aẕi (p. 32) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், அழிய, v. n. To decay, degenerate, perish, be corrupted, ruined, wasted, blighted, effaced, obliterated, abolished, demolished, annihilated, கெட. 2. To fail (as a promise), be frustrated as a hope, &c., be refuted, தவற. அழிகரு, s. Abortion, கருவழிவு. அழிகுட்டி, s. A miscarriage, an abortion applied chiefly to brutes--the casting of the young, வயிற்றில்மரித்தது. அழிந்தோரைநிறுத்தல், v. noun. One of the eight constituent parts of virtue, அறத்துறுப்பு. அழிபுண், s. A foul ulcer, ஆறாப் புண். (M. Dic.) அழிமதி, s. Waste, extravagance, malicious intention, கெடுபுத்தி. அழிமுதல், s. Waste of property, as of capital, principal, &c. முதலழிவு. அழிம்பு, s. [vul.] The nin-payment of a debt or the non-restoration of another's property from dishonest motives, புரட்டு. 2. Ruin, devastation, injury, damage, கேடு. என்னுடையமைக்கழிம்புபேசுகிறான். He talks of destroying my property. அழிம்புசெய்ய, inf. To damage a thing. 2. To debauch a woman. அழிம்பன், s. [vul.] A spendthrift, a profligate, ஊதாரி. 2. One who makes excuses for not paying debts, restoring property, &c., புரட்டன். அழியாதபத்தினி, s. A name of D'hurupary, the wife of the Pandu princes. அழியாமுதல், s. Property devoted or entailed in perpetuity to a temple or other charity, நிலையான ஆஸ்தி. 2. God, கடவுள். அழியாமை, neg. v. noun. Incorruption, immortality, imperishableness, கெடாமை. அழிவழக்கு, s. An unjust lawsuit, a groundless prosecution, a frivolous or groundless defence, a lost lawsuit, அநி யாயவழக்கு. கற்பழியாதபெண், s. A pure virgin. அழிகை, v. noun. Destruction, decay, ruin, சிதைவு. அழிவு, v. noun. Decay, injury, ruin, loss, desolation, the act of perishing. கேடு. 2. That which has perished of itself, கெட்டது. 3. Fault, immorality, (in a restricted sense,) deviation from rule, குற்றம். அன்றுகண்டமேனிக்கழிவில்லை. Just the same appearance as before. அழிவின்மை, neg. v. noun. Freedom from decay. அழிவுகாலம், s. The time of a universal deluge and destruction at the end of an age, யுகமுடிவு. கடையழிதல், v. noun. Suffering extremely. நிறையழிதல், v. noun. Being disheartened, dispirited, without hope. 7)

iṇai (p. 45) s. Union, conjunction, communion, fellowship, இசைவு. 2. Comparison, parallel, similitude, resemblance, ஒப்பு. 3. (p.) Two things of a kind, a pair, couple, brace, துணை. 4. A companion, associate, partner, escort, protector, துணைவன். 5. Desire, இச்சை. 6. Women's hair, கூந்தல். இணையினெஞ்சமே. O! mind, debased beyond comparison. (வைராக்.) இறைகழலிணைமேவியவிமலர். Holy men who unite themselves to the feet of the Supreme Being. இணைக்கயல், s. A couple of carpfish, figures of which in gold, silver, &c., form one of the eight auspicious articles placed on special occasions as good omens, also as pleasing to the gods, அட் டமங்கலத்தொன்று. 2. One of the emblems of royalty, அரசசின்னத்தொன்று. இணைக்கல்லை, s. Two leaf-plates --as set before a religious mendicant or pandarum, while feeding him. இணைக்குப்போக, inf. [prop. இணை யாகப்போக.] To walk with another, to walk abreast. இணைக்குறளாசிரியப்பா, s. A kind of ஆசிரியப்பா, some of whose middle lines are shorter than the first or last line. இணைமணிமாலை, s. A poem consisting either of the kind of verses called வெண்பா and அகவல், or வெண்பா and கலித்துறை, in hundred verses and composed in accordance with the rule of அந்தாதி--one of the பிரபந்தம். இணைமுரண்டொடை, s. [in poetry.] A kind of ryhme where the first two feet in a line are opposed to each other either in word or meaning, ஓர்தொடை-as சீறடிப்பேரகலல்குல். இணைமோனைத்தொடை, s. A species of rhyme in which the first letters of each of the first two feet are the same. See தொடை. இணையசை, s. A compound metrical syllable, நிரையசை. இணையடி or கழலிணை, s. The two feet. இணையடிசூட, inf. To adorn, crown one's self with the feet (of the deity or guru) regarding them as flowers.