akṟṟu (p. 2) கிறேன், அகற்றினேன், வேன், அகற்ற, v. a. To remove, put away, expel, disperse, dissipate, chase away, banish, நீக்க. 2. (p.) To extend, augment, increase, விருத்தியாக்க. (நீதிநெறி.) ex அகல, widen. அறிவகற்று, it will increase knowledge, expand the mind. augment wisdom. 54) *

oṭungku (p. 81) கிறேன், ஒடுங்கினேன், வே ன், ஒடுங்க, v. n. To shrink, become reduced, compressed, closed, contracted, narrow, to lessen, to abate, crouch, lie within a small compass, diminish, grow less--as a globe from the centre to the poles, அடங்க. 2. To be restrained--as the senses, desires, &c., புலனொங்க. 3. To give place, recede, pass on one side--as in meeting a superior; to shrink within one's self, showing reverence, taking off the mantle, turban, sandals, &c.; to creep along sideways, ஒதுங்க. 4. To be reduced in circumstances, power, prosperity, in show, in expenditure, in the mental or bodily faculties, energies, &c., to grow lean, be reduced in size, whether by disease, want of food, or otherwise, குறைய. 5. To cease-as noise, bustle, stir, &c., அமைய. 6. To sink or retire--as the soul in sleep, fainting, or through the different stages at death, சோர. 7. To become dissolved or involved one within another--as the elements, worlds, &c., till all is absorbed in the deity, பூதங்களொடுங்க. 8. To end, terminate, cease, முடிய. 9. To obey, submit, கீழ்ப்படிய. 1. To be concealed, பதுங்க. 11. To be packed, stowed away, செறிய. 12. To be retrenched, சுருங்க. 13. To disappear, become absorbed, dissolved--as salt in water, &c., கரைய. 14. To grow dim-as a light, a heavenly body, &c., to become extinct--as light by passing into its previous elements or ether, ஒளிமழுங்க. மாடுநுகத்தைக்கண்டொடுங்குகிறது. The ox has assumed a sickly appearance; or it shrinks at the sight of the yoke. ஊணொடுங்கவீணொடுங்கும். If his food be reduced, his dissipation will cease. உலகுதோன்றினமுறையேயொடுங்கும். The world will be reduced to its primeval elements in the order in which it was educed. ஆளொடுங்கினவேளைபார்த்துவந்தான். He watched for an opportunity and came when all was still (for plunder, &c.). கலிமுதிரமுதிரப்பெரியவர்களொடுங்கிவிட்டார்கள்... As the iron age advances, the great are reduced. ஒடுங்கலில்பல்கலை. The various sciences which are unlimited. குளிராலொடுங்க, inf. To shrink with cold. ஒடுங்கி, s. A tortoise, ஆமை. ஒடுக்கம், v. noun. Narrowness, straitness, closeness, வழியொடுக்கம். 2. Contraction into itself--as the tortoise, an elastic substance, &c., சுருங்குகை. 3. Retirement within doors, abatement, concealment by stooping and creeping along--as a man to shoot, or a tiger to spring on its prey, &c., பதுங்குகை. 4. Suppression, contraction, reduction, நெருக்கம். 5. Reverence, self-restraint, modesty, அ டக்கம். 6. Involution--as of the elements one into another, absorption, dissolution, disappearance--as of salt in water, ஒன்றிலொன்றடங்குகை. 7. Cessation (of noise, bustle, stir--as by night in time of epidemics, &c.), quietude, calmness, stillness, அமைவு. 8. Sinking as the soul through its different stages at death, gradual reduction--as of circumstances, the powers of the body by age, &c., பலமுதலியவொடுங்குகை. 9. s. End, close, termination, முடிவு. ஒடுக்கத்திலேயொன்றுமில்லை. At the end nothing (of earth) will accompany us, remain, avail, &c. அவனுக்குச்சாப்பாடொடுக்கமாய்ப்போயிற்று. His food is diminished in quantity. காரியமொடுக்கத்தில்வந்தது. The matter has resolved itself into a narrow compass. காரியமொடுக்கமாயிருக்கின்றது. The business, provision, ceremony, &c., is on a small scale. ஒடுக்கநாள், s. A day of distress. ஒடுக்கமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not restrain himself, his passions, desires, &c. 2. One who does not pay proper respect to his superiors. ஒடுக்கம்பார்த்துவர, inf. To attack a house, a city, when in a defenceless state, or by night when all are asleep. ஒடுக்கவணக்கம், s. Modest deportment, reverence, veneration. பனியொடுக்கம், s. The fall of heavy dew when all is still. காற்றொடுக்கம், s. A calm, a lull, absence of wind. புலனொடுக்கம், s. Restraint of the senses. 2. Absorption of the senses by sleep, syncope, the approach of death, &c., unconsciousness, stupor. 49)

