In erotics, the section which relates to an application made for the opening of a door to a coming or expected lover; or in war poems, to a warrior returning in triumph after a victory, கதவுதிறக்கை. Firm determination, firm resolve, either for good or evil, கரும முடிக்குந்துணிவு. 6. Doctrines, truth firmly believed as necessary to salvation, உறுதி யானகொள்கை. கடைப்பிடிக்க, inf. To ascertain clearly, to know certainly, தெளிய. 2. To determine, resolve firmly, be decided in purpose either in a good or evil course, துணிய. 3. To remember, to bear in mind benefits, to be grateful, &c., to be deeply sensible of one's obligations for favor received, மறவாமலிருக்க. 4. To have an abiding sense of the importance of virtue and religion, சன்மார்க்கத்திலுறுதியாயி ருக்க. 5. To have an unwavering faith in the essentials of religion, to embrace or take firm hold of religious instructions, &c., தேவபத்தியிலுறுதியாயிருக்க. 6. To grasp, resort to--as the soul for its last refuge, பற்ற. 7. To provide, be provident, be economical, வீண்செலவுசெய்யாது வைக்க. (p.) கதவிலரேதற்சார்ந்தார்வண்ணங்கடைப்பிடியாதார். Unkind are they who are forgetful of the situation of their friends. (காரிகையுரை.) மற்றதன்கள்ளங்கடைப்பிடித்தனன்று. [in grammar.] The penultimate, ஈற்றயல். (p.) கடையர், s. (fem. கடைசியர்--க டைச்சியர்.) Laboring classes in agricultural districts, மருதநிலமாக்கள். (p.) கடையழிய, inf. To be afflicted with a painful and lingering disease, to suffer extremely, வருந்த. 2. To be distressed with poverty, வறுமையுற. 3. To degenerate, கேடுற. கடையனல், s. The fire by which the world will finally be consumed. கடையன், s. A man of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோன். கடையாகெதுகை, s. A rhyme, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையாட்டம், s. [prov.] Lingering in disease, excessive suffering from disease, வருத்தம். 2. Vexation, teasing, imminence, trouble, annoyance, உலைவு, lit. mean work. கடையாட்டப்பட, inf. To drudge, to be employed in mean work. 2. To linger in disease, suffer exceedingly, வ ருந்த. 3. To be vexed. harassed. &c.-as a nurse by troublesome children, உ லைய. கடையாணி, s. A linch-pin, அச் சாணி. 2. A peg or pin used to keep a tenon in a mortise, or for any similar purpose, பூட்டாணி. கடையாந்தரம்--கடையீறு, s. [vul.] The very last, the extremity, &c.--as கடைசி. கடையாயார், s. Persons of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோர். கடையால், s. Stern of a vessel, தோணியின்பிற்புறம். See கடைசால், usage. கடையிணைமுரண், s. A rhyme when the last two feet of a line are of opposite meanings, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையிணைமோனை, s. A consonance of the first letters in the last two feet of each line in a verse. (p.) கடையீடு, s. Land of the poorest quality, கடைத்தரமானநிலம். கடையுணி, s. [prov.] A mean fellow who eats what he can beg or pick up-- a worthless being, இழிந்தோன். கடையுண்ண, inf. [prov.] To linger in disease, வருத்தப்பட. 2. To be stinted or weak in growth--as a child, நசுங்க. 3. To be neglected, abused, &c.-- as a book, a utensil, &c.; in this meaning it is a term of displeasure, இகழப்பட. கடையுவா, s. The full moon, பௌரணை. (p.) கடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The twelfth asterism in which Saturn is considered malignant in his influence, உத்திரம். See சனி. கடைவழி, s. Final salvation, the last path. கடைவழிக்குதவும். It will avail for the salvation of the soul. காதற்றஊசியும்வாராதுகாணுங்கடைவழிக்கே. Be assured that even an eyeless needle will not accompany you in that sad hour. கடைவளர, inf. To be enlarged-said of the genitals of a cow, &c., before yeaning, ஈனுங்காலத்திற்குறிவிரிய. கடைவள்ளல், s. The last of the third class of