āṟṟu (p. 43) கிறேன், ஆற்றினேன், வேன், ஆற்ற, v. a. To cool, refresh, குளிரச்செய்ய. 2. To assuage, appease, alleviate, soothe, console, compose, lull, mitigate, தணிக்க. 3. To slack, loosen what is tied or twisted, முறுக்குத்தளர்த்த. (c.) 4. (p.) To do, act, perform a duty, செய்ய. 5. To bear a weight, தாங்க. 6. To carry, or sustain a burden or calamity, பொறுக்க.--Note. This verb is sometimes used impersonally--as இந்த வழியென்னாலேயாற்றாது. I cannot get along this road. ஆற்ற, inf. [used adverbially.] Greatly, exceedingly, மிகுதியாய். அமிழ்தினுமாற்றவினிதே. Sweeter than nectar. (குறள்.) கணவராற்றமுனிந்தே. The husbands greatly resenting. ஆற்றாக்கேடு, s. Extreme poverty, indigence exigence, great necessity. ஆற்றாச்சண்டி, s. One who perversely persists in application for aid through poverty, one past shame, an insatiable wretch. ஆற்றாத்தனம், s. Insatiableness. ஆற்றாப்பட்சம், s. What cannot be borne, intolerableness--as ஆற்றாமை. ஆற்றாமை, neg. v. noun. Inability to bear--as excessive hunger, pain, &c., சகிக்கக்கூடாமை. 2. Impatience, பொறா மை. 3. Voracity, voraciousness, insatiableness, திருத்தியின்மை. ஆற்றார், s. Foes, opponents, rivals, those who envy one, பகைவர். 2. The poor, the afflicted, தரித்திரர். (p.) ஆற்றிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To cool and give. 2. To help or relieve one at work. ஆற்றித்தேற்ற, inf. To soothe and console. ஆற்றிப்போற்றிக்கொள்ள, inf. To treat guests with civility, விருந்தினரை யுபசரிக்க. 2. To render aid--as to a sick person, to help one in distress, துன்புற்றோ ரைக்காக்க. 3. To console, ஆற்ற. ஆற்றுவிக்க, inf. [causal.] To console, cherish, afford consolation, தணி யச்செய்ய. 2. To inspire with courage, வலிதர. 3. To enable to bear, or endure, உறுதிசெய்ய. ஆற்றல், v. noun. Cooling, assuaging, consoling, &c. 2. Enduring, bearing patiently. 3. Bearing a load.

A benevolent, gracious person. தயாபரன், s. (voc. தயாபரா.) The gracious god. 2. (fem. தயாபரி.) A beneficent man. நரசீலதயாபரர். God, who is bountiful towards men. தயாமூர்்த்தி, s. The incarnation of benevolence. தயாவிருத்தி, s. Increase of grace, கிரு பைமிகுதல். 2. The fourteen acts of beneficence, தயாவிருத்தி, 14.--The first seven relate to the soul, the other seven to the body. Of the soul; 1. களாபடனம், education, communication of knowledge, கல் விபயிற்றுகை; 2. வியாதாகாரம், comfort to the afflicted, consolation of mind, துயர்தீர்க்கை; 3. நிர்க்கத்தண்டனம், relieving from punishment, தண்டம்நீக்குகை; 4. சந்தேகவாரணம், removing doubts, contingency, &c., ஐயந் தேற்றுகை; 5. அன்னியகுணசகனம், hearing of the superiority of others without envy, and enduring their infirmities with patience, பிறந்குணத்தழுக்காறின்றிப்பொறுத்தல்; 6. பரதிருதுனயோகம், forgetting the evils inflicted by others and seeking to do them good, பிறராற்செய்யப்படுந்தீமையைமறந்தூன்றிநி னைக்கை; 7. பார்த்ததேவப்பிராத்திதம், praying for the prosperity and good of others, பிறர்நிமித்தந்தேவனைவழிபடுதல். Those regarding the body or சத்தாங் கோபகராம் are: 1. அன்னம், food, giving boiled rice, உணவு; 2. பானம், drink, குடிக்க நீர்; 3. அம்பரம், raiment, வஸ்திரம்; 4. மந்திரம், a dwelling, இடம்; 5. தாசபாலனம். preservation from slavery, அடிமைகாத்தல்; 6. காராமயத்திரிதயமோசனம், removing the three afflictions of captivity, சிறைநோய் மூன்றுந்தீர்த்தல். viz.: restraint from the calls of nature, மலசலவாதை; corporal punishments, சரீரதண்டனை; chains, fetters, விலங்கு போடல். 7. சவச்சேமம், burial, பிரேதமடக்கல். There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *

