அடங்கு
aṭngku (p. 7) கிறேன், அடங்கினேன், வேன், அடங்க, v. n. To obey, yield, become subject to, be subdued, கீழ்ப்படிய. 2. To shrink, become compressed, be reduced in size or vigor, be crammed into, condensed, குறைய. 3. To recede, be repressed, suppressed, restrained, ஒதுங்க. 4. To settle, subside, be laid--as dust, அமைய. 5. To be embodied, incorporated, திரள. 6. To be reduced low--as the system when near death, &c., சாக, ஒடுங்க. அடங்கல், s. To oppose, to disobey, to be contumacious, எதிர்த்துப் பேச. 2. To answer, retort, மறுமொழிசொ ல்ல. 3. To cavil, dispute, to be petulant, morose, cross, வாதுசெய்ய. எதிரூன்ற, inf. Inviting guests, or devotees, religious mendicants, &c.--one of the duties enjoined on a householder as the condition of his own participation of the good things of providence. See இல், house. Counter testimony; a witness brought to disprove previous testimony, மாறானசாட்சி. எதிர்ச்செட்டு, s. Competition in trade, ஒருவன்விற்பதற்குமாறாகவிற்கை. 2. A nutchattra whose influence has respect to movements and interests in the different points of the compass, not an astrological, but a common phrase; the same as எதிர்நாள், or more properly, பக்கநாள். எதிர்பார்க்க, inf. To wait for an expected person, வரவுபார்த்திருக்க. 2. To expect, to look forward, காத்திருக்க. இருகாரியத்திற்கெதிர்பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. A contrary current; leaping in a contrary direction. எதிர்மறை, s. [in grammar.] The negative forms of expression, மறை--அ, அந், ந், கி, கு, வி, &c. are Sanscrit prefixes expressing negation. எதிர்மறைவினை, s. [in grammar.] The negative verb, மறைவினை. எதிர்முகம், s. [in reproach.] A prominence on the nape of the neck, through corpulence, புரைகுழல். ஏரிநிமிர்ந்தாலிடையனையும்பாராது. If the ox's hump grow too prominent, it will not submit to the herdsman; i. e. if one of low rank becomes great, he will despise his former superiors. அவனுக்கேரிமுற்றிப்போயிற்று. He is become contumacious, unruly, &c.--spoken of a slave boy when grown, &c. ஏரிகரைக்காட்டாமணக்கு, s. A little shrub, Jatropha glauca. ஏரிப்பாய்ச்சலானநிலம், s. A composition of vegetable stimulants, given to women after child-birth, காயமருந்து. 7. Condiments, seasonings, கறிக்கிடுங்காயம். 8. (c.) Wound, hurt, bruise, contusion, ஊறுபுண். காயக்காரன், s. A wounded person. காயங்கட்ட, inf. To dress a wound. காயங்கொடுக்க, inf. to give a stimulating compound to a lying-in woman. காயப்பட, inf. To be wounded. 2. To be stained, soiled. காயம்பட்டகுரங்குபோல். Like a wounded monkey. காயப்படுத்த, inf. To wound. 2. To stain, to taint, to blot, to soil. அடிக்காயம், s. A wound inflicted by a stroke. kāṟu (p. 106) கிறேன், காறினேன், வேன், காற, v. a. To hawk, to hawk up phlegm, &c., காறி யுமிழ. 2. v. n. To taste bitter, musty, or rancid--as stale food, காறலாயுருசிக்க. கத்தரிக்காய் காறுகின்றது. The cooked brinjal tastes bitter. காறித்துப்ப--காறிப்போட--காறியுமிழ, inf. To hawk and spit. எல்லாரும் உன்முகத்திற் காறித்துப்புவார்கள்.... Every body will hawk and spit on your face; i.e. if you act thus, every one will treat you with contumely. காறல், s. A bitter, musty flavor, producing often a tendency to hawk and spit; the bitter taste of stale food; rancidity, காறுகிறருசி. 2. An eatable that tastes bitter and musty, காறலான பதார்த் தம். 3. v. noun. Hawking; retching, காறுதல். காறலாயிருக்க, inf. [local.] To feel an itching in the throat. 39)
