irṇṭu (p. 49) s. and adj. Two, இரண்டா மெண்.-- As an adjective prefix, it often becomes இரு and ஈர், double, இரட்டிப்பான-as இருநிறம், two colors, a double color; ஈர லகு, two syllables. See அலகு. இரண்டிலொன்றுசொல்லு. Say either this or that. நாடிரண்டுபட்டது. The country is divided into two factions. இரட்ட, inf. To double, repeat a motion, sound, action, &c., to reiterate. See இரட்டிக்க. இரட்டாங்காலி, s. [prov. prop. இரட்டைமரம்.] A double tree--especially of the palmyra species. இரட்டி, s. Double quantity, twice as much, இருபங்கு. அதற்கிரட்டிதருவேன். I will give double the quantity. பத்திரட்டி, s. Twice ten. இரட்டிக்க, inf. To double, repeat, reiterate, இரட்ட. 2. (c.) To return --as a disease, வியாதிமக்களிக்க. 3. To plough the second time, always crosswise, இரண்டாமுறையுழ. 4. To differ from, be discrepant, &c., வேறுபட. 5. To disagree--as different kinds of food eaten at once, to be indigested, போசனம் ஒவ்வா திருக்க. இந்தச்சாட்சியந்தச்சாட்சிக்கிரட்டிக்கிறது. This evidence differs from the other. மகரமிரட்டித்தது. The consonant ம், is doubled. நோயிரட்டிக்கின்றது. The pain is double what it was. 2. The disease has returned. இரட்டித்தசெலவு, s. Double expense. இரட்டித்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To repeat, say a thing a second time. 2. To make a discrepant statement, or a statement different from that of another. உழவிரட்டிக்க, inf. To plough the second time. இரட்டிப்பு, s. Two-fold, twice as much, a double quantity. 2. v. noun. Doubling, making two-fold. இரட்டு, s. Two-fold, இருமடங் கு. (p.) 2. (c.) Double-threaded cloth, either coarse or fine, sack-cloth, ஓர்வ கைச்சீலை. இரட்டுப்பை, s. A sack made of coarse cloth. இரட்டுறமொழிய, inf. To state a rule so that it may comprise another, the one plainly apparent, the other to be made out by study; or the use of terms of double meaning either of which serves to make good sense, though the ideas will be wholly different; or the use of terms by which one thing is employed and another implied. See உத்தி. (p.) இரட்டை, s. Two things naturally conjoined--as a double fruit, leaf, &c.; twins, two things alike, இரண்டொன் றானது. 2. (p.) Gemini in the zodiac, two females, மிதுனராசி. 3. Even, even numbers--opposed to ஒற்றை, இரட்டையெண்-as 6, 8, 24, &c. 4. A couple, tow, சேரடு. 5. A female songster, பாடுவிச்சி. ஒற்றையிரட்டைபிடித்தல். A kind of play, playing at odd and even. இரட்டைக்கிளவி, s. Double words imitating certain sounds, ஒலிக்கு றிப்பில்வருமிரட்டைமொழி--as சளசளவெனமழை த்தாரைகான்றன. (The clouds) poured a shower of rain, with a murmuring sound. (இராமா.) (p.) இரட்டைச்சுழி, s. The symbol ை of the vowel ஐ. 2. Two curls in horses, cattle, &c.--as இருசுழி. இரட்டைத்தொடை, s. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which the same word is repeated through the line, (see தொடை)--as ஒக் குமே யொக்குமே யொக்குமே யொக்கும் விளக்கினு ட்சீறெரியொக்குமே யொக்கும் குளக்கொட்டிப்பூவி னிறம், the color of the flower of the water-plant கொட்டி, resembles the delicate flame of the lamp. (p.) இரட்டைப்படவெண்ண, inf. To count even, making a series increasing by a common ratio--as 2, 4, 6, &c. இரட்டைப்பாக்கு, s. An arecanut with two eyes producing, if planted, two trees. இரட்டைப்பிள்ளை, s. Twins. 