iṟngku (p. 57) கிறேன், இறங்கினேன், வேன், இறங்க, v. n. To descend, pass down a declivity or ladder, sink lower; to get down a tree, a precipice, &c.; to step down, alight from a horse, &c.; to crawl down, சரிய. 2. To descend voluntarily--as a bird, தாழலிறங்க. 3. To descend by degrees through air, water, or any other resisting medium--as leaves or other light substances; to fall or sink gradually or slowly; to fall--as rain; to flow down--as a torrent; to fall--as grain from the ear, மழைமுதலிய வையிறங்க. 4. To disembark, get out of a boat, or from one boat into another of smaller size, கப்பலினின்றிறங்க. 5. To be taken down, unladed, unladen, disburdened, சாமானிறங்க. 6. To fall or sink into the appropriate place--as a post into its hole, to be driven home--as a nail, உள்ளிறங்க. 7. To sink--as a denser body, to settle to the bottom--as earth in water, water in oil, &c., அமிழ. 8. To arrive at a place other than one's home, to pitch, alight, encamp --as an army. to halt, பாளயமிறங்க. 9. To get into the right road, நேர்வழியிலிறங்க. 1. To be brought down or reduced, தாழ்வடைய. 11. To abate--as fever commencing with the head and descending to the extremities, சுரமிறங்க. 12. To become reduced, or to descend--as bile in the system (which rising to the brain is supposed to cause mental derangement); hence to be cured of mental aberration, பித்தமிறங்க. 13. To subside--as animal poison in the system (which is supposed to descend from the head to the extremities), விடமிறங்க. கபாலநீர்கண்ணிலேயிறங்குகிறது. The humors of the head have descended into the eyes, causing cataract, depriving the person of sight, &c. ஒருதுறையிலிறங்கிவிட்டான். He has found a resting place; his mind is settled. இறங்காத்துறை, s. A place not convenient or proper for landing, or lodging. 2. (fig.) An improper marriage, connection, &c. இறங்குதுறை, s. A place of debarkation. 2. (fig.) Means, ways for effecting a thing, வழிவகை. இறங்குபொழுது, s. The time of sunset, சாய்பொழுது. இறங்குபொழுதிலேமருந்துகுடி. Take medicine when the sun declines; implying that the disease will thereby decline. இறங்குமிராசி, s. The six signs through which the sun passes in its southern course, சூரியனிறங்குமாறிராசிகள். இறக்கம், v. noun. Descending-as of food into the stomach; descent of a bird, a stream; debarkation from a boat, going down a ladder, &c., இறங்கு கை. 2. A descent, declivity, slope, declination, சரிவு. 3. A ford, இறங்குதுறை. 4. The drying up of the pustules in the small pox, measles and other similar diseases--so applied because it is supposed to begin at the head and to descend, அம்மைமுதலியவிறக்கம். 5. Paths and tracks of beasts in a jungle, மிருகங்கள் செல்வழி. நோயாளிக்குச்சோற்றிறக்கமில்லை. The patient is unable to swallow his food. இறக்கத்திலிருக்க, inf. To be in a low place, to be below. அவன்காரியம்இறக்கத்திலிருக்கிறது. His business is on the decline. இறங்கல், v. noun. The swelling of the glandula by an excess of wind, &c., அண்டமிறங்கல். 2. The subsiding of swelling, &c. from the head to the extremities, விக்கமிறங்கல். இறவு, v. noun. Lapse, passage, a place of descent, செல்கை. 5)

ilkku (p. 52) s. A mark, butt, object of aim, குறி. 2. An equal, that which is in opposition as a rival, a competitor, an opponent, the opposite party in games or trials of ability or strength, எதிரி. 3. Distinguishing marks or signs, அசாதாரணதருமம். 4. Direction, course, tendency, குறிப்பு. 5. Intention, purpose, the object in view, motive, எண்ணம். 6. Means, ability, expedient, contrivance, ஏது. 7. Seasonable opportunity, convenient time, சமயம். (c.) அவ்விடம்போக உனக்கிலக்குச்சொல்லுவேன். I will give you some marks by which you may find your way there. உனக்கிவனேயிலக்கு. He is a match for you. இலக்குப்பார்க்க, inf. To take aim, இலட்சியம்பார்க்க. இலக்குவைக்க, inf. To take aim in shooting. 2. (fig.) To wait for opportunity--generally to do evil. 3. To act covertly through another in doing evil to any one, making him appear as the principal.

