iẕu (p. 55) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To draw, pull, haul, drag, tug, drag to justice, to drag along the ground, ஈர்க்க. 2. To attract--as a magnet, ஊசி முதலியவீர்க்க. 3. To attract--as a snare, to entice, allure, inveigle, seduce, draw over to one's interests, வசமாக்க. 4. To strain, stretch, lengthen or attenuate by pulling, to draw out, நெடுகச்செய்ய. 5. To drag one into an affair, to cite, force one to court, &c., to drag one's name, &c. in support of an argument or practice, வலிகக. 6. To strain muscularly, distort the features or limbs in spasms, &c., to have the cramp, to be convulsed; in this sense, it is often used impersonally, வலியிழுக்க. 1. v. n. To linger, to be protracted, தாமதிக்க. இழுத்துப்பாடு. Sing, dwelling on the notes. தாய்வருமளவும்பேச்சிழுத்தாள். She protracted, continued the conversation, till her mother came. அந்தவழக்குவெகுபணமிழுத்துப்போட்டது. That law-suit has swallowed up a great deal of money. காரியமிழுத்துக்கொண்டுவருகின்றது. The affair is protracted, the business is delayed, being involved in various intricacies. இப்படியிழுத்துக்கொண்டுநின்றாலொன்றுந்தீராது. If you protract the matter so carelessly, you cannot expect a happy result. வழக்கிலேயிழுத்துவிட்டார்கள். They have dragged the matter into court. ஊர்க்காரியங்களையிழுக்க To make a long story, unnecessarily talking of other people's affairs. உன்காரியத்திலென்னையிழாதே. Do not draw me into your affairs, as a witness, party, &c. காரியத்திலிழுத்துக்கொண்டுநிற்கிறார்கள். They pull against or away from each other-as two parties, &c., they dissent, are unsettled (fig.), from the idea of two beasts tied together. இழுத்துக்கொண்டுவர, inf. To put off from day to day. என்கடனைத்தீர்க்காமலிழுத்துக்கொண்டுவருகிறான். He delays to pay the debt he owes me. இழுத்துப்பேச, inf. To speak drawlingly. இழுத்துவலிக்க, inf. To draw in a rope, or cord--as attached to a net, paper-kite, &c. இழுத்துவிட, inf. To put off, to protract, to delay, continue putting off and never fulfilling. 2. To bring into court, indict, prosecute, expose to the public. மடியைப்பற்றியிழுக்க, inf. To seize one's lap and pull him. காலிழுத்துநடக்க, inf. To trail the leg in walking--as a lame man. இழுபறி, s. A scuffle, a struggle, strife, squabble, வாது. இழுப்பு, v. noun. Drawing, pulling, draught, a pull, a tug, a twitch, இழுக் கை. 2. Attracting, attraction, allurement, inviting, engaging. 3. Distortion of the limbs or features by convulsions, cramp, &c. 4. Absorption. 5. Draught or force of a current, wind, &c. 6. Procrastination, tardiness, protraction, suspense, uncertainty. The meanings of the verb generally are applicable also to the verbal noun. அதிலே முன்னிழுப்புப்பின்னிழுப்பில்லை. In that matter, there can be no dispute one way or the other. இழுப்பறை, s. A box in a case, a drawer. இழுப்பாட்டம், s. Tardiness, protraction, procrastination. இழுப்பாட்டியம், s. [prov.] Procrastination, protraction, tardiness, delay--used instead of இழுப்பாட்டம். இழுப்பாணி, s. [prov.] A delayer, postponer, lingerer. 2. A moveable peg that fastens the yoke to the beam of the plough. இழுப்புண்ண, inf. To be drawn unwillingly--as some persons when they are compelled to attend court; to be forced or dragged into an affair. 2. To be allured, seduced, decoyed; to be diverted from the business in hand, be tempted, be led away by lust, be ensnared, சிக்கிக்கொள்ள. இழுப்புப்பறிப்புப்பட, inf. [vul.] To scuffle, struggle, contend. 2. To pull one another--as persons intoxicated, or in play. இழுவல், v. noun. [prov.] The act of drawing. 2. Putting off, lingering, delaying, postponing. 3. One who neglects his own affairs and busies himself with those of others. அவனொரு இழுவல். He is a busy-body, drawn into every one's business. இழுவை, v. noun. A being drawn, draught, இழுப்பு. 2. Any thing drawn-as a draught of thorns, timbers, fishes, &c., இழுக்கப்பட்டவை. 3. A long rope for draught, இழுக்கும்வடம். 4. The mark or point made on the ground by a thing drawn, சுவடு. இழுவைகண்டாலடிப்பார்க்கிறதேன்? When the track in which the thing was dragged is plain, why look for footsteps? 37)

