Some reckon the following four kinds; viz.: 1. தன்பொருட் டனுமானம். 2. பிறர்பொருட்டனுமானம். 3. அன் னுவயவனுமானம். 4. வெதிரேகவனுமானம். The relations of one family. ஒருகுடித்தமர், s. Persons of the same family, near relatives--commonly on the paternal side, தாயத்தார். ஒருகூட்டு, s. A partial fast during which one meal only is taken in the day, on Sunday in reference to the sun, by persons with diseased eyes; on Monday to Siva to cure diseases generally, &c., ஒருபொழுதுண்டல். ஒருசந்திப்பானையைநாயறியுமா. Can a dog distinguish a sacred vessel? ஒருசந்தியிருக்க, inf. To make but one meal a day. ஒருசாயல், s. Being alike, ஒருவி தம். 2. Singularity, அபூர்வம். ஒருசாயலாயிருக்க, inf. To be of the same likeness. ஒருசாய்வு, v. noun. A leaning, of one party, ஒருபட்சம். 2. [prov.] At once, altogether, ஒருமிக்க. 3. Without intermisson, continuously, இடைவிடாமை. ஒருசார்--ஒருசார்பு, s. Absoluteness, positiveness, indispensableness, by all means, நிச்சயம். 2. One side of a case or question, favor to one party where two are concerned, ஒருசார்வு. ஒருதலையாகச்சொல்லுதல். Speaking positively. 2. Giving partial judgment. ஒருதலையாய்ச்சேருதல். All holding to one point steadfastly. இவ்விகாரமொருதலையன்று. This grammatical change is not absolute. ஒருதலைக்காமம், s. Love on one side not yet reciprocated, love-intrigue, கைக்கிளை. ஒருதலைதுணிதல், v. noun. [in literature.] An author's choice or decision between two different sentiments found in the writings of others, 32--உத்தியி லொன்று. ஒருதலைநோவு--ஒருதலைவலி, s. Pain on one side of the head. ஒருதலைப்பாக்கு, s. [prov.] An imperfect arecanut, defective on one side. ஒருதலைவழக்கு--ஒருதலைநியாயம், s. Partiality in giving judgment, statements, descriptions, &c., leaning to one side or party, an ex-party statement. ஒருதலைவழக்குநூலினுஞ்செம்மை. The statement made by only one party in a suit is straighter than a line; i. e. one tale is good till another is told. ஒருதன்மை, s. Being of one and the same kind, ஒருவிதம். 2. Incomparableness, ஒப்பற்றதன்மை. 3. Unchangeableness, மாறாமை. ஒருதாரை, s. One edge. 2. adv. [prov.] At once, altogether, without interruption, ஒருமிக்க. ஒருதாரைக்கத்தி, s. One edged sword. ஒருத்தன், s. (fem. ஒருத்தி.) One person, one man, one only, denoting speciality, either good or bad. ஒருத்தருமில்லை. There is nobody. ஒருத்தரும்வரவில்லை. No one is come. ஒருத்தரொருத்தராய். One person at a time, singly. ஒருத்தரோடொருத்தர். One with another. ஒருத்தனுமப்படிச்செய்யான். No one will ever do so. தேவரீரொருத்தரேகருத்தர். Thou only art the Lord. அவனொருத்தன்வந்தான். He only is come. 2. That fellow is come. ஒருநெல்லுப்பெருவெள்ளை, s. [prov.] A kind of rice, ஓர்வகைநெல். ஒருநேரம், s. An unseasonable time. இவனிராத்திரியொருநேரத்தில்என்வீட்டுக்குவந் தான். He came last night to my house at an unseasonable hour. ஒருபடி, adv. Tolerably, ordinarily, ஒருவாறு. 2. In some degree, to some extent, ஒருவிதம். ஒருபடிசெய்துமுடித்தார்கள். They have done it, finished it, &c. with great labor. 2. They have done it defectively, exceptionably, not thoroughly. ஒருபடித்தாய். So and so, tolerably. ஒருபடியாக, inf. [used as an adverb.] In some sense, manner, degree, partly. 2. Tolerably, passably, in some way or other. 3. With great pains, with difficulty--as in escaping, &c. ஒருபவம், s. [as ஒருபிறப்பு.] One birth. ஒருபார்வை, s. Steadfast look, directing the eyes to one object, ஒருநோ க்கம். ஒருபாவொருபஃது. s. A பிரபந்தம் or poem of ten verses. ஒருபிடி, s. Firm determination, உறுதி. 2. Firm trust or dependence, ஒரேபற்று. 