uṇ (p. 59) --உண்ணு, கிறேன், உண்டே ன், உண்பேன் or உண்ணுவேன், உண்ண, v. a. To eat, drink, suck--as a child; to take food, whether solids, liquids or other kinds, to taste, அருந்த. 2. To feed, make a full meal --as a dinner, &c., புசிக்க. 3. To enjoy, suffer, experience, or receive the fruits of actions performed in former births, or in future the actions of the present, அனுபவிக்க. 4. To imbibe, absorb, விழுங்க.--Note. With verbal roots and sometimes with verbal nouns it forms a passive--as அடியுண்ண, to be beaten; அலையுண்ண, to be distressed. உண்டசுற்றமுருகும். Relations or friends who have eaten together will cherish towards each other kindly feelings. உண்டசோற்றுக்கிரண்டகம்பண்ணப்படாது. One ought not to be ungrateful to his benefactor. உண்டார்மேனிகண்டாற்றெரியும். A person's diet may be known by his appearance. உண்ணக்கைசலிக்க. To be so delicate as to tire by eating--as a dainty child, &c. 2. To be wearied, cloyed, sated, &c. by too profuse a supply of food. உய்யாவினைப்பயனுண்ணுங்காலை. While experiencing the inevitable fruits of former births. உண்கலம், s. A plate or dish to cat from, a porringer, commonly brass, தாலம். உண்டாட்டு, s. Play of females, மகளிர்விளையாட்டு. 2. Play, sport, விளையாட்டு. 3. Festivity, drinking, joviality, மதுவுண் டாடுகை. உண்ணி, s. An appellative termination often contracted to உணி--as தூக்குணி, &c., one who eats, an eater. உண்ணீர், s. Water to drink. உண்பிக்க, inf. To cause to eat, drink, &c., feed one, உண்ணுவிக்க. தூக்குணி, s. One so vile and daring as not to fear hanging. 2. A malefactor who is hanged. 3. One who hangs about to get food. அழுகுணி, s. One who is always weeping; also one who is disposed to weep. அடியுணி--குட்டுணி, s. One who is beaten. குத்துணி, s. One who is stabbed. 2. A dastard, mean spirited person. இரப்புணி, s. A beggar, one who eats what he begs. அடையுணி, s. One dependent for food. கட்டுண்ண, inf. To be tied up. வெட்டுண்ண, inf. To be cut down. தடையுண்ண, inf. To be hindered. மையுண்கண்ணி, s. A woman with painted eyes, (lit.) she whose eyes have absorbed paint. முலையுண்ணுங்குழந்தை, s. An infant at the breast. நீலுண்டுகிலிலை. The pencil which has imbibed blue paint. (நன்னூலுரை.) கள்ளுண்ணி, s. A drunkard. தள்ளுண்ண, inf. To be rejected. வீண்சோறுண்ணி, s. A rice consumer, a worthless person. உண்டல். A past verbal form of உண்ணல், eating. 119)

uloṭṭi (p. 66) s. (Tel. லொட்டி.) Intoxicating liquor, வெறிதரும்வஸ்து. 2. A small earthen pot attached to a palm tree to receive its juice, கள்ளுக்குடுவை. அவன்பணமெல்லாமுலொட்டியிற்போடுகிறான்... He lavishes all his money in liquor. உலொட்டிக்காரன்--உலொட்டிகு டிக்கிறவன்--உலொட்டிமூஞ்சி, s. A drunkard. 37) *

kḷi (p. 100) s. Joy, gladness, delight, exhilaration, exultation, mirth, jollity, hilarity, மகிழ்ச்சி. 2. Riot, revelling கள்முதலிய அருந்திக்களிக்கை. 3. Wantonness, licentiousness, unrestrained passions, arrogance, சிற் றின்பம். 4. Bewilderment, aberration of mind or intellect, intoxication whether from liquor or circumstances, frenzy, fury, மயக்கம். 5. Toddy, vinous liquor, கள். 6. A person intoxicated with money, learning, liquor, &c., a reveller, செருக்குள்ளவன். (p.) 7. Thick pulp, any soft, thick mass --as thick pap, &c., the quality or consistency of a thick paste or glutinous matter, இறுகியபழச்சாறு. 8. A kind of pap of hasty-pudding, குழம்பு. 9. A kind of pottage hard in itself and made with flour, மாவாற்கிண்டியகளி. களிகிண்ட--களிகிளற, inf. To make களி, pap. களிகூர, inf. To rejoice, exult, மகிழ்ச்சிகூர. களிக்காய், s. Pulpy-fruit, களிப் பானகாய். களிநெஞ்சன், s. A jovial, wanton person. களிப்பாக்கு, s. Areca-nut boiled and dried, அவித்தபாக்கு. களிமண், s. Clay, potter's clay. களிமண்ணடைக்கிறதுபோலடைத்துப்போடுகிறான். He takes in, or swallows up as if he had to fill (a pit) with clay; i. e. he is a glutton, a gormand, a gormandizer. களிமண்தரை, s. Clayey soil. களியர், s. Bacchanaliaus, drunkards, கள்ளுண்டுகளிப்போர். களியர்வண்ணம், s. A poem extolling the advantages of high living, dainty food, vinous liquors, &c., an epicurean poem, ஓர்வண்ணம். களியாட்டு, s. Drunken feasts, bacchanalism, revels, உண்டாட்டு. கேழ்வரகுகளி--கம்புக்களி--சோ ளக்களி, s. Pottage prepared with the flour of different grains. 13)

