aṟu (p. 33) கிறது, ந்தது, ம், அற, v. n. To be parted, detached, separated; to break as a rope, அறுபட. 2. To cease, become extinct, perish, end, vanish, அழிய. 3. To be decided, ended, தீர. (c.) அற, inf. [used adverbially.] With a verb it expresses; 1. Wholly, entirely, quite, முழுதும். 2. Intensely, excessively, மிகவும். 3. Negation, being without, as குற்றமற, without fault. அறச்செட்டுமுழுநஷ்டம். Selling things too dearly will cause entire loss; i. e. avarice causes loss. அறப்படித்தான். He has learnt all perfectly. எழுத்தறவாசி. Read with distinct articulation. அறக்கட்ட, inf. To tie tightly, இறுகக்கட்ட. 2. To monopolize, ஒருமிக்கக் கொள்ள. அறக்காய, inf. To be over-dried, over-boiled, over-heated. அறக்கூட்ட, inf. To sweep clean or thoroughly. அறக்கூர்மை, s. Excessive sharpness as of a writing style. அறச்சிவப்பு, s. Deep red, extremely red. அறச்சிறியது, appel. n. The smallest. அறப்பாடல், v. noun. [commonly, அறம்பாடல்.] Composing poetry containing imprecations or spells.--Note. Verses of this kind are supposed sometimes to be made without design, and thus to injure the maker and others. அறப்பார்க்க, inf. To examine thoroughly, sift. 2. To take measures to defeat, ruin or injure one by defamation. அறமிகுந்தால், v. part. At most, at the utmost, by any means, with the greatest effort. அறமிகுந்துவந்தாலும்வரட்டும். If it must come (if no effort will avert it) let it come. அறவிளக்க, inf. To polish thoroughly. அறவூத--அறவைக்க, inf. To refine metals by fire, புடமிட. அறாவிலை, s. An exorbitant price. அறுகுறை, s. A headless body, கவந்தம். அறுந்தருணம், s. Emergency, exigency. அறுந்தொகை, s. A sum, number, &c. in dividing, in which there is no remainder. அறுவாய், s. The parting made in sawing a piece of timber. 2. The opening of a cut or wound. 3. A junction, a conjunction of two periods of time, extremity, end. 4. Deficiency, what is wanted to complete a whole; [ex அறு, parted, et வாய், opening.] அறுவாய்நிறைந்தவயிர்மதி. The bright moon whose waning is restored. அற்றறுதி, s. A complete end, entire ruin. அற்றறுதிபற்றறுதியாய்விட்டது. All communion is withdrawn. அற்றான், s. A poor man, தரித் திரன், 2. A sage, முனிவன். அற்றுப்போக, inf. To be lost, to cease to be. தடையற, inf. [used adverbially.] Without impediment. அறவு, v. noun. Cessation, ceasing, extinction. 2. Parting, separation, breach. அறவுளி, s. Incantations performed over a sick person in order to restore him. 2. Cessation, end, முடிவு. அறுதல், v. noun. Finishing, liquidating a debt. 2. s. A broken thread, string, rope, bandage, &c. அறுந்திருப்பது. 3. A mean, despicable or faulty person, உதவாதவன் அந்த அறுதலையிங்கேவரவிடலாகாது, You must not allow that vagabond to be here. தாம்புமறுதல் தோண்டியும்பொத்தல். A broken rope and a leaky water-pot. அறுதலி, s. A widow, கைம்பெ ண்; [ex அறுதல், being plucked off (the marriage jewel), et இ, fem. termination; or அறு, torn off, et தலி, contracted from தாலி, the badge of marriage.] அறுதலிமகனுக்கங்கமெல்லாஞ்சேஷ்டை. The son of a widow is mischievous throughout his whole frame. அறுதி, v. noun. End, close, termination, முடிவு. 2. Decision, decisiveness, determination--as a decisive sale, entire renunciation of a title to landed property, தீர்ப்பு. 3. s. The purchaser's possession or title to property purchased, விற்கிரயச்சீட்டு. 4. Absence, non-existence, இல்லாமை. 5. Death, சாவு. அறுதியாய்ப்போயிற்று. It is settled, completed, ended. அறுதியிட்டுச்சொன்னான். He spoke decisively. நமக்குக்கிடைத்தது நமக்கறுதி. Thus much is realized and we shall not have to part with it. அந்தப்பழக்கத்தையறுதியாய்விட்டுவிட்டேன். I have relinquished that custom entirely. அறுதிக்கரை, s. The proper and just division or distribution of land. அறுதிச்சாதனம்--அறுதியுறுதி, s. A deed of transfer, அறுதிச்சீட்டு. அறுதிச்சொல், s. A decisive word or sentence. அறுதிப்பங்கு, s. What is given in full of all demands, a final allotment. அறுதிப்பாடு, s. Being accomplished, finished, decided. அறுதியிட, inf. To determine, to point a day, &c. 55)