--Note. To place the feet of another on one's head, is a figurative form for expressing great reverence, devotedness, respect, &c. இணையளபெடைத்தொடை, s. A verse in which the first letter of the first two feet is protracted. இணையிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To compare one thing with another. இணையியைபுத்தொடை, s. The repetition of the same letter in the last two feet of any line. See தொடை. இணையெதுகைத்தொடை, s. [in poetry.] The rhyming of the second letters of the first two feet in each line. இணையெழுத்து, s. iṟkku (p. 57) கிறேன், இறக்கினேன், வேன், இறக்க, v. a. To lower, let or hand down; put down--a load, &c., தாழ்த்த. 2. To land a person or thing, கரைக்கிறக்க. 3. To unburden the mind, relieve one's self or another of a heavy care, கவலையொழிக்க. 4. To reduce, bring down, கீழ்ப்படுத்த. அவனுடையகொழுப்பிறக்கிப்போடுவேன். I will bring down his fat; i. e. his pride. விஷத்தையிறக்கினான். He has subdued, or counteracted the effect of, the poison. ஒருதரத்திலேயிறக்கிப்போடு. Take it all down at once. இறக்குதுறை. A place of debarkation. இறக்குமதி, s. Importation, goods imported, இறக்குஞ்சரக்கு. சரக்கிறக்க, inf. To unload, to discharge cargo, unlade goods. பித்தமிறக்க, inf. To reduce bile in the system; hence to cure derangement, or any bilious affection. சாராயமிறக்க, inf. To distil liquors. மரக்கலமிறக்க, inf. To launch a vessel. தைலமிறக்க, inf. To distil. சுமையிறக்க, inf. To disburden. உள்ளேயிறக்க, inf. To swallow in small quantities--chiefly applicable to liquids. இறக்கு, v. noun. A letting down, unburdening, discharging, இறக்குகை. 2)

iṟngku (p. 57) கிறேன், இறங்கினேன், வேன், இறங்க, v. n. To descend, pass down a declivity or ladder, sink lower; to get down a tree, a precipice, &c.; to step down, alight from a horse, &c.; to crawl down, சரிய. 2. To descend voluntarily--as a bird, தாழலிறங்க. 3. To descend by degrees through air, water, or any other resisting medium--as leaves or other light substances; to fall or sink gradually or slowly; to fall--as rain; to flow down--as a torrent; to fall--as grain from the ear, மழைமுதலிய வையிறங்க. 4. To disembark, get out of a boat, or from one boat into another of smaller size, கப்பலினின்றிறங்க. 5. To be taken down, unladed, unladen, disburdened, சாமானிறங்க. 6. To fall or sink into the appropriate place--as a post into its hole, to be driven home--as a nail, உள்ளிறங்க. 7. To sink--as a denser body, to settle to the bottom--as earth in water, water in oil, &c., அமிழ. 8. To arrive at a place other than one's home, to pitch, alight, encamp --as an army. to halt, பாளயமிறங்க. 9. To get into the right road, நேர்வழியிலிறங்க. 1. To be brought down or reduced, தாழ்வடைய. 11. To abate--as fever commencing with the head and descending to the extremities, சுரமிறங்க. 12. To become reduced, or to descend--as bile in the system (which rising to the brain is supposed to cause mental derangement); hence to be cured of mental aberration, பித்தமிறங்க. 13. To subside--as animal poison in the system (which is supposed to descend from the head to the extremities), விடமிறங்க. கபாலநீர்கண்ணிலேயிறங்குகிறது. The humors of the head have descended into the eyes, causing cataract, depriving the person of sight, &c. ஒருதுறையிலிறங்கிவிட்டான். He has found a resting place; his mind is settled. இறங்காத்துறை, s. A place not convenient or proper for landing, or lodging. 