See பிங்கலை. இடைக்கட்டு, s. A girdle, sash. 2. The allowance made for the weight of a vessel before weighing any thing in it. இடைக்காடன், s. A Rishi or சித்தன்--one of the eighteen. இடைக்கிடை. Here and there, interspersed, நடுநடுவே. 2. Of like weight, even weight, equilibrium, நிறைக்குநிறை இடைக்குலநாதன், s. Vishnu as brought up by shepherds. இடைக்குறை, s. [in grammar.] A word shortened in the middle, syncope, elision; as ஓதி for ஓந்தி, camelion. (See விகாரம்.) 2. An island, blank space in a river, &c., ஆற்றிடைக்குறை. இடைக்கொள்ளை, s. Pillaging, plunder, free booty, plundering without regard to either party, நடுக்கொள்ளை. 2. (in Agastiar.) The ravages of an epidemic discase, கொள்ளைநோயான்வருமழிவு. இடைசுருங்குபறை, s. A small drum tapering in the middle, உடுக்கை. இடைசூரி, s. [prov.] Gold or silverbeads interspersed here and there between sacred or other beads, உருத்திராக்க முதலியவற்றிற்கிடையிற்கோத்திடுவது. இடைச்சனி--இடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The eleventh lunar asterism, in which Saturn is considered very malignant. See கடையெழுஞ்சனி and முதலெழுஞ் சனி. இடைச்சன், s. The second child, இரண்டாம்பேறு. (c.) இடைச்சாதி, s. The middle emphatically (a pleonasm in rhetoric.) இடைநரை, s. Hair or beard growing grey here and there. இடைநிலை, s. In verbs generally, the characteristics of tense, வினையிடைநிலை. 2. A neutral state, neutral or middle state, stagnation in business transactions, இருபுறத்திலுஞ்சாராமனிற்கை. 3. In some compound nouns, one of the component parts, பெயரிடைநிலை. இடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. One of the beauties of poetry, விளக்கணிமூன்றிலொன்று. See தீபகம். இடைநிலைமயக்கு, s. [in orthography.] The proper combination of letters in the middle of a word, மொழியி லிரண்டெழுத்து மயங்கிநிற்கை--if the same consonant be repeated in the middle of a word, it is called, உடனிலைமெய்மயக்கு; if otherwise, it is called, வேற்றுநிலைமெய்ம யக்கு. இடைநீரினிற்க, inf. [prov.] To swim with the body erect and the water only up to the waist. இடைப்பட, inf. To interpose, happen in the interim, come in, between, among, &c., to happen, இடையிலுண்டாக. இடைப்படுதானம், s. Giving of a secondary order, bestowing through pity on the poor, the blind, மத்திமதானம். இடைப்பழம், s. Ripe fruits interspersed among the unripe. இடைப்பழம்பழுத்தல், v. noun. Ripening as fruits here and there. இடைப்பிறவரல், v. noun. Words intervening between any one word and another with which it makes sense--as between the noun and its attribute, &c., எழுவாய்முதலிய தொடரினுள் இடையிலேற்ற பிற சொல்வரல். இடைப்புழுதி, s. Land in a state for sowing, neither very moist nor very dry, காய்ந்துங்காயாதிருக்கிறபுழுதி. இடைப்புள்ளி, s. Marks scattered here and there--as in tobacco leaves, &c., fruits, &c. இடைப்பூட்டு, s. To cease or terminate suddenly. இடையறாவன்பு, s. Never-ceasing love. இடையன், s. (fem. இடைச்சி.) A shepherd--as occupying a middle position. இடைப்புத்திபிடரியிலே. The shepherds have their wit in their nape; i. e. they have none. இடையன்கால்வெள்ளி, s. [prov.] The star Aldabaran in the constellation Aries, ஓர்விண்மீன். இடையாந்தரம், s. An intermediate space or time. அந்தவேலை யிடையாந்தரத்திலே கெட்டுப்போ யிற்று. The business was interrupted, spoiled in the interim. இடையாயர், s. Persons of a middling class in piety, excellence, &c. See தலை and கடை. இடையிட, inf. To intervene, be interspersed, to have intermediate spaces either of time or place, to intermit, happen intermediately, நடுவிற்றோன்ற. இடையிட்டுவந்தசெல்வம், s. Acquired wealth and prosperity, obtained during life, not derived from ancestors. இடையிட்டெதுகை, s. The எது கை or rhyming of the third letter in every other line. இடையிடை. From time to time, at intervals, intervening space. இடையிலேகொண்டுபோக, inf. To take by theft or force, to plunder fruits, furniture, &c. 2. To take off property at one's death--as persons who are not heirs. 3. To seize and carry off property from one who has stolen it--as a constable from a thief. (c.) இடையிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க, inf. The act of rejecting. கழிப்பு, v. noun. Expulsion, rejection, emission, கழிக்கை. 2. Offering to planets, demons, &c., to remove their malignity, சாந்திகழிக்கை. 3. Blemish, defect, fault, குற்றம். 4. That which is refused, rejected. 5. [in arithmetic.] Subtraction, கழிப்புக்கணக்கு. கழிப்புக்கழிக்க, inf. To expel malign influence by offerings. This is done by waving boiled rice, cakes, &c., over the head of the patients after which the materials used are thrown away. 70)