ēmm (p. 79) s. Delight, enjoyment, gratification, இன்பம். (சத 38.) 2. Fascination, stupor, perplexity, any illusion, bewilderment, or suspension of the mental powers, derangement, மயக்கம். 3. ēri (p. 79) s. A large tank or reservoir for irrigation, a lake, குளம். 2. [also written எரி.] The seventh lunar asterism, புநர் பூசநாள். (p.) 3. [prov.] The hump of a bullock, இடபத்தின்முரிப்பு. 4. [in reproach.] A prominence on the nape of the neck, through corpulence, புரைகுழல். ஏரிநிமிர்ந்தாலிடையனையும்பாராது. If the ox's hump grow too prominent, it will not submit to the herdsman; i. e. if one of low rank becomes great, he will despise his former superiors. அவனுக்கேரிமுற்றிப்போயிற்று. He is become contumacious, unruly, &c.--spoken of a slave boy when grown, &c. ஏரிகரைக்காட்டாமணக்கு, s. A little shrub, Jatropha glauca. ஏரிப்பாய்ச்சலானநிலம், s. A field conveniently situated for being watered from a lake. ஏரிமடை, s. A watering channel from a lake, ஏரிநீர்பாய்மடை. ஏரிவெட்ட, inf. To dig a large tank. 51)

ēṟu (p. 79) கிறேன், ஏறினேன், வேன், ஏற. v. n. [also used with the impers. terminations.] To rise, rise--as the heavenly bodies-as a kite, &c.; to emerge, இவர. 2. To get upon, mount, to ride a horse, a vehicle, வாகனமேற. 3. To enter, to penetrate--as a nail, a probe, a thorn; as thoughts or advice into the mind, &c., தைக்க. 4. To embark, to get into a boat or vessel, to be laden--as cargo, கப்பலேற. 5. To be elevated, high, beyond, &c.; to exceed mediocrity, to be excessive, redundant, superfluous, உயர. 6. To exceed in number, weight, measure, to rise in price, quality, &c., தொகைமுதலியவதிகரிக்க. 7. To pervade, to be diffused through the blood--as poison, நஞ்சேற. ஏறுகாலிறங்குகால்பார்க்க. To trace the track of an animal up and down a hill, to or from the water, &c.--as a hunter. குதிரையேறிவந்தான். He came on horseback. பயிரேறிவிட்டது. The corn is grown up. சொன்னதுமனதிலேறவில்லை. It did not enter his mind, he did not take notice of what was said. மாவேறமலையேறும். Small sums make a large total, lit. mountains are formed from atoms. இந்தத்தோணியிலெவ்வளவேறும். What is the tonnage of this dhoney? ஏற. [inf. of ஏறு, used adverbially.] High, much more, exceeding, மிக. அரைப்படிக்கேறக்கொடு. Give me more than half a measure. இதேறப்பெறும். This is worth more. விலையேறப்பெற்றது. That which is obtained at a high price. 2. That which is valuable, precious. ஏறக்கட்ட, inf. To build up, to edify, உயரக்கட்ட. 2. To refuse selling that the price may be increased, தானிய மேறக்கட்ட. 3. To be restrained, or to withhold as the clouds from raining, or a cow from giving milk, மழைமுதலியபெய் யாதிருக்க. 4. [local.] To collect scattered grain in a heap, இறைந்ததானியத்தைக்கூட்டிச் சேர்க்க. வானம்மழையேறக்கட்டிவிட்டது. The heaven has withheld the rain. ஏறக்கட்டித்தூக்க, inf. To hang up a thing. 2. To hang one up by the hands--as a school boy, a slave, &c., in order to flog him. ஏறக்குறைய--ஏறத்தாழ, s. More or less, about right, nearly. ஏறக்குறையப்பேச. to insult, to abuse. நூறுபேருக்கேறக்குறைய. About one-hundred persons. ஏறச்செலவழிக்க, inf. To spend extravagantly. ஏறவாங்க, inf. To buy cheaper, நயமாகவாங்க. 2. to be drawn up, distorted--as the neck by cold, &c., கழுத்தேற வாங்க. ஏறவிட, inf. To keep off a vessel from shore, மரக்கலத்தைக்கரைக்குத்தூரவிட. 2. To keep near to the wind--as a vessel, காற்றுமுகமாய்விட. 3. To turn a vessel to the shore, கரைசேரவிட. ஏறவிட்டேணியைவாங்கினதுபோல். Like removing the ladder a person has ascended. ஏறவிறங்கப்பார்க்க, inf. To stare at one, to gaze at one from head to foot, கேசாதிபாதமீறாகப்பார்க்க. நடந்தேற, inf. To be accomplished, to succeed. கரையேற, inf. To land, disembark. 