உண்மை
uṇmai (p. 59) s. Being, existence, entity, (opposed to இன்மை) உள்ளது. 2. Natural or intrinsic quality, essense, nature, இயல்பு. (p.) 3. Sincerity, honesty, probity, fidelity, uprightness, faithfulness, veracity, reality, fact, யதார்த்தம். 4. Certainty, ascertainment, மெய். 5. Oath, abjuration, சத்தி யம். 6. (p.) Destiny or entailment of actions issuing in joys and sorrows, ஊழ். 7. Wisdom, right knowledge, அறிவு. உண்மையானுண்டிவ்வுலகு. By the existence (of kindness, favor, politeness) the world is sustained. (குறள்.) நீயதற்குண்மைபண்ணிக்கொடுப்பாயா? Will you swear to it? உண்மைகண்டவன். One who has experienced the truth (of a religion). உண்மைத்தவறு, s. Falsification, உண்மைவழு. 2. Failure in moral rectitude, சன்மார்க்கவழு. 3. A breach of trust, நாணயப்பழுது. உண்மைத்தாழ்ச்சி, s. Unfaithful ness, breach of trust, உண்மைக்குறை. உண்மைத்தாற்பரியம், s. The real object, scope or design, யதார்த்தமானகருத்து. உண்மைத்துரோகம்--உண்மைப்பா தகம், s. A very flagrant breach of truth, flagitious crime of the guilt thus incurred, நம்பிக்கைத்துரோகம். உண்மைப்பட, inf. To become evident to the mind--as the deity to his worshippers, மெய்ப்பட. 2. To prove true --as religion, by means of the Shasters, arguments, miracles, &c., மெய்யாக. 3. To appear as a certainty to the exclusion of all doubt, hesitation, &c., நிச்சயப் பட. உண்மைப்படுத்த, inf. To prove or show to be true, மெய்ப்பிக்க. உண்மைப்பிடி, s. Tenacious adherence to a religion from a discovery of its truth. 2. Consistent and steady perseverance in religion. உண்மைப்பேதகம், s. Prevarication. 2. Breach of trust, unfaithfulness. உண்மைப்பொருள், s. The Deity, the real Being, as eternal, immutable, &c., மெய்ப்பொருள். 2. The meaning of the Vedas, or of a system of religion, உள்ளபொருள். உண்மையளவை, s. [in logic.] Ascertainment of a thing from the attributes or qualities affirmed of it--as when we hear that a stone attracts iron, we know that it is a magnet, பிரத்தியட்சப் பிரமாணம். உண்மையறிந்தவன், s. One who has discovered the reality, authenticity, mysteries, &c. of religion. 2. One who has experienced the truth, &c. of religion. உண்மையானதெய்வம், s. The true deity. உண்மையானவன், s. கடுமை
kṭumai (p. 88) s. Severity, harshness, cruelty, hard-heartedness, அகோரம். 2. Rigor, strictness, asperity, rigidness, earnestness, zealousness, கண்டிப்பு. 3. Vehemence, impetuosity, forcibleness, furiousness, மூர்க்கம். 4. Rapidity, speed, haste, velocity, விரைவு. 5. Hardness, tenacity, firmness, roughness, ruggedness, கடினம். 6. Excessiveness, intensity, immoderateness, vastness, exorbitancy, flagrancy, atrocity, malignity, heinousness, desperateness, மி குதி. 7. Ferocity, savageness, furiousness, violence, கோபம். 8. Strength, powerfulness, வன்மை. 