One of the eight கணம், (see கணம்,) a measure in poetry of three அசை, two dissyllabic, and one monosyllabic--as கரு விளங்காய். ஆகாசகமனம்--ஆகாயகமனம், s. Passing through the air. 2. An art supposed to be acquired by the power of incantations and magical medicaments--one of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். ஆகாசகருடன்--ஆகாயகருடன், s. A creeper, கொல்லங்கோவை, Bryonia epigea. ஆகாசகரை--ஆகாசக்கரைக்கட்டு-ஆகாசபாலம், s. A fancy, chimera, deception, மனோராச்சியம். ஆகாசகாமி--ஆகாயகாமி, s. One of the three kinds of horses--that which has power to walk through the air. ஆகாசக்கத்தரி--ஆகாயக்கத்தரி-ஆகாயவழுதுணை, s. A plant yielding an edible fruit, Hibiscus longifolius, L. ஆகாசக்கல் s. An atom from the airy regions which it is supposed strikes the eye, which does not recover till the same hour next day, ஆகாசத்திற் பறக்குமணு. ஆகாசத்தாமரை, s. A water plant, Pistia stratiotes, the roots of which float in the water, அந்தரத்தாமரை. 2. (fig.) An aerial or sky-lotus; i. e. a fanciful or ideal thing, absurdity, impossibility, பொய். ஆகாசபட்சி, s. The sky-lark, சா தகப்புள். ஆகாசமண்டலம், s. The aerial regions, வானமண்டலம். Wils. p. 13. AKASHAMANDALA. 2. A kind of dancing, ஓர்கூத்து. ஆகாசமயம், s. Emptiness, that which is void of substance. ஆகாசமார்க்கம், s. The aerial way as passed by gods, by the planets, and other heavenly bodies regarded as gods; and by men who by austerities, incantations, magical rites, &c. have acquired superhuman powers. ஆகாசவல்லி, s. A running plant, ஓர்கொடி, Menyanthes cristata. (Roxb.) ஆகாசவாசிகள், s. The inhabitants of the ethereal regions, ஓர்தேவ கணம்--One of the eighteen கணம். ஆகாசவாணி--ஆகாயவாணி, s. A voice from heaven, an oracle delivered by an invisible being, அசரீரிவாக்கு; [ex வாணி, speech.] Wils. p. 13. AKASHAVAN'I. ஆகாயப்பிரவேசம், s. The power of self-concealment, in the ether of the atmosphere, by means of magical spells --one of the sixty-four கலைஞானம், which see. 13)

iracam (p. 48) s. Flavor, relish; what is tasteful, agreeable, palatable, delicious; taste in general, good or bad--also the six flavors. (See சுவை.) 2. Sweetness, இனிமை. 3. Sweet juice of fruits, &c., vegetable juice in general, சாறு. 4. Mercury, quicksilver, hydrargyrum, பாதரசம். 5. (p.) One of the juices of the body, சத்ததாதுவினொன்று. (See தாது.) It corresponds more with chyle than any other, but probably it is fanciful. 6. Pepper-water made of several ingredients, மிளகுநீர். 7. [in rhetoric.] The passions or emotions of the mind expressed by gesture, exhibited in action and transferred to poetry, வீரமுதலியவெண்சுவை. Of these eight are given; viz.: 1. வீரம் or வீரியம், courage. 2. அச்சம், பயம், or பயானகம், fear, terror. 3. இழிப்பு, விபற்சம், குற்சை, அருவரு ப்பு, abominating, loathing at or disgusting. 4. வியப்பு or அற்புதம், wonder, surprise, astonishment. 5. காமம், சிங்காரம், சிருங்காரம், love, sexual love. 6. அவலம் or கருணை, acute sensibility, weakness, tenderness, mercy, pity, clemency. 7. உருத்திரம், கோ பம், இரௌத்திரம், பெருங்கோபம், warlike fury, wrath, displeasure, rage. 8. நகை, பெரு நகை or ஆசியம், laughter, mirth, risibility, great or intense laughter, laughing in contempt. By some, சாந்தம், tranquillity, equanimity, peace, abstraction or the stoicism of the ascetics; and by others வற்சலம், parental tenderness are given as a ninth meaning; இரசம் is added at pleasure with the loss in some cases of its initial-as வீராசம், இழிப்பிரசம், &c. Wils. p. 697. RASA. இரசகந்தாயம், s. Tribute, the fatness of the earth. இரசகந்தாயமாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak pleasingly. இரசகருப்பூரம், s. Muriate of mercury, ஓர்மருந்து. இரசகுண்டு, s. [prop. இரசக்குண் டு.] A globular glass filled with mercury as a decoration at weddings, &c., also as a charm. இரசகுளிகை--இரசமாத்திரை, s. A quick-silver pill employed in medicine, இரசத்தினாற்செய்தமாத்திரை. 