3. Stubbornness, persistence or perseverance, பிடிவாதம். ஒருபிரகாரம், adv. After a fashion, in a certain degree, to some extent. உன்முகமொருபிரகாரமாகத்தோன்றுகிறது. Your countenance appears strange. அவனொருபிரகாரமானவன். He is a singular kind of man. ஒருபுடை, s. In some respects, partly, to some extent. ஒருபுடைசெல்லல்--ஒருபுடைசே றல், v. noun. Going on one side, ஒருபக்க மாய்ப்போதல். ஒருபுடையொப்புமை, v. noun. Having an imperfect analogy. ஒருபொருட்டீவகம், [in rhetoric.] An ellipsis by which one word qualifies, or is qualified by a succession of dependent words, ஓரலங்காரம். ஒருபொருட்பன்மொழி, s. [in grammar.] An allowed tautology, மீமி சை--as நாகிளவண்டு, a young beetle; புனிற் றிளங்கன்று, a young calf. ஒருபொருள், s. One substance or being, i. e. God, கடவுள். ஒருபொழுது, s. One time, ஒரு காலம். 2. Eating once a day, ஒருசந்தி. ஒருபொழுதிப்படி ஒருபொழுதப்படி. In one view it is thus, in another it is not so. ஒருபொழுதுசாப்பிடுதல். Taking but one meal a day. ஒருபோகு, s. [in prosody.] A member of a certain verse, கொச்சகக்கலிப்பாவி னுளொன்று. ஒருபோக்கு, s. The same manner, ஒருவிதம். 2. v. noun. Going at one time, ஒருமுறைபோகுதல். ஒருபோக்காய்ப்போக, inf. Close application, concentration of the mental powers, மனமொன்றுபடுகை. ஒருமட்டம்--ஒருமட்டு, s. Equality in size, qualifications, &c., ஓரளபு. ஒருமரம், s. One tree. 2. (p.) The அழிஞ்சில் tree. (திவா.) ஒருமனப்பட, inf. To be united, unanimous, harmonious, ஏகமனமாக. 2. To apply the mind intensely, to be deeply engaged in the pursuit of an object, மனதையொன்றிலேசெலுத்த. 3. To speak unanimously. ஒருமுகமாய்ப்போக, inf. To proceed in one direction. ஒருமுறை, s. One form, method. 2. One time, once. ஒருலாகை--ஒருவகை--ஒருவிதம், s. One kind. ஒருவகையாயிருக்கிறான். He is dispirited, dejected. 2. He is indisposed, out of health. ஒருவகையாய்ப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks in a peculiar way, unseemly or unfriendly, out of the way. ஒருவிதமாயிருக்க, inf. To be indifferent. ஒருவந்தம், s. Intentness of mind on an object, inclination, concentration of the powers of the soul, ஒற்றுமை. 2. A place of retirement or seclusion, தனித் திருக்குமிடம். 3. Connection, unity, relation, combination, சம்பந்தம். ஊக்கமொருவந்தங்கைத்துடையார். They who are intensely energetic. (குறள்.) ஒருவயிற்போலியுவமை, s. [in rhetoric.] உவமையணியிலொன்று. ஒருவழிப்படுதல், v. noun. Having the mind constantly directed to one point, மனமொருநெறிப்படல். 2. Being unanimous, united in the same object or pursuit, especially in divine things, ஒன் றுபடல். ஒருவன், s. One person, one man, ஒருத்தன். ஒருவர்க்காகவொருவர். One for, or in behalf of another. ஒருவர்க்கொருவர். One with another. ஒருவிசை, s. One time, once. ஒருவியாழவட்டம், s. A revolution of Jupiter round the sun; i. e. twelve years. ஒருவினைச்சிலேஷை, [in rhetoric.] A figure in which the verb conveys two different meanings, சிலேஷையணியிலொன் று--as அம்பொற்பணைமுகத்துத் திண்கோட்டணி நாகம்--வம்புற்றவோடைமலர்ந்திலங்க, உம்பர்-நவம்புரியுமாநதியுநாண்மதியுநண்ணத்--தவம்புரி வார்க்கின்பந்தரும். ஒருவேலைக்கிருவேலை, s. Complete error. (c.) சுத்தப்பொய், s. A downright lie. (c.) சுத்தமத்தளம், s. A superior kind of மத்தளம். சுத்தமனம், s. A frank, sincere mind, கபடமின்மை. 2. A pure mind. சுத்தமாயை, s. That which is entirely white. (c.) சுத்தன், s. A pure person, a sincere person, பரிசுத்தன். (c.) 2. One ripe for liberation from births, a soul in the third, or highest stage, next to absorption, நின்மலன். 3. Siva, அரன். 4. Brahma, ஐயன். 5. Argha, அருகன். 6. Vishnu, அரி. கைச்சுத்தம், s. Cleanness of hands or freedom from bribery. (c.) மெய்ச்சுத்தம், s. Cleanliness of body. (c.) மனச்சுத்தம், s. Mental purity. (c.) வாய்ச்சுத்தம், s. Veracity, or cleanness of mouth. Duration of an eclipse in Nalikas, &c., கிரகணகாலம். திதிநிச்சயம்--திதிநியாதம், s. The determining of an appropriate tithi for any particular ceremony. திதித்திரயம், s. The lunar days occurring in the same day of twenty-four hours. திதித்துவம், s. A calendar which marks all the fasts, religious observance. &c., ceremonies prescribed on certain days of the year. திதித்துவயம், s. The occurrence of two lithis on one solar day in each of which ceremonies for the dead may be performed. திதியர்த்தம், s. Half of the duration of an eclipse. திதிவிரதம், s. tirumāl (p. 240) s. Vishnu, as lord of illusion, in the universe, விட்டுணு; [ex மால், illusion.] திருமாலவதாரம், 1. Ten incarnations of Vishnu. 