liberal men--he who bestows charity from motives of ostentation, கேட்டபின்கொடுப்போன். கடைவாய், s. The corner or extremities of the mouth, வாயின்கடை. கடைவாய்நக்கி, s. A great miser, உலுத்தன், lit. he who licks the corners of his mouth. கடைவாய்ப்பல், s. The double teeth, the grinders, the back teeth. கடைவாய்வழிய, inf. To drivel at the corners of the mouth--as old people or persons asleep, வாய்நீரொழுக. கடைவிரிக்க, inf. To spread out goods for sale in a shop or market, கடைதிறக்க. கடைவீதி, s. A market-street. கடைவைக்க, inf. To place goods for sale in a shop or bazaar. 2. To open a shop on an auspicious day after the new-year, கடைதிறக்க. பலசரக்குக்கடை, s. A shop where commodities of various kinds are sold. மளிகைக்கடை, s. A wholesale ware-house. காசுக்கடை, s. An exchange. அடிக்கடை, s. The first shop in a market-street. மருந்துக்கடை, s. An apothecary's shop. கசாய்க்கடை, s. (Tel.) A butcher's shop. சாராயக்கடை, s. An arrack shop. கீரைக்கடை, s. A green-grocer's shop. சவுளிக்கடை, s. A cloth-merchant's shop. விரற்கடை, s. The top of an ola bond, as far as the hole through which it is filed; also the stamped part of an indenture or bond, which is nipped off, when the bond becomes null and void, உடன்படிக்கையின்காது. 6. Eye of an umbrella wire, which plays round the whale bone, குடைக்கம்பியின்காது. 7. The ear of a machine or vessel--as இராட்டினக்காது. 8. A small wedge to hold a tenon, handle or peg in its place, இறுக்கலாப்பு. காதுக்கிட்டால்முகத்துக்கழகு. Rings, &c., put in the ear are ornaments to the face. காதுங்காதும்வைத்தாற்போல். Deafness occasioned by a fall, blow, disease, &c. காதணி, s. An ear-ornament; of this there are sixteen kinds: viz., கடிப் பிணை, கம்பி, கன்னப்பூ, கன்னாவதங்கம், குணுக்கு, குண்டலம், குழை, கொட்டை, செவிமலர், தாட ங்கம், தூக்கம், தொங்கல், தோடு, மஞ்சிகை, வல் லிகை, வேடம். காதற--காதறுந்துபோக, inf. To have the perforated part of the ear cut or torn off. காதறுக்க, inf. To rend the ear by tearing off the ear-rings. 2. To cancel a bond, commonly by mutilating it. காதறுத்தகூலிகைமேலே. [prov.] A small kind of centipede, said to be very dangerous if it get into the ear, செவிப்பாம்பு. காதுமடல், s. The gristles of the ear, காதின் இதழ். காதுமந்தம், s. Dullness of hearing, காதடைப்பு. காதுமந்தன், s. A person dull of hearing. காதுமுருத்து, s. [prov.] The hard gristles of the ear. காதுவளர்க்க, inf. To promote the proper growth of the lobe of the ear for wearing jewels. காதுவிடாய், s. Weakness or lassitude in hearing, occasioned by hunger or sickness. காதுவெட்ட--காதுநறுக்க--காதுகிள்ள, inf. kuṉmam (p. 132) s. A disease, a chronic enlargement of the spleen; also, any glandular enlargement in the abdomen--as of the mesenteric gland, &c., causing indigestion, colic and great emaciation. cōṟu (p. 212) s. Boiled rice, சாதம். 2. Apex of the wild pine-apple resembling boiled rice; also a white spongy substance found in the palmyra, wild al&oe; &c, கற்றாழை முதலியவற்றின்சோறு. (c.) 3. The second lunar asterism. See பாணி. சோறுங்கூறையும்கொடுக்க. To give food and raiment. சோற்றாலெடுத்தசுவர். A wall of rice, food, &c., i. e. the body. வயிற்றுச்சோற்றுக்குவேலைசெய்ய. To set rice before one. 2. To board, feed. சோறுகொடுப்பிக்க, inf. To cause a bride to present boiled rice to the bridegroom, as an essential part of the marriage ceremony among some castes. சோறுகொல்லி, appel. n. A glutton, பெருந்தீனிக்காரன். 