cintaṉai (p. 183) s. Thought, conception, recollection, imagination, reflection, consideration, நினைவு. 2. Heed, attention, கருத்து. 3. Care, concern, grief, regret, கவ லை. 4. Deep thought, meditation, contemplation, தியானம். 5. Supplication to or desires after the deity in the heart, தேவசிந்தனை. 6. Inquiry, investigation, search, ஆராய்வு. 7. Wish, desire, விருப்பம். (c.) 8. The thing conceived in the mind, as one of the three things about which the astrologer is consulted. See நஷ்டம் and முஷ்டி. Compare சிந்தை. உனக்கொருசிந்தனையுமில்லை. You need have no concern. 2. (R.) There is nothing against you. சிந்தனைகெட்டுப்போக, inf. To become bewildered, or deranged. சிந்தனைப்பட, inf. To be careful, anxious, concerned. 2. To be distracted, disturbed in thought. சிந்தனைபண்ண, inf. To remember, to think, to reflect, to meditate. 2. To make supplication in the heart. 3. To heed, attend to. 4. To inquire, examine. சிந்தனைபண்ணிப்பார். Ponder this well; think over and over. சிந்தனையின்மை, s. (neg.) Freedom from care or apprehension. 2. Inconsiderateness, heedlessness, carelessness. சமுசாரசிந்தனை, s. Family or worldly cares. தேவசிந்தனை, s. Divine meditation or contemplation; attention to divine things. 39)

cēmam (p. 208) s. (also க்ஷேமம்.) Preserving, protection, safety, preservation, காவல். 2. Safeguard, defence, security, தஞ்சம். 3. Hoard, treasure buried, things reserved, புதைபொருள் 4. Binding and shrouding a corpse for burning or interment, சவச்சேமம். 5. (c.) Happiness, well-being, welfare, இன்பம். 6. A secure place, a room, well guarded, அரணானவிடம். 7. A prison, cage, dungeon, or subterraneous prison, காராக் கிரகம். 8. A guard-house, சிறைச்சாலை. சேமம்புகினுஞ்சாமத்துறங்கு. Though you are in a prison sleep only three hours. சேமக்காரன், s. [prov.] A guard. 2. A trusty, confidential person. 3. A thrifty. careful person. சேமங்களைவிசாரிக்க, inf. as சேதிவிசா ரிக்க.) To inquire after one's welfare. சேமங்கொள்ள, inf. [prov.] To smear a place with cowdung, lay a corpse there and dress it, for the funeral pile, or the grave. சேமகாலம், s. Time of prosperity or plenty--opposite to சாமகாலம். சேமதருமம், s. Substantial, or permanent merit, virtue, &c.--oppos. to மா யாதருமம். சேமத்திரவியம்-சேமநிதி, s. Gold, gems, &c, kept with great care. (p.) சேமத்தில்வைக்க, inf. [in ancient history.] To put in custody--as children born under an unlucky horoscope, who are kept from the sight of their parents a certain number of years, according to the prescription of an astrologer. 2. To keep in safe custody. சேமப்படை, s. Weapons in reserve. சேமப்பொருள், s. [prov.] A deposit. சேமமாய்வைக்க, inf. To keep with care. 2. To place one in good circumstances. சேமம்பண்ண, inf. To deposit in a safe place. சேமாதிநயம்--சேமசமாசாரம், s. News of welfare. காரியசேமம், s. Circumstances, welfare, &c, as inquired into and reported. 15)

tāṉ (p. 236) The reciprocal pronoun, himself, herself, itself, the genitive being தன்; in composition sometimes தற். 2. One's self. 3. An emphatic or intensive particle, signifying indeed, really, certainly, தேற் றச்சொல்; as அப்படித்தான், it is so. (c.) 4. An expletive, or அசைச்சொல் suffixed to any noun or pronoun of any person, and declined instead of it, as நிலந்தனைக்கொத்தினான், he dug the earth. 5. Personal identity, சுயம். (p.)--Note. According to the Agamas, the soul is the person or being, and the body and mind with their powers and faculties, are merely adventitious; being the fruit of actions, &c. தானேவளர்ந்துதவத்தால்கொடியெடுத்தவன். One who has grown great and become famous of himself through meritorious austerities; often used of one who has risen by the kindness of another, but forgotten his benefactor. தானொருவனுமேதனியாகவந்தான். He only came, he came alone. தான்சாகாமருந்துதின்னலாமா. May any one take medicine to kill himself? தானுள்ளபோதுலோகம். The world is one's while he lives. தானாக்கனியாததுதடிகொண்டடித்தால்கனியுமா. Will a fruit, not ripening of itself, ripen by being beaten with a stick? தானுந்தலைவனும். The soul and God. நீதான். You yourself, you certainly. அவன்றன்னைக்கண்டேன். I saw him. (p.) அவன்றான். He himself; he certainly, truly, really. தானாக, inf. To be absolute, unique, self-existent, independent, தானாயிருக்க; applicable to the deity. 2. To be assimilated, தன்வண்ணமாக. தானாக, [adverbial.] Of his, her, or its own accord; spontaneously, voluntarily. 2. Of or by himself, herself, itself. தானாக்குதல், v. noun. Assimilating a person or thing to one's self, itself, &c., தன்வண்ணமாக்குதல். தானெடுத்துமொழிதல், v. noun. [in works of science.] The adoption of rules, or language, from other authors, one of thirty-two உத்தி. தானேயானவன்--தான்தோன்றி, appel. n. The self-existent, the deity, கடவுள். தான்பிழைக்கப்பார்க்க, inf. To regard or consult one's own safety, to be careful not to betray, involve or jeopardize one's self. 2. To seek one's own interests, livelihood, prosperity. 23)

Long continued friendship. தீர்க்கசுமங்கலி, s. A woman blessed with long enjoyment of the marriage state, &c.; used in congratulation. தீர்க்கதண்டம், s. The most submissive obeisance, or homage; prostration at full length with the arms extended, சா ஷ்டாங்கதண்டம். தீர்க்கதரிசனம், s. (Chris. usage.) Distant sight, remote vision, foresight, prophesy. தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To prophesy. தீர்க்கதரிசனி, s. A prophetess. தீர்க்கதரிசி, s. A seer, a prophet. W. p. 412.
