uṇṭu (p. 59) [ex உள்.] Third pers. neut. sing. of the symbolic verb உள், but now used with all persons, in both numbers and in both திணை, it is, it exists, there is, there was, there are, there may be, there might be, &c. In some connexions, it implies a degree of uncertainly, குறிப்புவினை முற்று. 2. Existing, existence, a thing that exists, உள்ளது. This and the participle உள்ள, (with its appellative) are the only parts of the verb, generally brought into colloquial use. எனக்குத்தெய்வமுண்டு. God is my help, (எனக்கு is often omitted)--spoken of one when deserted, ill-treated, &c. அதற்குநானுண்டுஅவனுண்டு. This concerns him and me exclusively (you need not meddle with it). 2. He and I are responsible for that. உண்டில்லையெனல், Either affirming or denying. உண்டுபட, inf. [prop. உண்டாக.] To come into existence, to become formed or produced by natural process evident to the senses, to happen, occur, தோன்ற. 2. To have origin, உண்டாக. 3. To grow, thrive, flourish, முளைக்க. உண்டுபட்டனவெல்லாமழியும். All that is created will perish, or be reduced to its primeval elements. இதிலுப்புண்டுபட்டது. Salt is formed here. அங்கேயொருகலகமுண்டுபட்டிருக்கிறது. An insurrection is sprung up there. உண்டுபடுத்த, inf. [prov. prop. உண் டுபண்ண.] To make, create, &c.--as உண் டாக்க. 2. To fabricate, make a false story, ஏற்படுத்த. வேதம்உண்டுபடுத்தியசீர்த்திவியாதமுனி. Vedaviasar renowned as the compiler of the Vedas. (திருச்.) உண்டுபண்ண, inf. kō (p. 148) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [com. கோர்க்க.] To string--as beads, flowers, ola leaves, &c., to file, கோவை செய்ய. 2. To insert and draw--as a string, thread, ratan, &c., in a hole, a mesh, a braid, &c., to thread a needle, &c., கயிறுமுதலியனகோக்க. 3. To compose, compile, arrange, to reduce to order, or system, தொடையாக்க. 4. To clasp or join --as the hands, &c., to lock--as the arms, தொடுக்க, பிணைக்க. 5. To fabricate, as stories, malicious reports, கதைகோக்க. சரங்கோத்ததுபோலேகோத்துவிட்டார். He arranged it as nicely as a string of flowers. கோத்திழைக்க, inf. [prov.] To mend a hole or rent in a mat, a basket, &c. கோத்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To thread a needle in hedging, roofing, matting, &c., and pass it through to another person. 2. (fig.) To present in an unfavorable light--as the wrong, injury, &c., done to one by his adversary and thereby to aggravate the enmity. கோத்துச்செய்ய, inf. To reduce a theme to system and make a poem. (p.) கோத்துப்பின்ன, inf. To braid, to lace shoes, stays, &c. கோத்துவாங்க, inf. To turn back the shuttle in weaving so as to exclude the border that it may be of a different color. கோத்துவிட, inf. [prov.] To bring into difficulties. 2. To sow discord, to excite enmity. அத்திரங்கோத்துவிடுதல், v. noun. Setting arrows in the bow and discharging them. (p.) நூலில்லாமற்கோத்தல், v. noun. Fabricating a story without any foundation; (lit.) to string without thread. கோப்பு, v. noun. Stringing, inserting, threading, arranging, methodizing. 2. A medical compilation. பலதுறை, s. (lit.) Many ways, பல வழி. 2. (fig.) Sundry affairs, ways, &c.,நர்னாபேதம். பலதுறைப்பட்டு விரிந்தசெய்யுள். An extensive poem consisting of a great variety of themes. பலதுறையிலும் நடக்கிறார்கள். They are conducting themselves in various ways, religious or other. பலநாட்செய்தி, s. vētam (p. 402) s. The holy books of the Hindus--said to have been revealed by Brahma, but compiled from tradition by vyasa. They are four in number; 1. இருக்கு, Rig Veda, chiefly relating to ritual worship; 2. எசுர், Yajur Veda, concerning the ceremonies observed in sacrifices; 3. சாமம், Sama Veda, containing odes, hymns and chants; 4. அதர்வ ணம், Atharvan'a, with mantras or magical formulas, the least esteemed of the four. உபவேதம், s. The four secondary sciences. These are அருத்தவேதம், commentary on the Vedas; ஆயுர்வேதம், Physic; காந்தருவவேதம், music; தனுர்வேதம், archery. வேதகலாபம், s. Religious persecution. வேதக்காரர், s. [R, C, usage,] A martyr. வேதசாரம், s. [lit. the essence of religion.] The title of a book. 2. A reed, நாணற்புல். வேதநாயகன், s. The Deity as lord of the Vedas, பிரமன், கடவுள். வேதநூல், s. A religious system. வேதபாரகர், s. Brahmans, பார்ப்பார். 2. Those who are well versed in the Vedas, See பாரகர். 3. [Chris. usage.] Scribes, expounders of the Jewish law. வேதபாராயணம், s. (சது.) வேதாகமம், s. Authoritative books corresponding with the Vedas. 2. [Chris. usage.] The Bible. வேதாக்கிரேசர், s. Chief teachers of the Vedas. வேதாக்கினி, s. A sacrificial fire. See அக்கினி. வேதாங்கம், s. Sciences subordinate to the Vedas, of which there are six: 1. மந்திரம், mantras; 2. நிகண்டு, vocabulary; 3. வியாகரணம், grammar; 4. சந்தோபிசிதம், prosody; 5. நிருத்தம், explanation of mystic words; 6. சோதிடம், astronomy, astrology.--According to Wils. சிட்சை and கற்பம், are given for the first two. வேதாந்தம், s. [lit. the end of the Vedas.] A refined system of philosophy taught by Vyasa in the Uttara-mimamsa, and reduced by himself to 5 stanzas. It was commented on by Madevacharya, Sankaracharya, and Ramanujacharya, severally in the Dwaita, Adwaita, and Visishta--adwaita systems. The first and last allow a distinct existence of matter, but not its eternity. The second denies the real existence of matter, and resolves all existence into God. The Vedanta, simply stated, is a system of Pantheism. See அத்துவிதம் and துவிதம். 2. The thirty-two Upanishads, or appendixes, to the Vedas. See சாஸ்திரம். வேதாந்தசூடாமணி, s.