2. [prov.] A double young areca or cocoa-nut tree. இரட்டைப்புரிக்கயிறு, s. A rope or string made of two strands. இரட்டைமணிமாலை, s. A poem consisting of twenty verses of வெண்பா and கலித்துறை, or நேரிசைவெண்பா and ஆசி ரியவிருத்தம், and composed according to the rules of அந்தாதி. See பிரபந்தம். (p.) இரண்டகம், s. Treachery, perfidy, duplicity, dissimulation, double-dealing, துரோகம். (c.) இரண்டகம்நினைக்க, inf. To frame a treacherous design. இரண்டகம்பண்ண, inf. To betray, act treacherously, perfidiously. இரண்டகவாதி, s. A treacherous person, an insincere friend, துரோகி. இரண்டன்மை, s. Sameness, (lit.) being not two--as அத்துவைதம், which see. இரண்டாந்தரம், s. Secondary kind or class--as of cloth, tobacco, &c. 2. The second time. இரண்டாம்பட்சம், s. Second or secondary class, kind, &c., not the most approved. இரண்டாம்பாட்டன், s. A great grand-father, மூதாதை. இரண்டாவது, s. That which is the second. 2. adv. Secondly. இரண்டுக்குப்போக, inf. [vul.] To go to stool, (usage of children.) இரண்டுக்குற்றது, s. Critical juncture, a crisis in a disease, சாத்தியமோவசர த்தியமோவென்பது. 2. Dubiousness, possibility of two contrary impending issues, a double probability, இதுவோவதுவோவெ ன்கை. இரண்டுங்கெட்ட நேரம், s. [vul.] The dusk of the evening, used for an inauspicious or untimely season, &c. இரண்டுங்கெட்டவன், s. An indifferent man, neither good nor bad. இரண்டுசொல்ல, inf. To evade, refuse, give an indirect or evasive answer. இரண்டுசெய்ய, inf. To act perfidiously. 2. To act against one's command, to behave disobediently. இரண்டுநினைக்க, inf. To be hypocritical, to meditate treachery under a show of honesty. இரண்டுபட, inf. To vary from, differ in the issue or event, disagree, dissent, become opposed, வேறுபட. 2. To be discrepant, appear discordant, &c., ஒற்றுமையின்றாக. 3. To be doubtful, ஐயுற. இரண்டுபடுத்த, inf. To disjoin, disunite, cause to differ, sow dissension. இரண்டுபண்ண, inf. To act treacherously. இரு. Two, as இரண்டு and ஈர். இருகந்தம், s. Good and bad smell, இருமணம். (p.) இருகால், s. [vul. இருக்கால்.] Twice, இரண்டுவிசை. 2. Two feet, இருதாள். இருகாழி, [prov. இருக்காழி.] A palmyra or இருப்பை fruit with two kernels, இரண்டுகொட்டையுடையகாய்; [ex காழ், seed.] இருகுறணேரிசைவெண்பா, s. A நேரிசைவெண்பா, consisting of two குறள் வெண்பா, and a foot affixed to the second line for the sake of harmony, ஓர் வகைவெண்பா. (p.) இருக்கால், s. A certain cast of the dice in playing a game, கவற்றிற்குறித் தவோரெண். (c.) இருசமயவிளக்கம், s. A controversial treatise on the merits of Saivaism and Vishnuism, ஓர்நூல். இருசமயவிளக்கச்சூறாவளி, s. A treatise written in confutation of the above. இருசீரகம், s. The two different kinds of சீரகம்--as நற்சீரகம் and கருஞ்சீரகம், which see. இருசுடர், s. The two lights--the sun and moon, சூரியசந்திரர். (p.) இருசுடர்த்தோற்றம், s. One of the divisions of பெருங்காப்பியம், சூரியசந்திரோத யங்களின்வருணனை. (p.) இருசுழி, s. A double curl as a mark. இருசுழியிருந்துண்டாலுமுண்ணும் இரந்துண்டா லுமுண்ணும். A person of a double curl may live in luxury or be reduced to beggary. இருதலைக்கொள்ளி, s. A brand burning at both ends. ஒருதலைக்கொள்ளிநடுவிலெறும்பைப்போலானே ன். I am like an ant between two fires; i. e. I am in straits. இருதலைப்பட்சி, s. A kind of bird fabled to have two heads. இருதலைமணியன், s. A snake said to have two heads--one at each end. இருதாரைக்கத்தி, s. Two-edged sword or knife. இருதிணை, s. The two classes உயர்திணை and அஃறிணை into which Tamil nouns are divided. (See திணை.) 