aṉṟu (p. 34) s. That day, then, any time but the present, அந்நாள். 2. (The third person masc. sing. of the defective verb, அல்.) It is not (that, but something else), அல்லது. 3. An expletive, அசைச் சொல்--as, ஆயதன்றே; for ஆயது, it happened. 4. [in poetry.] அன்று, is used for அன்றி--as, நாளன்றுபோகி, for நாளன்றிப்போகி. அன்றன்று. Daily, every day.-Note. In the high dialect, words which imply time and end in று or டு, are made adjectives by changing the preceding ன், or ண், into ற், or ட், and உ, into ஐ--as அன்று, is made அற்றை, இன்றுஇற்றை; also ஆண்டு-ஆட்டை, yearly. அன்றாடம், adv. Daily. (c.) அன்றினர், s. Foes, opponents, பகைவர்; [ex இனம்.] (பிரபுலிங்க.) அன்றுமுதல். From that day forward. அன்றெரிந்தான், s. A small shrub, ஓர்பூண்டு. அன்றே--அன்றைத்தினம்--அன் றையதினம், s. āṉṟl (p. 44) . An irregular defective noun. 1. Extension, width, breadth, being extensive, அகலம். 2. Greatness, vastness, dignity, being great, மாட்சிமை. 3. Abundance, copiousness, luxuriance, மிகுதி; [ex அகலல், extending.] (p.) ஆன்றகுணம், s. The highest quality. ஆன்றபுவி, s. The extended earth. ஆன்றவர்--ஆன்றார்--ஆன்றோர், s. Learned persons, the wise, poets, the great--as sages, &c., those who are great in moral excellence, சான்றோர். ஆன்றார்கேட்கிற்செவிபுதைக்கும். (Words so wicked that) the great will shut their ears against hearing them. (பாரதம்.) ஆன்றவொழுக்கு, s. Exalted virtue.

il (p. 55) . Not, non-existence, death, மரணம். (p.) 2. The root of one of the negative symbolic verbs, (see அல்) expressive of total or exclusive negation of the thing or quality--the opposite of உள். Sometimes in poetry it stands as a contraction of இல்லை. இற்றிறம்பிலர். They fail not in the performance of domestic duties; [ex இல், house; திறம்பு, failure; இலர், who are not.] இணையில்நெஞ்சமே. O! incomparable mind; O! mind debased beyond comparison. இலி, s. A person, or thing possessed of nothing. பிறப்பிலி, s. He who is without birth--the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். (p.) இறையிலி, s. He who is exempt from taxes; [ex இறை, tribute; இல், not; இ, affix.] இந்தநிலமிறையிலி. This field is not taxed. இல்பொருள், s. An impossibility, an absurdity, இல்லாதபொருள். இல்பொருளுவமம்--இல்லுவமை, s. [in rhetoric.] Comparison with a thing that does not exist, உவமையணியி லொன்று--as எல்லாக்கமலத்தொழிலுந்திரண்டொ ன்றின் வில்லேர்புருவத்துவேனெடுங்கணல்லாண் முகம்போலும், the beauty of the face of the damsel whose eyes resemble a lance, and brow, a bow, is equal to the aggregate beauty of all lotuses. இல்லாதபொய், s. Downright lie, முழுப்பொய். இல்லாதவன், neg. appel. noun. One utterly destitute. இல்லாததும்பொல்லாதுஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To tell lies and speak evil of one. இல்லாமல், ver. part. Without. இல்லாமற்போனால், If not, otherwise. இல்லாமலிருக்க, inf. To be without, be wanting, be absent. இல்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Absence, destitution, privation, இன்மை. 2. Poverty, want, தரித்திரம். இல்லார்--இல்லோர், s. The poor, the destitute, those who are in want, தரித்திரர். இல்லெனல், v. noun. Death, extinction, சாதல். 2. Denying, இல்லையென் றசொல்லல். இல்லை, s. Negation, இன்மை. 2. A defective verb implying absolute negation, added to nouns, pronouns, verbs or participles. 