2. [in alchemy.] A pill feigned to be used by a class of persons called சித்தர், now in the world of Indra, who thereby perform supernatural actions--as கமனஞ்செய்கை, or passing through the air to any desired place, சித்தர்குளிகை. இரசக்கட்டு, s. Condensed mercury, சூதக்கட்டு. இரசக்கிணறு--இரசக்குழி, s. A pit or mine where quick-silver is obtained. இரசக்குடுக்கை, s. A little bottle of mercury. இரசசிந்தூரம், s. Red precipitate of mercury. இரசஞ்சுத்திபண்ண, inf. To purify quick-silver. இரசதாது, s. Quick-silver, சூதம். Wils. p. 698. RASAD'HATU. இரசதாளி, s. A species of plantain, கப்பல்வாழை. இரசத்தைக்கட்டிப்புடமிட, inf. To reduce mercury by decoction. இரசத்தைப்பஸ்மமாக்க, inf. To reduce mercury into powder. இரசநாதம், s. Quick-silver, இர சம். Wils. p. 698. RASANATHA. இரசபஸ்பம்--இரசபஸ்மம்--இரச பற்பம், s. Mercury reduced to white powder, a kind of muriate of mercury or calcinated mercury, சூதபஸ்பம். Wils. p. 698. RASAB'HASMAN. இரசபாஷாணம், s. A kind of prepared arsenic. இரசப்பிரீதி--இரசமாதா, s. One of the hundred-and-twenty kinds of arsenic in its natural state. இரசமணி, s. Hard globules of mercury prepared by incantations, &c., and worn as an amulet in order to prevent evil, cure diseases, to promote success in undertakings, &c. இரசமுறிக்க, inf. To prepare mercury for medicine. 2. To carry mercury off from the body. இரசலிங்கம், s. Vermilion, சாதி லிங்கம். 2. A case of mercury for a linga. இரசவாதம்--இரசவித்தை, s. Alchemy--one of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். இரசவாதம்பண்ண, inf. To practise the art of alchemy. இரசவாதி, s. An alchemist. இரசவாழை--இரதவாழை, s. [improp. இதரைவாழை.] A species of plantain, பேயன்வாழை. இரசவைப்பு, s. Any preparation from mercury--as a muriate, sulphate, &c., an amalgam. இரசனை, s. kuẕu (p. 129) s. Class, society, band; company of the same trade, profession, &c., கூட்டம். 2. A lady's female retinue or companions; a company of females, மாதர்கூட்டம். 3. Flock, herd, swarm, shoal, ஆடுமாடுமுதலியவ ற்றின்கூட்டம். 4. (Sans. Ghusha.) Wit, ingenuity; witty expressions, fanciful or shrewd intimations, விரகு. --Note. In Jaffna, this word is sometimes used for கொழு--as in குழுக்கடா, குழுக்காலி, &c. குழுவன், s. An attendant on a fowler, குறவனின்பாங்கன், (See குளுவன்.) 2. A witty person, விரகுடையவன். குழுவிட, inf. (குற). கோட்காரன்--கோட்சொல்லி, s. A talebearer, a slanderer, an informer, a divulger. கோட்கூறு, s. [in astrol.] A division of the rising sign into thirty parts, being the number of its degrees. (See இலக்கி னம்.) 2. Good or evil from the influence of the planets, கிரகங்களின்கோளாறு. கோட்சொல்ல, inf. To calumniate, inform against. 2. To act the part of a tale-bearer, to slander, to divulge secrets injuriously. கோளன், s. A tale-bearer, கோளுரைப் போன். கோள்குண்டணி, s. Tale-bearing and calumny. (c.) கோள்முடிய, inf. [prov.] To fabricate or tell tales; to enrage another's mind by slanderous reports. காணுங்கோள், s. The visible planets. See கிரகம். கரந்துறைகோள், s. A poem in the form of intertwined snakes, &c. சித்திரக்காரன், s. A carver, painter. சித்திரகூடம், s. An ornamented or painted room, or hall with pictures, --as சித்திரசாலை.--Note. This term is applied to the temple at Chillumbram, and a mountain in Bundelcund where Rama abode in his exile. சித்திரக்குள்ளன், s. A cunning or shrewd dwarfish person. (c.) சித்திரங்கொத்த--சித்திரம்வெட்ட, inf. To carve, sculpture, grave, &c., on a plain surface. சித்திரசொரூபம், s. An image, an idol, a carved statue, a picture. சித்திரதீபம், s. A painted candle or taper. சித்திரதீபம்போலிருந்து தியானிக்கிறான். He sits meditating, motionless as a painted taper. சித்திரத்தையல், s. Fancy needle work. 2. As சித்திரப்பாவை. சித்திரத்தேர், s. An ornamented car. சித்திரந்தீர--சித்திரந்தீட்ட, inf. To carve or engrave any figures on wood or stone. சித்திரப்படம், s. A picture. 