2. To attain the shores of final salvation. ஏறாங்கடைசி, s. [prop. ஏறுகடை.] The very end, அறமுடிவு. ஏறாமேடு, s. A height which one cannot reach, or to which water cannot rise, உயர்ந்தமேடு. 2. An enterprise above one's power, செய்யக்கூடாதகாரியம். 3. An inconvenient engagement, unsuitable contract, &c.--as an unequal marriage, ஒவ்வாமை-- in use, ஏறாங்கடை ஏறிக்கொள்ள, inf. To establish one's self in a high office, &c., to arrive at a high state or sanctity, or to attain a higher degree in religion. See நிலை or பாதம். சாதியிலேயேறிக்கொண்டான். [prov.] He has risen in caste by marrying in a higher family (spoken sarcastically). ஏறிட, inf. To stick into, to cause to enter, to pierce, புகப்பண்ண. 2. To place, set up, fix, ஏற்ற. வில்லைவளைத்துநாணேறிட்டு. Bending the bow and fixing on the bowstring. பருவிற்சலாகையையேறிட்டான். He introduced the probe into the sore. ஏறிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To look up. 2. To attend to one when speaking. 3. To look or stare at a person. என்னையேறிட்டுப்பார்க்கவில்லை. He did not even cast a look at me, he took no notice of me. Amongst the Hindus it is not deemed respectful to look at a superior in the face; even when addressing him or receiving his directions. ஏறுகடை, s. The very end, the extremity, முடிவானகடை. ஏறுகுதிரை, s. A riding horse. ஏறுக்குமாறு--ஏறுமாறு, s. Improper, unruly, or vicious behavior, தாறுமாறு. ஏறுசலாகை, s. [prov.] In building, a large lath passing through the ends of rafters, கைமரங்கோக்குஞ்சலாகை. ஏறுதுறை, s. A port, place of embarkation, exportation, &c., துறைமுகம். ஏறுநெற்றி, s. A high forehead (regarded as a fortunate mark in a man, but unlucky in a female--as calculated to cause an untimely death to her husband), also a mark of a masculine, imperious and irrascible temper, அகன்ற நெற்றி. ஏறுபடி, s. An extra batta or allowance above the stated proportion, to a servant, for expenditure in the temple, for an entertainment, &c., அதிகப்படி. ஏறுபெட்டி, s. [prov.] A toddydrawer's basket for carrying toddy, கள் ளேறுபெட்டி. ஏறுபொழுது, s. The sun as it rises toward the meridian. ஏறுமிராசி, s. The constellation in the sun's path from the equator to the northern solstitial point, உச்சத்திற்கேறு மிராசி. See இறங்குமிராசி. ஏறுவட்டம், s. The difference, less or more than sixty Indian hours, in the passage of the moon through any of the asterisms, also the difference in the கர ணம் and யோகம் as affected thereby, நட் சத்திரமுதலியனநாழிகையேறுமுறை. 2. In the division of the inheritance of lands, trades, &c., the excess above or the deficiency in equal shares, பங்கினளவுக்கதிகமா னநிலமுதலியன. ஏறுவால், s. A long tail--a good sign in certain animals, நீண்டவால். பசுஏறுவாலுமெருதுகூழைவாலும். A long tail for a cow and a short one for a bull are desirable. ஏறுவெய்யில். Increasing heat or sunshine as the sun rises towards the meridian, காலைவெய்யில்--opp. இறங்குவெய் யில். ஏறெடுக்க, inf. To lift up the head, eyes, &c., மேலெடுக்க. 82)

