ciṟ (p. 189) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be elegant, beautiful, adorned, magnificent, splendid, சிங்காரமாயிருக்க. 2. To be graceful, amiable, lovely, அழகாயிருக்க. (c.) 3. To be eminent, excellent, renowned, illustrious, மகிமைப்பட. 4. To exceed, surpass, excel, மேற்பட. 5. To be peculiar, distinguished, விசேஷிக்க. 6. To be dear, precious, valuable; flourishing, அருமையா யிருக்க. 7. To be abundant, excessive, intense, மிகுதியாக. 8. To be auspicious, lucky, fortunate--as a time, &c., மங்கலமாக. சிறந்தவோரை, s. The auspicious hour in planetary configurations. (p.) சிறந்தகாலம், s. A pleasant season. 2. A season of plenty. 3. A time of wealth. சிறந்தநடக்கை, s. An exemplary life. சிறந்தநாடு, s. ciṟku (p. 189) s. Wing, pinion, feather, plumage. இறகு. 2. The fin of a fish, மீன்சிறகு. 3. The wing of a building, a row of houses, side of street, தெருவின்பக்கம். (c.) 4. Small branching channels for irrigation, நீர்க்கா ற்சிறகு. 5. [prov.] The half of a palmyra leaf, பனைமடலிற்பாதி. 6. The leaf of a door or shutter, கதவுச்சிறகு. Compare சிறை. படைச்சிறகு. The wing of an army. (சிலப்.) மனுஷன்சிறகில்லாப்பறவை. Man is a wingless bird. சிறகில்லாப்பறவைபோல். Like a wingless bird, i. e., forlorn, destitute person. அவருடையசிறகுமுறிந்துபோயிற்று. His wings are broken, i. e., he has lost office or valuable help. சிறகடிக்க, inf. To flap the wing with force as fowls, or as birds commencing flight. சிறகாற்ற, inf. To flutter the wings as some birds after skimming through the air, to rest, as birds. (c.) சிறகுகட்டிப்பறக்க, inf. To go with great swiftness, (lit.) to take wings and fly. சிறகுக்கதவு, s. [prov.] A two leaved door. சிறகுக்குடில், s. [prov.] A small portable hut covered. சிறகுகோத--சிறகுளர, inf. To adjust the feathers with the beak. சிறகுமுளைக்க, inf. To shoot out feathers, to become fledged. 2. (fig.) To become of age, தகுந்தவயசுவர. சிறகுமுளைத்தார்பறவையுங்கற்றார். Those that become fledged (whose wings are grown) learn also to fly, i. e., those raised from a low condition assume airs. வாய்க்காற்சிறகு, s. A branch of a main channel in a garden. (Rare.) 17)

ciṟkkṇi (p. 189) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To be reduced; to diminish, decrease, குறைய. 2. To cast side glances, to look propitiously, கடைக்கண்ணாற்பார்க்க. 3. v. a. To reduce, shrivel, close up, கரு க்க. 4. To despise, slight, neglect, frown upon, உபேட்சைசெய்ய. (p.) ஒருகண்சிறக்கணித்தாள்போல. She smiles, as if with a half closed eye. (குற. A sacred periodical festival, a temple procession, &c., உற்சவம். 9. Civilities to guests, etiquette, உபசாரம். 1, Abundance, plenty, copiousness, intensity, excess, மிகுதி. 11. Auspiciousness, propitiousness, prosperity, சுபம். 12. Classical beauty, புலமைச்சிறப்பு. ஊணுடையெச்சமுயிர்க்கெல்லாம் வேறலல நாணு டைமாந்தர்சிறப்பு. Food, dress, &c., are common to men, but modesty is peculiar to the good. (குற) சிறப்பகத்திணை, s. Reflection, discrimination, as a faculty of the mind distinct from perception by the senses; [ex அகத்திணை.] See திணை. சிறப்பிலாதாள், s. The goddess of illluck, மூதேவி; [ex இலாதாள்.] (நிக.) சிறப்புச்சூத்திரம், s. Special or particular rules in scientific, or literary works as distinguished from general rules. சிறப்புச்செய்ய--சிறப்புப்பண்ண, inf. To beautify, to adorn. 2. To show civilities, உபசரிக்க. 3. [prov.] To celebrate a temple festival. சிறப்புச்சொல், s. A specific word, not generic. சிறப்புப்பாயிரம், s. A special preface --distinguished from பொதுப்பாயிரம். சிறப்புப்பெயர், s. Particular, proper, specific or special names--opposed to பொதுப்பெயர். 2. Official or acquired names, titles of rank, &c.--Note. சிறப்புப் பெயர் is derived from eight sources as-திணை, a track--as குறவன், a mountainer. 2. நிலம், country--as சீனன், Chinese. 3. சாதி, caste--as அம்பட்டன், the barber. 4. குடி, family--as சேரன், the (royal) Seran. 5. உடைமை, possession--as உடையன், the possessor. 6. பொருள், property, as பொன் னன், the possessor of gold. 7. குணம், quality--as பெரியன், the great one. 8. கல்வி, learning--as ஆசிரியன், a teacher. சிறப்புவிதி, s. A specific rule. சிறப்பெடுக்க, inf. To solemnize a temple festival, திருவிழாக்கொண்டாட. (p.) சிறப்பெழுத்து, s.