2. (p.) Variegated, painted or printed cloth, எழுத் துப்புடவை. சித்திரப்படாம், s. Veriegated, painted cloth. 2. A book of pictures, folds of paintings for amusement. (p.) சித்திரப்பதிமை--சித்திரப்பதுமை, s. A doll, statue, a puppet. சித்திரப்பா, s. As சித்திரகவி. சித்திரப்பாவை, s. A portrait or picture of a person or persons, real or imaginary, a carved figure. (நன்.) சித்திரப்பிரதிமை, s. A picture, a portrait. சித்திரப்பூம்பட்டாடை, s. Flowered silk cloth. (c.) சித்திரப்பேச்சு, s. Artful speech, cunning, jesting shrewdness. சித்திரமண்டபம்--சித்திரச்சாலை, s. A painted chamber or hall. சித்திரமெழுத, inf. To draw a picture, to paint, to sketch. (c.) சித்திரவெழுத்து, s. Elegant, nice, beautiful writing; caligraphy. 2. Variegated or fancy painting. 3. An anagram, as ஞிமிறு for மிஞிறு. சித்திரரேகை, s. Ornamental lines drawn on the body of a person. 2. One of the lines in the hand. 3. The wife of Kuvéra, குபேரன்மனைவி. சித்திரர்--சித்திரக்காரர், s. Fancy painters, portrait painters, limners, embroiderers. 2. Artizans, carvers, sculptors, engravers, சிற்பர். 3. Carpenters, தச்சர். சித்திரவதை--சித்திராக்கினை, s. Cutting and slashing in battle, prolonged butchery, cutting off member after member. 2. Ingenious and varied torture in inflicting death. (c.) சித்திரவித்தாரன், s. One artful, clever, or dexterous; one fluent in speech. (p.) சித்திரவித்தை, s. The art of fancypainting, sculpture, carving, engraving, &c. சித்திரவேலைக்காரர், s. Any fancyworkers, imitators of nature--as flower makers, artizans, sculptors, engravers. 2. Fancy-painters. (c.) சித்திரவேளாகொல்லி, s. A mode of music, a fine melody, கொல்லித்திறத்தினொ ன்று. tṟ (p. 230) . A particle for தன்; the ன் is changed as தற். Sa. தற்காக்க, inf. To preserve, to protect, chiefly as the deity or other superior. இரட்சிக்க. 2. To take care of one's self, to be cautious of dangers, to maintain fidelity to a husband, தன்னைக்காக்க. தற்காவல், s. Self-protection, selfcaution. தற்கிழமை, s. [in gram.] The thing possessed, or closely connected with the possession--oppos. to பிறிதின்கிழமை See கிழமை. தற்குணம், s. Peculiar nature or quality. தற்குறி--தற்குறிப்பு, s. One of the thirtyfive rhetorical figures, a fanciful kind of metaphor--as the trees, flourishing after a rain, extend, as it were, their arms to return fruits to the clouds. ஓரலங்காரம். தற்குறைவு, s. Deficiency in a stock or quantity without any apparent cause. தற்கொலை, s. Suicide. (c.) தற்சாட்சி, s. Self-evidence, மனச்சாட் சி. 2. The universal soul. or deity inspiriing all creatures, பரமாத்துமா. தற்சிவம், s. Absolute deity, the selfexistent, ஈச்சுரன். தற்சினேகம், s. Self-love, தன்னைநேசிக் கும்நேசம். தற்சொரூபங்காட்ட, inf. To exhibit himself in his true nature as the deity; i. e. not in human or other form. 2. To display one's power, capacity, true characteristics, சுயதன்மைகாட்ட. தற்சொரூபம், s. One's own peculiar nature or form of existence, சுயரூபம்; used chiefly of the deity. தற்சுட்டு, s. self-reference, தன்னைச் சுட்டுகை. தற்சுந்தரம், s. Self-possession, inherent attribute as peculiar to the deity. தற்சுதந்தரஅறிவு, s. Intuitive knowledge. தற்செயல், s. Providential, without any apparent cause, contingent, தெய்வச் செயல். 2. An accident. (c.) தற்செய்ய, v. n. inf. [prov.] To produce its own natural effects, to prosper by providence, இயல. 2. To be advantageous, favorable, profitable, to issue successfully, பலிக்க. வியாபாரம்அவனுக்குத்தற்செய்யவில்லை. Trade does not prosper with him. தற்செல்வம், s. Strength, power, force, வலி. (சது.) 2. One's own property. தற்பாடி, appel. n. A lark, வானம் பாடி. (R.) தற்புகழ்ச்சி, s. Self-praise, self-applause, self-complacency. தற்புணர்ச்சி, v. noun. Self-pollution, onanism, சுயபுணர்ச்சி. தற்பொழிவு, v. noun. Self-interest. தற்போதம், s. Self-knowledge, knowledge of the soul and deity, தன்னையுங் கடவுளையும் அறியுமறிவு. 2.