2. The two classes into which creatures are divided, இயங்குதிணை and இயங்கரத்திணை, which see. (p.) இருநிதிக்கிழவன், s. Kuvêra, கு பேரன். (p.) இருநினைவு, s. Double-mindedness, oscillating or wavering disposition. இருபது, s. Twenty, (lit.) twice ten, ஓரெண். இருபாவிருபது, s. A poem consisting of ten வெண்பா and ten அகவல் stanzas, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். See பிரபந்தம். (p.) இருபிறப்பு, s. [literally.] Two births, இருசனனம்--said of persons or things twice born--as 1. The moon, சந்திரன். 2. Birds and other oviparous creatures, முட்டையிற்பிறப்பன. (See அண்ட சம்.) 3. The teeth, பல். 4. Feathers, சிறகு. 5. Brahmans, பார்ப்பார். (p.) இருபிறப்பாளர், s. The twiceborn caste--Brahmans; investiture with the sacred thread being deemed a kind or regeneration, அந்தணர். இருபெயரொட்டுப்பண்புத்தொகை, s. Omission of ஆகிய or ஆய where two nouns are used in opposition, ஓர்பண்புத் தொகை--as ஆதிபகவன். God the source (of all things.) இருபொருள், s. Learning and riches. See பொருள். (p.) இருமடங்கு, s. As much again, two-fold, இரண்டுபங்கு. இருமடியாகுபெயர், s. An ஆகு பெயர் of the second degree--as கார், black when used to signify a cloud is called ஆகுபெயர்; but when used for the rainy season, it is called இருமடியாகுபெயர். (p.) இருமணம், s. The two states --the present and the future, or this life and that to come--whether as distinct from the body or as reunited with it in another birth, இம்மைமறுமை. (p.) இருவகைத்தோற்றம், s. The two classes of beings produced--சரம் and அச ரம். See தோற்றம். (p.) இருவாட்டித்தரை, s. [prov.] Land compounded of earth and clay, மணலுங் களிப்புமானநிலம். இருவாய்க்குருவி, s. A kind of bird, Hormbill, buceros, ஓர்குருவி. இருவினை, s. The two classes of moral actions--good and evil, in every one of which there is merit or demerit, leading to future births in which they are to be suffered or enjoyed, while they keep the soul from union with deity, நல்வினை தீவினை. (p.) ஈர். An adjective of இரண்டு, two --used before words beginning with vowels, &c., as இரு is used before consonants--as ஈராயிரம், two-thousand; இருபது, twenty. ஈரசைச்சீர், s. A poetic foot of two அசை, ஆசிரியச்சீர். (p.) ஈரடி, s. Two lines, இணையடி. (p.) 2. That which is bifurcate or two forked, கவர். 3. Doubtfulness, fluctuation, சந்தேகம். ஈரடிப்பயன், s. Ambiguity in conversation, equivocation, double-mindedness, உபயார்த்தம். 2. Double-dealing, acting under-handedly so as to suit both parties, கபடம். 3. Uncertainty, doubtfulness, சந்தேகம். 4. [prov.] Diverseness, disagreement--as of a report or account differently related, விகற்பம்; [ex அடி, step, course, et பயன், meaning.] ஈரடிப்பா, s. A stanza of two lines. (p.) ஈரடிமடக்கு, s. [in poetry.] Repetition of a foot or feet in two lines with different meanings, வந்தசொல்லேயிரண்டடி யினும்வரப்பாடுவது. See மடக்கு. ஈரடிவெண்பா, s. A kind of வெ ண்பா of two lines--the குறள்வெண்பா. (p.) ஈரடுக்கொலி, s. Reiterated words imitative of sound--as நெறுநெறென்றுமுறிந் தது, it broke with a reiterated crash; வண்டில்கடகடென்றோடிற்று, the carriage rolled along with a rattling noise. (p.) ஈரறம், s. The two kinds of அறம், or virtuous actions according to the shasters; viz.: இல்லறம், matrimony and its accompanying household virtues; and துறவறம், the virtues of ascetic practice. (p.) ஈரறிவுயிர், s. Beings that have the sense of feeling and tasting--as snails, shells, &c., பரிசமுஞ்சுவையுமறியும்நந்துமுதலிய செந்து. (p.) ஈராசிடைவெண்பா, s. A species of வெண்பா, with two ஆசு affixed to the end of the third foot of the second line. (p.) ஈராடி--ஈராட்டி, s. [prov.] A changeable state of the wind and weather, previous to the change of monsoon, indicative of rain. 2. A calm, a lull, the failing of the wind at this season, காற்றினமைவு. 