To defend the body by wearing armor, &c., or the head by oils, &c., against disease, which either has attacked the lower extremities, or indicates coma, &c. காவல்செய்ய, inf. To protect, to defend. 2. To place an image of Ganesa (being a handful of moist cow-dung) on the top of a heap of corn before winnowing, as a security from demons.--Note. Vishnu, as the preserver of the world, விஷ்ணு. காவற்கட்டு, s. [prov.] A bundle of paddy sheaves for the watchman. காவற்கட்டை, s. [prov.] A fire-brand kept burning to ward off the female demon கொற்றி from a woman in child-birth, when exposure is greater than at other times. 2. A clump of wood kept burning through the night near a patrol-hut. காவற்கப்பல், s. A reconnoitring vessel, a guard-ship. காவற்காடு, s. A jungle or forest defence, காட்டாண். 2. The effects of a curse. சாபநிவாரணம்--சாபநிவர்த்தி--சாபவி மோசனம், v. noun. The removal of a curse, usually by its author in consequence of some atonement, or intercession. சாபநீங்குதல்--சாபந்தொலைதல், v. noun. The expiring or removal of a curse. சாபம்நீக்க, inf. To remove the curse formerly pronounced upon certain medicinal plants by different Rishis; or by Sita wife of Rama, when in captivity in Lanka, to prevent their being employed as a philter to allure her affections. There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *
