A medicine composed of eight metals: 1. பொன், gold. 2. வெள்ளி, silver. 3. செம்பு, copper. 4. இரும்பு, iron. 5. வெண்கலம், white copper. 6. தரா, brass. 7. வங்கம், lead. 8. துத்தநாகம், zinc, with different salts and vegetable juices; the whole prepared by fire and reduced to powder to be used in various diseases. அஷ்டவசுக்கள், s. A flying insect which, on contact, emits moisture that causes a burning smart and a discoloring of the skin, ஓர்பூச்சி. எரிமணி, s. Sparkling jewels, bright gems, பிரகாசமுள்ளமணி. எரிமுகி, s. An artificial bank of a paddy field, a dam, a causeway, செய் கரை. 5. The viscera--as the liver, &c., ஈரற்குலைமுதலியன. என்குலைபதைக்கின்றது. My heart goes pita-part; my heart palpitates. ஒருகுலைக்காய், s. A person of the same consanguinity; lit. a fruit of the same cluster. குலைகுலையாய், adv. In bunches. முந்திரிகைப்பழங் குலைகுலையாய்த் தூங்குகின்றது. The grapes hang in thick clusters. குலையோடே, adv. All at once, the whole without exception. குலைதள்ள--குலைபோட, inf. To form --as clusters, bunches, &c., of fruits or flowers. குலைதறி, v. noun. Cutting off a bunch of fruit at once. குலைநெறியற்றேங்காய், s. [prov.] Cocoanuts, pressed and deformed in the bunch. குலைநெருக்கம், v. noun. Being crowded --as a bunch or bunches of fruits, &c. குலைவிலை, s. [prov.] The sale of palmyra fruits while on the tree. திராட்சக்குலை, s. A bunch of grapes. குலைமுட்டி--குலையெரிவு, s. Heartburning. குலையாத்திரம், s. An unsatiable appetite; a carving for food. குலைநோய்--குலைவலி, s. Heart-burn, cardialgia. குலைபடுவன், s. [prov.] Tumors, ulcers, &c., in the liver, lungs, &c. நெஞ்சாங்குலை, s. Rolls of cotton or flax prepared for spinning, பஞ்சுக்கொட்டை. 5. A plug or tent of cloth to widen the hole in the ear for jewels, திரி. 6. A kind of female ear ornament, ஓர்காதணி. 7. The knob of a wooden sandal, பாதகுறட்டின்குமிழ். 8. A pad for the head in carrying a load, சும்மாடு. 9. A bolster, a pillow; a cushion, தலையணை. 1. The pericarp of the lotus flower, with which the female body is compared for softness, தாமரைக்கொட்டை. 11. [prov.] The fruit buds of the jack tree, பலாப்பிஞ்சு. கொட்டைகட்ட, inf. To gamble with இருப்பை seeds, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. கொட்டைக்காய், s. A seedy or stony fruit; any fruit the stones or seeds of which are large, or numerous, in proportion to the pulp. கொட்டைக்கச்சி--கொட்டைக்கையில், s. [prov. vul.] The half of a cocoanut shell. See கொட்டங்கைச்சி. கொட்டைக்குவிட, inf. To let a plant go to seed. கொட்டைச்செத்தல்--கொட்டைத்தேங் காய், s. [prov.] A dry cocoanut in which the kernel rattles, கொப்பரைத்தேங்காய். கொட்டைநூற்க, inf. To spin cotton, flax, &c. கப்பலோடிப்பட்டகடன் கொட்டைநூற்றுத்தீரு மோ. Will the debt contracted by a ship merchant be paid by spinning cotton? கொட்டைபுதைக்க--கொட்டைதாழ்க்க, inf. To plant fruit stones. கொட்டைப்பாக்கு, s. An entire arekanut dried without boiling. கொட்டைப்புளி, s. Pulp of tamarind fruit with the stones. கொட்டைப்போட, inf. To place seeds in garden beds, or to bury palmyra stones in the ground to grow. 2. To form the fruit buds--as the jack tree. 3. [vul. local.] To die, சாக. கொட்டைப்பெட்டி, s. Dancing attendance on a court, &c. சுற்றுக்காலிட்டுக்கொண்டுதிரிய, inf. (fig.) To importune, கெஞ்சித்திரிய. சுற்றுக்கோட்டை, s. A circular fortification. சுற்றுத்தேவதை, s. [prov.] Offerings placed on the ground round a temple in the direction of the eight cardinal paints, for the guardian regents. 2. (fig.) Bribing all persons in authority, இலஞ்சங்கொடுக்கை. சுற்றுப்பட்டு--சுற்றுப்புறம், s. Place or region round about. See பட்டு. சுற்றுப்பட்டுக்கிராமம், s. To apply the juice of the kernel as a caustic to the parts of the body where there is rheumatic pain; or for children to the lower part of the belly. 3)

tikku (p. 237) s. (Sa. Dik.) Region, quarter, point of the compass, direction, திசை. 2. Protection, shelter, aid, ஆதரவு. (c.) எனக்குத்திக்குமில்லைத்திசையுமில்லை. I have no support whatever. திக்குத்திசைதெரியாதஇருட்டு. Darkness so great that one knows not the points of compass or which way to go. திக்குநோக்கித்தெண்டனிடல். Making obeisance toward the place where a person is-a term of respect or reverence used in epistolary writings. திக்கெல்லாம்வெடிபடப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks loud enough to disturb all the points of compass. அஷ்டதிக்கு, s. The eight points of the compass are: 1. கிழக்கு, East. 2. தென் கிழக்கு, South-east. 3. தெற்கு, South. 4. தென்மேற்கு. South-west. 5. மேற்கு, West 6. வடமேற்கு, North-west. 7. வடக்கு, North. 8. வடகிழக்கு, North-east. Some add two others விசும்பு, the heavens or etherial regions, and பாதாளம், the abyss. தசதிக்கு--தசதிசை, s. The ten points for astrological purposes especially in choosing spots for building houses, &c., are named after certain animals. 1. கிழக்கு. கருடதிசை. 2. தென்கிழக்கு. பூனை த்திசை. 3. தெற்கு. சிங்கத்திசை. 4. தென்மேற்கு. கனகதிசை. 5. மேற்கு. நாகதிசை. 6. வடமே ற்கு, எலித்திசை. 7. வடக்கு. யானைத்திசை. 8. வடகிழக்கு. முயற்றிசை. 9. விசும்புத்திசை. 1. பாதாளத்திசை, which see.--Note The animals of the opposite points are natural foes to each other, the one being pursuer, and the other, the pursued. திக்கடைப்பு--திக்கெல்லை, s. [prov.] Boundaries of land, as mentioned in title deeds. திக்கற்றவன், appel. n. A forlorn, destitute, forsaken person. திக்காக, inf. [adverbiality.] In the direction of, toward. கிழக்குத்திக்காகப்போ. Go directly east. திக்காதிக்கு--திக்காலுக்கு, [prov.] In various directions, here and there, பலதிசையிலும். திக்காலுக்கொருத்தராய்ப்போய்விட்டார்கள். They are gone, are scattered in various directions. திக்கியானை, s. The elephants of the eight cardinal points, male and female supporters of the earth are:-1. East Male ஐராவதம். Female அப்பிரமை. 2. North. ,, சாருவபூமம். ,, அஞ்சனை. 8. N. E. ,, சுப்பிரதீபம். ,, அஞ்சனாவதி. திக்குக்கட்ட--திசைகட்ட, inf. To bind or fortify the cardinal points by turning to each point, repeating the incantation, as இந்திராயநம, and prostrating in worship, to the regent whose protection is sought; then turning to the next point. திக்குக்கட்டு--திக்குப்பந்தனம், v. noun. Fortifying one's self on all sides by incantations, invoking the protection of the regents of the cardinal points. திக்குநோக்க, inf. To look in any direction, as expecting a friend, &c. 2. To direct one's course to any point. திக்குப்பாலகர்--திசாபாலகர், s. The regents of the eight cardinal points, as protectors of the earth, situated beyond the seventh circumambient sea, and invoked in the daily worship, &c. 1. இந்திரன், Indra, regent of the south-east, whose sign is இடி, the thunderbolt. 2. அக்கினி, Agni, regent of the south, east whose sign is புகை, smoke. 3. இயமன், Yama, regent of the south, whose sign is சிங்கம், lion. 4. நிருதி, Niruti, regent of the south-west, whose sign is நாய், a dog. 5. வருணன், Varuna, god of the waters, regent of the west, whose sign is இடபம், a bull. 6. வாயு, Vayu, god of the wind, regent of the north-west. whose sign is கழுதை, an ass. 7. குபேரன், Kuvera, god of riches, regent of the north, whose sign is யானை, an elephant. 8. ஈசானன், Isanan, regent of the northeast, whose sign காகம், a crow. திக்குப்பலி--திக்குப்பூசை, s. Performing puja. around a temple, toward the eight points, to obtain the protection of their regents. திக்குப்பல்லி, s. The chirping of a lizard, as indicating good or ill, according to the direction on which it is heard. திக்குமாறாட்டம், v. noun. Confusion concerning the points of compass, as திசைமயக்கு. திக்குவிசயம், s. Conquering all regions. திக்குவிசயம்பண்ண, inf. To conquer hostile powers. திக்குளார், s. Owners of boundary lands. 27)

Influence of a planet on one's life, or fortune, according to the time allotted for it in the horoscope, favorable or unfavorable, கிரகபலம். (See தசை.) 3. Influence excited on the soul in any given period, state, stage, &c., during its transmigrations. (See முத்ததிசை and பெத்ததிசை.) 4. Principality, jurisdiction, princedom, பிர புவின்தேசம். (c.)--Note. The two திசை in the சரநூல் are: 1. இயங்குதிசை, the nostril through which the breath, passes for the time being; sometimes called, பூரணதிசை. 2. சூனியதிசை, the nostril through which the breath does not pass. See சூனியம். அவனுக்குத்திசையடிக்கிறது. A good planet is lavishing its favors on him. திசை, 4. The four cardinal points, also applied by some to the four boundaries of the Tamil country. 1. குண கடல் or கீழ்கடல், the sea to the east. 2. குடகுமலை, a mountain to the west. 3. குமரி, Cape Comorin, to the south, 4. வேங்கடம், a mountain to the north or திருப்பதி. திசைகட்ட, inf. To bind the points of compass by mantras. See திருக்குக்கட்ட. திசைக்காற்று, s. Wind which blows from some one point of the compass. திசைச்சொல்--திசைமொழி, s. Provincial words. See சொல். திசைதப்பிவர, inf. To arrive at a place undesignedly, having missed the proper road. 2. [ironically.] To say to one coming after a long interval as a slight reproof, you must have come by mistake. திசைமுகன், s. Brahma whose four faces are turned toward the four points respectively, பிரமன். திசையடிக்க--திசையடுக்க, inf. To be under the influence of a good planet; to be in fortunate circumstances. திசையுடையவர், appel. n. (Hon.) The principal of a district. See உடையார். எல்லாத்திசைக்கும்.
