eṭu (p. 73) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To take up, lift up, raise, தூக்க. 2. To take off, take away, extract, take out, remove a stain, dirt, humor, &c., or one body from another, chemically, or otherwise combined, ஒன்றிலிருந்தெடுக்க. 3. To undertake, take in hand, enter upon, தொடங்க. 4. To adopt--as a sentiment, &c., receive, take--as one's own, அங்கீகரிக்க. 5. The water of the lake has carried away its embankment. இதினாலிலாகிரியெடுக்கும். This will cause intoxication. சோற்றிலிருக்கிறகல்லையெடுக்கமாட்டாதவன்மோக னக்கல்லைத்தாங்குவானா. Will he who cannot pick out a stone from rice be able to lift the stone architrave of a temple vestibule? i. e. he who is incapable of little matters must be incapable of great ones. விழுந்தவனையெடாமலுதைக்கலாமா. Is it proper to kick, instead of raising, a fallen man? இந்தச்சீலையையெந்தக்கடையிலெடுத்தாய். In what bazaar did you buy this cloth? புல்லெடுக்கிறதரை. Ground covered with an exuberant growth of grass. எடாதஎடுப்பு, s. Living above one's rank, circumstances, means, &c., engaging in an enterprise, beyond one's powers, &c. எடாதஎடுப்பெடுக்கலாகாது. It is improper to engage in an enterprise above one's circumstances. எடுகூலி, s. Porterage, hire for carrying burdens, சுமைக்கூலி. எடுத்தடிமடக்கு, s. Retort, turning a person's reasons or remarks against himself, confuting one by his own arguments, anticipating a person in word, or action, in order to check, or thwart him in his object; interrupting one in speaking, &c. 2. Temerity, rashness; speaking, answering, or acting rashly, துணிவு. எடுத்தடிவைக்க, inf. To begin to step--as a child, காலைப்பெயர்த்துவைக்க. எடுத்தபடி, adv. Suddenly, at once, promptly, extemporaneously. எடுத்தமொழியினெய்தவைத்தல், v. noun. An author's forming rules applicable to the examples he finds-one of the உத்தி. எடுத்தலளவையாகுபெயர், s. One of the four kinds of அளவையாகுபெயர், according to which, the weight of the article weighed is used for the scale. எடுத்தாட்சி, s. A thing much in use, வழக்கம். எடுத்தார்கைப்பிள்ளை, s. A lewd woman, குடும்பத்தைவிட்டுவெளிப்பட்டவள். எடுபட்டுப்போக, inf. To be raised --as a siege. 2. To be abolished. 3. To be defeated. அங்கிருந்தபள்ளிக்கூடம்எடுபட்டுப்போயிற்று.... To enter upon an occupation. 2. To suspend one from office. பூவெடுக்க, inf. To gather flowers. கிணறெடுக்க, inf. To dig a well. 2. [prov.] To select a spot for a well in reference to the situation of the house and other surrounding objects that ill luck may not result, as also to the nature of a soil or the depth at which water may be found, judged of by the produce of the land, &c. வயிறெடுக்க--வயிறுகடுப்பெடுக்க, inf. To have a looseness. தானெடுத்துமொழிதல், v. noun. [in works of science.] The adoption of rules, or language from other authors. See உத்தி. எடுப்பு, v. noun. He will not desist from his purpose. வாயெடுப்பாய்ப்பேசுகிறவன். One who talks arrogantly. ஒருவன்மேலெடுப்பெடுத்தல். Publishing the faults of another. எடுப்பாயிருக்க, inf. To be high. எடுப்பானவன், s. A haughty person, an upstart, one who lives above his rank or circumstances, மேட்டிமைக் காரன். எடுப்புச்சாய்ப்பு, Gentility, genteel and obliging behavior, united with display, pomp, grandeur, &c., உயர்வுதாழ்வு. எடுப்புண்டது, appel. n. That which is taken and carried away. எடுப்புத்தேர், s. A small portable shrine for the conveyance of an idol on men's shoulders--opp. to இழுப்புத்தேர். கல்லெடுப்பு, s. A funeral rite. எடை, v. noun. cuḷukku (p. 198) கிறது, சுளுக்கினது, ம், சுளுக்க, v. n. To be sprained or strained, as a joint, to be displaced, deranged, &c, as a ligament, கை கால் முதலியன சுளுக்க. (c.) நரம்புசுளுக்கிக்கொண்டது.....The tendon is strained. சுளுக்கு, v. noun. A sprain, straining the ligaments of a joint, luxation. சுளுக்குப்பார்க்க, inf. [prov.] To use enchantment for curing a sprain. சுளுக்குமந்திரம், s. A mantra for a sprain. சுளுக்குருவ--சுளுக்குவழிக்க, inf. To rub a sprained limb with oil, ashes, leaves, &c., using incantation. சுளுக்குவழிக்கிறவன்--சுளுக்கெடுக்கிற வன், appel. n. One who cures sprains. சுளுக்கெடுக்க, inf. An end of a garment tucked in. சொருகுதோவத்தி, s. A cloth passing twice round waist, and tucked in. சொருகிக்கொள்ள, inf. To insert in the pocket, bosom, or hair. 2. To be inserted, tucked in, slipped in. 3. To be stuck on, as a fruit on a thorn. 4. (fig.) To entangle one's self, to be inveigled; to become connected with inadvertently--as with some criminal matter, marriage in a low family, &c. வயிற்றைச்சொருகிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது....It pinches my belly--as hunger; it pains my bowels--as a disease. சொருகிவைக்க, inf. tṭumāṟu (p. 222) கிறேன், தடுமாறினேன், வேன், தடுமாற, v. n. [improp. தடமாடு.] To be puzzled, perplexed, disconcerted, bewildered, கலங்க. 2. To be displaced, to be deranged, to be disordered, கலைய. 3. To doubt, to hesitate, to be in suspense, சந்தேகிக்க. (c.) மனந்தடுமாறேல். Be not perplexed. (Avv.) தடுமாறித்திரிய, inf. To roam, as a vagabond. தடுமாறியிடமொழிக்க, inf. To hobble as a verse, தலைகாட்ட.--Note. The meanings are often cant. அனேகரைக்காய்ச்சல்தட்டிப்போட்டது. The fever has prostrated many persons. தண்ணீர்தலைதட்டநிற்கிறது. The water is head deep. [prov.] தலையைத்தட்டிப்போட்டது. It has carried off his head. தேடியபொருள்காலிலேதட்டினதுபோல. As if the thing sought for, had struck against the foot; i. e. getting accidentally the thing desired. நெஞ்சிலேதட்டிப்பார். Knock at your own breast, and inquire. பல்லைத்தட்டிவிடு. Knock out his teeth. மரங்கள் தெருத்தட்டநிற்கின்றன. The trees extend the whole length of the street. [prov.] தொண்டைக்குள்ளேஏதோதட்டுகிறது. To speak or remonstrate. தட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To quiet, to lull by tapping. 2. To cheer, to encourage men or beasts by patting on the back, shoulders, &c. 3.
