the life of the mother, or friends. 5. புத்திரஸ்தானம், the fifth regards future offspring. 6. சத்துருஸ்தானம், உரோகஸ்தானம், the sixth shows whether the person will have enemies, and the evils to which he will be liable. 7. களத்திரஸ்தானம், குடும்பஸ்தானம், the seventh, referring to a wife and settlement in life. 8. மிருத்துஸ்தானம், ஆ யுஸ்தானம், the eighth, the limit of life. 9. தருமஸ்தானம், புண்ணியஸ்தானம், the ninth, referring to the extent of the person's liberality, &c. 1. கருமஸ்தானம், the tenth, conduct, character good or bad, &c. 11. இலாபஸ்தானம், பாக்கியஸ்தானம், the eleventh income, acquisition, wealth prosperity. 12. செலவுஸ்தானம், வியஸ்தா னம், the twelfth, prodigality or penuriousness, &c. தானக்கை, s. [prov.] Any vital part of the body, உயிர்நிலை. 2. Favorable situation of a place, தகுந்தஇடம். தானத்தான், s. A pujari in a Saiva temple, ஸ்தானீகன். 2. A hereditary chief, தலைமைக்காரன். தானப்புழு, s. Worms in the anus, causing irritation or itching. See திமி ரிப்பூச்சி. தானப்புழுக்கிண்ட, inf. To gnaw as worms in the anus, &c. [prov.] தானப்பொருத்தம், s. The fourth of ten items to be regarded in the choice of the first word of a poem--being the correspondence of its initial letter, with any of the five arbitrary divisions in which the initial of the name of the hero falls. The five தானம் are, 1. பாலன். 2. குமரன். 3. அரசன். 4. விருத்தன். 5. மரணம். which denote the five stages of life. The five arbitrary divisions of letters are அ, ஆ; இ, ஈ, ஐ; உ, ஊ, ஔ, எ, ஏ; ஒ; ஓ. தானவண்ணம், s. A curious kind of song, சுரவிகற்பப்பாட்டு. தானவரிசைபாட, inf. To sing with a tremendous noise. 13) *