ēl (p. 79) ஏற்கிறேன், ஏற்றேன், ஏற்பேன், ஏற்க, v. a. To receive, accept, admit, allow in argument, concede, welcome, கொ ள்ள. 2. To agree to, assent, approve, to like, ஒப்புக்கொள்ள. 3. To adopt--as a child, a sentiment; to embrace, espouse, receive, அங்கீகரிக்க. 4. To receive alms, gifts, &c.-as a beggar, to receive in hand, பிச்சையேற்க. 5. To stretch out the hands in supplication, begging, &c., பிச்சைவாங்க. 6. To undertake, enter upon, engage in, make an engagement, கையிட. 7. To take charge of, take the responsibility of, கையேற்க. 8. To oppose in battle, meet the foe, எதிர்க்க. 9. v. n. To be suitable for, agreeable to, adapted to, appropriate, becoming, இசைவாயிருக்க. ஏற்பதிகழ்ச்சி. Begging is disgraceful. கட்டளைப்படிநடந்தால்நீயவருக்கேற்பாய். If you act according to orders you will be acceptable to him. அதுதெய்வத்திற்கேலாது. [commonly ஏராது or ஏற்கமாட்டாது.] That will not be acceptable or proper in the sight of God. இதுதிருவுளத்திற்கேற்குமா. Will this be agreeable to the divine mind? is it just? meaning it is not. இந்தப்பிரமகத்திபாதகத்தையுமேற்றுக்கொள்வாய்... And the crime of this brahmanicide you become chargeable with. எதிரேற்றதெவ்வர். The opposing foes. வீடணன்மேற்போனவேலேற்றநன்றி. The kindness of Latchmana in receiving (into his own breast) the dart thrown at Vibeeshana. ஏற்போர், s. Beggars, religious mendicants, brahmans. ஏற்றசமயம், s. A suitable or convenient time. ஏற்றபடி--ஏற்றவாறு, adv. At random, without premeditation. 2. As is fit. mete, becoming, appropriate, proper, suitable, equitable. 3. As one likes, according to one's own pleasure. ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள, inf. To receive, admit, allow, agree, to accept. 2. To undertake, engage in. 3. To take charge of, become responsible for. ஏற்க--ஏற்கவே, adv. Properly, suitably, தக. 2. [prov.] Before, முன் (also ஏற்கன, improperly). ஏற்கநடக்க, inf. To behave properly or with moral rectitude. 2. To act so as to please. ஏற்கை--ஏற்பு, v. noun. Agreement, approbation, பொருத்தம். 2. Acceptation, reception, acceptance, அங்கீகாரம். 3. Receiving alms, &c., பிச்சையேற்கை. ஏற்புழிக்கோடல், v. noun. Applying grammatical rules, definitions, &c. where they may properly apply, allowing of exceptions, exercising discretion, &c.--one of the உத்தி. ஏற்புறவணிய, inf. To dress in the proper fashion, தகவணிய. 2. To adjust a woman's garb after illicit intercourse, தலைமகளையலங்கரிக்க-- a term used in works describing the eight kinds of marriage. (p.) ஏற்றல், v. noun. ottukkoḷḷ (p. 81) inf. To assent, admit, accede to, allow, grant, concede, yield, acknowledge, சம்மதிக்க. 2. To fit, to be suitable, be convenient, comport with, தகுதியாக. 3. To take to account, credit, கணக்கிலேற்றுக்கொள்ள. காலமுநேரமுமொத்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை. The time and the season are not propitious according to the nativity which prognosticates evil, &c. 2. It is not a convenient time. இருவருமொத்துக்கொண்டுபொய்ச்சாட்சிசொன் னார்கள். They both gave false depositions by previous agreement. 16)

oṉṟu (p. 84) கிறேன், ஒன்றினேன், வேன், ஒன்ற. v. n. To unite, coalesce, knit or grow together--as broken parts, two trees, &c.; to become one, to join, combine, இணைய. 2. To be engaged, be intent, &c. on an object, ஒன்றுபட. 3. To agree, suit, be agreeable, பொருந்த. 4. To copulate, புணர. ஒன்றவில்லை. It is not convenient. 2. They are not fit. 3. (They) (the things or parts) are not united, not joined well, &c. தேகத்தொன்றுநோய். Disease which befalls the body. (வைராக்கிய.) ஊழொன்றியிருப்பின். If destiny favor-ஒன்றப்பார்க்க, inf. To unite severed parts--as a magician by looking at them, lit. to look them into one, பொ ருந்தப்பார்க்க. 2. To join things to see if they fit or agree--as machinery, இசைக்க. ஒன்றாதவஞ்சித்தளை, s. See தளை. ஒன்றார்--ஒன்னாதார்--ஒன்னார், s. Foes, unfriendly persons. (p.) ஒன்றுகுடி, s. A family or person living in another's house, garden, &c. See ஒட்டுக்குடி and ஒதுக்குக்குடி. ஒன்றுகூட்டு, s. Concord, harmony, living on terms of friendship, ஒரு கூட்டு. ஒன்றுகூட்டாயிருக்க, inf. To be closely united, be in harmony, &c. ஒன்றுநர், s. Friends, relations, ந ண்பர். (p.) ஓ. The eleventh vowel, ஓகாரம். 