iyṟṟu (p. 48) கிறேன், இயற்றினேன், வே ன், இயற்ற, v. n. To do , make, effect, perform, execute, bring about, cause to take place, discharge a duty or obligation, exercise or use an art, செய்ய. 2. To transact, manage affairs, superintend, cause or excite one to do a thing, நடத்த. 3. To destine, appoint, assign, விதிக்க. (p.) இயற்றலுமீட்டலுங்காத்தலும். Devising means to increase the finances, collecting and keeping them. எல்லாத்தவமுமியற்றி. Performing every species of austerity. ஐந்துவேள்ளியுமியற்றி. ē (p. 76) . One of the seven long vowels, நெட்டுயிரிலொன்று. 2. An arrow, அம்பு. 3. A particle of emphasis, &c., இடைச்சொல். In நன்னூல், it is said to have six different uses: 1. பிரிநிலை, a distinguishing particle-as அவனேசொன்னான், it was he who said it. In some cases, it would be used for self or selves in the plural where the connection demanded it--as he himself said it. 2. வினா, interrogative: அவனேகொண் டான், was it he that bought it? 3. எண், enumeration or copulative--as சாத்தனே கொற்றனே இருவரும்வந்தார், Sattan and Kottan both came; கடலே, கரையே, மரமே, மலரே, வளையே, இவ்வைந்து, the sea, the land, the tree, the flower, the conch, these five. 4. ஈற்றசை or அசைநிலை, a terminate expletive --as மல்லலோங்கெழில்யானைமருமம்பாய்ந்தொளித்த தே, (the weapon) lodged itself in the breast of the beautiful and powerful elephant. 5. தேற்றம், certainty, confidence, appeal, emphasis--as இதுள்ளதே, this is really true; முயற்குக்கோடில்லையே, the hare has no horns. 6. இசைநிறை, a poetic expletive for completing the metre--as ஏஏ இவ ளொருத்திபேடி, she is a hermaphrodite; பேடியோவென்றாரே, he said, is she an hermaphrodite? To these the commentator adds 7. எதிர்மறை, negative as implied by the tones and inflections of the speaker rather than expressed by the particle--as அவன்வந்தானே, he came, did he? implying he did not come. Another may also be given. 8. இகழ்ச்சி, an interjection of contempt--as எஏ--வைத்தியகாரா, oh, oh, (or fie, fie), thou stupid fellow. (p.) 5) *

kṭṉ (p. 87) s. Debt, loan of money or of goods on trust, இருணம். 2. Tribute, tax, குடியிறை. 3. Duty, obligation, what is proper to be done or what one is bound to do, that which is devolved on one, accountability, responsibility, கடமை. 4. Measurement, அளவு. 5. A dry measure--the மரக்கால். கடனுக்குப்பாதகனாய்ப்போனவன். One who is deeply in debt. காலைக்கடன்கழித்தல். Performing the morning devotional exercises. அதுன்மேல்விழுந்தகடன். It is your duty. பகைவரைமுதலாய்ப்பரிவதுகடன். Even enemies ought to be loved. யான்செய்யவேண்டியகடன். The duty which I ought to discharge. கடனடைக்க--கடனிறுக்க--கட ன்றீர்க்க, inf. To clear off a debt. 2. To perform an obligation, duty, &c., in general. புத்திரன்றன்கடன்றீர்த்துப்போட்டான். The child has done his duty--spoken in commendation, or with reference to the performance of some exploit, &c. கடனாக, inf. [used adverbially.] As a loan, in loan. கடனாளி, s. One who is obliged to do a thing. 2. A debtor. கடன்கட்டு--கடன்வழி, s. Doing a thing for form's sake, not cordially. கடன்கட்டாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak roughly. கடன்கழிக்க, inf. To perform a duty, to return a kindness, &c., கடமை செய்ய. 2. To perform the last funeral rites for a deceased person, either by fire or water, பிதிர்கருமஞ்செய்ய. 3. To perform private devotions as the repetitions of the மந்திரம், &c., நித்தியகருமஞ்செய்ய. 4. To do a service for one out of compliment, or for form's sake, மனமின்றிச்செய்ய. கடன்காரன், s. A debtor, கடன் பட்டவன். 