akngkārm (p. 1) s. Pride, self-consequence, கருவம். 2. One of the four intellectual powers, the energy which excites to action, அந்தக்கரணங்களிலொன்று. (See இந்தி ரியம்.) 3. Self-consciousness, individuality, regarding one's self as performing actions instead of the deity as operating within, நானெனுஞ்செருக்கு. 4. (p.) A medicine, a medicament that restores to life, a cordial, ஓர்மருந்து. 6. Final emancipation of the soul or eternal felicity according to Hindu philosophy, முத்தி. 7. The nectarine principle in the head or brain from which the silent, motionless devotee is supposed to obtain nutrition, support and enjoyment, when living without external food. அமுதபுட்பம், s. A creeping plant, சிறுகுறிஞ்சா, Periploca, L. அமுதப்பார்வை, s. A favorable or propitious look. as of a lady towards her admirer, குளிர்ந்தபார்வை. அமதமேந்தல், v. noun. Giving food to ascetics and other virtuous persons, guests, as one of the nine kinds of புண்ணியம், and of the sixteen உபசாரம். அமுதயோகம், s. [in astrology.] The auspicious conjunction of a certain day of the week, phase of the moon and lunar constellation. See யோகம். அமுதர், s. Celestials, வானோர். 2. Herdsmen, இடையர். (p.) அமுதவல்லி, s. A creeper, as சீந்தில். அமுதவெழுத்து, s. Letters deemed propitious and proper to begin a poem, or to be in other important places. They are the vowels, அ, இ, உ, எ, and the consonants, க், ச், த், ந், ப், ம், வ், or all the letters but the நஞ்செழுத்து. அமுதாசனர், s. The gods, as அ மிர்தாசனர். 26)

āṇvm (p. 38) s. Pride, arrogance, manliness, கருவம். 2. Self-importance, self-will, conceit of doing some thing one's self, instead of ascribing all transactions, to the deity; in which sense, it is one of the three evil principles or மலம், in which the soul is involved from eternity, and by which it is excited to the performance of moral actions and kept from union with the deity. These must be subjected and annihilated, for the soul's liberation, by the அருள் of the deity. It is used as a means of benefit to the soul, as the acid in fruit becomes a luscious juice, மும்மலத்தொன்று; [ex ஆள்.] 2. One of the thirty-two kinds of arsenic in its natural state, கோளகபாஷாணம். ஆணவப்பிணிப்பு, v. noun. The bondage of moral evil, original sin, ஆண வமலபந்தம். (p.) ஆணவமலம், s. One of the three kinds of மலம். ஆணவமறைப்பு, v. noun. The illusion or blindness in which the soul is held through the power of ஆணவம், மூல மலத்தடை. 20) *

āti (p. 38) s. Source, cause, primitiveness, beginning. மூலம். 2. Excellency, முத ன்மை. 3. The Supreme Being, கடவுள். 4. An independent sovereign, a supreme ruler, an emperor, இறைவன். 5. A master, proprietor or one to whom a right or duty is owing, எசமான். 6. The sun, சூரியன். 7. Running in a direct course, நேரோடுகை. 8. Antiquity, பழமை. 9. Siva, சிவன். 1. Vishnu, விட்டுணு. 11. Brahma, பிரமன். 12. Argha, அருகன். 13. Buddha, புத்தன். 14. Joined with a noun, it includes the thing mentioned and the rest of its series--as பிரமாதி. 15. A mode of time or measure in music, ஆதிதாளம். 16. (சது. for மாதி.) A circular course, மண்டலமாயோடுகை. (p.) ஆதிகடவுள், s. The primeval deity. ஆதிகாரணம், s. A primary cause. ஆதிக்கடுஞ்சாரி, s. Solder, a metallic cement said to consist of nine salts, நவச்சாரம். ஆதிக்கல்நாதம்-ஆதிக்கல்பேதம், s. A drug--green vitriol, sulphate of iron, அன்னபேதி. ஆதிக்குடி, s. Soap, சவுக்காரம். ஆதிக்குரு, s. Earth impregnated with soda, பூநீறு. ஆதிசாரம், s. One of the thirty-two kinds of architecture, சிற்பநூல்முப்பத்திரண் டிலொன்று. ஆதிசேஷன்--ஆதிசேடன், s. A fabulous serpent supposed to support the earth on his head--king of the serpents, அனந்தன். He is said to have existed prior to the creation of the world and to continue to exist after its destruction; [ex சேஷன், who remains.] ஆதிச்சனி, s. The tenth lunar mansion, மகநாள். (p.) ஆதித்தாய், s. The first mother-Eve. (Christian usage.) ஆதிநாதர், s. One of the nine Sidd'has. See சித்தர். (p.) ஆதிநாராயணன், s. Vishnu, விட் டுணு. 