tēṟu (p. 260) கிறேன், தேறினேன், வேன், தேற, v. n. To recover strength, vigor, &c.,-as persons, beasts, plants, to grow well-as vegetation; to thrive, improve, செழிக்க. 2. To recover from swooning, intoxication, drooping, தெளிய. 3. To be comforted, consoled, solaced, soothed; to recover from fear, to cheer up, take courage, தைரியங்கொள்ள. 4. To make proficiency, arrive at perfection in a lesson, or in an art, &c., அதிகரிக்க. 5. To be through, accomplished, celebrated, perfect, mature, clear as the mind, to come to perfection, maturity, முதிர. 6. To prove, to result, to amount to--as profit, to turn out clear, பலிக்க. (c.) 7. To become stiff, hard, &c.,as boiled rice, fruits, &c., when cole, சோறு முதலியவிறைக்க. 8. To stay, abide, தங்க. (சது.) 9. v. a. To form as opinion, to ascertain, to arrive at certainty, நிச்சயிக்க. 1. To confide, trust in, நம்ப. ஒருமுழந்தேறும். There will be one cubit clear. தேறலர்--தேறலார், s. Foes, enemies, பகைவர். 2. Ignorant persons, அறியாதார். தேறவிசாரிக்க, inf. [also தீரவிசாரிக்க.] To Investigate throughly so as to be certain. தேறாமை, v. noun. (neg.) Uncertainty, unfruitfulness, unsteadiness. தேறார், appel. n. An தேறலர். தேறின எழுத்து, s. A finished handwriting. See under எழுத்து. தேறினகட்டை, s. (fig. in cant.) an experienced person. தேறினகாய், s. A nearly ripe fruit. தேறினபயிர், s. Thriving vegetation. தேறினபுத்தி, s. Improved intellect. 2. Good parts. தேறினவன், appel. n. A man well versed in an art, a man of experience. தேறுகடை, s. Settlement, finishing, தீர்மானம். தேறுகடைபண்ண, inf. To make a settlement, come to a decision. தேறுசூடு, s. [prov.] Branding cattle to promote their fattening, தெளிவுசூடு. 2. Determination, finishing of a business, துணிவு. 3. Staying, standing, தங்கல். (சது.) 4. Relief from sickness, குணமாதல். 5. Comfort, consolation, solace, ஆறுதல். தேறுதல்சொல்ல, inf. To comfort, console, cheer. (c.) தேற்றம், v. noun. Certainty, assurance, &c., as தேறல், 1, 2. (சது.) 2. Clearness, தெளிவு. 3. [in gram.] An empatic, ஏ, or மன்ற, as expressive of certainty, emphasis, &c., தேற்றக்குறிப்பு. 4. Recovery from sorrow, &c., as தேற்றரவு. 5. Comfort, as தேறல். 6. Thriving, firmness, good growth, செழிப்பு. ஆள்தேற்றமாயிருக்கிறான். The person has gained strength, flesh, &c. தேற்றக்குறிப்பு--தேற்றப்பொருள், s. See தேற்றல். தேற்றங்கொடுக்க, inf. To comfort, console, encourage. 2. To gain or recover strength, grow stout and firm, to thrive as persons, beasts, &c. 3. To recover from dejection, to be cheerful as தெளிவுகொடுக்க. தேற்றஞ்செய்ய, தேற்றம்பண்ண, inf. To comfort, console, encourage. தேற்றமாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak comfortably. தேற்றமானபயிர், s.