2. sometimes a creditor, கடன் கொடுத்தவன். கடன்கேட்க, inf. To demand a debt. 2. To ask for a loan of money. கடன்கொடுத்தவன், s. A creditor, a loaner. கடன்சீட்டு--கடன்பத்திரம்--க டன்முறி, (s.) A bond of debt. கடன்செய்ய, inf. To do one's duty, கடமைசெய்ய. 2. To perform funeral rites, பிதிர்கருமஞ்செய்ய. கடன்திருநாள், s. A holy festival observed in fulfilment of a vow. (Besch.) கடன்பட, inf. To contract debt, be indebted, கடனுக்குள்ளாக. கடன்பற்ற, inf. To recover payment of a debt, கடனறவிட. கடன்வாங்க, inf. To borrow money, contract a debt. வாங்கினகடனைக்கொடாதவல்லாளகண்டன். . . . One who is too unyielding to pay off his debts. செய்கடன், s. A duty. 35)

kuntu (p. 121) கிறேன், குந்தினேன், வேன், குந்த, v. n. To sit; to sit on the legs, to squat, குந்தியிருக்க. 2. To stand on the end of the toe, காற்படங்குந்த. குந்துகாலிலேநிற்க, inf. To stand on tip-toe. 2. To wait impatiently--as anxious to go. 3. To tarry but a moment--as one in haste. சுவர்குந்துகாலிலேநிற்கிறது. The wall inclines, ready to fall. குந்தினபடியிருக்கிறான். He is still sitting; i. e. still resolved on obtaining his demand. குந்துதிண்ணை, s. A step used as a seat, at the front margin of the verandah, or ends. See ஒட்டுத்திண்ணை. குந்்து, v. noun. kuṟumuṭṭu (p. 132) s. [local.] Gross insolence, impertinence, மதிப்பின்மை. 2. Great urgency--as when business has been put off to the last moment, கெடுஅவசரம். 3. Being straitened--as in a narrow room, &c., ஒடுக் கம். 4. Pressing or holding one to a thing, using coercion, பலாத்காரமாய்க்கேட்கை. 5. A sudden encounter--as at a corner, &c., சடு தியிலெதிர்ப்படுகை; [ex குறுமை, et முட்டு.] குறுமுட்டன், s. A person daringly insolent; a brute, a savage. குறுமுட்டாய்ப்பிடிக்க, inf. mṇm (p. 341) s. Nuptials, marriage, wedding, wedlock, கலியாணம். (சது.) 2. [fig.] Better circumstances, நலம். அஷ்டமணம். Eight kinds of marriage: 1. பிரமம், marriage of a virgin to a bachelor; 2. பிரசாபத்தியம், marriage by mutual consent of the relations; the girl having been solicited by the friends of the bridegroom; 3. ஆரிடம், the gift of a girl in marriage; her relations receiving as a present one or two cows, or bullocks; or according to some, the girl is placed between a cow and a bullock with gilded horns and hoofs, and the ceremony is comfirmed by the pouring of water; 4. தெய்வம், marriage of a girl bestowed by a deity in recompense for a sacrifice offered by her father; or, as some say, marriage in the presence of a sacrifice.--Note. These four are performed before the god of fire, as a witness; 5. காந்தருவம், marriage by the mutual consent of the individuals themselves; without consulting friends, or having a marriage ceremony; 6. ஆசுரம், marriage in which the bridegroom furnishes the bride with jewels, and pays her friends the sum which they demand for her.--Note. Some authorities mention certain heroic or athletic explcits as the price to be paid. 7. இராக்கதம், marriage in which the girl is taken by force, without her own consent or that of her friends; 8. பைசாசம், marriage in which a girl is forced when asleep, or in a state of insensibility. மணமும்பிணமும் போகிறவீதியிலிருந்துபேசுகி றேன். A marriage-contract, a written agreement between the parties marrying; or their parents, on giving their children in marriage. 2. See தசப்பொருத்தம். மணமகன், s. A bridegroom, மணவா ளன். 2. (சது.) A husband, புருஷன். மணமகள், s. A bride, மணவாளி. 2. A wife, மனைவி. மணம்புரிய, inf. To marry. மணவணி, s. Wedding ornaments or decorations; [ex அணி.] (p.) மணவறை, s.