1. Matsya, மச்சம், a fish assumed to kill சோமுகன், an Asura who had stolen the Vedas and hidden them in the sea. 2. Kurma, கூர்மம். tortoise, assumed to support Mount Mandara, used as a churning stick in churning the sea of milk to obtain Amrita, or nectar. 3. Varáha, வராகம், a boar, assumed to open and spread out the earth which இரணியாக்கன் had rolled up, as a scroll, and sunk in the ocean; and to kill him. 4. Narasingha, நரசிங்கம், manlion, assumed to destroy இரணியகசிபன், the younger brother of இரணியாக்கன், who, to avenge the death of his brother, had abolished the worship of Vishnu.--Note. These four were assumed without parents. 5. Váhmana, வாமனம், the dwarf born of காசிபன் and அதிதி to overcome மாபலி by deceit, coming to him as a beggar. 6. Parasurama, பரசுராமன், or the axe bearing Rama, born of சமதக்கினி and இரேணுகை to kill the Kshtriyas who oppressed the brahmans. 7. Ramachandra, இராமன், king of Ayodhya, born of தசரதன் and கோசலை, to kill Ravana, king of Lanka, and other Rakshasas. 8. Balab'hadra, பலபத் திரன், half brother of krishna; his father's name was வசுதேவன், and he had two mothers, தேவகி and உரோகணி. He come to destroy பிரலம்பன் and his Rakshasas. 9. Krishna, கண்ணன், son of வசு தேவன் and தேவகி, came to excite the wars of the Bharata, and to relieve the earth of its over-burdened population. 1. The horse, கற்கி, yet future, and for the purpose of destroying the universe.--Note. The poet Jayadeva places Krishna as the eighth and makes the ninth, Buddha. Another class of fifteen incarnations of Vishnu is given. 1. சனகன், Sanaka. 2. சனந்தனன், Sanandana. 3. சனாதன், Sanáta. 4. சனற்குமாரன், Sanatkumara. Rishis regarded as representatives of Brahma and celebrated in the Bagavata. 5. நரநாராயணன், Naranarayana, a great personage mentioned in the Maha B'harata. 6. கபிலன், Capila, founder of the Sank'hya philosophy. 7. இடபன், Vrishab'ha-Yogi, the first of the twenty-four Jaina saints. 8. நாரதன், Nárada,, inventor of the lute, messenger of the gods, and first of the ten principal Munis. 9. அயக்கிரீவன் ((lit.) the horse-headed), Hayagriva, of the Maha Bharata, to be distinguished from the Asura of the same name. 1. தத்தாத்திரேயன், Dattatreya, mentioned in Bagavata. 11. மோகினி, Mohini, a fascinating female. (See மோ கினி.) 12. யாகபதி, Yágapati, the lord of sacrifices, always receiving the first of the offerings. 13. வியாதன், Vyasa, son of Parásara, arranger of the Vedas. 14. தன்வந்தரி, D'hanvantari, a physician of the gods. (See தன்வந்தரி.) 15. பௌத் தன், Budha, the head of the Buddhist system; by some considered the ninth principal Avatar. திருமாலாயுதம், 5, s. The five weapons of Vishnu. 1. சங்கம் or பாஞ்சசன்னியம், chank; 2. சக்கரம் or சுதரிசனம், a wheellike missile; 3. தனுசு or சாரங்கம், bow. 4. வாள் or நாந்தகம், sword; 5. தண்டு or கௌமோதகி, club.--Note. These are pictured on a metal plate, and worn on the neck as an ornament, or amulet, by children, which is called பஞ்சாயுதம். திருமாலுந்தி, s. The lotus, said to resemble the navel of Vishnu, தாமரை. திருமால்புதல்வன், s. Kama as son of Vishnu, மன்மதன். திருமாளிகை, s. the house of a spiritual preceptor, in the language of his disciples. திருமாளிகைப்பத்தி, s. A gallery in such a house or on a fane. திருமானகரம், s. The heaven of Vishnu, வைகுந்தம்; [ex திருமால்.] திருமுகம், s. A divine face, divine presence, கடவுள்சந்நிதானம். 