aṉṟu (p. 34) s. That day, then, any time but the present, அந்நாள். 2. (The third person masc. sing. of the defective verb, அல்.) It is not (that, but something else), அல்லது. 3. An expletive, அசைச் சொல்--as, ஆயதன்றே; for ஆயது, it happened. 4. [in poetry.] அன்று, is used for அன்றி--as, நாளன்றுபோகி, for நாளன்றிப்போகி. அன்றன்று. Daily, every day.-Note. In the high dialect, words which imply time and end in று or டு, are made adjectives by changing the preceding ன், or ண், into ற், or ட், and உ, into ஐ--as அன்று, is made அற்றை, இன்றுஇற்றை; also ஆண்டு-ஆட்டை, yearly. அன்றாடம், adv. A kind of curious chain carried as a curiosity or amusement, worn by itinerant mendicants of the இலாடம் country, ஓர்சங்கிலி. இலாடசன்னியாசி, s. A monk, or mendicant of that country. இலாடபாஷை, s. The dialect, or language of that country. இலாடர், s. Natives of that country.

il (p. 55) . A form of the fifth case, (see இன்), ஐந்தனுருபு, which denotes. 1. Removal, withdrawal, நீங்கல். (a) Literally --as தமரிற்றீர்ந்தான், he has left his relations, i. e. for ascetic life. (b) (fig.) In which it expresses speciality, disparity, &c., and includes the comparative degree --as அரசரிற்பெரியரந்தணர், the Brahman caste is superior to the royal. 2. Similitude, ஒப்பு--as திறல்வேனுதியிற்பூத்தகேணி. A tank whose flowers resemble the points of mighty lances. 3. The bearing of a place, எல்லை--as கருவூரில்வடக்கு, north of Caroor.--Note. This form of the fifth case is peculiar to the poetic dialect. 4. The primitive cause, ஏது--as பொன்னிற் செய்தமுடி, a crown made of gold. 24)

iẕi (p. 55) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To descend, dismount, sink, fall into, to be involved in, இறங்க. 2. To be degraded, disgraced, to degenerate, to be reduced in character, estimation, rank or circumstances, இழிவுபட. 3. To fall below mediocrity, to be inferior, to be below in comparison, தாழ. இழிகடை, s. [vul.] The meanest, lowest, most degraded, மிகவிழிந்தது. (Abusively.) அவனொரு இழிகடை. Disgraceful or improper language, பழிச்சொல், of which four kinds are enumerated, viz.: 1. கோள் --குறளை, an invidious or injurious report, tale bearing, aspersion, slander, backbiting. 2. பொய்மொழி, lying, falsehood. 3. கடுஞ்சொல், harsh expressions, irritating language, scolding. 4. பயனில்சொல், nonsense, idle talk, vain expressions. 2. In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். He is vexed by want of food. கொடிது--கொடியது, appel. noun. That which is cruel, கொடுமையானது. கொடியகாடு, s. A wild, inhospitable desert. கொடியகூற்றன், s. The cruel Yama. கொடியசண்டாளர், s. The black hooded-snake, being the larger kind-oppos. to பாப்பார நாகம். பறைபோட--பறையறைய, inf. As பறைசாற்ற. பறைப்பருந்து, s. A brownish kind of kite or hawk. பறைப்பழக்கம், s. Pariah habits, practices &c. 2. Low, vile, degraded habits. பறைப்பாட்டு, s A song sung by a Pariah, any low song. 2. Low abuse, as offered by a Pariah, &c., திட்டு. பறைபாட்டுக்குஞ் [or பறைப்பேச்சுக்கும்.] சுரை ப்பூவிற்குமணமில்லை. The song or speech of a Pariah, and the flower of சுரை gourd are both destitute of fragrance. பறைப்புடையன், s. A kind of புடை யன் serpent. பறைப்பூச்சி, s. [prov.] A spider. பறைப்பேச்சு, s. Low, vulgar language, the ungrammatical dialect of Pariahs. பறைமுழக்கு, v. noun. The sounding of drums by Pariahs at the temples of the ferocious deities, and at cross roads, in case of sickness. பறைமுறை, s. Publishing by beat of drum. பறைமுறைசாற்ற--பறைமுறைபோட --பறைமுறையிட, inf. As பறைசாற்ற. பறைமேளம், s. The drum of Pariahs. பறையர், s. [pl.] The drummer caste. பறையவளவு, s. A Pariah compound. garden, &c. பறையவீடு, s. A Pariah house. பறையன், s. [fem. பறைச்சி, pl. பறை யர்.] A beater of a drum. 2. A low caste man. சாண்பறைக்குமுழத்தடி. A stick of an arm's length, for a Pariah of a span in height; i. e., the vulgar must be forced to work by flogging. பறையனும்பார்ப்பானும்போல. As unlike as a Pariah and a Brahman. பறையாமை, s.
