ārūṭam (p. 41) s. Rising, the state of being risen or having ascended, ஏறுகை. Wils. p. 119. AROOD'HA. (p.) 2. The point in reference to the zodiac, where a person stands to consult the astrologer--or the sign designated by that, mentioned at the time--one of the three parts in divination made by astrologers. See கவிப்பு and உத யம். ஆரூடம்பார்க்க, inf. To foretell, to divine by the aspect of the planets and the signs of the zodiac, in reference to the place where the person stands; also by consulting the five kinds of birds, according to the rules of augury. ஆரூடன், s. tṉ (p. 231) (oblique of தான். His, hers, its. தனது. (sing. gen. of தான்.) His, hers, its. தன்காரியம், s. One's pursuits, self-interest. தன்காரியப்புலி. One who cares only for himself, a self-interested person. தன்காலம், s. Its own appropriate season, time of a person's power, or prosperity; or the period when a thing prevails, as rain in the monsoon, தன் னுடையகாலம். தன்குலம்வெட்டி, appel. n. Destroyer of his own family, தனதுவமிசத்தைக்கெடுக் கிறவன். 2. (fig. as a riddle.) The handle of an axe, கோடரிக்காம்பு. தன்கொண்டி, s. Self-will, one's pleasure, without consulting subordinates. தன்படுவன், s. [prov.] Natural formation, as of salt, in distinction from artificial, விளையுப்பு. தன்பாடு, v. noun. Attending to one's own business, going on in one's own way. . He is going on quietly, without interfering with others. தன்பால், s. (com. தனிப்பால்.) Pure milk. 2. See பால். தன்பிடி, s. One's opinion, religious or other. 2. Religious confidence. தன்பொருட்டனுமானம், s. [in log.] Inference from experience or observation applied to one's benefit, as opposed to பிறர்பொருட்டனுமானம். தன்பொறுப்பு, v. noun. Personal responsibility. தன்மயம், s. His own nature, தற்சுபா வம். (P.) தன்மனம், s. Uncontrolled, at liberty. 2. Self-will--as தன்கொண்டி. தன்மூப்பு, v. noun. Youthful arrogance, forwardness, self-will, இறுமாப்பு. 2. His own master, தன்னிஷ்டம். தன்மூப்பானவன்--தன்மூப்பாய்நடக் கிறவன், appel. n. An assuming, arrogant youth; an upstart. 2. One who acts on his own responsibility. தன்மூப்புச்செலுத்த--தன்மூப்புப்பண் ண, inf. To act on one's own responsibility. தன்மேம்பாடு, v. noun. One's abilities, greatness, influence, தன்பெருமை. தன்மேம்பாட்டுரை, s. [a figure in rhetoric.] Declaration of one's greatness, abilities &c., ஓரலங்காரம், அஃது தற்பு கழ்ச்சி. தன்வசம், s. In one's power. (c.) தன்வசப்படுத்த, inf. To take under charge, to appropriate a thing to one's own use. தன்வயத்தனாதல், v. noun. Independence or self-existence--one of the eight attributes of God, கடவுளெண்கு ணத்தொன்று. (p.) தன்வழி, s. One's parentage, or ancestry, one's relations, தன்மரபோர். தன்வழிப்படுத்த, inf. To bring to one's party, interest or religion; to proselyte. 2. To connect another family with one's own, by marriage. தன்விருத்தி, s. One's own employment. 2. One's daily occupation. தன்வினை, s. One's innate depravity, தன்னிருதயத்தின்கேடு. 2. Evil actions as resulting in future sufferings, ஊழ்வினை. 3. [in gram.] The intransitive or neuter verb, as பிறவினை is active. தன்வினைதன்னைச்சுடும். One's own devices prove his ruin. தன்வேதனை, s. Self-experience, selfperception, self-knowledge, சுயபரீட்சை. (p.) தன்வேதனைக்காட்சி, s. Perception by experience, &c. See காட்சி. தன்னடக்கம், s. Modesty, in regard to learning, wealth, &c. 2. Self-restraint, self-denial. 3. Self-possession, self-command. 4. Self-abasement. தன்னயம், s. Self-interest, one's own benefit, profit, self-indulgence. 