2. (fig.) An improper marriage, connection, &c. இறங்குதுறை, s. A place of debarkation. 2. (fig.) Means, ways for effecting a thing, வழிவகை. இறங்குபொழுது, s. The time of sunset, சாய்பொழுது. இறங்குபொழுதிலேமருந்துகுடி. Take medicine when the sun declines; implying that the disease will thereby decline. இறங்குமிராசி, s. The six signs through which the sun passes in its southern course, சூரியனிறங்குமாறிராசிகள். இறக்கம், v. noun. Descending-as of food into the stomach; descent of a bird, a stream; debarkation from a boat, going down a ladder, &c., இறங்கு கை. 2. A descent, declivity, slope, declination, சரிவு. 3. A ford, இறங்குதுறை. 4. The drying up of the pustules in the small pox, measles and other similar diseases--so applied because it is supposed to begin at the head and to descend, அம்மைமுதலியவிறக்கம். 5. Paths and tracks of beasts in a jungle, மிருகங்கள் செல்வழி. நோயாளிக்குச்சோற்றிறக்கமில்லை. The patient is unable to swallow his food. இறக்கத்திலிருக்க, inf. To be in a low place, to be below. அவன்காரியம்இறக்கத்திலிருக்கிறது. His business is on the decline. இறங்கல், v. noun. The swelling of the glandula by an excess of wind, &c., அண்டமிறங்கல். 2. The subsiding of swelling, &c. from the head to the extremities, விக்கமிறங்கல். இறவு, v. noun. Lapse, passage, a place of descent, செல்கை. 5)

il (p. 55) . Not, non-existence, death, மரணம். (p.) 2. The root of one of the negative symbolic verbs, (see அல்) expressive of total or exclusive negation of the thing or quality--the opposite of உள். Sometimes in poetry it stands as a contraction of இல்லை. இற்றிறம்பிலர். They fail not in the performance of domestic duties; [ex இல், house; திறம்பு, failure; இலர், who are not.] இணையில்நெஞ்சமே. O! incomparable mind; O! mind debased beyond comparison. இலி, s. A person, or thing possessed of nothing. பிறப்பிலி, s. He who is without birth--the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். (p.) இறையிலி, s. He who is exempt from taxes; [ex இறை, tribute; இல், not; இ, affix.] இந்தநிலமிறையிலி. This field is not taxed. இல்பொருள், s. An impossibility, an absurdity, இல்லாதபொருள். இல்பொருளுவமம்--இல்லுவமை, s. [in rhetoric.] Comparison with a thing that does not exist, உவமையணியி லொன்று--as எல்லாக்கமலத்தொழிலுந்திரண்டொ ன்றின் வில்லேர்புருவத்துவேனெடுங்கணல்லாண் முகம்போலும், the beauty of the face of the damsel whose eyes resemble a lance, and brow, a bow, is equal to the aggregate beauty of all lotuses. இல்லாதபொய், s. Downright lie, முழுப்பொய். இல்லாதவன், neg. appel. noun. One utterly destitute. இல்லாததும்பொல்லாதுஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To tell lies and speak evil of one. இல்லாமல், ver. part. Without. இல்லாமற்போனால், If not, otherwise. இல்லாமலிருக்க, inf. To be without, be wanting, be absent. இல்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Absence, destitution, privation, இன்மை. 2. Poverty, want, தரித்திரம். இல்லார்--இல்லோர், s. The poor, the destitute, those who are in want, தரித்திரர். இல்லெனல், v. noun. Death, extinction, சாதல். 2. Denying, இல்லையென் றசொல்லல். இல்லை, s. Negation, இன்மை. 2. A defective verb implying absolute negation, added to nouns, pronouns, verbs or participles. 