3. Fickleness, hesitation, fluctuation of mind, நிலையின்மை. இக்காரியத்திலென்மனமீராடிப்படுகின்றது. In this affair my mind wavers. ஈராட்டி, s. [prov.] Two wives. ஈரி, s. A play of girls, two stones being taken up from the ground while a third is tossed in the air, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. (c.) ஈரிலைப்பயிர், s. A young shoot when two leaves appear. ஈரிழை, s. Double-thread used in some kinds of cloth--as in muslin. ஈரிழைச்சல்லா, s. A muslin whose warp consists of two untwisted threads. ஈரீற்றா, s. A cow that has had two calves. (p.) ஈருடல், s. [in mythology.] Beings possessing the form, in part, of two bodies--as Vishnu manifested in the form of man and lion, இருதன்மைத்தாயவுடல். (p.) ஈருயிர்க்காரி, s. The two-lived --used of a pregnant female. (c.) ஈரெச்சம், s. See எச்சம். ஈரொட்டு, s. Uncertainty, doubt, crisis, criticalness, state of suspense, conditional bargain. (c.) நோயாளியின்காரியமீரொட்டாயிருக்கின்றது. The case of the patient is doubtful. ஈரொட்டாகச்சொல்ல, inf. To speak doubtfully, uncertainly, ambiguously. ஈரொட்டாகவாங்க, inf. To take things conditionally, that is, if approved; or, as a merchant, to pay for them if sold. 6)

iḷmai (p. 56) s. Youth, tenderness, immatureness, juvenility, infancy, இளமைப்பரு வம். 2. Indiscretion, immaturity of knowledge and intellect, illusion, உன்மத்தம். The opposite to இளமை is முதுமை. இளமையிலேபுண்ணியத்தோடேபழகு. Accustom thyself to virtue from thy youth. இளமையிற்கல். Learn from thy infancy. இளங்கதிர், s. Young ears of corn, பயிரினிளங்கதிர். 2. The early rays of the sun, இளங்கிரணம். 3. The sun early in the morning, உதையாதித்தன். இளங்கலையன், s. A species of paddy that ripens early, ஓர்நெல். இளங்கன்று, s. A young calf, சிறு கன்று. 2. A sapling, மரக்கன்று. இளங்காய், s. Green, unripe fruit, fruit just formed. இளங்கார், s. A kind of paddy which is reaped in the early part of the dark season, கார்நெல். இளங்கால், s. The betel creeper recently planted, வெற்றிலையிளங்கொடி. இளங்காற்று, s. A gentle breeze. இளங்குரல், s. A low, suppressed cry--as at the commencement of a funeral wail, அமர்ந்தகுரல். 2. A shrill, fine voice, சிறுகுரல். (c.) 3. (p.) A young ear of corn, பயிரிளங்கதிர். இளங்கொடி, s. A young creeper, சிறுகொடி. 2. The secundine or afterbirth of a beast, பசுவினஞ்சுக்கொடி. 3. (fig.) [in poetry.] A female, பெண். இளங்கொற்றி, s. A cow that has recently calved, இளங்கன்றுடைப்பசு. இளசு, appel. noun. [prop. இளைசு.] That which is young, tender. இளஞ்சந்திரன்--இளம்பிறை, s. The horned moon, the crescent. இளஞ்சாயம்--இளநிறம், s. A slight tinge in dyeing, நன்றாய்ப்பற்றாதசாயம். இளஞ்சார்வு, s. [prov.] Palmyra or talipot leaves next to the tender shoot, or heart of the tree, குருத்தோலை. இளஞ்சிவப்பு, s. Light red. இளஞ்சூடு, s. Gentle heat, warmness. இளஞ்சூல், s. The water of a young cocoanut, இளந்தேங்காய்குள்நீர். 2. A tender or unripe cocoanut, இளந்தேங்காய், Cocos nucifer&ae;. 