2. Selfishness. தன்னரசு, s. Want of just administration of government, a state of anarchy. தன்னரசுநாடு, s. A country whose government is democratic or republican. தன்னரண்காத்தல், v. noun. One of the eight kinds of victory. See வெற்றி. தன்னவன், s. One nearly related or of the same party. தன்னறிவு, s. Consciousness, self-knowledge, சுயவறிவு. 2. Sobriety, recollection, self-possession, தன்னினைவு. 3. One's own knowledge, தனக்குரியவுணர்ச்சி. தன்னாணை, s. An oath upon one's self, person, life or soul. தன்னாரவாரம், s. One's own pleasure, free choice, preference. தன்னாலேதான்கெட, inf. To be ruined by one's own folly. தன்னிச்சை--தன்னிஷ்டம், s. Free will, one's own choice, எதேச்சை. 2. Self-will, independence, தன்கொண்டி. 3. Freedom, liberation from slavery, ஆளப் படாமை. தன்னிரைமீட்டல், v. noun. One of the eight kinds of victory. See வெற்றி. தன்னிலை, s. One's proper standing, nature, or state, சுபாவநிலை. 2. Equilibrium of the proper state of the numerous parts of the system, சமனாய்நிற்கை. தன்னிறமாக்கி, appel. n. A kind of hornet or wasp hat changes a grub to its own likeness. தன்னிறம், s. The color of red ochre, கற்காவி. தன்னீங்கல், v. noun. Liberty. 2. Independence, தன்னிஷ்டம். 3. Unconnectedness, சேராமை. தன்னுடையவன், appel. n. A client, a friend, a relation. தன்னெடுப்பு, v. noun. [prov.] Arrogance, self-importance, அத்தை. 2. Determined perseverance in a thing undertaken for credit's sake, தன்முயற்சி. தன்னைக்கட்ட, inf. [vul. தன்னக்கட்ட.] To be just sufficient for one's support. 2. v. a. To defend one's self by incantations, while going in the dark, in danger of wild beasts, &c. See கட்டு, v. செலவுக்குத்தன்னைக்கட்டும். It will be just sufficient for his expenses. தன்னைக்கட்டிநடக்கிறவன், appel. n. A frugal person, one who keeps within his income. தன்னைத்தாழ்த்த, inf. To humble or to abase one's self. தன்னைப்புகழ்தல், v. noun. Praising one's self. தன்னைப்புகழ்தலுந்தகும்புலவோர்க்கே. It becomes a poet to praise himself. தன்னையறிதல், v. noun. A girl becoming marriageable, பருவம்வாய்புறல். 2. Knowing one's self; i. e. knowing the power of the soul--as the ascetic, ஆ ன்மநிலையையுணர்தல். தன்னையறியாதசன்னதமில்லை. There is no want of self-possession; spoken of one supposed to be possessed by an evil spirit, yet retaining his conning. தன்னையறிந்தவன்தலைவனைஅறிவான். He who knows himself will know God. தன்னைமறந்தவன், appel. n. A selfrenouncing person, as an ascetic or a ஞானி. தன்னைமறுத்தல், v. noun. Self-denial. தன்னைவாட்டுதல்--தன்னையொறுத்தல், v. noun. niṉai (p. 277) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To think, consider, reflect, யோசிக்க. 2. To meditate, contemplate, சிந்திக்க. 3. To extend, design, have in view, எண்ண. 4. To bear in mind, call or recall to mind, to remember, ஞாபகஞ்செய்ய. 5. To imagine, fancy, suppose, பாவிக்க. 6. To exert volition; to will, to purpose, தீர்மானிக்க. 7. To think upon, to design to eye with mercy, கடாட்சிக்க. 8. To be pleased, to please to do a think, &c., பிரியமுற. 9. To be grateful for, to remember with gratitude, நன் றியறிய. (c.) நினைக்கவும்ஆகும். He no sooner thinks than it is done. நினைத்தகாரியஞ்சொல்லுகிறது. To tell, as a soothsayer, &c., what one has in view and the result of his application. நினைத்ததுமுடிப்பான். He will accomplish whatever he undertakes. நினைத்துவந்துதவினார். Unsolicited, he came to my help. தாங்கள்நினைத்திருந்தநன்மையினாலேஎனக்குயாதொ ருகுறைவுமில்லை. By your kind remembrance I am free from want. அவன்நினைத்ததுசித்தித்தது. The thing occurred as he expected. நினைத்தபடி. According to thought. 