3. Death, extinction of life, சாதல். இல்லையாகியவென்மகற்காண்பன். I shall see my deceased son. இல்லையாகில்--இல்லையென்கில்--இல்லையெ ன்றால். If not, or else, otherwise. வருகிறையோ இல்லையோ? Will you come or not? ஒருக்காலுமில்லை. Never. இதுவுமில்லை--அதுவுமில்லை--இரண்டுமில்லை. Neither this nor that, neither of the two. ஒற்றுமில்லை. Nothing. துப்புறவில்லை--பரிச்சேதமில்லை. Not at all. அளவில்லை. Beyond measure, immeasurable. இன்னதென்றில்லை. It is not described what it is, no matter what. இவ்வளவென்றில்லை. It is unascertained, not estimated, not measured. இல்வழக்கு, s. Unjust lawsuit, பொய்வழக்கு. எண்ணில்காலம், s. Incalculable time. அருளிலார், s. Those devoid of benevolence. இன்றி, v. part. from the root இல். Without. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay. ஒருபிரயாசமுமின்றி. Without labor, or difficulty. பாவமின்றிநடக்கிறது அரிது. It is difficult to live without sinning. 23)

iẕi (p. 55) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To descend, dismount, sink, fall into, to be involved in, இறங்க. 2. To be degraded, disgraced, to degenerate, to be reduced in character, estimation, rank or circumstances, இழிவுபட. 3. To fall below mediocrity, to be inferior, to be below in comparison, தாழ. இழிகடை, s. [vul.] The meanest, lowest, most degraded, மிகவிழிந்தது. (Abusively.) அவனொரு இழிகடை. He is a low wretch. இழிகண், s. Inflammation of the eyes causing the lids to droop, இழிந்தகண். இழிகுலத்தோர், s. Low caste people, கீழ்மக்கள். இழிசனர், s. Persons of low caste, illiterate or ill-bred people, கீழ்மக்கள். இழிசனர்வார்த்தை, s. The vulgar dialect. இழிசொல், s. Disgraceful or improper language, பழிச்சொல், of which four kinds are enumerated, viz.: 1. கோள் --குறளை, an invidious or injurious report, tale bearing, aspersion, slander, backbiting. 2. பொய்மொழி, lying, falsehood. 3. கடுஞ்சொல், harsh expressions, irritating language, scolding. 4. பயனில்சொல், nonsense, idle talk, vain expressions. 2. A vulgar word, இழிவானசொல். இழிஞர், s. Low caste people, the vulgar, the wretched, the miserable, debased, ignoble persons, சண்டாளர். இழிதகவு, v. noun. Inferiority, baseness, disgrace, degradation, meanness, இழிவு. 2. s. Poverty, destitution, எளிமை. இழிதிணை, s. The inferior class. See திணை. இழிந்தோர், s. The vulgar, the illiterate, low-bred persons, தாழ்ந்தோர். இழிபு, v. noun. Lowness, inferiority, meanness, degradation, baseness, தாழ்வு. 2. A hollow or ditch, any hole or cavity, depressions in land, பள்ளம். வெள்ளைக்கிழிபு, s. The less or minor species of வெண்பா verse. இழிவு, v. noun. Inferiority, lowness in rank or character, meanness, baseness, தாழ்வு. 2. Contempt, disgrace, dishonor, ignominy, abjectness, wretchedness, abasement, நிந்தை. 3. Diminution, decrease, a diminished quantity, deficiency, குறைவு. 4. A hollow or cavity, பள்ளம். 5. Decay, ruin, destruction, கேடு. 6. Fault, blemish, deviation from rule, misdemeanor, குற்றம். இழிவறிந்துண்பான். One who eats knowing the advantages of a spare diet. இழிவுபட, inf. To grow mean, base, vile, to deteriorate, be in disgrace, to be degraded, ஈனப்பட. இழிவுபடுத்த, inf. v. a. To degrade, disgrace, deteriorate, debase, தாழ்வுபடுத்த. இழிவுபண்ண, inf. Divination, conjuration in the uttering of oracles--as giving information of lost property, foretelling events, giving directions, &c., by the aid of a demon, குறி. 11. Certainty, infallibility in statements, &c., உறுதி. 12. A dam, ridge, causeway, வரம்பு. 