3. A faint color in a gem, மணியினிளநிறம். இளநீர்க்குழம்பு, s. A medicinal preparation for diseases of the eye, கண் மருந்திலொன்று. இளநீலம், s. Light blue, வெளிறி யநீலம். இளநீலநூல், s. Light blue thread. இளநெஞ்சன், s. A coward, dastard, a poltroon, கோழைமனதுடையோன். 2. A kind, tender-hearted man, இளகின மனதுடையவன். இளநெஞ்சு, s. Timidity, cowardice, pusillanimity, கோழைமனது. 2. A tender mind, இளகியமனது. இளந்தலை, s. Youth, juvenility, இளமைப்பருவம். 2. Being reduced in rank, lowness of circumstances, want of respectability, lightness, எளிமை. ஆளிளந்தலைகண்டுதோணிமிதக்கும். A little boy or girl, a stripling, youth, a young lady, சிறுவன் --சிறுவி. இளமண், s. A sandy soil. இளமண்டை, s. A tender skull, a thin skull, the hair of which early turns grey, the teeth of the person falling out prematurely. இளமத்தியானம், s. Towards mid-day. இளமலர், s. A bud about to burst. இளமழை, s. A light shower of rain, drizzling rain. இளமையோன், s. A youth, a young man. கட்டிளமையோன், s. A very young man--as மழவன். இளமைவழிபாடு--இளவழிபாடு, s. Fickleness, unsteadiness. 2. Elements, rudiments. இளம்பசி, s. Slight hunger--as between meals, easily relieved by light food, or fruit. இளம்பச்சை, s. Light green. இளம்பதம், s. Imperfectness, immaturity, moderateness in state or quality, இளமை. 2. A peculiar quality in medicinal oils derived from immature heat in some cases a defect, in others an excellence, இளம்பாகம். 3. A thin consistency obtained by melting, the first stage of melting, உருகுபதம். 4. The state of sweetmeats, pastries, or other kinds of food imperfectly cooked, வேகாப்பதம். 5. The state of oils or electuaries insufficiently prepared, இலேகியமுதலியவற்றின் பதக்குறைவு. 6. The quality of paddy, &c., imperfectly or moderately dried after boiling, நெல்முதலியவற்றின்காய்ச்சற்கு றைவு. 7. The state of being slightly parched, toasted, &c., வறுபடாப்பொரி. இளம்பயிர், s. Young shoots of corn, corn in a fit state to be transplanted. இளம்பருவம்--இளம்பிராயம், s. Juvenility, youth, early stage of existence. இளம்பறியல், s. That which is plucked when immature--said of cocoanuts. இளம்பாடு, s. Sufferings of nonage, இளமையிற்படும்பாடு. 2. Immaturity, unripeness, imperfection, இளம்பதம். இளம்பிடி, s. A young female elephant, சிறியபெண்யானை. 2. A woman, a lady, பெண்; [ex பிடி, a female elephant whose stately movements a lady is poetically described to resemble in her gait.] இளம்பிள்ளை, s. A young child. இளம்பிள்ளைவாதம், s. A kind of rheumatism to which young persons are subject, a kind of pleurisy. இளம்புல், s. Tender grass newly shot forth, முதிராப்புல். 2. The அறுகு grass. இளவடி, s. Imperfect distillation, இளம்பதத்தில்வடிக்கை. இளவரசு, s. The prince regent who performs the functions of government when the king becomes disabled by age or otherwise, இராசகுமாரன். 2. The heir apparent, பட்டத்துக்குரியபிள்ளை. 3. A king in his minority, குழந்தைப்பருவமுடைய வரசு. (பாரதம்.) இளவல், s. A younger brother, தம் பி. 2. A lad, a youth, இளைஞன். இளவாடை, s. Gentle north wind. இளவாளிப்பு, v. noun. [prov.] Dampness, moisture. இளவுச்சம், s. [in astrology.] The situation of a planet a little before it reaches the meridian, உச்சத்திற்கணிமையா குகை. இளவுறை, s. Incipient or immature curds. இளவெந்நீர், s. Lukewarm water. இளவெயில், s. The early sunshine of the morning; also applied sometimes to the moderated rays of the evening, காலைவெயில். இளவெலும்பு, s. A tender, unhardened bone--as in children, முதிராவெலு ம்பு. இளவெழுத்து, s. An unformed hand-writing, the first writing of a child, படியாவெழுத்து. இளவேனில், s. ukam (p. 58) s. Any one of the four Yugas, an age of the world. (See யுகம்.) 