kvi (p. 98) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To cover, over-spread, bent in or over, overshadow--as branches of trees, the heavens, clouds, &c.; to canopy, over-spread, bend over, வளைய. 2. To be eager, intent, earnest; to have the mind bent upon a thing, விரும்ப. (p.) மேகங்கள்மலைச்சிகரத்தைக்கவிந்துகொண்டன. The clouds have covered the mountain top. அவர்மனங்கவிந்திருக்கின்றது. The planets in the Hindu system are nine, called நவக் கிரகம், viz.: 1. ஆதித்தன் or ஞாயிறு, the sun. 2. சோமன் or திங்கள், the Moon. 3. அங்காரகன் or செவ்வாய், Mars. 4. புதன், Mercury. 5. பிரகற்பதி--பிரகஸ்பதி or வியாழன், Jupiter. 6. சுக்கிரன் or வெள்ளி, Venus. 7. சனி, Saturn. 8. இராகு, Caput draconis. 9. கேது, Cauda draconis. The last two are considered visible in eclipses of the sun and moon, இராகு being, black, and கேது red. (See under கோள்.) 3. To perform a ceremony to dispel disease, &c., supposed to be induced by a malignant planet, in which clay images, made for the occasion representing the planets to be appeased, are worshipped, offerings of fruits, &c., being presented, and then all cast out in a cross road, கிரகசாந்திசெய்ய. கிரகசாத்திரம், s. Science of the planets. கிரகசாந்தி, s. A ceremony to counteract or mitigate the malignant effects of planets on one's person or affairs, கிரகக் கழிப்பு. கிரகசாந்திபண்ண, inf. Under, below, beneath. கீழாயிருக்க, inf. To be below, to be mean, to be inferior. கீழாலவத்தை, s. 'Descending states of the soul.' State and degree of consciousness, commencing with objective sensations and descending to subjective feeling and contemplation, the mind receding farther and farther from objective impressions and associations. Hindu physiologists fancy that the mind descends from its seat in the forehead to its other seats, the neck, breast, umbilicus and terminus rectum. (தத்துவக். சிவ. சி.) கீழிருக்க, inf. To lie under, to be under one's dominion or control. கீழாறு, s. A river under ground, பூமி யினுள்ளோடுமாறு. 2. A river in the Congu country, கொங்குதேசத்தாறு. கீழாறுகொண்டுபோயிற்று. The under ground river has carried it away--said of things lost without knowing how. கீழுக்குப்போக, inf. To be diminishes, to be reduced. அவன்புத்தியுங்கல்வியும்வரவரக்கீழுக்குப்போகி றது. His understanding and knowledge are more and more diminishing. கீழோங்கி, s. [prov.] An inferior class or fishermen--as distinguished from மே லோங்கி, a higher rank. கீழ்நோக்க, inf. To look downward, to tend downward, கீழ்ப்பார்க்க. 2. To be sensual, grovelling, to tend toward secularities, இழிவானதைவிரும்ப. 3. To be on the decline--as to wealth, &c.; to go to ruin, to come to naught, தாழ்வடைய. கீழ்நோக்கித்திட்ட--கீழ்நோக்கியேச inf. To use obscene language, to assail with very indecent speech. கீழ்நோக்கு--கீழ்நோக்கம் v. noun. Looking downward, downward tendency, கீழ்ப்பார்வை. 2. Low or grovelling pursuits, a base inclination; underhand, clandestine purpose. கீழ்மேலாக, adv. Upside down. கீழ்ப்பட, inf. To be subdued, to yield, to be submissive, to become inferior, கீழ்ப்படிய. 2. To be subject, to be subordinate, to submit to, அடங்க. 3. To be degraded, mean, base, இழிவுபட. கீழ்ப்படிய--கீழ்ப்பணிய inf. To submit, to yield, to obey. கீழ்ப்படியாத்தனம்--கீழ்ப்படியாமை, s. Disobedience, insubordination. கீழ்ப்படிவு, v. noun. Submission, obedience, subordination, subjection, கீழ்ப்ப ணிவு. 2. Docility, tractableness, அமைவு. கீழ்ப்படுத்த--கீழ்ப்படியப்பண்ண, inf. To subdue, to subject, to subordinate, to subjugate, to quell, அடக்க. 2. To lower, to bring down, to reduce, தாழ்வுபடு த்த. 3. To degrade, ஈனப்படுத்த. கீழ்நோக்கினநட்சத்திரம், s. [in astro.] A lunar mansion looking downward-opposed to மேனோக்கினநட்சத்திரம். They are twelve in number. (உள்ளமு.) கீழ்நோக்கினராசி, s. [in astrol.] A zodiacal sign which looks downward.-Note. May you go to the grave; i. e. may you be ruined, a curse. குழிக்குத்து, s. [prov.] A hole, made for plants in transplanting. குழிக்குத்துக்கோல், s. A short stick, used in making the குழிக்குத்து. குழிபறிக்க--குழிதோண்ட, inf. To make a hole or a pit. குழிதிறக்க, inf. [local.] To open the sacred pit, with appropriate ceremonies, preparatory to the Mohurrum feast. குழிமூட, inf. To fill up the sacred pit. See குழிதிறக்க. குழியிற்புதைக்க, inf. To bury; to conceal. 2. To bury the dead, to entomb. குழிவிழ, inf. To form--as dimples or hollows in the cheeks, ulcers, &c. 2. To form, to be worn, &c.--as hollows in floors, or other surfaces. குழியில்விழ, inf. To fall into evil, vice, &c; lit. into the pit. குழியடிக்க, inf. To make holes in stones--as a stone-cutter. குழிக்கிட்டி, s. [local.] A kind of கிட் டிபுள்ளு game among boys, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. குழிச்சட்டி, s. A kind of earthen pan with hollow cavities for frying cakes. குழிப்புண், s. An ulcer in which holes are formed. குழியச்சு, s. Moulds for making gold beads. குழியம்மி, s. A hollow grind-stone. See under அம்மி. குழித்தைலம், s. Pit-oil; i. e. oil extracted in a pit. குழிநரி, s. A fox, ஓர்நரி. குழிமுயல், s. A rabbit, a coney, ஓர் முயல். குழிப்பிள்ளை, s. A cocoanut, planted deep--not to be . எத்தனைகுழி. How many square feet, or how many குழி? குழிக்கணக்கு, s. Square measure, reckoning by square feet, &c. குழிமாற, inf. [in arith.] To square; also, to multiply a number into another, குழிபெருக்க. குழிமாற்று, v. noun. [in arith.] Table of squares; also, of multiplication, குழிப் பெருக்கம். பெருங்குழி, s. [in arith.] The squaring, or multiplication of integral numbers. சிறுகுழி, s.