13. Positive injunctions, established rules, duties, obligations, &c.--as of caste, religion, connexions, &c., கட்டுப்பாடு. 14. (p.) Abundance, plenty, மிகுதி. 15. Fortification, protection, defence, அரண். 16. The side of a mountain, மலைப்பக்கம். எல்லாருமொருகட்டாயிருக்கிறார்கள். They have all plotted together. பெண்சாதிகாற்கட்டுப்பிள்ளைவாய்க்கட்டு. A wife shackles the feet, and a child stops the mouth; i. e. a married man with a family can neither go, nor eat as he pleases. அவன்என்கட்டுக்குள்ளேநிற்கிறஆளல்ல. He is not subject to my influence--he does not listen to my advice, &c. கட்டழகு, s. Great beauty, பேரழ கு. 2. Ornament, அலங்காரம். கட்டழல், s. A vehement fire. கட்டாடி, s. [prov.] A person temporarily possessed for the purpose of uttering oracles or கட்டு, a species of divination inferior to சன்னதம், குறிசொல்வோ ன். 2. A washerman in respect, considered as a diviner; many of this caste having been celebrated in this character, வண்ணான். 3. A chief of the washer tribe, வண்ணார்தலைவன். கட்டாண்மை, s. Bravery, superior heroism, intrepidity, பேராண்மை. கட்டிரதம்--கட்டுத்தேர், s. A car constructed for a particular occasion made anew every year. கட்டிளமை, s. Tender age, being very young. கட்டிளமையோன், s. A young lad. கட்டுக்கடக்க, inf. To exceed the limits, banks, &c.; violate established rules, positive injunctions, &c. கட்டுக்கடங்காதது, appel. n. That which is unrestrainable, unmanageable, ungovernable. கட்டுக்கட்ட, s. To tie up a pack, &c., மூட்டைகட்ட. 2. To fabricate, invent a fiction, a slander, பொய்க்கதைகட்ட. 3. To tie cloths to a boil in applying medicine, பருவுக்குமருந்துகட்ட. கட்டுக்கதை--கட்டுவிசேஷம், s. A fable, a fiction, mythological tales. கட்டுக்கரப்பான், s. Eruption on a child. கட்டுக்கலியாணம், s. [prov.] A wedding, marriage ceremony, &c., festival--from the bridegroom's tying the marriage symbol on the bride's neck. கட்டுக்கழுத்தி, s. A married woman, she who wears the தாலி, மங்கலமங் கை. கட்டுக்காரன், s. [prov.] (fem. கட் டுக்காரி.) A diviner, a conjurer, குறிசொல் வோன். கட்டுக்காவல், s. A very strict guard, close custody--applied to the protection of girls arrived at the age of puberty, &c., great care, great strictness, கட்டானகாவல். கட்டுங்காவலுமாயிருக்க, inf. To be in close confinement. கட்டுக்கிடை--கட்டுக்கிடையன், s. Cloth or other goods lying long unsold, நாட்பட்டசரக்கு. கட்டுக்குத்தகை, s. A contract or lease of land for many years together, a contract for a whole dhoney without reference to the number of trips, the weight of the cargo, &c. கட்டுக்கூட்டு, s. [prov.] A fabrication, a forgery, a fiction, a fable, கட் டுக்கதை. 2. An intertexture of letters, a cipher, மாற்றியெழுதப்பட்டது. கட்டுக்கேட்க, inf. To consult a diviner. கட்டுக்கொடி, s. A tether, a rope stretched along the ground to which cattle, goats, &c., are tied by the leg in a row at night, ஆடுமாடுகட்டுங்கயிறு. கட்டுக்கொதித்தல், v. noun. Throbbing, &c.--as a boil. கட்டுக்கோப்பு, s. A building, fabric. 