2. A particle, இடைச்சொல். It has various uses; in நன்னூல், eight different meanings are given to it. (a) ஒழியிசை, a mark of ellipsis denoting the omission of a counter-part to what is expressed--as கொள லோகொண்டான், true he has obtained his object (but he will not prosper by it). (b) வினா, interrogatives--as சாத்தனோவந்தான், is it Sattan that came? (c) சிறப்பு, speciality, particularity, &c., an interjection of surprise. This is two-fold. 1. உயர்வுசிறப் பு, relating to objects of superiority, preeminence, &c.--as ஓஒ பெரியன், heigh day! he is an illustrious person. 2. இழிவுசிறப்பு, relating to objects of inferiority, baseness, &c.--as ஓஒ கொடியன், Oh! he is a cruel wretch. (d) எதிர்மறை, negation--as யானோ செய்வேன், will I do it? implying I will not. (e) தெரிநிலை, ascertainment, clear perception, appeal to the hearer, &c.-as ஆணோஅதுவுமன்றுபெண்ணோஅதுவுமன்று, it is neither male nor female. (f) கழிவு, bereavement, an interjection of pity--as ஓஒ தமக் கோருறுதியுணராரோ, alas, alas, they have found no way of salvation. (g) அசைநிலை, expletive--as காணியவம்மினோ, come let us see. (h) பிரிநிலை, distinguishing, marking-as அவனோகொண்டான், it was he who bought it. In addition to these it also serves to express doubt--as நீனிறமுகிலோபசியசைவல மோநெடுந்திரைகொழித்ததெள்ளறலோ, is the hair of the damsel analogous to the blue clouds, to the green moss, or the black sand on the shore drifted by the billows (நைட); அதென்னவோதெரியாது, What that can be I know not.

kūṭu (p. 133) கிறேன், கூடினேன், வேன், கூட, v. n. To join with, to combine, coalesce, பொருந்த. 2. To collect or crowd together, to assemble; to congregate, convene muster, கூட்டங்கூட. 3. To associate or consort with one, சங்கர த்தஞ்செய்ய. 4. To unite, knit--as broken bones, பொருந்த. 5. To cohabit, கூடிவாழ. 6. To meet--as rivers in confluence, or as roads, சந்திக்க. 7. To become reconciled, pacified, conciliated, இணங்க. 8. To be able, be possible, practicable, attainable, இயல. 9. To be lawful, expedient, proper, decent, தகுதியாக. 1. To be fit, to be serviceable, to be suitable, பிரயோசனப்பட. 11. To become possessed of, to attain, அடைய. 12. To accumulate, to hoarded or stored up, தொகை சேர. 13. To come to pass, to be brought about, to be effected, சித்திக்க. 14. To be annexed, superadded, அதனமாய்ச்சேர. 15. To come in conjunction--as planets, &c., கிரகங் கள்கூட. 16. To commence, to take place, தொடங்க. 17. v. a. (சது.) To pursue, follow out; to seek, தேட. பன்றியோடுகூடியகன்றும்பீதின்னும். A calf in company with a swine will learn to devour filth; i. e. a man will conform to his associates. இதுஅவனாலேகூடும். He is able to do it. இனிஅவன்கூடான். Henceforth, he will be good-for-nothing. இதுகாரியத்துக்குக்கூடும். This will serve the purpose. நடுவழியிலேகூடினான். He met me in the middle of the road. கூடிப்பிரியேல். Break not (old) friendships. (Av.) அமாவாசைகூடிவிட்டது. [prov.] The time of new moon has already come. ஆளோடேகூடிவிட்டான். He has begun to come into society (from obscurity or boyhood). 2. He is convalescent; he is getting around. ஆகக்கூடியதொகை. The total amount. கூடிக்கொள்ள, inf. To band together; to form an association, to take part in, to side with. 2. To meet together, to assemble. 3. To exceed, surpass. 