3. Death, extinction of life, சாதல். இல்லையாகியவென்மகற்காண்பன். I shall see my deceased son. இல்லையாகில்--இல்லையென்கில்--இல்லையெ ன்றால். If not, or else, otherwise. வருகிறையோ இல்லையோ? Will you come or not? ஒருக்காலுமில்லை. Never. இதுவுமில்லை--அதுவுமில்லை--இரண்டுமில்லை. Neither this nor that, neither of the two. ஒற்றுமில்லை. Nothing. துப்புறவில்லை--பரிச்சேதமில்லை. Not at all. அளவில்லை. Beyond measure, immeasurable. இன்னதென்றில்லை. It is not described what it is, no matter what. இவ்வளவென்றில்லை. It is unascertained, not estimated, not measured. இல்வழக்கு, s. Unjust lawsuit, பொய்வழக்கு. எண்ணில்காலம், s. Incalculable time. அருளிலார், s. Those devoid of benevolence. இன்றி, v. part. from the root இல். Without. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay. ஒருபிரயாசமுமின்றி. Without labor, or difficulty. பாவமின்றிநடக்கிறது அரிது. It is difficult to live without sinning. 23)

iẕukku (p. 55) s. A fault, defect, deficiency, blemish, ஈனம். 2. Slackness, தளர்தல். 3. A failure, deviation, obliquity, defection, blunder, mistake, folly, தவறு. 4. (p.) Forgetfulness, மறதி 5. Baseness, meanness, degradation, தாழ்வு. 6. Disgrace, reproach, taunt, நிந்தை. 7. Falsehood, பொய். இழுக்குடையபாட்டிற்கிசைநன்று. uṟuppu (p. 68) s. A limb, or member of the body, parts, features, அவயவம். 2. Body, உடல். 3. Part (of a whole) component part, member, subdivision, department, section, பங்கு. 4. Just proportion, symmetry, அங்கலட்சணம். 5. Abundance, மிகுதி. 6. Bough, மரக்கொம்பு. 7. Closeness, narrowness, நெருக்கம். 8. A copy of single letters set for a child to imitate, மேல்வரிச்ச ட்டம். 9. Title deed, registry, &c. of land, காணியாட்சிப்பத்திரம். அந்தக்காணிக்கோருறுப்புமில்லை. There is no security, title, &c. for that land. உறுப்படக்கி, s. A tortoise, a turtle --from the contraction of its limbs, ஆமை; [ex உறுப்பு, et அடக்கி, from அடங்கு contraction.] உறுப்பணங்கெட்டவன். [prop. உ றுப்பினங்கெட்டவன்.] An ill-shaped, maimed, ugly person. 2. (Rott.) உறுப்பினங் கெட்டவன், A foolish, a witless fellow. உறுப்பற்றவன்--உறுப்புக்குறைந்த வன். An ill-formed, or deformed person, அவயவவீனன். 2. An ill-bred person. ஒழுக்கமில்லான். உறுப்பில்பிண்டம், s. The embryo. See எச்சம. உறுப்புக்குறைவிசேடம், s. [in rhetoric.] A species of the figure called விசேடம். உறுப்புத்தோல், s. A species of deer-skin which, according to the shasters, the Brahman should fasten to his sacred cord, நூலிற்கட்டியமான்றோல். உறுப்புநலனழிதல், v. noun. Decaying or withering--as the beauty of a female, on account of the absence of her lover, அங்கத்தழகுகெடுதல். உறுப்புமயக்கம், s. A prodigy, a monster, one whose limbs are redundant, defective, &c. See எச்சம். உறுப்புள்ளவன், s. A vigorous, well-formed man, அங்கலட்சணமுடையவன். 2. A man of enterprising character, qualified for business, திறமையுடையான். 3. A man of good conduct, அறத்துறுப்புடை யான். 4. A man of good manners, ஒழுக்கமுள்ளவன். காணிக்குறுப்புப்பண்ண, inf. To get a title deed passed for land. அகத்துறுப்பு, s. The constituent parts of virtue; they are eight in number. 1. ஐயப்படாமை, Freedom from doubt and uncertainty. 2. விருப்பின்மை, Liberation from the desires of the senses. 3. வெ றுப்பின்மை, Freedom from antipathy, prejudice, &c. 4. Exemption from illusion, confusion of mind, error, ignorance, &c. 5. பழியைநீக்கல், Freedom from evils. 6. அழி ந்தோரைநிறுத்தல், Restoring the ruined or apostate. 7. அறம்விளக்கல், Expounding or elucidating the nature of virtue. 