9. Cutting in language, offensiveness, satiricalness, injuriousness, குரூரம். The leading character of this word in its different meanings is intensity. (See கொடுமை.) From this word id derived the symbolic verb கடிது. (3d person sing.) It is severe, &c., with any of the meanings of கடுமை. கடிசு, v. noun. Being too perpendicular, too little bent-- as a hoe, adze, &c., to the handle, or a plough-share to the shaft, நிமிர்வு--opp. to தணிசு. கடிச்சை, s. Niggardliness, உலோ பகுணம். கடிச்சைக்காரன், s. A niggard, a penurious man. கடியது, the neuter appellative.) That which is severe. கடியமோசம், s. Imminent danger. கடியவார்த்தை, s. Hard or angry words, offensive terms or language. கடியன், s. A severe, cruel man. கடுங்கணாளர், s. Cruel, savage, barbarous persons, கொடியோர். கடுங்கண், s. Cruelty, severity, barbarousness, unmercifulness, கொடுமை. 2. [prov.] The scallop of a palmyra leaf in a கோலுபட்டை, cut too closely, ஒலைக்கண். கடுங்கருத்து, s. Abstruse idea, farfetched unnatural meaning, கடமையானக ருத்து. கடுங்காய், s. [prov.] Unripe fruit, பழாதகாய். கடுங்காய்நுங்கு, s. Palmyra fruit, the kernel or pulp of which is too far advanced to be eatable, முதிர்ந்தநுங்கு. கடுங்காய்ச்சல், s. Violent fever, மிகுசுரம். 2. v. noun. Being over-heated-as by the smith, அதிககாய்ச்சல். 3. Being dried or scorched much in the sun, வெ யிலிலதிகமாய்க்காய்தல். கடுங்காய்ச்சலாக்காய்ந்துபோயிற்று. (The corn, &c.), is all scorched (not irrecoverably) by the sun and want of water, rain, &c. கடுங்காரநீர், s. An egg, முட்டை. கடுங்காரம், s. A powerful caustic, ஓர்வகையெரிமருந்து. 2. Excessive pungency, அதிகவுறைப்பு. கடுங்காலம், s. A hard season as in drought, scarcity, &c., a season of adversity, பஞ்சகாலம். 2. A hot season, hot weather, வெப்பமானகாலம். கடுங்காற்று, s. A strong breeze, a furious wind, a tempest, அதிககாற்று. கடுங்கூர்மை, s. Being sharp, அ திககூர்மை. 2. Salt from sesamum, கடுந்தி லாலவணம். 3. Salt of sulphur, கந்தகவுப்பு. 4. Sea salt, கடலுப்பு. கடுங்கூர்மைலவணம், s. Salt from urine, அமரியுப்பு. கடுங்கோடை, s. A severe drought, முதிர்வேனில். கடுங்கோபம், s. Violent anger. கடுஞ்சினப்பூமி--கடுந்தழற்பூமி, s. Alkaline earth, lixivium, உழமண். கடுஞ்சினேகம், s. Very close friendship, too great intimacy, அதிகசினேகம். கடுஞ்சினேகங்கண்ணுக்குப்பகை. Too great intimacy is productive of evil. கடுஞ்சுண்ணத்தி, s. A severe word, a harsh expression, a reprimand, கொடுஞ் சொல். கடுதலைமுடிச்சு, s. [prov. prop. க டைதலைமுடிச்சு.] A treacherous contrivance, perfidy. கடுநடை, s. A tiresome walk, hard walking, a hard walk. கடுநெருப்பு, s. A fierce fire, a fire too large or too powerful for the occasion--as for culinary or chemical purposes. கடுந்தரை, s. Hard soil, வன்னிலம். கடுந்தோயல்--கடுந்தோய்ச்சல், v. noun. Over-tempering a weapon, &c., முதிர்ந்ததோயல். கடுமத்தியானம்--கடும்பகல், s. The intense heat of mid-day. கடுமுள், s. கொடுமை
koṭumai (p. 146) s. Cruelty, tyranny, oppression, violence inhumanity, கொடுங்கோன் மை. 2. Severity, harshness, vehemence, impetuosity, barbarousness, குரூரம். 3. Crookedness, flexture, obliquity, வளைவு. (Sans. Kota, crookedness.) 4. roughness, harshness, uncouthness, frightfulness, கோ ரம். 5. Vileness, turpitude, wickedness, baseness, flagrance, flagitiousness, தீமை. 6. Injustice, அநீதி. 7. Sharpness, poignancy, severity, கூர்மை. 8. adj. Satirical, offensive, injurious, கடுமை.