2. The diamond, வச்சிரக்கல். ஆதிநூல், s. I endeavored to save him but could not. என்னாலானமட்டுமுன்னையிரட்சிப்பேன். I will protect thee as far as lies in my power. இரட்சித்துவிட, inf. irākkatar (p. 50) --இராட்சதர், s. One of the two classes of foes to the Devas or genii, sometimes improperly called giants. They appear to be of various descriptions, being either powerful Titans in a preternatural form--as Ravana and others--or mischievous and cruel goblins, demons, vampires or fiends, haunting cemeteries, devouring human beings, &c., அரக்கர். Wils. p. 699.RAKSHASA. இராக்கதகணம், s. A set of demons --as Rakshasas one of the eighteen classes. இராக்கதமணம், s. See மணம். இராக்கதி, s. A female fiend. இராக்ஷதகிர்த்தியம், s. To be proud, self-conceited, vain, to be elated, puffed up, to exult in a feeling of self-importance, ஏமாக்க. 3. To sit erect, be erect, நிமிர்ந்திருக்க. என்றும்வீடடைந்தவரிறுமாப்ப. I give this for or instead of that. அவளுக்கவனீடல்ல. He is not a suitable match for her. ஈடழிய, inf. To suffer the loss of power, dignity, wealth, &c., to become poor, பெருமைகுன்ற. ஈடழிவு, v. noun. Loss of power, property, dignity, &c., சீர்கேடு. ஈடன், s. A strong, competent, wealthy man, பெருமையுடையோன். ஈடன்பாடஞ்சான். A wealthy man will not fear losses. ஈடாட, inf. To compete with another, நேர்நிற்க. 2. [prov.] To be loose--as a tooth, a nail, the spokes of a wheel, to joggle, உழல. ஈடாட்டம், v. noun. Competing or matching with another. 2. Pecuniary ability, the free use of money--as by a rich merchant, கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல். 3. Being loose--as a nail, &c., உழலுகை. ஈடுகட்ட--ஈடுபண்ண, inf. To give security, பிணைகொடுக்க. 2. To make amends, restitution, reprisals, &c., to identify, ஈடுசெய்ய. ஈடுகொடுக்க--ஈடுசெலுத்த, inf. To reward, give an equivalent, to content, பதிலளிக்க. 2. To bear, tolerate, endure, yield, &c., ஈடுகட்ட. அவனுக்கீடுகொடுக்கமுடியாது. It is impossible to give him satisfaction. வீடுபலக்கக்கட்டினாற்புயலுக்குமீடுகொடுக்கும். If the house be strongly built, it will endure the storm. அவனுக்கிவனீடுகொடுக்கமாட்டான். This person cannot compete with him. ஈடுபாடு, s. Loss and gain, நய நஷ்டம். 2. Substitution, ஒப்பு. ஈடேற, inf. To be emancipated from sin, births, &c., to obtain final happiness, உய்ய. 2. To be saved from ruin and be rendered secure, to rise from indigence to prosperity, to be completely rescued from distress, difficulty, danger, disease, &c., வாழ்வடைய. கன்னிகையீடேறிவிட்டாள். The girl has attained a marriage settlement. அந்தக்குடியீடேறிவிட்டது. That family is rescued from indigence, saved from ruin. &c. ஈடேற்ற, inf. To deliver, rescue, இரட்சிக்க. 2. To raise one from distress, indigence, &c. to the attainment of the desired good, to promote, to establish in good circumstances. வாழ்வடை யச்செய்ய. 3. To redeem, emancipate from births, &c., மீட்க. ஈடேற்றப்பட, inf. To be saved, delivered, rescued from ruin indigence, distress, &c., to be rendered secure against danger, &c., இரட்சிக்கப்பட. ஈடேற்றம், s. Final and eternal happiness, the liberation of the soul from the body and its exemption from further transmigrations, and translation to a permanent state of happiness, final emancipation, பேரின்பவாழ்வு. 2. Deliverance from a state of suffering, indigence, &c., உய்வு. 3. The marriage of a destitute girl under favorable auspices, கன்னிகையீடேற்றம். ஈட்டுக்கீடு, s. Like for like, retaliation, requital. கடையீடு, s. Ground the lowest in value and assessment. தலையீடு, s. A very fruitful soil, known to be such by its aspect. 6)