8. பேரன்புடைமை, Great kindness, or benevolence to all sentient creatures. நூலுறுப்பு, s. One of the members or component parts of a treatise. மதிலுறுப்பு, s. The component parts of a fortification. திருவுறுப்பு, s. A jewel worn by bridegrooms upon their foreheads--a sign of the goddess இலக்குமி. செய்யுளுறுப்பு, s. The constituent parts or elements of poetry, as given in காரிகை, they are six, viz.: 1. எழுத்து, Letters forming thirteen classes. 2. அசை, Metrical syllables of two kinds. 3. சீர், Metrical feet of thirty kinds. (See. சீர்.) 4. தளை, Combination of feet one with another, of seven kinds. 5. அடி, Metrical lines determined by the number of feet of which they are composed, five kinds are given. 6. தொடை, Rhyme, forty-three species are enumerated. சீட்டினுறுப்பு, s. The style or different parts of a writ, or deed, &c. 5)

ūṉam (p. 72) s. Defect, want, deficiency --as of a member, &c.; a maim, privation, குறைபாடு. Wils. p. 165. UNA. 2. Disgrace, degradation, meanness, vileness, ஈனம். 3. (p.) Moral evil, தீமை. ஊனமிலாவுறுப்பு. A form without defect, (அறநெறித்.) ஊனமிலான்மானமிலான். (Dharma) who is alike unconscious of disgrace and of honor. -- (பார.) ஊனவெம்பவம். Vile, horrid transmigration. (சத. 64.) காலூனப்பட்டவன். One who has lost a leg, or who is defective in his legs. கையூனம், s. Privation of a hand. ஊனக்கண், s. The defective eye of the body, in contradistinction to the all-seeing eye of the Deity, or the spiritual eye of the sage, நேத்திரம். 2. Defective sight, குருட்டுவிழி. ஊனன், s. One defective in some member, குறைவுள்ளோன். 9)

ūmṇai (p. 70) s. A person habitually silent, taciturn, unable to speak freely, பேசத்திறமில்லாதவன். 2. That which is defective, clumsily done, அழகில்லாதது. ஊமணைச்சட்டி, s. [prov.] A chatty not well baked in the kiln, mis-shappen, &c., and that does not conduct the heat well. ஊமணையன்--ஊமணாமூஞ்சி, s. [prov.] A stupid, sullen, pouting person, one with an ugly or forbidding countenance, அவலட்சணமுகத்தான். ஊமணையுரல், s. A bad-formed mortar, not well-formed in its waist, or centre. 5)

eñcu (p. 73) கிறது, எஞ்சினது, ம், -எஞ்ச, v. n. To diminish, decrease, shorten, lessen, grow small, few, &c., சுருங்க. 2. To be deficient, be defective, to lack, want, குறைய. 3. To remain, be left as a surplus, சேஷமா யிருக்க. 4. To be elliptical--as words, or clauses, சொல்லெஞ்சிநிற்க. (p.) பின்பவ்வெஞ்சியவிருவரும். Afterwards the remaining two persons-எஞ்சணி, s. An ellipsis. எஞ்சிநிற்க, inf. To be wanting or elliptical--as language; to be understood, குறைந்திருக்க. எஞ்சியசொல்லினெய்தக்கூறல், v. noun. [in grammar.] Expressing in a few words, or an author's not mentioning things explicitly, but leaving them to be inferred by the reader--one of the thirty-two உத்தி. எஞ்சல், v. noun. Wanting, deficient, being implied. 27)

oru (p. 83) adj. [changed from ஒன்று, which is the root.] Before vowels and sometimes before consonants, the உ often is dropped and the ஒ lengthened--as ஓரிலை, a leaf. In some connexions and with appropriate emphasis, it means sameness, singularity, peculiarity, specialness, celebrity, &c. ஒருகூடுமுடைந்தவனொன்பதுகூடுமுடைவான். . . . . He who has fabricated one bird's cage may fabricate nine. [prov.] ஒருகண்டசீராக, adv. In one uninterrupted course, monotonously, invariably, constantly. ஒருகண்டசீராகமழைபெய்கிறது. It rains without intermission. ஒருகண்டசீராகக்கூப்பிடுகிறான். He continues calling. ஒருகண்டசீராய்நடக்க. To continue unchanged. ஒருகண்ணுக்குறங்க, inf. To enjoy a short nap. ஒருகண்மூடியொருகண்விழித்தல். Partiality, especially to children. ஒருகாரியம், s. [prov.] One thing, something, a term used in calling or diverting attention, or in stating a reason, &c., in discussion. ஒருகால், s. A foot or one foot, ஒற்றைக்கால். 