iẕ (p. 55) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To lose, forfeit, to be bereaved of, to suffer loss, இழந்துபோக. இழப்பு, v. noun. Loss, privation, forfeiture, இழந்துவிடுகை. இழப்புணி, s. One who has lost a child, a husband, property, &c. இழவு, v. noun. Loss, deprivation, forfeiture, bereavement, நஷ்டம். 2. Death, மரணம். அந்தவீட்டிலேயிழவுபட்டபாடாயிருக்கிறது...... There is affliction in that house, as if a death had occurred there. இழவுகாத்தல், v. noun. [vul.] Keeping close to the house--as mourners till after the eighth day of the funeral ceremony. இழவுகாரன்--இழவுக்குரியவன், s. The chief mourner at the funeral. இழவுகொடுக்க--இழவுக்கடிக்க, inf. To mourn at a funeral, to condole with, to bewail the dead--as women do, beating their breasts, &c. அப்படிச்செய்துபோட்டு அவனோடே இழவு கொடுக்கிறதார்? Who will expose himself to be troubled by him, for doing so? இழவுகொண்டாடுதல், v. noun. Mourning for the dead, accompained by external gestures, lamentations, beating the breast, &c., either at the funeral, or at stated periods afterwards. இழவுக்குப்போக, inf. To go to condole with. இழவுசொல்ல, inf. To invite to, or notify concerning a funeral. இழவுவிழுதல், v. noun. Dying-a word used in imprecations, &c. அவனுக்கிழவுவிழ. May death fall upon him. இழவுவினவ, inf. To condole with mourners, inquiring after the dead, embracing, &c. இழவுவீடு, s. A house where a death has taken place. இழவோலை, s. A funeral notice or invitation, a funeral letter or ola, சாவோலை. 33)

oṟu (p. 84) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To reduce, suppress, subject, restrain the senses, desires, &c., to mortify the body, curb the appetites, to pinch, stint or deny one's self, to suppress the passions, அடக்க. 2. To afflict, distress, cause pain to one's self or others, அலைக்க. 3. To punish, chastise, தண்டிக்க. (கு. 964.) 4. To rebuke, reprove, கடிந்துகொள்ள. 5. To dislike, to be disgusted with, வெறுக்க. (p.) 6. v. n. To become scarce and dear, to fail or be scanty--as crops, rain, &c., to be sparing, குறைய. கொலையிற்கொடியாரைவேந்தொறுத்தல். Punishing the guilty by death--the prerogative of a prince. (குறள்.) அகமொறுக்கும். Corn will be scarce. அவனொருத்தருக்குமொறுக்கிறதில்லை. He submits to no one's reproof; he does not brook censure. கையொறாமற்கொடுக்கிறான். He gives liberally. அன்னத்தையொறு. Abstain from taking food. சற்றும்வாயொறுக்கிறானில்லை. He does not at all restrain himself (in speaking). 2. He does not conform to the prescribed diet. உடம்பினையொறுத்துநோற்பார். Those who mortify their bodies and do penance. (ஸ்காந்.) கொடுஞ்சொற்றாயரொறுப்பவும். When the mother rebukes with sharp language-ஒறுத்துக்கொண்டிருக்க, inf. To be afflicted. விலையொறுக்க, inf. [prov.] To become dear. மழையொறுத்தகாலம், s. A drought. வயிற்றையொறுக்க, inf. To pinch one's self. ஒறுப்பு, v. noun. Scarcity, dearness, ஒறுக்கை. 2. Restraint of the passions, self-mortification, self-denial, உட ல்வருத்துகை. 3. Chastisement, punishment, correction, தண்டிப்பு. 4. Rebuke, reproof, கடிவு. 5. Dislike, disgust, வெறு ப்பு. 6. krumm (p. 96) s. Act, action, moral actions involving future retribution, &c., கிரியை. 2. Actions of a previous birth, good or evil, entailed on the soul and resulting in the enjoyments and sufferings of the present or a future state, fate, destiny, முன்வினை. 3. Business, profession, occupation, attempt, essay, enterprise, தொழில். 4. Religious rites, duties, &c., stated, periodical, or otherwise, according to the rules of the shasters; moral duty, specific action, duty, obligation imposed by peculiarities of tribe or occupation, &c., வைதீகக்கிரியை. 5. Natural activity, self-moving energy, &c., இயற்கைச்சொல். 6. Religious actions --as connected with the hope of future recompense and as opposed to speculative religion--as explained in the Agamas, ஆகாயமிருகம். 7. [in grammar.] The object of actions, செயப்படுபொருள். 8. Magical enchantment of eight kinds, அஷ்டகருமம். (1.) வசியம். getting a person into one's own power, influence, &c. (2.) மோகனம், libidinous fascinations. (3.) தம்பனம், stopping, checking, restraining the powers of fire, the flowing of water, the ferocity of wild beasts, &c., making a spirit or person stand immovable in a place and depriving him on the power of speech, &c. (4.) உச்சா டனம், setting demons against one to ruin him by magical incantations, or dislodging them from persons or places. (5.) ஆகருட ணம், summoning or invoking a spirit or absent person visibly into one's presence. (6.) வித்துவேடணம், excitment to hatred. (7.) பேதனம், causing separation, dissension, discord. Vice, atrocity, தீவினை. Wils. p. 197. KARMAJA. கருமசாங்கரியம், s. Community of wives, promiscuous or indiscriminate cohabitation, ஐக்கம். கருமஞானம், s. Knowledge and skill religious exercise and ceremonies. கருமத்தலைவர், s. Royal fortunetellers, astrologers, conjurers, foretellers of future events, வருங்காரியஞ்சொல்வோர். கருமத்தலைவன், s. a superntendent. 2. A minister, அரசர்க்குத்துணைவன். கருமத்துரோகம், s. Treachery, treason, villainy துரோகஞ்செய்யல். கருமநிவிர்த்தி, s. Ceremonies performed to expiate the evil deeds of former births in times of disease, &c. கருமபந்தம்--கருமபந்தனம், s. The tie or vinculum, கருமபாசம், Which connects the actions of a former birth with their fruits in after transmigrations. Wils. p. 198. KARMMABANTHANA. கருமபாகை, s. One of the three parts of the Vedas, relating to daily ceremonial rites, வேதத்தின்பொருட்பாகுபாட் டிலொன்று. See ஞானபாகை, and அருத்தபாகை. கருமபூமி, s. The part of the earth deemed most sacred in which Hinduism prevails and religious rites are regularly performed, வினைசெய்தற்குரியபூமி. Wils. p. 198. KARMMAB'HUMI. 2. A place of cremation, சுடுகாடு. கருமபூமிக்குரிமை, s. Prescribed funeral rites for deceased ancestors, அந்தியேட்டிமுதலிய சடங்கு. கருமாதிகாரன், s. A ruler, a governor, கருமத்தலைவன். கருமாதிசெய்ய, inf. To perform funeral rites. கருமாத்துமா, s. A heinous sinner, one who has accumulated evil deeds either in a previous birth or the present. Wils. p. 199. KARMMATMAN. கருமாந்தம்--கருமாந்தரம்--கருமாந் தியம், s. vīṇ (p. 398) adj. and s. Vain, useless, unemployed, unprofitable. அதொருவீண்காரியம். It is a vain thing. அதுவீணாய்போயிற்று. It became useless அவன்வீணாய்த்திரிகிறான். He is unemployed. வீணலப்பு, v. noun. Talking to no purpose. வீணன், s. An idle, useless person. வீணாய்--விணுக்கு--வீணே, adv. Vainly. வீணாரவீணன், s.