4. To gain strength and vigor. கூடிவர, inf. To accompany. 2. To prosper, succeed. கூடிநாடித்திரிய, inf. To associate or consort with one, to be on terms of close friendship. கூடாநட்பு, s. False friendship. கூடாவுவமை, s. [in rhet.] A simile in which the comparison is made with a thing having only a hypothetical existence, ஓர்உவமையலங்காரம். கூடாவொழுக்கம், s. Immoral conduct --as of anchorets who in secret break their vows. கூடல், v. noun. Approaching, assembling, &c.; seeking, uniting, cohabiting, being possible, &c.--as the verb கூடு. See also கூடல். s. கூடாமை, neg. [v. noun.] Impropriety, indecorum, பொருந்தாமை. 2. Inability, impossibility, impracticability. கூட்டரவு, v. noun. Collection, aggregate, series, பொருட்கூட்டம். 2. Crowd, association, combination. கூட, inf. [adverbially.] Together, in company, collecting together. 2. Even, also; often in composition with உம். 3. More than due, more than enough, too much; additionally. 4. part. With, together with. எல்லாருங்கூடவாருங்கள். Come all together. குருவுக்குக்கூடப்பயப்படான். He is not afraid even of his guru. அவன்வீட்டிலேதண்ணீர்கூடக்குடியார்கள்.... They will not drink even water in his house--said in disparagement. நான்கூடஅறியேன். I also know it. அவனுக்குக்கூடக்கொடுத்துப்போட்டீர். You have given him too much. ஐந்துரூபாய்கூடத்தந்தார். He gave five rupees in addition. என்கூடவா. Come with me. கூடிய--கூடின, rel. part. Practicable, possible, convenient, proper, &c. என்னாற்கூடியபணிவிடைக்குக்காத்திருக்கிறேன். I am ready to do any service in my power. கூடியமட்டும்--கூடியமாத்திரம். As far or as much as possible; as much as one is able; to the utmost. கூடும். It is possible, proper, fit, practicable, lawful, &c. கூடாது. It is impossible, impracticable, inconvenient, improper, unlawful, unfit, &c. 2. Note to be done--either as command or an entreaty--according to the manner and tone of the speaker. கால்கைகூடாது. My hands and feet are worn out; i. e. with hard work. என்னாற்கூடாது. I cannot; I will not. கூடாதகாரியம். An impossible thing. கூடலர்--கூடார், s. Enemies, foes, aliens, பகைவர். 26)

cantarppam (p. 159) s. [Sa. Sandarbha.] Season, opportunity, time, சமையம். (c.) Sometimes written சந்தற்பம். சந்தர்ப்பமாயிருக்க--சந்தர்ப்பப்பட, inf. To be favorable, convenient. 85) *

camayam (p. 162) s. A convenient, suitable or proper time; leisure, convenience, opportunity, தருணம். 2. Time, season, occasion, juncture of time; emergency, extremity, காலம். 3. Any religious persuasion, faith or system, மார்க்கம். (c.) W. p. 894. SAMAYA. --Note.. There are twelve principal religious systems, of which six are approved and six rejected by the Saiva sect. 1. உட் சமையம், or the six systems considered orthodox by the Saivas are. 1. வைரவம், making Bhairava supreme. 2. வாமம், regarding the female principle in nature, as the primeval form of deity, and teaching the worship of the generative female organ. 3. காளாமுகம், similar to the வாமம். 4. மாவிரதம், teaching that the deity is a pure spirit. 5. பாசுபதம், similar to மாவிரதம். 6. சைவம், Saivism, which teaches that the deity is both spirit and matter; assuming forms for accomplishing his purposes. II. புறச்சமயம், or the six heterodox systems; viz.:-- 1. உலகாயதம். A species of Atheism regarding sensual gratifications as the chief good, as taught by the atheistical school of Charvaka. 2. புத் தம். Bhuddism, which rejects the notion of a Supreme being, maintains that all material existences proceed from a fortuitous combination of the four primitive elements, (earth, water, fire, and air,) and that mental phenomena are the mere results of organization. It regards Bhudd as a deified teacher and object of worship. 