To raise one from distress, indigence, &c. to the attainment of the desired good, to promote, to establish in good circumstances. வாழ்வடை யச்செய்ய. 3. To redeem, emancipate from births, &c., மீட்க. ஈடேற்றப்பட, inf. To be saved, delivered, rescued from ruin indigence, distress, &c., to be rendered secure against danger, &c., இரட்சிக்கப்பட. ஈடேற்றம், s. Final and eternal happiness, the liberation of the soul from the body and its exemption from further transmigrations, and translation to a permanent state of happiness, final emancipation, பேரின்பவாழ்வு. 2. Deliverance from a state of suffering, indigence, &c., உய்வு. 3. The marriage of a destitute girl under favorable auspices, கன்னிகையீடேற்றம். ஈட்டுக்கீடு, s. kṇkṇeṉl (p. 88) v. noun. Feeling hot as in fever, or from taking spirituous liquors, or walking; heat of weather, exposure to the sun, &c., அதிகமாய்ச்சுடுகை. 2. Burning fiercely and with a hollow roar, மிகவெரிகை. 3. Sounding as a bell, chiming, &c., sonorous voice, &c., ஒலிக் குறிப்பு. கணகணவென்றுகாந்துகிறது. The fire is too hot. நெருப்புக்கணகணென்றெரிகிறது. The fire burns fiercely. அவன்சரீரங்கணகணென்றுசுடுகிறது. He feels hot--as in slight fever, &c. கணகணப்பு, v. noun. Heat of body --as in slight fever of from walking, drinking strong liquor, exposure to the sun, &c., அதிகசூடு. 43)

One of a king's bodyguard, மெய்க்காப்பாளன். காவலாளர், s. Watchmen, sentinels, watchers, guards, காப்போர். காவலாளி, s. A keeper, a guard, காப் போன்.--Note. In Tinnevelly, this word is invariably used to signify a prisoner and not a watchman, which latter is called காவற்காரன். காவலிருக்க, inf. To be on guard, to keep watch, காவலாயிருக்க. 2. To wait or look, as for a person expected. காவலிலிருக்க, inf. To be in prison or captivity. காவலிலேபோட--காவலில்வைக்க, inf. To imprison. 2. To keep in the patrolhut till morning--as a person found straying during night. காவல்கட்டு, s. A strong guard. 2. Secure protection. 3. Rigid restraint. காவல்கட்டுப்பண்ண, inf. To set a strong guard. 2. To watch closely. 3. To keep young people, &c., in close restraint. 4. [prov.] To attend strictly to the diet of a sick person. காவல்காக்க, inf. To watch, guard, protect. 2. To be on guard, to act as sentries, watchmen, &c. 3. To defend the body by wearing armor, &c., or the head by oils, &c., against disease, which either has attacked the lower extremities, or indicates coma, &c. காவல்செய்ய, inf. To protect, to defend. 2. [prov.] To pass a straw-rope over a heap of corn in the field, or make with it diagrams on the ground, &c., to defend the grain from demons. 3. To place an image of Ganesa (being a handful of moist cow-dung) on the top of a heap of corn before winnowing, as a security from demons.--Note. If it is measured, it is deemed secure against their attack. காவல்பண்ண, inf. To protect, defend, take care of, watch over. 2. To nourish, cherish, provide for. 3. To imprison, to keep under guard, to confine. காவல்மாற, inf. To be relived, changed, &c.--as sentinels or a watch. காவல்மாற்ற, inf. To relieve guard, change watchmen, sentinels, &c. காவல்முறை, s. Turns in watching. காவல்மேரை, s. Share of grain given to the watchman of a village from the thrashing floor. காவல்விட, inf. To release from watching, guarding, &c. காவற்கடவுள்--காவற்பெருமான், s. Vishnu, as the preserver of the world, விஷ்ணு. காவற்கட்டு, s. [prov.] A bundle of paddy sheaves for the watchman. காவற்கட்டை, s. [prov.] A fire-brand kept burning to ward off the female demon கொற்றி from a woman in child-birth, when exposure is greater than at other times. 2. A clump of wood kept burning through the night near a patrol-hut. காவற்கப்பல், s. A reconnoitring vessel, a guard-ship. காவற்காடு, s. A jungle or forest defence, காட்டாண். 2. A reserved forest. காவற்காரர், s. Watchmen, sentinels, a patrol, காப்போர். காவற்கூடம்--காவற்சாலை--காவல்ஸ்த லம், s. A guard-room; a prison-house. காவற்புரி, s. [prov.] A straw-rope thrown over the heap of corn in the field to defend it from demons. அருங்காவல், s. A very strict or powerful guard. தலைக்காவல், s. The main guard. தூக்கிரிக்காவல், s. An overseer of a village. மெல்லுயிர்க்குங்காவல், s. A support or cordial to the languishing mind. 28)