2. Green vitriol, அன்ன பேதி. சோறுபடைக்க--சோறுபோட, inf. To set rice on plates, leaves, &c., for eating. (c.) சோறுபொங்க, inf. To cook rice. 2. To boil over, bubble up. சோறுபொலிய, inf. [prov.] To swell or enlarge, as rice in boiling. சோறுவடிக்க, inf. To strain off rice. சோறூட்டல், v. noun. The ceremony of first feeding with rice, performed on an auspicious day. See அன்னப்பிராசனம். சோறூற, inf. [prov.] To be too much soaked, as rice in boiling over insufficient fire. சோற்றகப்பை, s. Ladle for rice, in distinction to that for curry. (c.) சோற்றலகு, s. A wicker strainer for boiled rice. (R.) சோற்றாலாத்தி, s. Boiled rice waved before a person, an idol, a married couple, a great person, &c., to remove the supposed fascination of unlucky eyes. (c.) சோற்றுக்கடன்--சோற்றுதவி, s. Duty or obligation to one for support. சோற்றுக்கத்தளை, s. A kind of fish. See கத்தலை. சோற்றுக்களை, s. Languor after eating. 2. Fainting through want of food. சோற்றுக்கற்றாழை, s. See தாழை. சோற்றுக்காரி, s. A woman who prepares food for one who pays her expenses. (c.) சோற்றுக்குடலை, s. [prov.] See குடலை. சோற்றுக்குவீங்கி, appel. n. A man greedy of food, who will eat any where. சோற்றுக்கூடை, s. A large basket in which rice is served up to a company. சோற்றுக்கை, s. The right hand as used in eating rice, &c.--oppos. to பீச்சைக் கை. (c.) சோற்றுக்கொடை, s. Giving boiled rice as alms to religious mendicants, being the first kind of bounty. சோற்றுச்சட்டி, s. An earthen pan for cooling boiled rice. சோற்றுத்துருத்தி, s. The body; (lit.) a leather bag of rice. (p.) 137)

tkkai (p. 221) s. A plug or roll put into a perforation of the ear to enlarge it, குதம் பை. 2. [prov.] A roll of cloth or paper used instead of a cork, அடைக்குந்தக்கை. (c.) 3. tṭi (p. 222) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To thicken as a liquid, be inspissated, to congeal, உறைய. 2. To cohere; to form as primitive, subtile matter, into atoms, atoms into moulds or bodies; to consolidate, to assume a tangible form, திரண்டு தடிக்க. 3. To swell as the flesh from a stroke, to form a wale, வீங்க. 4. To grow large, full, plump as the breasts, &c., to become stout as a person, பூரிக்க. 5. To delay, linger, to be protracted, தாமதிக்க. 6. To become heavier, to be aggravated or enhanced--as an accusation, அதிகரிக்க. 7. [in burlesque.] To enlarge--as in pregnancy, புடைக்க. 8. To thicken, harden, indurate as the skin by slight poison, the contact of a caterpillar, &c., கடியினாற் றடிக்க. 9. To be thick, stout, hard, stiff --as a board, &c., வைரப்பட. In this sense used only in some parts of the verb. தடிக்கக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To thicken by boiling. தடிக்கப்பூச, inf. To daub, smear or paint thickly. தடித்தஆள், s. A stout, thick person. தடித்தபால், s. Thick milk. தடித்தமை, s. Thick ink, or paint. நாக்குத்தடிக்க, inf. To grow stiff or rigid, as the tongue by chewing betel. காரியந்தடித்துப்போயிற்று. The affair has become more aggravated. 8) *

(சது.) 5. The badge-string of the sacerdotal, the royal and of some mechanical tribes, பூணூல். 6. A string tied round an image in a Roman Catholic Church, in token of a vow, பொருத்தனைநூல். 7. A wedding-badge, தாலிநூல். 8. Carpenter's or mason's line, எற்றுநூல்.--In combination it takes grammatical changes like நால். Of நூல் or sacred learning there are நூ three: 1. முதனூல், an original scientific work regarded as divine, the Vedas; 2. வழிநூல், a work derived from and agreeing with the original, being an enlargement, as the Vedanta; 3. சார்புநூல், a work following the original, secondary, but differing in some particulars; collateral writings, as the Adwitta. நூற்பலகல். A kind of அகவல் verse, commonly employed by lexicographers, சூத்திரப்பா. 2. Warp in weaving, தறியிற் பிணைக்கும்பா. நூற்பாவகவல், s. The நூற்பா verse. நூர்புலவர், s. [pl.] Persons of accomplished or distinguished learning. நூற்புறத்திணை, s. Proof from established authority; a term used by Beschi in Tonnool. நூற்புறனடை, s.