kuṭi (p. 116) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To drink, to take drink, பருக. 2. To inhale, உறிஞ்ச. 3. To tipple, to guzzle, to drink toddy or arrack, to drink to excess, மதுவுண்ண. 4. To suck--as infants or other young creatures, முலையுண்ண. 5. To devour, to quaff, மண்ட. 6. To take or swallow-as liquid medicines, &c., மருந்துகுடிக்க. 7. (fig.) To absorb, to imbibe, உட்கொள்ள. 8. To smoke--as tobacco, &c. உயிர்குடித்தன்றிநில்லா. Not stopping except to drink the lives of those around. குடியாதவீடுவிடியாது. No tippler is content unless he drinks. குடிவெறிஅடிபடத்தீரும். Flogging is a sure remedy for intoxication. நல்லபால்குடித்துவளர்ந்தவன். One who has been virtuously brought up. நிலந்தண்ணீரைக்குடித்துவிட்டது. The earth has drunk up or absorbed the water. பால்குடிக்கிறகுழந்தை. A child at the breast. குடிகாரன்--குடியன் s. A drunkard, a tippler, வெறியன். குடிமதம், s. Excitement of spirits by drinking. குடிவெறி, s. Intoxication by drinking, intemperance. குடிநீர், s. A decoction, a tincture, a medical infusion, a diet-drink. குடி, v. noun. Drink; drunkenness; tippling. குடித்தல், v. noun. The act of drinking. 47)

tḷḷāṭu (p. 229) கிறேன், தள்ளாடினேன், வேன், தள்ளாட, v. n. (a compound of தள் and ஆடு.) To stagger, to reel, as a drunkard, &c., தடுமாற. 2. To rock, to vacillate, to vibrate, as a tree in a storm, &c. அலைய. 3. To waver, to fluctuate, as the mind, அசைய. (c.) தள்ளாடித்தள்ளாடிநடக்கிறான். mṭi (p. 340) s. The lap of a person, the belly or bosom, வயிறு. 2. Cloth, garment, வஸ்திரம். 3. A piece of cloth of twenty-four cubits, being either four அங்கவஸ்திரம், of six cubits, or two தோவத்தி, of twelve cubits each. 4. A kind of cloth made of the fibre of trees, worn after ablution, as பொத்தித்தோவத்தி. 5. A fold in the cloth wrapped round the waist, answering for a pocket, மடிந்தது. 6. The udder of an animal; or [according to R.] roundness of the female breast. 7. Ruin, loss, detriment, damage, கேடு. 8. Sloth, idleness, indolence, சோம்பல். 9. If there be a heavy girdle [from money], there will be fear in the way. கரைமடி, s. A shore-net. தட்டுமடி, s. A deep sea-net. மடிகசக்க--மடிபிசைய, inf. To rub the udder of a cow to fit it for milking. மடிகழுவ, inf. To mollify and wash the udder of a cow after calving. மடிகோல, inf. To make a large lap or fold for the reception of any thing to be given, showing greediness. மடிசுரக்க, inf. To form, as milk in the udder. மடிச்சீலை--மடிப்பை, s. A purse kept in the girdle. மடிபிடி, v. noun. Fisticuffs, scuffle, seizure of one by the waist-cloth. 2. Difficulties and quarrels between persons, சண்டை. மடிபிடிக்க, inf. To seize one by the waist-cloth. 2. To dispute, recriminate. மடிபிடிவழக்கு, s. Mutual complaint, application of two parties at once for redress, &c. மடிப்பிச்சை, s. Alms received in the cloth. 2. Begging very humbly. தெய்வமே இந்தப்பிள்ளையை மடிப்பிச்சையாய்த்தர வேணும். O God! please to give the child [to us] as alms. மடிப்பெட்டி, s. [prov.] A betel-pouch carried in the waist-fold. மடிமாங்காய்போடுதல், v. noun. Charging one falsely, பொய்யாய்க்குற்றஞ்சாற்றல். 2. [prov.] Giving bribes, பரிதானங்கொடுத்தல். மடியிறக்குதல்--மடிவிடுதல், v. noun. Distending of the udder, before calving. மடியிலேகடட, inf. To fasten up in the waist-cloth. 2. To pocket by little and little, dishonestly. மடியிலேபிள்ளையைவைக்க, inf. To take a child in arms. மடியிற்பணம், s. [also மடிப்பணம்.] Money in pocket. மடியேற்குதல்--மடியேந்துதல், v. noun. Receiving alms in one's cloth--as a woman. மடியின்மை--மடிவின்மை, neg. Alacrity, activity, சந்துஷ்டி; [ex இன்மை.] 3)

Being drunk or mad from liquor, or anger; growing violent. வெறிக்குணம், s. An angry temper, கோபக்குணம். வெறியன், s. A drunkard; a mad man. வெறியாட, inf. To be drunk, to act like a drunken person. 2. To shake and gesticulate as though possessed, through incantations. வெறியாட்டு, v. noun. The agitation, and shaking, &c., of one possessed, சன் னதம். வெறியாட்டாளர், s. Bacchanalian dancers, தேவர்க்காடுவோர். வெறியோட, inf. To be in despair, as one who has lost a very dear friend, நம்பிக்கையற. 2. To become empty, as a house by the death of its inhabitants, வெறுமையாக. 3. To be overcome as by the sight of excessive brilliancy, திகைக்க. மின்னாருங்கண்கள்வெறியோடிவிட்டனவே......