2. adv. [improp. ஒருக்கால்.] Once, sometime or other, for once, sometimes, ஒருமுறை. ஒருகாலிலேநிற்கிறான். He insists on (going, having, &c.), he is firmly resolved. ஒருகாலும். Never. ஒருகாலுஞ்செய்யான். He never does it, he never will do it, he never can do it. ஒருகாலுமில்லை. Never, at no time, not once. ஒருகாலுமுன்னைக்கைவிடேன். I will never forsake thee. ஒருகாலும்பொய்சொல்லான். He will never tell a lie. ஒருகாலே, adv. In great abundance, greatly. 2. Once, at once, continuously. ஒருகாலேகூட்டமாய்ப்போக. To go together in one continuous company. ஒருகாலே தேடிக் குவித்துக்கொண்டான். He has laid up a vast quantity. ஒருகாலேபேசுகிறானொன்றும்விளங்கவில்லை. He speaks a great deal, but nothing is understood. ஒருகாலேயுறுக்கிக்கொண்டுவருகிறார். He is scolding much. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாங்கொடுக்கிறது. To give all at once. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாஞ்செய்ய. To do all at once, to finish the whole. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாம்வாங்க. To receive altogether. ஒருகாற்கண்டசீராயிருக்க. To be unchangeable. ஒருகாற்செய்தவனிருகாற்செய்வான். He who has done so once, may do it again. இன்னமொருகால். Again, once more. மாற்றானுமொருகாலிதஞ்சொல்லுகிறான். Even one's foe may sometimes speak to one's advantage. ஒருகிடை, v. noun. Being bedridden; confinement by sickness or grief to a recumbent posture, கிடந்தகிடை. ஒருகிடையாகக்கிடத்தல். Lying still, unable or unwilling to rise. ஒருகுடி, s. The relations of one family. ஒருகுடித்தமர், s. Persons of the same family, near relatives--commonly on the paternal side, தாயத்தார். ஒருகூட்டு, s. Close union, combination between two persons, taking another's part, ஒருசேர்க்கை. ஒருகை, s. (fig.) Party, union, conjunction, combination, ஒருவகுப்பு, lit. one hand. அவர்களொருகையாயிருக்கிறார்கள். They are in combination, united in a conspiracy. அவர்களொருகை இவர்களொருகை. They are opposite parties. ஒருகைபரிமாறுதல், v. noun. Dealing out one course at table. ஒருகைபார்த்தல், v. noun. Coping with, striving for the mastery, &c., யார்வெல்வோமென்றுபார்த்தல். 2. Wrestling in combat, &c., once round as rivals. ஒருகைபார்த்துவிடுவோம். Let us fight one round. 2. Let us try for once. ஒருகைவிளையாடுதல், v. noun. Playing a game once round. ஒருகொள்ளை, s. A great deal, a great many. ஒருசந்தி, s. A partial fast during which one meal only is taken in the day, on Sunday in reference to the sun, by persons with diseased eyes; on Monday to Siva to cure diseases generally, &c., ஒருபொழுதுண்டல். ஒருசந்திப்பானையைநாயறியுமா. Can a dog distinguish a sacred vessel? ஒருசந்தியிருக்க, inf. To make but one meal a day. ஒருசாயல், s. Being alike, ஒருவி தம். 2. Singularity, அபூர்வம். ஒருசாயலாயிருக்க, inf. To be of the same likeness. ஒருசாய்வு, v. noun. A leaning, of one party, ஒருபட்சம். 2. [prov.] At once, altogether, ஒருமிக்க. 3. Without intermisson, continuously, இடைவிடாமை. ஒருசார்--ஒருசார்பு, s. One party. ஒருசிறை, s. One side, ஒருபக்கம். 2. adv. Partly, in some respects, to some extent, ஒருசார். ஒருசேர, adv. Altogether, at once, once, ஒருங்கு. (p.) ஒருசொன்னீர்மை, s. A compound word expressing a simple idea--as போய் விட்டான், he is gone. ஒருதரம், s. Once, ஒருமுறை. 