2. (p.) End, முடிவு. 3. A pair, a couple, இரண்டு. உகமுடிந்தாற்போலேபேசுகிறாய். Thou speakest as if the world were at an end. உகசந்தி, s. The meeting of two Yugas--the end of the preceding and beginning of the following. ஈன்றவணிமை, s. The time immediately after calving--spoken of a cow. 2. The tenderness, delicacy, &c. of a new-born animal, கன்றினிளமை. 3. The tenderness, weakness, &c. of an animal that has recently brought forth young, இளங்கொற்றியின்பச்சுடம்பு. ஈன்றவள்--ஈன்றாள், s. A mother, தாய். 2. Parvati--as the genetrix of the worlds, பார்வதி. (p.) ஈன்றவன்--ஈன்றான், s. A father, genetor, generator, பிதா. 2. The god Brahma--as creator, பிர்மன். (p.) ஈனல், s. An ear of corn, கதிர். (p.) 2. v. noun. Yeaning, bringing forth, ஈனுகை. ஈன்றல். A verbal in the past form of ஈனுதல. (p.) இன்சொல்லினிதீன்றல். Courteous speech yields pleasure. (குறள்.) ஈற்று, v. noun. Bringing forth, ஈனுகை. 2. s. That which is brought forth, whether animal or vegetable, ஈனப் பட்டது. தலையீற்று--முதலீற்று, s. The first calving; also the first calf, the firstling. ஓரீற்றா, s. A cow that has calved but once. 46)

[in astrology.] The four months in which the sun is in the உபயவிராசி, equivocal or intermediate signs, viz.: march, June, September, and December, being of medial influence, உபயவிராசிமாதங்கள். உபயராசி, s. Every third sign of the zodiac considered in astrology as auspicious for building, &c. See இராசி. உபயவாதிகள், s. The plaintiff and defendant in a lawsuit, வாதிபிரதிவாதி கள். 2. The originator and defender of a controversy, தருக்கவாதியும்பிரதிவாதியும். 3. Persons secretly leaning to both parties or sides, இருதிறத்தாரையுஞ்சார்ந்துநிற்போர். உபயவோசை, s. An imitative, reiterated sound--as மடமடெனக்குடிக்கி றான், he drinks with a gurgling sound. 20) *

kṭmpu (p. 87) s. A flower-tree including two kinds, viz.: செங்கடம்பு, the red species, and வெண்கடம்பு, the white species, both sacred to the god Skanda, நீபமரம், Eugenia racemosa. 2. The first milk of cattle, &c., after calving, biestings, கடம்புப் பால். கடம்பவனம்--கடம்பாடவி, s. Madura, மதுரை. கடம்பன், s. Skanda, கந்தன். (p.) கடம்புப்பால், s. The first milk of women after child birth; also that of the inferior animals after giving birth. நீர்க்கடம்பு, s. The water கடம்பு, Nanclea parniflora. நிலக்கடம்பு, s. kttu (p. 92) கிறேன், கத்தினேன், வேன், கத்த, v. n. To cry with a harsh continued noise, to scream, squall--as an infant, கூவ. 2. To croak--as a frog; to caw--as a crow; to chuck--as a partridge; to scream, screach or make a harsh sound--as some birds, &c.; to chatter--as monkeys in fear, to yelp--as young dogs; to growl--as a bear; to bray--as an ass; to chuck--as young birds; to bleat--as calves; to make a reiterative sound--as some snakes, விலங் குபறவைமுதலியகத்த. 3. To chatter, to babble, to jabber, to talk in vain, பிதற்ற. 4. To roar, முழங்க. கத்திக்கத்தித்தொண்டையடைத்துப்போயிற்று. I am grown hoarse by talking so much. நாய்க்குப்பயந்துகுரங்குகத்துகிறது. The monkey chatters for fear of the dog. காக்கைகத்துகின்றது. The crow caws. அவன்கழுதைபோலேகத்துகிறான். He brays like an ass. அணில்கத்துகிறபடியால்சமீபத்திலேபாம்பிருக்கவே ண்டும். The screaching of the squirrels indicates the proximity of a snake. மாரித்தவளைபோலேயேன்கத்துகிறாய். Why do you croak like a frog in the rainy season? --said of one who talks too much, or importunes unceasingly. கத்து, v. noun. Crying, bawling, கூப்பிடுகை. 