2. At pleasure, according to choice. நினைத்தகாரியம், s. The thing intended, நோக்கினது. 2. The thing in veiw in consulting a soothsayer, எண்ணினது. 3. A thing wished for, or expected, விரும் பினது. நினைத்துநினைத்துப்பேச, inf. To tell by little and little, with after thoughts; sometimes retracting what was previously said; commonly in a bad sense. நினைத்துப்பார்க்க, inf. To reflect, consider, deliberate. 2. To endeaver to call to mind, to try to recollect. நினைப்பு, v. noun. Thought, idea, reflection, எண்ணம். 2. Recollection, remembrance, ஞாபகம். 3. Imagination, conception, fancy, supposition, notion, பாவனை. 4. Object, design, intention, purpose, நோக்கம். 5. Care, attention, thoughtfulness, விழிப்பு. 6. A memorandum, a memento, a memorial, நினைப்பூட் டுங்குறிப்பு. 7. Reverie, whim, freak, conceit, வீண்தோற்றம். (c.) ஒருநினைப்புக்குக்கேட்டேன். I asked it for a certain object. நினைப்பறிய, inf. To know one's thoughts, views, wishes or intentions. நினைப்பாயிருக்க, inf. To be mindful, cautious, attentive, thoughtful. நினைப்பாளி, appel. n. A person with a good memory, ஞாபகமுடையோன். நினைப்புக்கூட்ட, inf. To collect one's thoughts. 2. To remind another. நினைப்புமறப்பு, v. noun. Remembrance and forgetfulness. நினைப்பூட்ட, inf. mṇm (p. 341) s. Nuptials, marriage, wedding, wedlock, கலியாணம். (சது.) 2. [fig.] Better circumstances, நலம். அஷ்டமணம். Eight kinds of marriage: 1. பிரமம், marriage of a virgin to a bachelor; 2. பிரசாபத்தியம், marriage by mutual consent of the relations; the girl having been solicited by the friends of the bridegroom; 3. ஆரிடம், the gift of a girl in marriage; her relations receiving as a present one or two cows, or bullocks; or according to some, the girl is placed between a cow and a bullock with gilded horns and hoofs, and the ceremony is comfirmed by the pouring of water; 4. தெய்வம், marriage of a girl bestowed by a deity in recompense for a sacrifice offered by her father; or, as some say, marriage in the presence of a sacrifice.--Note. These four are performed before the god of fire, as a witness; 5. காந்தருவம், marriage by the mutual consent of the individuals themselves; without consulting friends, or having a marriage ceremony; 6. ஆசுரம், marriage in which the bridegroom furnishes the bride with jewels, and pays her friends the sum which they demand for her.--Note. Some authorities mention certain heroic or athletic explcits as the price to be paid. 7. இராக்கதம், marriage in which the girl is taken by force, without her own consent or that of her friends; 8. பைசாசம், marriage in which a girl is forced when asleep, or in a state of insensibility. மணமும்பிணமும் போகிறவீதியிலிருந்துபேசுகி றேன். I assert it in a street where weddings and funerals pass; a strong asseveration. மணக்கோலம், s. Marriage-attire or costume. 2. See கோலம். மணப்பந்தல், s. A marriage-shed erected and adorned for the wedding. மணப்பறை, s. Drumming at a marriage--oppos. to பிணப்பறை. மணப்பொருத்தம், s. A marriage-contract, a written agreement between the parties marrying; or their parents, on giving their children in marriage. 2. See தசப்பொருத்தம். மணமகன், s. A bridegroom, மணவா ளன். 2. (சது.) A husband, புருஷன். மணமகள், s. A bride, மணவாளி. 2. A wife, மனைவி. மணம்புரிய, inf. To marry. மணவணி, s. Wedding ornaments or decorations; [ex அணி.] (p.) மணவறை, s. The chamber for the performance of the marriage-ceremony, மணமண்டபம். 2. The bride-chamber, as பள்ளியறை; [ex அறை.] மணவறைத்தோழன், s.