2. One and the same kind, sort, &c., ஒருவி தம். ஒருதலை, s. Absoluteness, positiveness, indispensableness, by all means, நிச்சயம். 2. One side of a case or question, favor to one party where two are concerned, ஒருசார்வு. ஒருதலையாகச்சொல்லுதல். Speaking positively. 2. Giving partial judgment. ஒருதலையாய்ச்சேருதல். All holding to one point steadfastly. இவ்விகாரமொருதலையன்று. This grammatical change is not absolute. ஒருதலைக்காமம், s. Love on one side not yet reciprocated, love-intrigue, கைக்கிளை. ஒருதலைதுணிதல், v. noun. [in literature.] An author's choice or decision between two different sentiments found in the writings of others, 32--உத்தியி லொன்று. ஒருதலைநோவு--ஒருதலைவலி, s. Pain on one side of the head. ஒருதலைப்பாக்கு, s. [prov.] An imperfect arecanut, defective on one side. ஒருதலைவழக்கு--ஒருதலைநியாயம், s. Partiality in giving judgment, statements, descriptions, &c., leaning to one side or party, an ex-party statement. ஒருதலைவழக்குநூலினுஞ்செம்மை. The statement made by only one party in a suit is straighter than a line; i. e. one tale is good till another is told. ஒருதன்மை, s. Being of one and the same kind, ஒருவிதம். 2. Incomparableness, ஒப்பற்றதன்மை. 3. Unchangeableness, மாறாமை. ஒருதாரை, s. One edge. 2. adv. [prov.] At once, altogether, without interruption, ஒருமிக்க. ஒருதாரைக்கத்தி, s. Thou only art the Lord. அவனொருத்தன்வந்தான். He only is come. 2. That fellow is come. ஒருநெல்லுப்பெருவெள்ளை, s. [prov.] A kind of rice, ஓர்வகைநெல். ஒருநேரம், s. An unseasonable time. இவனிராத்திரியொருநேரத்தில்என்வீட்டுக்குவந் தான். He came last night to my house at an unseasonable hour. ஒருபடி, adv. Tolerably, ordinarily, ஒருவாறு. 2. In some degree, to some extent, ஒருவிதம். ஒருபடிசெய்துமுடித்தார்கள். They have done it, finished it, &c. with great labor. 2. They have done it defectively, exceptionably, not thoroughly. ஒருபடித்தாய். So and so, tolerably. ஒருபடியாக, inf. [used as an adverb.] In some sense, manner, degree, partly. 2. Tolerably, passably, in some way or other. 3. With great pains, with difficulty--as in escaping, &c. ஒருபவம், s. [as ஒருபிறப்பு.] One birth. ஒருபார்வை, s. Your countenance appears strange. அவனொருபிரகாரமானவன். He is a singular kind of man. ஒருபுடை, s. In some respects, partly, to some extent. ஒருபுடைசெல்லல்--ஒருபுடைசே றல், v. noun. Going on one side, ஒருபக்க மாய்ப்போதல். ஒருபுடையொப்புமை, v. noun. Having an imperfect analogy. ஒருபொருட்டீவகம், [in rhetoric.] An ellipsis by which one word qualifies, or is qualified by a succession of dependent words, ஓரலங்காரம். ஒருபொருட்பன்மொழி, s. (திவா.) ஒருமனப்பட, inf. To be united, unanimous, harmonious, ஏகமனமாக. 2. To apply the mind intensely, to be deeply engaged in the pursuit of an object, மனதையொன்றிலேசெலுத்த. 3. To have the senses under restraint--as in fasting, &c., ஐம்புலனடக்க. ஒருமனப்பாடு, v. noun. Unanimity, concord, இணக்கம். 2. Close or undivided application to an object, மனதை யொன்றிற்செலுத்துகை. 2. Mental restraint. ஒருமாதிரி, s. Being of one kind, ஒருவிதம். 2. Singularity, peculiarity. ஒருமுகம், s. In one direction. 2. Union, harmony. எல்லாருமொருமுகமாயிருந்தார்கள். They were all unanimous in their sentiments. குரங்கெல்லாமொருமுகம். All monkies side together; i. e. persons of the same creed or family form a party. ஒருமுகமாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak unanimously. ஒருமுகமாய்ப்போக, inf. To proceed in one direction. ஒருமுறை, s. One form, method. 