keṇṭai (p. 138) s. A kind of fish--the carp, Cyprinus fimbriatus, கயல். 2. The leg from the ankle to the knee, கெண்டைக்கால். 3. Gold or silver thread; lace. (See கண் டை.) 4. [local.] Enlargement of the spleen.--Note. கயற்கெண்டை, குள்ளக்கெண்டை, சாணிக்கெண்டை, சாலைக்கெண்டை, சேற்கெண்டை, தேட்கெண்டை, மடவைக்கெண்டை, மறுக்கெண் டை, மோதக்கெண்டை, வெண்கெண்டை, வெள்ளி மடந்தாள்கெண்டை, are different kinds of கெ ண்டை fish, See these. கெண்டைவிழியாள், s. A woman whose eyes resemble the கெண்டை fish. கெண்டைப்பீலி, s. A jewel fashioned like the கெண்டை fish, and worn by women on their toes. கெண்டைக்கால், s. The leg; also, the calf of the leg. கெண்டைவாதம், s. Rheumatic pains or spasms in the arms or legs; cramp. சூரத்துக்கெண்டை, s. Golden or silver thread from Surat. கெண்டைவியாதி--கெண்டைவிழுந்த நோவு, s. Tenders or proposals in writing. கேள்விக்காரர், s. [prov.] Bidders at an auction. 2. Persons who tender proposals at a purchase. 3. Candidates or applicants for an office. கேள்விச்செவி, s. Listening credulously to hear-say reports. கேள்விச்செவியன் ஊரைக்கெடுத்தான். The credulous ruler ruined the country. கேள்விப்பத்திரம், s. [prov.] A request, application, petition, &c., in writing. கேள்விகேட்பாடு, s. [local.] Judicial inquiry, investigation. கேள்வியற்றஊர்--கேள்வியில்லாதஊர், s. A town without justice. கேள்விமுறை, s. Inquiry into; superintendence, control, management. கேள்வியாக, inf. To be heard, to be reported; to reach the ears--as news; to be heard in court. கை கைகாட்டு, v. noun. Gesture with the hand, as in dancing; beck of the hand. கைகுவிக்க, inf. To hold up the hands joined, in worship, &c. See குவி. கைகுறண்ட, inf. To have the hands bent by spasms. 2. To be cramped in the hands. 3. To be stingy, parsimonious, close-fisted. கைகூச, inf. To be backward in using the hand. See கூசு. கைகூட, inf. To come to hand, be obtained, to succeed, அனுகூலப்பட. அவன்செய்வதெல்லாம் அவனுக்குக் கைகூடும். All that he does prospers. கைகூப்பு, v. noun. Raising the joined hands in worship--as கூப்பு. 2. The distance from the tip of the fingers to the feet, when the hands are joined and raised above the head. கைகொட்ட, inf. To clap the hands. கைகோக்க, inf. To clasp one another's hands, to join hands. 2. To be arm in arm, to take another's arm. கைகோத்தாட, inf. To dance with arms linked. கைகோள், s. A course of conduct, especially in love affairs. (அகப்பொ.) கேள்வி, v. noun. The grand subjects of information under four heads; 1. அ றம், virtue or a virtuous course of action; all knowledge relating to the nature or practice of virtue, or having virtue as its object, including religion, jurisprudence, ethies and every thing connected with the well-being of society, and the promotion of universal benevolence towards all sentient beings. This is subdivided into, 1. இல்லறம், the duties and usages of man--as a member of society. 2. துறவறம், the duties and practices of the recluse, who renounces social life and retires to the desert. 2. பொருள், wealth, property, substance; truth; all kinds of knowledge relating to the nature, acquisition and uses of learning and wealth--including. 1. கல்விப்பொருள், general knowledge, and science. 2. செல் வப்பொருள், property, trade, commerce and the various occupations for gain or the support of life. 3. இன்பம், delight, gratification, knowledge of the nature and means of pleasure and bliss--especially love and matrimony. 4. வீடு, liberation from births, knowledge relating to final emancipation or eternal felicity. --Note. Another classification makes five parts, the fifth embracing the practice of the rules laid down for the attainment of the benefits implied in the four. 72)