klai (p. 96) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To disperse, disorder, derange, break up, disorganize, scatter, confuse, disturb, rout, repulse, dissipate, defeat, drive away, dispel, chase away, குலைக்க. 2. To separate one from a company, to get one out, to detach, banish, exile, exclude, நீக்க. 3. To disunite, disjoin, part, பிரிக்க. 4. To get one dismissed from office, from school, &c., தள்ளுவிக்க. 5. The wind has dispersed the clouds. எனக்குச்சகாயஞ்செய்யவிருந்தான்வேறொருவனவ னைக்கலைத்தான். When his intention was to assist me another dissuaded him. கலைத்துப்போட--கலைத்துவிட, inf. To confound, perplex. குடும்பத்தைக்கலைக்க, inf. To cause the breaking up of a family. காடுகலைக்க, inf. To beat the bush, &c., in order to start game. 2. Populated country or district, as distinguished from forest tracts, தேசம். (c.) 4. (சது.) Place, room, space, area, பரப்பு. 5. Locality, situation, இடம். 6. Earth, land, as distinguished from sea, பூமி. 7. The world, உலகம். 8. Side, region, quarter, பக்கம். --Note. The five principal countries of SouthernIndia, are: 1. தொண்டவளநாடு, Tonda; 2. சோழவளநாடு. Chola; 3. பாண்டிவளநாடு; Pandia; 4. கொங்குவளநாடு. Kongu; 5. மலைநாடு, Malyalam. Of districts are தொட்டியநாடு, Dottiya; நாஞ்சிநாடு, in Malyalam, and மறவ வாடு, the Marava province. நாடெங்கும்வாழக்கேடொன்றுமில்லை. When a country prospers, there is no insurrection. (Avv.) திருநாடு, s. A name of Vaikuntha the paradise of Vishnu. நாடுசார்நிலம், s. Ground adapted to the growth of rice. நாடுபடிதல், v. noun. Obeying, submitting as a country to its rulers, நாட் டார்வசப்படுதல். நாடுபடுதிரவியம், s. Country productions. See திரவியம். நாடோடி, appel. n. A vagrant, a vagabond, a stroller, நிலையற்றவன்; also நாடோடி யாய்த்திரிகிறவன். 2. [in comb.] Common to the country. நாடோடியாய்வழங்குகிறது. It is common. நாடோடிச்சொல்--நாடோடிப்பேச்சு, s. Words common in the country, provincial dialect, வழக்கச்சொல். நாடோடிப்பாஷை, s. The vernacular tongue, நாகரீகமற்றபாஷை. நாட்டமைதி, s. The settled state of a country, தேசத்தினமைவு. 2. Things promoting the prosperity of a state, in six particulars: 1. செல்வம், wealth; 2. விளை நிலம், corn-fields; 3. செங்கோல், a good government; 4. நோயின்மை, freedom from epidemics; 5. வளம், fruitfulness; 6. குறும் பின்மை, exemption from crime. (சது.) நாட்டவத்தனம், s. [prov.] Clownishness, rusticity, நாட்டுப்பாங்கு. நாட்டவன்--நாட்டான், s. A countryman, a clown. நாட்டாண்மை, s. [vul. நாட்டாமை.] Chieftaincy of a country, ஊராளுந்தன்மை. நாட்டாண்மைக்காரன், s. Chief of a country or village; a Natamagar. நாட்டாண்மைக்காரி, s. Wife of a Natamagar. 2. A proud forward woman. நாட்டாண்மைப்பண்ண, inf. To manage the office of a Natamagar. நாட்டார், s. [sing. நாட்டான்.] People of a country, தேய்த்தார். 2. Countrymen, rustics, நாட்டுப்புறத்தார். 3. Chief persons among the Vellala caste. நாட்டாள், s. [com. காட்டாள்.] A laborer, வேலைசெய்வோன். நாட்டாளுக்கொருநீட்டாளோ. Must a day laborer have a servent? நாட்டுக்கணக்கன், s. A village accountant. நாட்டுக்குற்றம், s. Things injurious to a country, pests, scourges, ஊருக்குள்ள தீங்கு.--One class is seven-fold: 1. தொட்டி யர், strolling jugglers, wizards, witches; 2. திருடர், thieves, robbers; 3. யானை, wild elephants; 4. பன்றி, wild hogs; 5. விட் டில், insects; 6. கிள்ளை, parrots; 7. பெரு மழை, excessive rain.--Another class is eight, fold: 1. விட்டில், locusts and insects; 2. தன்னரசு, anarchy; 3. வேற்ற ரசு, invasion by a foreign power; 4. யானை, elephants; 5. மிகுமழை, excessive rain; 6. மிகுகாற்று, high winds, tempests. 