2. One time, once. ஒருலாகை--ஒருவகை--ஒருவிதம், s. One kind. ஒருவகையாயிருக்கிறான். He is dispirited, dejected. 2. He is indisposed, out of health. ஒருவகையாய்ப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks in a peculiar way, unseemly or unfriendly, out of the way. ஒருவிதமாயிருக்க, inf. To be indifferent. ஒருவந்தம், s. Intentness of mind on an object, inclination, concentration of the powers of the soul, ஒற்றுமை. 2. A place of retirement or seclusion, தனித் திருக்குமிடம். 3. Connection, unity, relation, combination, சம்பந்தம். ஊக்கமொருவந்தங்கைத்துடையார். They who are intensely energetic. (குறள்.) ஒருவயிற்போலியுவமை, s. [in rhetoric.] உவமையணியிலொன்று. ஒருவழிப்படுதல், v. noun. Having the mind constantly directed to one point, மனமொருநெறிப்படல். 2. Being unanimous, united in the same object or pursuit, especially in divine things, ஒன் றுபடல். ஒருவன், s. One person, one man, ஒருத்தன். ஒருவர்க்காகவொருவர். One for, or in behalf of another. ஒருவர்க்கொருவர். One with another. ஒருவிசை, s. One time, once. ஒருவியாழவட்டம், s. A revolution of Jupiter round the sun; i. e. twelve years. ஒருவினைச்சிலேஷை, [in rhetoric.] A figure in which the verb conveys two different meanings, சிலேஷையணியிலொன் று--as அம்பொற்பணைமுகத்துத் திண்கோட்டணி நாகம்--வம்புற்றவோடைமலர்ந்திலங்க, உம்பர்-நவம்புரியுமாநதியுநாண்மதியுநண்ணத்--தவம்புரி வார்க்கின்பந்தரும். ஒருவேலைக்கிருவேலை, s. Double work, taking double trouble with a thing. ஒருவேளை, adv. Once, ஒருமுறை. 2. Sometimes, ஒருசமயம். 3. Perhaps. ஒரே, adj. Only. ஒரேகுமாரன்--ஒரேயொருபிள்ளை, s. An only son, an only child. ஒரோவொன்று, s. One, one in multiplication, one by one, one of each individually. ஒவ்வொரு, adj. Each. ஒவ்வொருகாரியம், s. One thing at a time. ஒவ்வொருமாதம், s. ōṭṭai (p. 84) s. A crack, a hole in a vessel, a flaw, a leak, a cracked or defective vessel, bell, tile, shell, &c., a fissure, உடையல். ஓட்டைத்தோணி, s. A crazy, broken dhony. ஓட்டைப்பானை, s. A cracked vessel. ஓட்டைமணி, s. A cracked bell. ஓட்டையுடையல், s. Cracked and broken things. ஓட்டைவாயன், s. A babbler, one who keeps no secret, வெள்ளைவாயன். 83)

kṭvtu (p. 87) . A defective verb used in the optative form, expressing, 1st. The duty of doing a thing; 2d. Desire--as போகக்கடவாய், O! that thou wouldst go; 3d. Sometimes ஆக is affixed to it, and then it serves to denote the present, imperfect and future optative. செய்யக்கடவராக. May he do so. 30)

kuruṭu (p. 126) s. Blindness, பார்வையில்லா மை. 2. Dimness (in gems); opacity, obscurity, காந்தியில்லாமை. 3. The worst side of a thing, cloth, &c., the unpolished, undressed, unfinished side, குருட்டுப்பக்கம். 4. A blind or ignorant fellow (in contempt), புத்தியீனன். குருட்டுநாட்டுக்கொள்ளி. A fire-brand in a country of blind people; i. e. a light among the illiterate. குருட்டுப்பூனைவிட்டத்திற்பாய்ந்தாற்போல. As a blind cat attempted to jump at the beam. குருட்டுமாட்டைத்தெய்வங்காக்கிறது--மேய்க்கிறது. The deity tends the blind cow. கோல்எடுத்தபிள்ளைகுருட்டுப்பிள்ளை. That child playing with the sticks is a blind child; i. e. is likely to hurt itself. குருடன், s. A blind person. 2. A name of Venus; lit. the squint-eyed, சுக்கிரன். (சது.) 