koḷuvu (p. 147) கிறேன்,கொளுவினேன், வேன், கொளுவ, [vul.] v.a. To hook, clasp, buckle, latch on a nail, to hook on; to grapple, பூட்ட. 2. To entangle and ensnare, to take in, to entrap, inveigle, அகப்படுத்த. 3. To take into partnership, கூட்டுச்சேர்க்க. 4. To contrive,. to manage by artifice, contrivance or scheming, தந்திரஞ்செய்ய. 5. [prov.] To put on shoes, sandals, &c., செ ருப்புமுதலியதொடுக்க. 6. v. n. To be engaged --as in an employment; to be ensnared or entrapped, &c., கொளுவுண்ண. 7. To make an impression--as on the mind, பற்ற. 8. [prov. impersonal.] to have cramp, stitches, &c., in the bowels or side, &c., குடல்தூக்கிக்கொள்ள. அந்தவேலையிலே கொளுவினபின்பு. Since he was engaged in the business. கொளுவிக்கொள்ள, inf. To hook, to engage, to entangle. சங்கிலிகொளுவிக்கொண்டது. The chain has become entangled. கொளுவிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To entangle, catch, to ensnare a man--as a lewd woman. w. (Rott.) To prosecute a law suit. 3. To hook in, &c. கொளுவியிழுக்க, inf. To challenge one, or provoke one to a quarrel. 2. To bring one into trouble, difficulty, &c. கொளுவிவிட, inf. To fasten on earrings, &c. 2. To engage one in trade, an office, &c. 3. To marry a woman to one in low life. 4. To set people quarrelling. கொளுவிவைக்க, inf. To adjoin. (R.) கொளுவுகயிறு, s. [prov.] The loop of the string in an ola book, by loosening which the leaves may be taken apart. சண்டைகொளுவ, inf. To pick a quarrel. வேலிகொளுவ, inf. [loc.] To hedge; to enclose with a fence of wood. 12)

kōṇu (p. 150) கிறது, கோணினது, ம், கோண, v. n. (Sa. Kon'a, crooked.) To be crooked, bent, curved, angular, serpentine, வளைய. 2. To be or become awry, oblique, aslant, askant, கோணலாயிருக்க. (c.) 3. To deviate, diverge, or turn out of the proper course, நெறிபிறழ. 4. To be warped or discouraged in mind; to be changed--as circumstances, மாறுபட. முதற்கோணினால் முற்றுங்கோணும். If the beginning goes wrong, all will be wrong. This is superstitiously believed. கோணிக்கோணிகொடுப்பதிலுங் கோணாமற்காணி கொடுப்பதுஉத்தமம். It is better to give a little (காணி) with a good will than much (கோணி) with reluctance. கோணக்கோணஇழுக்க, inf. To distort the limbs, features, &c., as cramps, convulsion, &c. கோணிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To give unwillingly. (c.) முகத்தைக்கோணவைக்க, inf. To avert the countenance. 2. To make a wry face. முகங்கோண, inf. To look sour, harsh. கோணல், v. noun. Crookedness, wryness, obliquity, deviation, deffection, வளைவு. 2. A hump; a hump-backed person, கூன். 3. Obliquity of mind, deceit, guile, மாறுபாடு (சது.) கோணல்குணங்கல், v. noun. Uneasiness of mind. To be niggardly in expenditure. சுண்டிப்போக, inf. To be reduced by evaporation. 2. To wither, to be shrunk--as the face, வெட்கிப்போக. சுண்டவைக்க, inf. To let the curry or porridge, &c., become dry and hard, when boiling. அவனைச்சுண்டவுலர்த்திப்போட்டார்கள். They have reduced and weakened him, (by diet, bleeding, &c.) அவன்முகஞ்சுண்டிப்போயிற்று. neñcu (p. 279) s. The mind, the heart; [in popular use.] Consciousness, thought, reason, judgment and will, மனம். 2. Conscience, மனச்சாட்சி. 3. Breast, bosom, chest, மார்பு. 4. Throat, தொண்டை. 5. (fig.) Boldness, courage, daring heroism, தைரியம். 6. Audacity, venturousness, துணிவு. (c.) மறவாதேநெஞ்சே. Forget not O my soul! எனக்குநெஞ்சைக்கரிக்கிறது. To be choked, or stifled in the throat. நெஞ்சடைப்பு--நெஞ்சடைவாதம், s. Obstruction in the chest, ஓர்நோய். நெஞ்சழிதல், v. noun. Failing or being overwhelmed, as the heart with sorrow, or fear. 2. Loss of consciousness, through sorrow, fear, drunkenness, &c. 3. Being overcome with lust; losing self-control. நெஞ்சறிய, inf. [as an adverb.] Consciously. நெஞ்சறியப்பொய்சொல்லலாமோ. Can you knowingly lie? நெஞ்சறிவிளக்கம், s. A treatise. நெஞ்சன், s. [in combin.] A hard-hearted person. See கன்னெஞ்சகன், வன்னெஞ்சகன். 2. [prov.] A bold, daring person, துணி வுடையோன். 3. A person of self-importance, இடும்பன். நெஞ்சாங்கட்டை, s. The breast-bone, as நெஞ்செலும்பு. 2. Throbbing of the heart, from fear, &c. நெஞ்சிலேகல்--நெஞ்சிற்கல், s. (fig.) A heavy calamity, பெருந்துக்கம். நெஞ்சிலேகல்லுப்போட்டீர். You have put a stone in my breast, used in lamentation for the dead. நெஞ்சிலேதெண்டல், v. noun. [prov.] Affecting the breast--as wind, spasm, or cramp, நெஞ்சிற்றடுக்க. நெஞ்சிளைக்க, inf. To become fearful, timid, cowardly. நெஞ்சிற்பாரம், s. (fig.) Burden or weight of responsibility oppressing the heart. 2. Sorrow of heart. நெஞ்சுகரிப்பு--நெஞ்சுக்கரிப்பு, v. noun. A nausea in the throat. நெஞ்சுகாய, inf. To become dry, gnawing, &c., as the breast in disease, causing thirst, &c. 2.