3. சமணம். The Jaina system which is a modification of Bhuddism, and regards Argha as the deified preceptor and object of worship. 4. மீமாஞ்சை. A system that regards Brahm as the soul of the universe. 5. பாஞ்சாரத்திரம். A system taught by Vishnu, during five successive nights. 6. பாட்டாசாரியம். The system of Battacharya whose followers regard the Vedas as god, and consider that virtuous actions of themselves result in felicity. III. Other systems derived from these twelve or in some respects similar to them are very numerous, some of them are கபாலம், சவுத்திராந்திகம், யோகசாரணம், ஆத்துமிகம், வைபாடிகம், நிகண்டவா தம், நையாயிகம், வைசேஷிகம், பதஞ்சலியம், சாங்கியம், சித்தாந்தம், வேதாந்தம், &c. The six orthodox systems among the Vaishnuvas are 1. யாதவம், that of Yádava Misra. 2. மாயாவாதம், that by Sankarachárya. 3. இரணியகர்ப்பம், that by Hiranyagarbha. 4. இராமானுசீயம், that by Rámánuja. 5. பாஸ்கரம், that by Bhaskara. 6. தத்துவவாதம், that by Mádhavácharya. சமயகருமம், s. Rites and duties of religion, மார்க்காசாரம். சமயகாரியம், s. Questions, matters, &c., of theology; religious concerns, subjects, &c. சமயக்கட்டு, s. Religious obligation. See கட்டு. சமயக்கொள்கை--சமயக்கோட்பாடு, s. Religious opinions, tenets, &c. சமயசாத்திரம், s. The theology of a sect. 2. Religious writings or shastras. சமயதீட்சை, s. The ceremony of initiating a disciple in the mantras, &c., peculiar to the sect. See தீட்சை. சமயத்தார், s. The followers of a religious system. சமயங்கடக்க, inf. To transcend all religions--as the supreme being. (p.) சமயநிந்தை, s. Scoffing at religion, profaneness, blasphemy, &c. சமயநிலை, s. The commands, tenets of a religion. 2. Religion as observed, believed, practised, &c., by its professors. சமயநூல், s. The religious writings of a sect. சமயப்பற்று, v. noun. Attachment to a religion. சமயபத்தி, s. Religious devotedness to a creed. சமயபேதம், s. Heresy, heterodoxy. 2. Diversity of religions. 3. Schism. 4. (c.) Unseasonableness. சமயபேதி, s. A heretic. 2. Schismatic. 3. One of another religion. சமயப்போலி, s. A spurious system of religion. (p.) சமயப்போக்கு, v. noun. The substance, scope, &c., of a religion. (Little used.) சமயமதம், s. Bigotry, enthusiasm, conceit in religion. சமயமதங்கொண்டாட, inf. To be enthusiastic, to act the bigot. சமயமானம், s. A natural regard to one's own religion. (c.) 2. (Rott.) Constancy or firmness in a religion. சந்நியாசிக்குஞ் சாதிமானஞ் சமயமானம்விடாது.... The ascetic who has relinquished every thing will not relinquish his caste or sect. சமயவாதம், s. Religious controversy. சமயவாதி, s. A disputant for religion. 2. A professor of religion. சமயாசாரம், s. The rites and ceremonies, of a religion according to a prescribed institute. 2. Religious practice, observance of rites. (c.) சமயாதீதன், s. The supreme Being-as transcending all religions, சமயங்கடந்த கடவுள். (p.) சமயி, s. [com. சமயத்தான்.] A religionist, a sectarian, the follower of any religion, sect, &c., a sectary. (p.) சமயமாயிருக்கையில், [adverbially.] At a particular juncture, in an emergency. சமயங்கடத்த, inf. [prov.] To while away time, to loiter. சமயங்கிடைக்க, inf. To obtain an opportunity. (c.) சமயங்கெட்டவேளை, s. An unseasonable time. (Limited usage.) சமயத்துக்குதவ, inf. To help in an emergency. சமயம்பார்க்க--சமயந்தேட, inf. To watch an opportunity. சமயாசமயம், s. Urgent or pressing occasion, unfavorable opportunity. (c.) தற்சமயம், s. The very juncture or moment. 2. A special opportunity. நற்சமயம், s. A good opportunity. சமயந்தப்பிவந்தான். He came unseasonably. சமயத்திலே கையைவிரித்தான். He refrained from helping in time of need. 2) *