2. Presence of a great person, பெரியோர்சமூகம். 3. An epistle or edict from a superior to an inferior, சீமுகம். 4. An epistle, நிருபம். திருமுருகாற்றுப்படை, s. A poem. See ஆற்றுப்படை. திருமுழுக்கு, v. noun. The bathing of பார்வதி, under whatever name for purification, திருஅபிஷேகம். 2. Bathing by women with fasting in honor of பார்வதி, ten days in December. திருமுறை, s. A class of sacred writings, odes, &c., திருவாசகம். திருமுற்றம், s. An open space for performing equestrain exercises, கோயிற் சந்நிதி. 2. Temples or sacred places of Vishnu, கோயில். 3. A horse race, course, hippodrome, குதிரைவையாளிவீதி. திருமுன்--திருமுன்பு, s. Divine presence, தேவசன்னிதானம். 2. Presence of a king or other great persons, பெரியோர் சன்னிதானம். திருமெழுக்கு, v. noun. Smearing the floor of a temple and adjacent parts with cow-dung, கோயில்மெழுகுகை. திருமேனி, s. A divine body, form, shape, &c., the person of a deity or saint, திவ்வியதேகம். 2. A plant, குப்பை மேனி, Acalypha, L. திருமேனிகன்றப்பிரம்படிகொண்டசிவனார்...... Siva who was beaten with a ratan so that his divine body was bruised. திருவடி, s. Divine feet, feet of a deity, கடவுளடி. 2. Saints or great one's feet, குருபாதம். திருவடிதீட்சை, s. The guru's placing his feet on the head of the disciple, as one of the modes of dispelling his sin. திருவடிப்பாதுகை, s. A town on the Malabar coast sacred to Vishnu, Trivandrum. திருவாக்கு, s. The word, declaration or order of a deity, saint, guru, king or other great person; an oracle. திருவாக்குக்கெதிர்வாக்குண்டோ.... Is the word of a high personage to be controverted? திருவாசகம், s. A poem by மாணிக்க வாசகர். திருவாசல்--திருவாயில், s. The gates or door-ways of a temple, including all the openings between the worshipper and the idol, ஆலயவாயில். 2. [prov.] A rest-house built from religious motives, மடம். திருவாசி--திருவாசிகை, s. (com. திரு வாட்சி.) The arch or bow over the head of an idol, of metal, wood, &c., or in painting; or an ornamented arch under which any thing sacred is carried, பிரபை. திருவாடுதண்டு--திருவாழித்தண்டு, s. The mountain town of Parlany, பழனி, one of the six places sacred to Skanda, முருகர்ஸ்தலம். திருவாழ்ங்கோடு--திருவான்கோடு, s. Travancore, a town and country at the S. A lighted lamp as representing a god. திருவிளையாடல், v. noun. Sports of the deity, commonly of a wonderful, or miraculous character, தெய்வவிளையாட்டு. 2. A section of திருவா சகம், composed by மாணிக்கவாசகர், Manikavasakar, திருவாசகத்தோருறுப்பு. திருவுளம்--திருவுள்ளம், s. The will of a god, a king, a guru, &c., [ex உளம், உள்ளம், mind.] 2. (fig.) The Supreme Being, கடவுள். திருவுளங்கொள்ள, inf. To approve, in case of a deity, or holy person; to deign, to be pleased. சுவாமிஅப்படியேதிருவுளங்கொண்டிருக்கிருக்கிறார்.... God is pleased to have it so. திருவுளச்சீட்டு, s. A lot cast or drawn. திருவுளச்செயல், s. Providential occurrence, providence. திருவுளமத்தியஸ்தம், s. Appeal to the deity. திருவுளமறிய, inf. A female ornament of solid gold bearing the figure of Lukshmi, worn on the forehead, நுதன்மே லணி. See உத்தி. திருவூசல்--திருவூஞ்சல், s. A swing for the idol, used on the last day of the annual festival, and on some other special occasions; a kind of cot, தேவவூச லாட்டு. திருவூஞ்சலாட, inf. To swing the idol. திருவேங்கடம், s. A place sacred to Vishnu, திருப்பதி. See திசை. திருவேடம், s. Sacred dress of siva, or of his followers, such as red cloths, sacred beads, &c. 2. Ear-rings made of gold or copper worn by the பண்டாரம், the தம்பிரான், &c., சிவனடியார்காதணி. திருவேடம்பூண, inf. To wear the distinguishing marks of the Saiva sect. திருவேரகம், s. Trivaraka near Pondichery, one of the six places sacred to Skanda, குமரன்ஸ்தலம். திருவொற்றாடை, s.
