The planets in the Hindu system are nine, called நவக் கிரகம், viz.: 1. ஆதித்தன் or ஞாயிறு, the sun. 2. சோமன் or திங்கள், the Moon. 3. அங்காரகன் or செவ்வாய், Mars. 4. புதன், Mercury. 5. பிரகற்பதி--பிரகஸ்பதி or வியாழன், Jupiter. 6. சுக்கிரன் or வெள்ளி, Venus. 7. சனி, Saturn. 8. இராகு, Caput draconis. 9. கேது, Cauda draconis. The last two are considered visible in eclipses of the sun and moon, இராகு being, black, and கேது red. (See under கோள்.) 3. kētu (p. 139) s. [in mythol.] Cauda draconis (dragon's tail) or the red serpent into which the trunk of the Asura Sainhikeya, severed from the head (Rahu) by Vishnu, at the churning of the sea of milk, was changed; and which, with Caput draconis, is said to swallow the sun and moon for betraying them.