A sacrificial grass, அறுகு. 5. Beauty, அழ கு. 6. Time, காலம். 7. An Indian hour of twenty-four minutes, நாழிகை. 8. (Beschi.) a kind of ode, சிந்து. மருந்தெண்ணைப்பதம், s. The stage when a medicinal oil is to be taken from the fire. 2. (fig.) Such a delicate state of the system as renders a person liable to disease from the least exposure. 3. (fig.) Excessive irritability of temper, extreme of sensibility.--Note. There are five degrees of inspissation: 1. குழம்புப்பதம், a thickened state; 2. கடுகுப்பதம், partial fluidity; 3. மந்தபதம், oily consistency; 4. மெழுகுபதம், waxy state; 5. முறுகுபதம், dryness. There are two states of heat in preparing oils, metals, &.c.: காயும்பதம், slight heat, for boiling the juices of plants; 2. வேல்பதம், full heat for melting gold, silver and other metals. பதக்கேடு, v. noun. Past the right stage, over-ripe, over-boiled, decayed, rotten. பதக்கேடானசரீரம். Debility of the system, often through age. பதத்துக்குக்காய்ச்ச--பதமாகக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To heat or boil medical oil, food, &c., to the proper degree. பதத்துக்குவடிக்க--பதத்தில்வடிக்க, inf. To strain a medical oil, &c., at the right stage of boiling. பதநீர், s. [com. பதனி.] Sweet toddy drawn in a pot lined with chunam To prevent fermentation. பதந்தப்ப, inf. To miss or pass the proper stage of boiling rice or medical oil, or in the ripening of fruits. 2. To pass the proper time for doing a thing. எகுபதந்தப்பிப்போயிற்று. The steel is not well tempered. பதபாகம், s. Gentleness, mildness, &c. பதப்பட, inf. [v. noun. பதப்பாடு.] To be seasoned, tempered, fitted, adapted, trained, பக்குவமாக. 2. To grow ripe, பழுக்க. பல்லுக்குப்பதப்பட்டது. It is adapted to the teeth--as well boiled for an old man, &c. பதப்படுத்த, inf. To season, temper, tan, mould, adapt, train. பதமழிவு, v. noun. Over-ripeness. See பதனழிவு. பதமறிய, inf. To know the right stage, temperature or consistency. பதமாயிருக்க, inf. To strain the water from boiled rice that it may be properly dry. பதமெடுக்க--பதம்பிடிக்க, inf. To hit on the right stage, as in boiling rice, oil, &c. பதம்பண்ண, inf. To season, to temper, to mould; to tan. பதம்பாட, inf. To compose a பதம் ode. பதம்பார்க்க, inf. To try the taste, consistency, &c., of boiling rice, to try a fruit, by feeling, smelling, or cutting. &c. 2. To hesitate and not enter on a business promptly. 2. puṭam (p. 322) s. Refining metals, or sublimating medicines by fire, or sometimes by placing them in the sun, or among grain, உலோகங்களையும், மருந்துகளையுஞ்சுத்திசெய் கை. 2. [fig.] The refining or sublimating vessel as placed in the fire. W. p. 539. PUT'A. 3. (Sa. Sp'hut'a.) True daily motion of a heavenly body ascertained by calculation. புடபுத்தி. 4. In sublimating medicines different tests are given according to the number of வறட்டி, or pieces of dried cowdung used for the fire; as கா டைப்புடம், the quail-test with one piece; கவுதாரிப்புடம், the partridge, with three; குக் குடபுடம், the fowl, with ten; வராகபுடம், the hog-test with twenty, or the greater; கன புடம், with, fifty; கசபுடம், the elephant-test with a hundred, or, as most say, one thousand, when all will be finished. There are also சூரியபுடம், exposure to the sun; தானிய புடம், purification of oils by placing them in grain; பூமிபுடம், or பூடம், of salts by placing them in the earth, in bottles. புடமிட--புடம்போட,புடம்வைக்க, inf. To refine metals, or sublimate medicines. புடவிக்கேபம்--புடவிட்சேபம்--சுத்தவிக் கேபம்--சுத்தவிட்சேபம், s. [also புடநதி.] The true celestial latitude of a heavenly body. 2.
