kīccu (p. 113) s. The chirping of birds, புள் ளொலி. 2. The whining of infants, கீச்சழுகை. கீச்சிட, inf. to chirp--as birds, lizards, monkeys; to twitter; to speak or call with a shrill sound; to squeak, to cry-as an infant, to scream, கீச்சென்றுகத்த. கீச்சுக்குரல், s. A shrill voice, a feminine or childish voice, மெல்லியகுரல். கீச்சுக்குரலாய்ப்பேச, inf. To squeak, to speak in a shrill voice. 9)

kurl (p. 125) s. (from Sans. Kura, to sound.) Voice, the voice of one person as distinguished from another, மிடற்றாற்பிறக்கும் இசை. 2. A good or clear voice; a singing voice, சந்தம். 3. The voice of birds, beasts, &c., sound; musical sound, tone, ஓசை. 4. (சது.) The throat; trachea, windpipe, மிடறு. 5. The first of the seven musical tunes, prodused from the throat, மிடற்றிசை. (See இசை.) 6. The same tune on the lute or guitar, யாழ்நரம்பினோசை. 7. The first or lowest string of the guitar, யாழின் ஓர்நரம்பு. 8. A tree, பாதிரிமரம். (M. Dic. குரல்காட்ட, inf. To cry aloud, to whoop, roar, bellow, &c. 2. To call a person. 3. To crow--as a cock; to screech--as an owl, &c. குரல்மாறிப்பேச, inf. To speak with a feigned voice. குரல்கம்ம--குரல்கம்மியிருக்க, inf. To he hoarse--as the voice. குரல்கனக்க, inf. To become thick, heavy, masculine, &c.--as the voice. 2. To become hoarse or thick--as the voice by drinking, &c. குரலடைப்பு, v. noun. Hoarseness. குரல்வித்தியாசம், s. Difference in voice. 2. Change in a person's voice. பறவைக்குரல், s. The chirping of birds. நெடுங்குரல், s. A long clamor. நெடுங்குரல்பாய்ச்சியழ--நெடுங்குரல் விட்டழ, inf. To utter long and mournful cries--as at funerals. வெடித்தகுரல், s. A rough, coarse, dissonant voice. 2. A loud thundering voice. வேற்றுக்குரல், s. A strange voice. 2. A sound (of an animal, &c.), that has not been heard before. கூக்குரல், s. A great or loud noise, clamor. See under கூ. குரல்நயம், s. A good, singing voice. குரலோசை, s. The vocal sound, the voice. குரலெடுத்துப்பாட, inf. To lift up the voice and sing. குரலெழும்ப, inf. To rise--as the voice to higher notes, or to a higher pitch. குரல்தெளிய, inf. To become clear--as the voice in singing. குரல்விட்டுப்படிக்க, inf. To sing out, to give vent to the voice in singing or reciting. குரல்குளிற, inf. To jar--as instruments out of tune. நல்லகுரல், s. A fine voice. குரல்வளை, s. The windpipe, the trachea, தொண்டை; [ex வளை, orifice.] குரல்வளையைநெரிக்க, inf. To squeeze one's throat. குரல்வளையையறுக்க, inf. To cut the throat. 9) *

The fire kindled by the brahmans in the sacrifice towards the south; called also வேதாக்கினி. தட்சணாஸ்தம், s. (St.) The right side; [ex அஸ்தம்.] தட்சணாமூர்த்தம், s. The posture of Siva teaching the four sons of Brahma, seated with his face to the south, under the shade of a banyan, குருமூர்த்தம். தட்சணாமூர்த்தி, s. A name of Siva, சிவன். 2. tāmacam (p. 233) --தாமதம், s. One of three qualities or principles in nature--that of darkness, ignorance, delusion, sluggishness, முக்குணத்தொன்று. (See குணம்.) W. p. 372. TAMASA. 2. Dilatoriness, tardiness, drowsiness, துக்கம். 3. Delay, detention, தடை. 4. Slowness, dullness, sluggishness, inactivity, மந்தகுணம். 5. Reluctance, backwardness, unwillingness, பிரிய வீனம். (c.) சொல்லுகிறதுதான்தாமசம். You no sooner direct than he complies. தாமசசிருட்டி, s. The creation of evil or powers of evil. தாமசபதார்த்தம், s. Variety of food and drinks, மதுமாமிசமுதலியன. தாமசபுராணம், s. A Purana with tamasa imperfections. தாமசப்பிரகிருதி, s. One of a bad disposition, also a sluggard, சோம்பன். தாமசவேளை, s. A time of anger or passion. 2. As தாமதவேளை. தாமசன்--தாமதக்காரன், s. A slow, inactive person. தாமதப்பட, inf. To be delayed, to be detained. 2. To linger, to be tardy, to be reluctant. தாமதப்பல்லி, s. A lizard chirping in such a direction in the house as to denote delay, obstruction, misfortune. See வரத்துப்பல்லி. தாமதம்பண்ண, inf. To delay, to detain, to prolong, to retard. தாமதவேளை, s. [in astrology.] The division of the day--it being in three parts--which is most unfavorable for enterprize. 55) *