2. An exaggeration. கட்டுச்சூலை, s. A disease, the node, குலைக்கட்டு. கட்டுச்சொல், s. A falsehood, an untruth. கட்டுச்சொல்ல, inf. To divine, conjure. கட்டுச்சோறு--கட்டுசோறு, s. Boiled rice, &c., tied up for a journey, ஆற் றுணா. கட்டுடைக்க, inf. [prov.] To be broken--as a blister, boil, &c. கட்டுடைத்தல்--கட்டுமுறித்தல், v. noun. Making a large breach--as a river in its banks, the sea in the shore --as in the breaking up at the universal deluge. கட்டுண்ணல், v. noun. Being bound, &c., கட்டப்படுதல். கட்டுண்ணி, s. To yield to, to submit, be influenced by, be brought under the power of, be overcome by, கட் டுக்குள்ளடங்க. 2. To be bound by spells or otherwise restrained, மந்திரமுதலியவற் றாற்கட்டுப்பட. 3. To be constipated--as the system; to be obstructed--as waters, as humors in the system, blood, urine, menstruation, &c., தடைப்பட. ஒருமயிரினாலேகட்டுப்படுவான். He may be bound by a single hair; i. e. he will be easily persuaded or prevailed upon. கட்டுப்படுத்த, inf. [vul.] A stiff basket braided with ratan, olas, &c., fastened by tying, for holding clothes, &c. கட்டுப்பேச்சு--கட்டுவார்த்தை--க ட்டுவிசேஷம், s. A fabricated story, fiction, வீண்கதை. கட்டுமட்டு, s. [prov.] Sparingness, carefulness, providentness, அளவாய்ச்செல விடுகை. 2. Unanimity, oneness of feeling, ஒத்ததன்மை. 3. Taciturnity, அடக்கம். கட்டுமட்டாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak with ability. கட்டுமரம், s. To burst out and flow--as water by making a breach in an embankment. கட்டுவேலை, s. A fabric, a structure, building. கட்டோசை, s. A tremendous noise, a loud report, பேரொலி. கட்டோடே, adv. [vul.] Wholly, entirely--used with words implying rejection, destruction, &c., or with negatives. கட்டோடேயழிந்துபோயிற்று. It is utterly ruined. என்னிடத்திலேகட்டோடேயில்லை. I have none at all. கட்டோடேதள்ள, inf. To reject utterly. நடுக்கட்டு, s. A girdle. 2. The middle building of a house. சாதிக்கட்டு, s. The customs, duties, obligations, &c., of caste. சமயக்கட்டு, s. Those parts of the Vedas which inculcate works, rites, and ceremonies, கருமகாண்டம்--opposed to ஞா னகாண்டம். கிரியாங்கம், s. Worship, rites and ceremonies, chiefly applicable to prescribed individual practice--as preparing the sacred ashes, repeating the incantations, touching the joints of the fingers while repeating them, &c., கிரியையுறுப்பு. கிரியாங்கம்பண்ண, inf. To perform the several external actions in the daily worship. கிரியாசத்தி, s. lit. The operative energy or power. [in the agama philosophy.] One of the three active or female energies of Siva, by which he effects the creation or evolution of the universe. 2. the faculty or power of action, operation, &c., as applied to any agent. (சிவ. சி.) கிரியாசாதனம், s. Being trained or inured to the performance of works, religious duties, &c., கிரியையனுட்டிப்பு. கிரியாசைவம், s. One of the sixteen divisions of the Siva system. See சைவம். கிரியாசொரூபன், s. One who is the embodiment, கிரியை; (appropriately) Ganesa, who is considered the impersonation of Siva's divine operations. கிரியாதீதன், s.கிரியையொழிந்தவன். கிரியாபதம், s. [in Sanscrit grammar.] A verb, வினைச்சொல். கிரியாபாதம், s. The second of the four stages or degrees in the Siva worship; [ex கிரியை, et பாதம்.] கிரியாபூசை, s. The worship offered to Siva by one in the second degree. (p.) கிரியாமார்க்கம், s. The practice of duties in the second degree of the Siva religion; the performance of rites and ceremonies, கிரியைநெறி. கிரியாமாலை, s. Inflection or conjugation of verbs, chiefly in Sanscrit, வினைச் சொல்லின்ரூபகரணம். கிரியாவதி, s. A person who practices the rites and ceremonies enjoined in the Vedas. கிரியாவுத்திரி, s. Transcendental and symbolical instruction in the most spiritual rites, by a guru to an advanced disciple--opposed to ஞானாவுத்திரி. (சிவ. சி.) கிரியைகெட்டது, appel. noun. Any thing disorderly, slovenly, ஒழுங்கற்றது. கிரியைகெட்டவன், s. One destitute of good manners, slovenly in dress, or irregular in habits. கிரியைக்காரன், s.