kuẕippu (p. 129) s. (See under the verb, குழி.) A peculiar harmonic rhythm in verse, in which the மோனை rhyming of the metrical feet are discarded, but the correspondence of the letters, or syllables, ending each foot and beginning the next forms a pleasing hormony--as in the following: அணியுடன்றபரி, பரியுடன்றகரி, கரியுடன்றகொடி, யணியுதேர்--மணியுடன்றதனு, தனுவுடன்றகணை, கணை யுடன்றகரை, மலிதாப் பிணியுடன்றவம, ரமருடன்றவு ட, லுடலுடன்றவுயிர், பிரிதாப்--பணியுடன்றகுய, வுய ருடன்றபடை, படையுடன்றமறை, யாசனால். The horses chafed on their bits--The elephants were rendered impetuous by the horses--The cars, decked with flags, were violently propelled by the elephants--The bows tinkled with their bells--The arrows were shot forth from the bows--The blood gushed from the arrows' wounds--The battle fiercely raged--The bodies were sore smitten in the battle--The souls separated and fled from the bodies. Thus the pious chief (Joshua), high raised on his jewel-decked chariot, vanquished the opposing hosts. Here, the feet are not regarded, but குழிப்பு forms the harmony. The variety used is தனதனந்ததன--தனதனந்ததன--தனதனந்த தன--தனதனா. (Besch. Shen. Tam. Gram.) 2)

kūppiṭu (p. 134) கிறேன், கூப்பிட்டேன், வேன், கூப்பிட, v. a. To call one, to call by name, to call attention, அழைக்க. 2. To call on one for aid, to cry to the deity; to invoke --as evil spirits, முறையிட. 3. To call with authority, to summon, to cite, அதிகாரத்தா லழைக்க. 4. To invite, வரவழைக்க. 5. v. n. To call out, to cry out, to exclaim, to halloo, to shriek, to whoop, கூவ. 6. To cry--as certain animals, மிருகங்கூப்பிட; [ex கூப்பு. calling, et. இடு.] கூப்பிட்ட குரலுக்கொருவருமில்லை. To rice grow high, or tall. 2. To rise to affluence, influence, &c. 3. To be animated with joy, or zeal for an enterprize; to be roused with anger. தட்டிக்கேட்க, inf. To speak or remonstrate. தட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To quiet, to lull by tapping. 2. To cheer, to encourage men or beasts by patting on the back, shoulders, &c. 3. [in prison bars.] To tap a person so that another may grasp him. தட்டிக்கொள்ள, inf. To be exhausted, to be in want. 2. To strike against, to be resisted, by an obstacle. 3. To cast off or exclude from society. 3. To suspend from an office, &c. 4. To excommunicate. தள்ளுதல், v. noun. Pushing, discounting, banishment, &c., as தள்ளு. தள்ளுதலின்சீட்டு, s. A bill of divorcement. தள்ளுபாடு, v. noun. Being rejected. சந்திரனொன்றுதள்ளியோடுதல், v. noun. Moon's passing within one of the stars of Magha (மகம்) the tenth lunar mansion, or Leo in the Zodiac.--Note. This transit is made the ground of prediction concerning rain, which will be most abundant if only one star is passed, and least, or none at all, if the four are passed. காலந்தள்ள, inf. tḷḷupṭi (p. 229) s. That which is rejected. discarded, abandoned; refuse. தள்ளுபட்டது. 2. Deduction, discount, allowance, கழிக்கப் பட்டது. 3. Exception, exemption, நீக்கப்பட் டது. tuṟ (p. 251) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To leave, relinguish, desert, reject, discard, கைவிட. 2. To renounce matrimony, and secular things, for an ascetic life, இல்லறந்துறக்க. 3. To neglect, dispense with, omit, avoid, தவிர்க்க. (p.) தாய்சொற்றுறந்தால்வாசகமில்லை. There is no excuse for slighting a mother's word, (Avv.) அதைத்துறந்து, v. participle. Leaving this, besides this. துறந்துள்ள, inf. To renounce one's relations. துறந்தார்-துறந்தோர், s. (plu.) Ascetics, recluses, those that have renounced the world for an ascetic life, sannyasis, நீத் தோர். துறப்பு--துறவு, v. noun. Relinquishment, rejection, விடுகை. 2. Renunciation of matrimony and social life, for a life of austerities, of wandering and dependence an charitable gifts for support; or retirement to the desert, சன் னியாசம். 3. The principles of abstraction, or renunciation of secularities, as seated and operative in the mind of the devout ascetic, leading to corresponding actions. துறவர்--துறவோர், s. (plu.)