tikku (p. 237) s. (Sa. Dik.) Region, quarter, point of the compass, direction, திசை. 2. Protection, shelter, aid, ஆதரவு. (c.) எனக்குத்திக்குமில்லைத்திசையுமில்லை. I have no support whatever. திக்குத்திசைதெரியாதஇருட்டு. Darkness so great that one knows not the points of compass or which way to go. திக்குநோக்கித்தெண்டனிடல். Making obeisance toward the place where a person is-a term of respect or reverence used in epistolary writings. திக்கெல்லாம்வெடிபடப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks loud enough to disturb all the points of compass. அஷ்டதிக்கு, s. The eight points of the compass are: 1. கிழக்கு, East. 2. தென் கிழக்கு, South-east. 3. தெற்கு, South. 4. தென்மேற்கு. South-west. 5. மேற்கு, West 6. வடமேற்கு, North-west. 7. வடக்கு, North. 8. வடகிழக்கு, North-east. Some add two others விசும்பு, the heavens or etherial regions, and பாதாளம், the abyss. தசதிக்கு--தசதிசை, s. The ten points for astrological purposes especially in choosing spots for building houses, &c., are named after certain animals. 1. கிழக்கு. கருடதிசை. 2. தென்கிழக்கு. பூனை த்திசை. 3. தெற்கு. சிங்கத்திசை. 4. தென்மேற்கு. கனகதிசை. 5. மேற்கு. நாகதிசை. 6. வடமே ற்கு, எலித்திசை. 7. வடக்கு. யானைத்திசை. 8. வடகிழக்கு. முயற்றிசை. 9. விசும்புத்திசை. 1. பாதாளத்திசை, which see.--Note The animals of the opposite points are natural foes to each other, the one being pursuer, and the other, the pursued. திக்கடைப்பு--திக்கெல்லை, s. [prov.] Boundaries of land, as mentioned in title deeds. திக்கற்றவன், appel. n. A forlorn, destitute, forsaken person. திக்காக, inf. [adverbiality.] In the direction of, toward. கிழக்குத்திக்காகப்போ. Go directly east. திக்காதிக்கு--திக்காலுக்கு, [prov.] In various directions, here and there, பலதிசையிலும். திக்காலுக்கொருத்தராய்ப்போய்விட்டார்கள். They are gone, are scattered in various directions. திக்கியானை, s. The elephants of the eight cardinal points, male and female supporters of the earth are:-1. East Male ஐராவதம். Female அப்பிரமை. 2. North. ,, சாருவபூமம். ,, அஞ்சனை. 8. N. E. ,, சுப்பிரதீபம். ,, அஞ்சனாவதி. திக்குக்கட்ட--திசைகட்ட, inf. To bind or fortify the cardinal points by turning to each point, repeating the incantation, as இந்திராயநம, and prostrating in worship, to the regent whose protection is sought; then turning to the next point. திக்குக்கட்டு--திக்குப்பந்தனம், v. noun. Fortifying one's self on all sides by incantations, invoking the protection of the regents of the cardinal points. திக்குநோக்க, inf. To look in any direction, as expecting a friend, &c. 2. To direct one's course to any point. திக்குப்பாலகர்--திசாபாலகர், s. The regents of the eight cardinal points, as protectors of the earth, situated beyond the seventh circumambient sea, and invoked in the daily worship, &c. 1. இந்திரன், Indra, regent of the south-east, whose sign is இடி, the thunderbolt. 2. அக்கினி, Agni, regent of the south, east whose sign is புகை, smoke. 3. இயமன், Yama, regent of the south, whose sign is சிங்கம், lion. 4. நிருதி, Niruti, regent of the south-west, whose sign is நாய், a dog. 5. வருணன், Varuna, god of the waters, regent of the west, whose sign is இடபம், a bull. 6. வாயு, Vayu, god of the wind, regent of the north-west. whose sign is கழுதை, an ass. 7. குபேரன், Kuvera, god of riches, regent of the north, whose sign is யானை, an elephant. 8. ஈசானன், Isanan, regent of the northeast, whose sign காகம், a crow. திக்குப்பலி--திக்குப்பூசை, s. Performing puja. around a temple, toward the eight points, to obtain the protection of their regents. திக்குப்பல்லி, s. The chirping of a lizard, as indicating good or ill, according to the direction on which it is heard. திக்குமாறாட்டம், v. noun.