2. Chattering, unmeaning or idle talk, vain babbling, nonsense, mere declamation, பிதற்றுகை.--Note. Exalted devotees use this term concerning the opinions, &c., of other sects or of those of the same sects, but inferior to themselves. சமயக்கத்து, s. The arguments or wrangling of religious disputants. 2. Religious tenets exclusive of the sublimer or experimental parts. In both meanings the usage is sarcastic, spoken by opponents or by those who have arrived at an exalted degree. பொய்ந்நூலாம்அச்சமயக்கத்தினாராதரிக்கத்தெய்வ ங்கள்வைச்சமயக்கத்தினார்வாழ்வு. (Tiruvancadum) is the residence of Vishnu who appointed various gods to please wrangling fanatics. (திருவேங்.) வீண்கத்து, s. Vain, insignificant words, prating. 22) *

kṉṟu (p. 102) s. A calf, colt, &c., the young of the buffalo, cow, mare, camel, bos graven, bos grunniens, elk, deer, and elephant, எருமை, ஒட்டை, கடமை, கவரி, காட்டா, குதிரை, பசு, மறை, மான்,யானையிவற்றின்குட்டி. 2. Sapling, a young tree in general, இலமரம். (c.) 3. (p.) A small thing, a trifle, a particle, அற்பம். 4. A bracelet, கைவளை. கன்றுந்தாயும், s. A cow and calf. இளமையிற்பயிராக்கப்படும்விருக்ஷத்தின்கன்றுகள். Plants grown up in their youth. கன்றுகாலி, s. Cattle, old and young, of the bovine species. கன்றுகொல்லி, s. A disease in cows causing the death of their calves, மாடுகளுக்குவரும்ஓர்நோய். கன்றுக்குட்டி, s. [vul.] A calf. கன்றுதாய்ச்சி, s. A cow great with young, குற்பசு. கன்றுபட, inf. To be in calf. கன்றுபோட--கன்றீன, inf. To calve. கன்றூட்ட, inf. [prov. கன்றுக்கூட் ட.] To suck, as calves. கன்றூட்டவிட, inf. To let the calf suck after milking, in order to get an increased supply, which otherwise is retained. 2. To allow the calf to suck --the act of the cow. காடரிக்கன்று, s. A cow-calf. வாழைக்கன்று, s. Plantains, the sucker or shoot, Musa paradisiaca. சேங்கன்று, s. A bull-calf. மாங்கன்று, s. A shoot of the mango tree. இளங்கன்று, s. A young calf. ஊட்டுகன்று, s. A sucking calf. ஊட்டுமறந்தகன்று, s. A weaned calf. முதுகன்று, s. A grown calf. மான்கன்று, s. A fawn. 69)

kā (p. 102) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To keep, preserve, take care of,பாது காக்க. 2. To defend, guard, protect, shelter, save, காப்பாற்ற. 3. To watch, to be vigilant, careful, cautious, விழிப்பாயிருக்க. 4. To keep off, ward off, guard against, காவல்செ ய்ய. 5. To cherish, வளர்க்க. 6. To expect, wait for, wait in attendance, எதிர்பார்க்க. 7. To keep, observe a fast, a vow, &c., விரதங் காக்க. வெகுநாளிங்கேகாத்திருக்கிறேன். I have been waiting here many days. யாகாவாராயினுநாகாக்ககாவாக்காற்சோகாப்பர்சொல் லிழுக்குப்பட்டு. Whatever besides you leave unguarded, guard your tongue; otherwise errors of speech and consequent miscry will ensue. (திருவள்.) பொன்காத்தபூதம்போலே. As a demon watching gold; i. e. an act of no value to any one. காத்திருக்க, inf. To wait, wait for, expect, watch for, look for. கன்னியாகுமரி, s. The கன்னி river. 2. The young of elephants, horses, asses, goats, sheep, dogs, jackals, cats, swine, tigers, lions, bears, deers, elks, hares, monkeys, snakes, alligators, ichneumons, sloths, armadillos, sharks, &c.; also, the young of plantain-trees, and jack-trees, ஆடுமுதலியவற்றின்குட்டி. 