The art of painting is but the habit or practice of the hand, and that of language is but the practice of the tongue. சித்திரம்பேசேல். Make no fanciful exaggerations. (Avv.) சித்திரகரணம், s. A poem in the form of intertwined snakes, &c. சித்திரக்காரன், s. A carver, painter. சித்திரகூடம், s. An ornamented or painted room, or hall with pictures, --as சித்திரசாலை.--Note. This term is applied to the temple at Chillumbram, and a mountain in Bundelcund where Rama abode in his exile. சித்திரக்குள்ளன், s. A cunning or shrewd dwarfish person. (c.) சித்திரங்கொத்த--சித்திரம்வெட்ட, inf. To carve, sculpture, grave, &c., on a plain surface. சித்திரசொரூபம், s. An image, an idol, a carved statue, a picture. சித்திரதீபம், s. A painted candle or taper. சித்திரதீபம்போலிருந்து தியானிக்கிறான். He sits meditating, motionless as a painted taper. சித்திரத்தையல், s. Fancy needle work. 2. As சித்திரப்பாவை. சித்திரத்தேர், s. An ornamented car. சித்திரந்தீர--சித்திரந்தீட்ட, inf. To carve or engrave any figures on wood or stone. சித்திரப்படம், s. A picture. 2. (p.) A doll, statue, a puppet. சித்திரப்பா, s. As சித்திரகவி. சித்திரப்பாவை, s. A portrait or picture of a person or persons, real or imaginary, a carved figure. (நன்.) சித்திரப்பிரதிமை, s. A picture, a portrait. சித்திரப்பூம்பட்டாடை, s. Flowered silk cloth. (c.) சித்திரப்பேச்சு, s. Artful speech, cunning, jesting shrewdness. சித்திரமண்டபம்--சித்திரச்சாலை, s. A painted chamber or hall. சித்திரமெழுத, inf. To draw a picture, to paint, to sketch. (c.) சித்திரவெழுத்து, s. Elegant, nice, beautiful writing; caligraphy. 2. Variegated or fancy painting. 3. An anagram, as ஞிமிறு for மிஞிறு. சித்திரரேகை, s. Ornamental lines drawn on the body of a person. 2. One of the lines in the hand. 3. The wife of Kuvéra, குபேரன்மனைவி. சித்திரர்--சித்திரக்காரர், s. Fancy painters, portrait painters, limners, embroiderers. 2. Artizans, carvers, sculptors, engravers, சிற்பர். 3. Carpenters, தச்சர். சித்திரவதை--சித்திராக்கினை, s. Cutting and slashing in battle, prolonged butchery, cutting off member after member. 2. Ingenious and varied torture in inflicting death. (c.) சித்திரவித்தாரன், s. One artful, clever, or dexterous; one fluent in speech. (p.) சித்திரவித்தை, s. The art of fancypainting, sculpture, carving, engraving, &c. சித்திரவேலைக்காரர், s. To pave, to floor, to lay a stratum, தளவரிசைசெய்ய. 4. To catch, to ensnare, to make, செய்ய. 6. )(St.) To kill, to destroy, கொல்ல. இங்கேபடேன். Lie down here; or, I will not lie here. செங்கல்படுத்தமுற்றம். A yard paved with bricks. (Beschi.) இருந்தல்லோபடுக்கவேண்டும். Should we not first sit and then lie down. ஒருபடுக்கையாய்ப்படுத்துக்கொள்ளுதல். Continuing lying down. படுக்கவைக்க, inf. To lay any thing down. பிள்ளையைப்படுக்கவை. Put the child to sleep. படுக்கை--படுத்தல், v. noun. Lying prostrate, recumbent, சயனிக்கை. 2. [substantively.] Bed, bedding, couch, any contrivance or place for sleeping, மக்கட்ப டுக்கை. 3. Litter for a horse, or other beast; sleeping place or bed of a wild beast, a lair, விலங்கின்படுக்கை. 4. Straw, olas, boards, &c., placed in a boat to preserve goods from the bilge-water, வள்ளத்தின்அடியில்பரப்பும்புல். 5. Olas, or straw laid down as a bed on which to place reaped corn, tobacco, palmyra fruit, earthen ware, &c., நெற்படுக்கைமுத லியன. (c.) படுக்கைபோடுதல், v. noun. Preparing a bed, putting litter for a horse, &c. படுக்கைவீடு--படுக்கையறை, s. A sleeping room, a bedchamber. படுக்கைமரம், s. Boards laid loosely in a boat, under the cargo. படுக்கைவிரித்தல், v. noun. School habits, good or bad. 2. School acquaintance, familiarity, friendship. பள்ளிப்பாடம், s. Lesson, or the manner in which a verse is repeated as learnt at school. பள்ளிப்பிள்ளை--பள்ளியிற்பிள்ளை, s. A scholar, a pupil, a student. பள்ளிமண்டபம், s. A sleeping room, especially of gods. பள்ளியறை, s. A bed chamber. பள்ளியெழுச்சி, v. noun. Waking a great person, or an idol, in the morning, with singing and other music, துயிலெ ழுப்புகை. 2. mṇm (p. 341) s. Nuptials, marriage, wedding, wedlock, கலியாணம். (சது.) 2. [fig.] Better circumstances, நலம். அஷ்டமணம். Eight kinds of marriage: 1. பிரமம், marriage of a virgin to a bachelor; 2. பிரசாபத்தியம், marriage by mutual consent of the relations; the girl having been solicited by the friends of the bridegroom; 3. ஆரிடம், the gift of a girl in marriage; her relations receiving as a present one or two cows, or bullocks; or according to some, the girl is placed between a cow and a bullock with gilded horns and hoofs, and the ceremony is comfirmed by the pouring of water; 4. தெய்வம், marriage of a girl bestowed by a deity in recompense for a sacrifice offered by her father; or, as some say, marriage in the presence of a sacrifice.--Note. These four are performed before the god of fire, as a witness; 5. காந்தருவம், marriage by the mutual consent of the individuals themselves; without consulting friends, or having a marriage ceremony; 6. ஆசுரம், marriage in which the bridegroom furnishes the bride with jewels, and pays her friends the sum which they demand for her.--Note. Some authorities mention certain heroic or athletic explcits as the price to be paid. 7. இராக்கதம், marriage in which the girl is taken by force, without her own consent or that of her friends; 8. பைசாசம், marriage in which a girl is forced when asleep, or in a state of insensibility. மணமும்பிணமும் போகிறவீதியிலிருந்துபேசுகி றேன். I assert it in a street where weddings and funerals pass; a strong asseveration. மணக்கோலம், s. Marriage-attire or costume. 2. See கோலம். மணப்பந்தல், s. A marriage-shed erected and adorned for the wedding. மணப்பறை, s. Drumming at a marriage--oppos. to பிணப்பறை. மணப்பொருத்தம், s. A marriage-contract, a written agreement between the parties marrying; or their parents, on giving their children in marriage. 2. See தசப்பொருத்தம். மணமகன், s. A bridegroom, மணவா ளன். 2. (சது.) A husband, புருஷன். மணமகள், s. A bride, மணவாளி. 2. A wife, மனைவி. மணம்புரிய, inf. To marry. மணவணி, s. Wedding ornaments or decorations; [ex அணி.] (p.) மணவறை, s.