3. Dhrutarashtra--as congenitally blind, திருதராட்டிரன். குருடன்பெண்டிரைஅடித்தாற்போல. Like the blind man striking his wife; i. e. attempting, but hitting another object. குருடாக்க, inf. To blind; to stupefy. குருடி, s. A blind female, கண்ணில் லாள். குருட்டுக்கண், s. Blind eye. 2. Blindness of the sight. பிறவிக்குருடன், s. A person born blind. மனக்குருடு, s. Mental blindness; ignorance, illusion. குருட்டாட்டம்--குருட்டுத்தனம், s.. Blindness; absence of mind, infatuation. குருட்டாட்டமாடுகிறான். He plays blindman's buff. குருட்டாட்டமாய்ப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks foolishly, without understanding. குருட்டுத்தீர்ப்பு, s. Foolish judgment; judgment passed by an ignorant man. குருட்டுநியாயம், s. Wrong reasoning; wrong judgment. குருட்டுப்பத்தி, s. Superstition, blind zeal, bigotry. குருட்டுமுத்து, s. A dim, defective pearl. குருட்டுக்கல்லு, s. A turbid, dim gem. குருட்டுச்சாயம், s. Faint colors, in dying, மங்கற்சாயம். குருட்டுப்பக்கம், s. [prov.] Blind side, the wrong side of a printed cloth, &c. குருட்டுமைப்பட--குருட்டுமையாக, inf. To be dim or obscure--as the writing on olas, by wiping the coloring off before it is dry. 2. To become obscure--as writing to an aged person. குருடுதடவ, inf. To grope, to search and be unable to find, as if blind (said in reproach). குருட்டடி, s. Success, attained at random; a blind hit. குருட்டடியாய்ச்சொல்லிப்போட்டான். He spoke rightly at random. குருட்டடியடிக்க, inf. To speak at random, yet, commonly, to the point. குருட்டுவாக்கு, s. Acting at random --as a blind man; rashness, temerity, thoughtlessness; random success, a fortuitous hit, &c. குருட்டெழுத்து, s. Dimness of writing, &c., to an aged person. குருட்டுக்கொக்கு, s. A kind of stork; a bird of passage, that allows persons to come very near. குருட்டுவவ்வால், s. The common bat. குருட்டுப்பனங்காய், s. [prov.] A palmyra fruit injured on the tree. குருட்டீ, s. Gad-fly. குருட்டுநாள், s. [in astrol.] A dark, dismal asterism, or nacshatra, in certain positions from the moon or the sun; opposed to திருட்டிநாள். 6)

kuṟai (p. 132) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To diminish, decrease, lessen, abate, wane, shorten, dwindle, decline, சிறுக. 2. To be reduced in numbers, value, circumstances; to be lowered in rank, estimation, கெட. 3. To be wanting, to prove insufficient, to lack, to be short in weight, measure, number, &c., to be scanty, எஞ்ச. 4. To be imperfect, incomplete, unfinished, defective, deficient, ஈனமாக. 5. [in gram.] To be cut off, dropped, omitted, suppressed, &c., சொற்குறைந்துவர. 6. To be scarce, dear, difficult of attainment, அருமையாயிருக்க. குறைய, inf. To be insufficient, to be wanting. ஏறக்குறைய, [adverbially.] Nearly, almost, about. நடைகுறைந்துபோயிற்று. He now cannot walk much. 2. His influence is reduced. 3. The speed is reduced--as of horses, cattle, &c. குறைந்தவிலை, s. A dear bargain; a high price. 2. A reduced price, a low price. குறைந்தமரக்கால், s. A scant measure. வயிறுகுறைய, inf. To be unsatisfied --as hunger. குறைச்சல், v. noun. [vul. for. குறைதல்.] Defficiency, dearness, poverty, displeasure, complaint, &c. குறைச்சலல்ல. It is not dear. குறைச்சலாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To be dear, scarce, &c. குறைச்சலாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak ill of one. செய்கைக்குறைச்சல், s. Misbehavior, misconduct. மனக்குறைச்சல், s. Dissatisfaction, displeasure; grievance. குறைவு, v. noun. Lack, deficiency, dearness, want, scarcity. 2. Indigency, necessity, poverty, தரித்திரம். குறைவறுக்க, inf. To make up a deficiency, to supply wants, to meet exigencies, &c. குறைவானது.