2. A little girl, சிறுபெண்பிள்்ளை. 3. A child, in fondness, especially the youngest, குழந்தை. 4. [in gambling.] An additional coin or seed set down as a stake by a person who hits a wrong seed, coin, &c., ஓர்விளையாட் டில் அதிகமாகக்கூட்டுங்காய். 5. [prov.] An additional sum claimed or allowed on a debt--as a share of the net profit, &c., ஆதா யம்; [ex குட்டம், little.] குட்டிக்கழுதை, s. A young ass. குட்டிக்கரடி, s. The whelp of a bear. குட்டியாடு, s. A kid, a lamb. குட்டியாடுகொழுத்தாலும்வழுவழுப்புத்தீராது.... Though a kid fattens, its lubricious quality does not cease; though a youth perform notable actions, they are commonly imperfect. குட்டிபோட, inf. to bring forth--as brutes; to calve, to cub, to whelp, to foal, to kitten, to lamb, to litter, குட்டியீன. 2. [prov.] To put down a forfeited seed or coin in gambling at stakes to be played for, விளையாட்டிலதிகபந்தயமிறுக்க. குட்டியிட, inf. To bring forth--as cats, dogs and bears. குட்டியுண்டாயிருக்க, inf. To be big with young--as brutes. குட்டிக்கானாங்கெளிறு, s. A young கானாங்கெளிறு fish. குட்டிக்கிழங்கு, s. Small esculant roots growing about a large one, சிறியகிழங்கு. குட்டித்தக்காளி, s. A kind of Physalis angulata, சிறுதக்காளி. குட்டிப்பலா, s. A small jack-tree. 2. A species of jack-tree. குட்டிவிளா, s. A kind of tree, ஓர்விளா மரம். 2. A shrub. குட்டித்தாய்ச்சி, s. [vul.] A pregnant animal. குட்டியப்பன், s. The father's younger brother, சிறியதகப்பன். குட்டிச்சாத்தான், s. (fem. குட்டிச்சாத்தி.) An elf, imp, a little goblin, invoked in performing juggling tricks, குறளி. குட்டிச்சாத்திக்காரன், s. An enchanter, sorcerer, one who is supposed to have power over a familiar spirit. குட்டிப்பல், s. An extra of dwarf tooth. குட்டிவிரல், s. A sixth or extra finger or toe, smaller than the proper size, ஐந்திற்கதிகமானவிரல். குட்டிச்சுவர், s. A short piece of wall adjoining a large building, சிறுசுவர். 2. (fig.) A worthless fellow, மடையன். காரியங்குட்டிச்சுவராய்ப்போயிற்று. The thing has dwindled away, is come to nought. குட்டிக்கம்பு, s. A small stick which children use in play. குட்டிக்கொக்கான், s. [prov.] A kind of play with pebbles, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. குட்டிபடல், v. noun. [prov.] Striking a wrong coin or seed in games. 2. Becoming pregnant--as a sheep, goat, or dog, சினைப்படல். குட்டியடிக்க, s. [prov.] To strike another coin, or seed than the one indicated. குட்டிவைக்க, inf. [prov.] To hit the wrong coin, &c.,--as குட்டியடிக்க. 2. To forfeit a coin, seed, &c., in gambling. 24) *

kutṭṭu (p. 119) கிறேன், குதட்டினேன், வேன், குதட்ட, v. a. To chew, மெல்ல. 2. To turn food about in the mouth--as calves or old persons; to munch, குதப்ப. குதட்டுகை, v. noun. Munching, chewing-as a beast. 12)

kummāḷam (p. 123) s. Jumping, romping, moving about--as children, calves. &c.; often, a kind of rustic dance, குதித்துவிளை யாடுகை. Wils. p. 23. KUMALA. கள்ளுவயிற்றிலேகும்மாளங்கொட்டுகிறது. The toddy in his stomach is fermenting (causing him to jump and romp about). வயிறுகும்மாளங்கொட்டுகிறது. The bowels are rumbling (indicating indigestion or a disordered state of the stomach). 47)

kuḷmpu (p. 130) s. [probably a change of குரம்.] A beast's hoof, விலங்கின்காற்குளம்பு. குளம்புகிள்ள--குளம்புவெட்ட, inf. To nip off the edge of a calfs hoof as soon as calved. ஒற்றைக்குளம்பு, s. An undivided hoof--as of a horse. 8)
