kuṇkku (p. 118) s. Crookedness, flexture, curvature, கோணல்; [ex குட, crooked.] 2. Thwartness, opposition, thwarting, எதிரி டை. 3. The east, கிழக்கு--Note. In the last sense, the word becomes குண to convey an adjective signification--as in குணகடல், குணதிசை, குணநாடு. குணக்குப்பண்ண, inf. To thwart an undertaking; to cause difficulties in business, to throw obstacles in the way. குணக்கெடுக்க, inf. To straighten a crooked thing. நாயின்வாலைக்குணக்கெடுக்கலாமா. Is it possible to divest a dog's tail of its curl? குணக--குணங்க, inf. v. n. TO become bent or crooked, வளைய. 2. To sink, faint. fade, droop, சோர. 3. In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். He is vexed by want of food. கொடிது--கொடியது, appel. noun. That which is cruel, கொடுமையானது. கொடியகாடு, s. A wild, inhospitable desert. கொடியகூற்றன், s. The cruel Yama. கொடியசண்டாளர், s. Desperate wretches. கொடியபிறவி, s. Vile births--as evils to which souls are subject; horrid transmigration--as keeping the soul from union with the deity. கொடியமனம், s. A cruel or envious disposition. 2. The evil heart. கொடியமுகம், s. A frightful visage; a fierce countenance. கொடியமோசம், s. Flagrant errors. கொடியவஞ்சனை, s. Base turpitude. 2. A desperate fraud; a base imposition. கொடியவன், s. A vile wretch, a hardhearted cruel man. கொடியவீரன், s. A kind of prepared arsenic, கோடாசொரிபாஷாணம். (Rott.) கொடியவெப்பம், s. Oppressive, vehement heat of weather or climate, &c. 2. Poignant qualities of medicines. கொடியோன், s. A cruel man. 2. The plant, கற்றாழை, Aloes. கொடுங்கண், s. An evil eye, a cruel eye. கொடுங்காலம், s. A time of dearth, scarcity, drought, &c. 2. A time of general suffering. 3. A time of oppression, cruelty, tyranny. கொடுங்கோல், s. A despotic government or rule; tyranny. (lit.) a crooked sceptre--as opposed to செங்கோல், a right sceptre, அரசின்முறைகேடு. கொடுங்கோள், s. Atrocious backbiting, disgraceful calumny, அவதூறு. கொடுங்கோன்மை, s. Despotism, tyranny; injustice, oppression, அரசின் முறைகேடு. கொடுசூரி--கொடுஞ்சூரி, s. [local.] A desperately wicked woman. கொடுநுகம், s. The tenth lunar asterism. See மகம். கொடுஞ்சொல், s. Rude, harsh, severe language; harshness, reproof, abuse, &c. --as கடுஞ்சொல் and வன்சொல். கொடும்பசி, s. Severe hunger. கொடுமரம், s. A bow, வில். 2. Sagitarius of the zodiac, தனுராசி. கொடுமுடிச்சு, s. Making a wry face through discontent, dissatisfaction, umbrage, sorrow, &c. சொற்கோட்டமில்லதுசெப்பமொருதலையாவுட்கோ ட்டமின்மைபெறின். Freedom from obliquity of speech is rectitude, if there be a (corresponding) freedom from bias of mind. (குற.) முகக்கோட்டம், v. noun. A sad, dejected countenance. 2. cuẕi (p. 198) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To be formed as curls, curvatures, &c., on the head or body, அங்கஞ்சுழிக்க. 2. To sink, fall in, as the eyes by age, &c., கண்சுழிக்க. 3. To fall here and there--as rain in partial showers, மழைசுழிக்க. (c.) 4. [prov.] To go, move about, to walk here and there, அலைய. மழைசுழித்துவிட்டுப்போயிற்று. The rain was very scanty. கபாலக்குத்துகண்ணைச்சுழித்தது. A severe headache has sunk the eyes. சுழித்தமுகம், s. A sunk face. Compare சுரித்தமூஞ்சி. சுழித்துவலிக்க, inf. To have stitches or spasms connected with breathing. சுழித்துவாங்க, inf. To have pain in breathing. 2. To draw in--as a whirlpool or eddy, to ingulph. சுழிகாற்று--சுழிக்காற்று, s. Whirl-wind. See under காற்று. சுழிமாந்தம், s. Distortion of the bowels in children, connected with indigestion. See மாந்தம். சுழிமின்னல், s. Forked lightning. (Rare.) சுழித்தது, appel. n. Any thing with a curl of flexture. சுழியாதது, appel. n. (neg.) That which has not a curl--as டு. 61)

neḷi (p. 281) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், நெளிய, v. n. To crawl with an undulating motion--as snakes, worms, maggots, &c., ஊர. 2. To writhe as the body through pain, to distort the limbs, &c., as a child, showing airs, கெந்த. 3. To hitch, move or shift from its place as an infant, நகர. 4. To be distorted by carrying a load; to be bent on one side, as a lame person, &c., கூன. 5. To be bent, inclined, warped--as timber, articles of furniture, &c., also to be crooked, as a road, channel, &c., வளைய. (c.) அதுநெளிந்துபோயிற்று. It is bent, applied to a tool, &c. பாதைநெளிந்துகொண்டுபோகிறது. The way is crooked. நெளிந்தஎழுத்து, s. Crooked, straggling letters in writing. நெளிந்துகொடுக்க, inf. [vul.] To incline or bend, as a tall palankeen bearer to be level with a shorter, to shrink from blows, &c. நெளிந்துகொண்டுநிற்க, inf. To stand in a lounging or affected posture. நெளிவு, v. noun. Crawling, writhing, flexture, &c., as the verb. நெளிவெடுக்க, inf. To mend any thing bent or warped, to correct an irregularity. 2. To make a flexure, commonly to a ring, நெளி. 5)