7. கிள்ளை, parrots; 8. நட்டம், dissipation or dancing. (சது.) நாட்டுச்சந்தம்--நாட்டுப்பாங்கு, s. Slovenly or rustic habits of dress, behavior or talk. நாட்டுச்சார்பு, s. Agricultural tracts, மருதநிலம். நாட்டுச்சிறப்பு, s. The excellencies, natural or artificial of a country, ஊர் வளம். நாட்டுப்புறம், s. Country parts. நாட்டுப்புறத்தார், s. [pl.] Rustics, unpolished persons. நாட்டுப்பெண், s. A daughter-in-law, மருமகள். (Tanjore usage.) நாட்டுப்போங்கு--நாட்டுவழக்கம், s. The style, fashion, and manners of a country, ஊர்க்கடுத்தவிதம். 2. Rusticity, coarseness, அவிவேகவாடிக்கை. நாட்டுமட்டம், s. A country pony not from Pegu. நாட்டுவர்த்தமானம், s. The news of the Mofussil. நாட்டுவளப்பம்--நாட்டுவளம், s. Fertility of country, நாட்டின்சீர். 2. Good order of a country, as to its inhabitants, the animals, &c. நாட்டுவெள்ளரி, s. The wild Cucumber, of native or spontaneous growth. 66)

piḷ (p. 318) க்கிறது, ந்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To be split, cleaved, rent; to gape, to crack, கிழிய. 2. To be blasted, to be blown up, தகர, 3. To be pierced, penetrated, துளைபட. 4. [fig.] To be mortified, cut to the heart, to be heart-broken, through sorrow, remorse or shame, உள்நெகிழ. 5. v. a. க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க. vāyu (p. 385) --வாயுவு, s. [com. வாய்வு.] Wind, air, காற்று. 2. Wind or vital air in the system; also windy affections, flatulency, வாதம். W. p. 752. VAYU. 3. Vayu, the wind-god, and regent of the northwest. See திக்குப்பாலகர். எனக்குவாயுகொண்டிருக்கிறது. I have flatulency in my bowels. அசீரணவாயு. Indigestion. வாயு, 1. or தசவாயு. Ten vital airs in the body: 1. பிராணன், situated in the heart; 2. அபானன், in the top of the head and passing downwards; 3. சமா னன், in the pit of the throat; 4. வியா னன், pervading the whole body; 5. உதானன், in the navel; 6. நாகன், which effects motion and speech; 7. கூர்மன், causing horripilation; 8. கிருதரன், or கிருகரன், seated in the face; 9. தேவதத் தன், that which is exhaled in yawning, &c; 1. தனஞ்செயன், or தனஞ்சயன், that which remains in the body after death an escapes by splitting the head. See these words.-- For மேகவாயு, தமரகவாயு, பாரிசவாயு, see their primaries. வாயுக்கணம், s. [also மாருதகணம்.] One of the four inauspicious feet. See அஷ்டகணம், under கணம். வாயுக்குத்து, s. Pain from wind, and flatulency; cholic. வாயுசகன்--வாயுச்சகன், s. Fire, as the comrade of wind, அக்கினி; [ex சகன்.] வாயுதாரணை, s. Suppression of the the vital airs, by yogas, &c. வாயுத்தம்பம்--வாயுத்தம்பனம்--வாயு ஸ்தம்பனம் s. The art of arresting the winds. See கலைஞானம். வாயுபகவான், s. The god of the wind. வாயுபூதம், s. Atmosphere. வாயுமண்டலம், s. Region of the winds. வாயுமலடு, s. Sterility from flatulency. See மலடு. வாயுமூலை, s. North-west, as the source of winds, whence the god sends them forth. வாயுமைந்தன், s. [lit. wind-born.] Hanuman. 2. Bhima--as மாருதி. வாயுவம், s. One of the nine indications of the clouds. See மேகம், 9. வாயுவாஸ்திரம், s. A wind-dart, received from Vayu. வாயுவிளங்கம், s. [com. வாய்விளங்கம்.] A medicinal seed, like a pepper-corn, put in the mouth of children to assist their speech. (சது.) வாயுவின்கூறுபாடு, s. Characteristic qualities of the vital airs in the system, five in number, as ஓடல், கிடத்தல், கூட்டல், ஏறுதல், இறங்குதல். See வாயுவின்கூறு under கூறு. வாயுவைப்பிடிக்கிறமருந்து. viṭi (p. 392) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To break or dawn, as the day, உதயமாக. 2. To be dissipated; to be divided as night from day; to be dispersed--as poverty, நீங்க. 3. To be full after privation, திருத்தியாக. எழுந்திருவிடிந்துபோயிற்று. It is day-break, get up. பலபலென்றுவிடிந்துவருகிறது. It begins to dawn. அவனுக்கென்னவந்தாலும்விடியாது. Whatever he may obtain, it will not be enough. நீயொருபொழுதும்விடியவேமாட்டாய். You will never prosper. என்தரித்திரமெப்போதுவிடியும். When shall my poverty be removed? விடிநிலா, s. Morning-moon. விடியாப்பானை, s. (lit.) A vessel which cannot be filled, (met.) one who cannot be satisfied. (local.) விடியாமூஞ்சி, s. A person with whom nothing prospers.