--Note. In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். He is vexed by want of food. கொடிது--கொடியது, appel. noun. That which is cruel, கொடுமையானது. கொடியகாடு, s. A wild, inhospitable desert. கொடியகூற்றன், s. The cruel Yama. கொடியசண்டாளர், s. Desperate wretches. கொடியபிறவி, s. Vile births--as evils to which souls are subject; horrid transmigration--as keeping the soul from union with the deity. கொடியமனம், s. A cruel or envious disposition. 2. The evil heart. கொடியமுகம், s. A frightful visage; a fierce countenance. கொடியமோசம், s. Flagrant errors. கொடியவஞ்சனை, s. Base turpitude. 2. A desperate fraud; a base imposition. கொடியவன், s. A vile wretch, a hardhearted cruel man. கொடியவீரன், s. A kind of prepared arsenic, கோடாசொரிபாஷாணம். (Rott.) கொடியவெப்பம், s. Oppressive, vehement heat of weather or climate, &c. 2. Poignant qualities of medicines. கொடியோன், s. A cruel man. 2. The plant, கற்றாழை, Aloes. கொடுங்கண், s. neruppu (p. 280) s. Fair, தழல். 2. Caloric; principle of fire in the animal system, &c., as தீ, which see. 3. (fig.) Great grief, envy, jealously, rage, fury, &c. நெருப்புநின்றகாட்டிலேதாவதிருந்தாலும்நீர்நின்றகா ட்டிலொன்றுமிராது. Though something may survive a forest conflagration, nothing will remain after a forest inundation; i. e. water is more destructive than fire. நெருப்பெழக்காய்ச்சினான். A column of fire. நெருப்புப்படுதல், v. noun. Being consumed with drought, கடுங்கோடையாதல். 2. (fig.) Suffering oppression, injury, &c., as a village, or country, from a ruler of head man, அமளியாதல். 3. Being destroyed by divine retribution, as the possessions of a wicked man, தேவதண்டனைஅடைதல். 4. See தீக்குருவி. 2. (Beschi.) A turkey-cock, from its red throat, வான்கோழிச்சேவல். நெருப்புவிழுதல், v. noun. Being destroyed by unjust means, or by drought and famine. 2. perumai (p. 334) s. Greatness, largeness-oppos. to சிறுமை, பருமை. 2. Highness, dignity, excellence, eminence, nobleness, grandeur, மாட்சிமை. 3. Abundance, excessiveness, மிகுதி. 4. Power, might, வல்ல மை. 5. Celebrity, renown, கீர்த்தி. 6. (fig.) Pride, vanity, self-consequence, haughtiness, அகந்தை. 7. [in combin.] Grossness, heinousness, notoriousness. (c.)--Note. For the changes in combination, see அருமை. The first letter is lengthened as பேர், in the adjective. பெருமைபீற்றற்கோலம். Pride will end in rags. பெருமைபெத்தரிக்கமில்லாமலிருக்கிறது. Being free from pride and arrogance. பெருமையாய்ப்பேசுதல். Speaking arrogantly. அதுனக்குப்பெருமையல்ல. That is no honor to you. பெரியகுடி--பெரியகுடியானவன், s. Grand-mother's eldersister. பெரியபிராட்டி, s. Lukshmi. பெரியபுராணம், s. An ancient Purana, describing the history of the sixty-three famous devotees of Siva. பெரியபுலு, s. [in cant numbers.] A hundred, நூறு. பெரியபெயர், s. A great name, celebrity, popularity. பெரியமனம், s. A noble mind, magnanimity, உதாரமனம். பெரியமனிதன், s. A great man, பாரி மனிதன். 2. See தொடை. பெருந்தேவனார், s. (Hon.) Names of two professors of the Madura college; one of whom wrote an imitation of the Mahabharat in வெண்பா, which is known by the name of சங்கத்துப்பாரதம். vaṭavaṉal (p. 375) -வடவாக்கினி-வடவா நலம்--வடவாமுகம்--வடவாமுகாக்கினி, s. [in mythol.] A submarine fire, which will cause the final conflagration.