cāvakācam (p. 180) s. Time, leisure, opportunity, convenience, சமயம். 2. Slowness, procrastination, விரைவின்மை; [ex ச et அவகா சம், leisure.] (c.) சாவகாசம்பார்த்துப்போ. Watch a convenient opportunity, and go. சாவகாசப்படவில்லை. It was not convenient. சாவகாசத்திலேசெய். Do it at your leisure. 27)

I wish you health. சுகமேபோகலாம். You may walk in and see. சுகக்காரன், s. A whoremonger. (R.) சுகங்காட்ட, inf. To present appearances of convalescence. 2. To indulge or humor one, to allure, give one a taste of enjoyments. சுகங்காண, inf. To recover from sickness, in whole or in part, to be convalescent. சுகங்கொடுக்க, inf. To give health, as God in his providence by medicine, &c. சுகசரீரம், s. A healthy constitution in which the three humours are in equilibrium. சுகசரீரி--சுகசீவி, s. A healthy person. சுகசன்னி, s. A fit of apoplexy or tetanus, from unseasonable intercourse. See சன்னி. சுகசெல்வம், s. Health and prosperity, luxury. சுகசெல்வி, s. [mas. சுகசெல்வன்.] A female enjoying the pleasures and luxuries of life. சுகசெய்தி, s. Welfare, state of health, &c., as inquired after. சுகஞ்சுகம், [an auspicious phrase.] Health! health! spoken by a woman in pouring the last water to wash or bathe her child, and sometimes by adults after bathing, &c, மங்கலமொழி. சுகதுக்கம், s. Comforts and troubles, joys and sorrows, as attendant on the present life, or as awarded by the Deity for the actions of former births. சுகதுக்கஞ்சுழல்சக்கரம். Joys and sorrows are a turning wheel. சுகதுக்கி, s. One subject to joy and sorrow, a soul subject to births. (p.) சுகத்தாழ்வு, s. v. noun. Illness, want of sound health. சுகத்துக்குப்போக, inf. To remove one's self to a suitable locality, for enjoying health, to go to a sanitarium. (c.) சுகமாய்ப்போக, inf. To enter any place without molestation, obstruction, &c. 2. To be recovered from any disease. சுகபேதி--சுகவிரேசனம், s. A mild purgative, aperient, laxative, deobstruent. (c.) சுகபோகம், s. Sensual or luxurious enjoyments; sensual delight. சுகபோகி, s. A sensualist, an epicure. சுகபோசனம், s. Wholesome food. சுகப்பட, inf. To recover from disease, to be convalescent. 2. To be convenient, to suit, to be comfortable. சுகப்பேறு, s. [prov.] Safe child-birth after the full period of gestation. சுகவாசி, s. One living comfortably without toil. 2. Fixed or permanent inhabitant. சுகவாசிக்குடிகள், s. See under குடிகள். சுகவார்த்தை, s. A good account of one's health. சுகவாசித்தீர்வை, s. Tribute or tax paid to land-lords. சுகவாசிவாரம், s. The share of produce accruing to the cultivator of the soil. சுகவாழ்க்கை--சுகவாழ்வு, s. Health and prosperity. சுகவிருத்தி, s. Welfare. 2. Intelligence of one's welfare. சுகவீனம், s. Illness, ill-health. 2. Trouble. சுகாதனம்--சுகாசனம், s. An honorable, or a comfortable seat, நல்லாசனம். 2. The fixing of an idol in its place with due ceremony, விக்கிரகஸ்தாபகம். 3. The last division of the third அங்கயோகம், or posture of the silent devotee, for which there is no prescribed form, the person being left to his own choice, அங்கயோகத் தொன்று. 4. Seating one's self properly, இயல்பாகவிருக்கை; [ex ஆதனம்.] (p.) சுகாசுகம், s. Joys and sorrows. See சுகதுக்கம். சுகாதிசயம், s. News of another's welfare. சுகாதீதம், s. The height of enjoyment. 2.
