Impossibility, unattainableness, கூடாமை. 5. Delicacy, சிறப்பு.--Note. As an adjective, மை is dropped before a consonant with a change of that, when required in combination, and அரு may be changed into அரிய with or without து, or the last vowel may be dropped, and the first lengthened as in ஆருயிர், precious life. அருங்கலைநாயகன், s. Buddha, the lord of eminent sciences, புத்தன். அருங்கலைவினோதன், s. one devoted to learning; one whose time is spent in cultivating the arts and sciences. அருங்கிடை, s. Extreme hunger from long abstinence, &c., பட்டிணி. அருங்கிடைகிடக்க, inf. To be in a starving condition. அருங்கேடன், s. One who is imperishable, who will always prosper. (குறள்.) 2. (c.) Rigid austerities. அருந்தவர், s. Ascetics. அருந்தூதன், s. A tormentor, one who inflicts pain, வேதனைசெய்வோன். அருமருந்து, s. Nectar, அமிர்தம். In classical works, this in the form அருமருந்தன்னபிள்ளை is contracted to அருமந்த, precious as nectar, as, அருமந்தபிள்ளை. A very dear child, அருமந்ததேர். A very costly chariot. அருமறை, s. The sacred Vedas. Ell. 145. 4. அருமறைக்கொடியோன், s. A name of Dronácharya, the military preceptor of the Pandavas and Kurus, because of the Vedic device on his banner. அருமைப்படுத்த, inf. To make scarce, hard, difficult. 2. To impart reluctantly, make much of. அரும்பண்டம், s. A rare article, choice wares, valuable commodity. அரும்பிணி, s. An incurable disease. (நாலடி.) [prov.] A girdle, waist-string, necklace, &c., so short as scarcely to be brought to meet, a string, rope, &c., so short as to be tied with difficulty, a bow-string so short as to be liable to break if brought up too far, any thing too little, too short, too narrow, &c., எட்டாப்பூட்டு. 2. Difficulty in settling a negotiation, agreement, &c., இணக்கக்கூடாமை. 3. Entanglement, ensnarement, மோசத்திலகப்படுகை. 4. Forced connection in language, clauses disconnected or not joined naturally, difficult or unnatural; construction, தொடர்ச்சி யின்மை. சொற்களையரும்பூட்டாய்த் தொடுத்துப்பேசினான். He spoke in an unconnected manner. அரும்பொருள், s. Excellent advice, hard doctrine, a rare or difficult meaning. 2. A choice or precious article. அருவினை, s. A great sin. அருவினைகளைந்து. A person of very respectable and dazzling appearance. ஆசாரப்பிழை, s. Ill-manners. 2. Want of cleanliness. ஆசாரப்புடவை, s. Silk cloth, or some other, worn when the daily rites are performed. The former is deemed the more sacred and not needing to be dipped in water for purification. Those unable to keep silk for the purpose, wear cotton cloths and dip them every time to purify them. ஆசாரவாசல்--ஆசாரவாயில், s. The outer hall in a king's court, where his subjects may assemble. 2. [prov.] To unfasten the noose of the string tied to the ox's neck, தும்பவிழ்க்க. கந்துமாற, inf. [prov.] To change an ox of a pair tied together, ஏரில்மாறிக்கட்ட. கந்துமாறிக்கட்ட, inf. To shift, to change sides, to use chicanery, to scheme --as in paying debts by borrowing of others, &c. கந்துமுரிக்க, inf. [prov.] To turn out of the course--as oxen treading corn, breaking the bounds. It is deemed very unlucky for men or animals to pass from the enclosure of the threshing floor except at the proper entrance. கந்துமுரித்துப்போட்டுப்போகிறான். He has deserted his company. பொலிக்கந்து, s. Chaff in the threshing floor after winnowing, containing some grain. புறக்கந்து, s. The extremities of an axle-tree. 2. To appear or gush out, as water in a newly dug well. தண்ணீர்குடித்தபாடம்--தண்ணீர்ப்பா டம், s. An expression used to denote intimate acquaintance. 2. A lesson well learnt. 3. A science well mastered. (c.) தண்ணீர்க்கண்டம், s. Accident by water. See கண்டம். தண்ணீர்கலசம்-தண்ணீர்க்குடம், s. A water-pot. தண்ணீர்க்காரன், s. (fem. தண்ணீர்க்காரி. vul. தண்ணீர்க்காரிச்சி.) A man who draws or brings water. தண்ணீர்க்கால், s. A water-course, a channel for water. தண்ணீர்தெளிக்க, inf. To sprinkle water for the purification of sheep, for sacrifice. 2. (fig.) To give one over to his own way. நான்அவனைத்தண்ணீர்தெளித்துவிட்டுவிட்டேன். I have left him to himself. தண்ணீர்த்தவனம்--தண்ணீர்விடாய், s. Thirst. தண்ணீர்த்துறை, s. The entrance to a tank, river, &c., where men or cattle go for water. தண்ணீர்பட்டபாடு, v. noun. Like water; i. e. profuse, plentiful, free. (c.) தண்ணீர்ப்பந்தல்--தண்ணீர்ச்சாலை, s. A shed where water, butter-milk, lemonade, &c., are furnished. தண்ணீர்ப்பிடி--தண்ணீர்ப்பிடிப்பு, v. noun. Being watery as food or fruits. 2. Containing water, as pustules. 3. Being suffused with watery humors, as the body. 4. The limit of the water in a tank. See சீர்ப்பிடி. தண்ணீர்ச்சாரை, s. A kind of ratsnake living in tanks, as நீர்ச்சாரை. தண்ணீர்ப்பகை, s. To give water to travellers from a water shed. 2. To pour water for a low caste person to drink, who is not allowed to touch the cup. தலைக்குத்தண்ணீர்வார்த்தல். Bathing a girl with appropriate ceremonies, on her becoming marriageable; done by aged matrons, not widows, who are not allowed to be present. தண்ணீரொத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. A repetition of the first word of a line, as ஆதிமடக்கு. 2. Grain given from the harvest, to a woman in care of a rest-house, which she ties up and carries away on her head. தலைமடங்க, inf. Destiny, fate, as supposed to be written in the head by Brahma, according to the actions of previous births, தலைவிதி. 2. Signature to a bond or instrument, inserted at the beginning. 3. The heading or title of a book. 4. The first or capital letter in a writing. தலையேறுதண்டம், s. [prov.] Punishment above what one is able to bear. 2. (fig.) Excessive trouble or labour; compulsory service, அநியாயதண்டம். தலையைக்கொடுக்க--தலைகொடுக்க, inf. To step forward in one's behalf, in a case of exigency. 2. To expose one's self to danger for another. தலையைச்சுற்றியெறிய, inf. To detest utterly; to reject with disgust, disdain and scorn. தலையைநடுக்க, inf. To feel dizziness, sickness, slight intoxication--as from betel, tobacco, spirits, &c. தலையோடு, s. The skull. தலைவணங்க, inf. To do homage. 2. To fall or bend down--as corn in the field.
