The mode of using the hands in dancing which are of twenty-three kinds, viz.: 1. பதாகை, stretching all the five fingers keeping them close and straight. 2. திரிபதாகை, bending the thumb and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 3. பிறை, keeping the other four fingers close together separately from the thumb. 4. சர்ப்பசிரம், keeping the palm of the hand curved. 5. சாளையம், bending the little finger and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 6. மான்றலை, keeping the middle three fing ers down and lifting the other two up. 7. பதுமகோசரம், keeping up the palm of the hand opened having the fingers bent. 8. சிலீமுகம், keeping the tip of the forefinger at the bottom of the thumb and the tips of each of the rest at the middle of the adjoining finger. 9. முட்டி, folding all the four fingers and keeping the thumb above the middle finger. 1. சிக ரம், folding all the other fingers and keeping the thumb stretched. 11. சூசி, stretching the pointing finger and keeping the thumb curved while the others are folded. 12. கபித்தம், keeping the tips of the thumb and fore-finger close together and the other folded. 13. கடகம், keeping the tips of the thumb and forefinger together, the middle finger bent and the rest stretched. 14. சந்தங்கிஷம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, stretching the rest. 15. அஞ்சவாய், keeping the ringfinger and little finger separately stretched up and keeping the tips of the rest together. 16. முகிழ், keeping the tips of all the fingers together. 17. திரிலிங்கம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, the rest curved and the wrist a little bent. 18. மிருகசிரம், stretching up the pointing finger and the little finger and keeping the rest close together. 19. சிங்கநகம், keeping up the palm of the hand having the fingers almost folded. 2. கூர்மம், stretching up the middle finger while the others are bent down. 21. பூரணம், stretching all the five fingers straight not being close together. 22. மென்னிலை, bending the thumb and stretching up the rest. 23. முன்னதம், separating the fore-finger from the rest. கரவாளம், s. cuṭṭu (p. 193) s. Intention, aim, scope, object, குறிப்பு. 2. [in gram.] Demonstrative letters or words, சுட்டெழுத்து--as இ, இந்த. 3. Mark, sign, token, distinction, characteristic, குறி. See சுட்டு. v. பிறராற்பெருஞ்சுட்டுவேண்டுவான். He who wishes to be praised by other men. (p.) சுட்டுச்சொல்--சுட்டுப்பெயர், s. [in gram.] Demonstrative pronouns--as இவன், இது. சுட்டுப்பொருள், s. The meaning intended, கருதியபொருள். 2. The image of a deity formed in the mind at pleasure, the god appearing in that form, as a Guru, either mentally or occularly, according to the proficiency of the worshipper. சுட்டுவிரல், s. The fore-finger. (Rare.) சுட்டுவைக்க, inf. [prov. prop. சுட்டி வைக்க.] To form an image of the deity in the mind, as the object of worship, the external senses being all restrained, and the attention fixed on that only. 2. To fix the mind on a person from whom an object is to be gained. சுட்டெழுத்து, s. See under எழுத்து. 41)

நாடி
nāṭi (p. 273) s. W. p. 46. NADI. Pulse especially at the wrist, sometimes at the foot, தாது. 2. An Indian hour of twentyfour minutes, நாழிகை. (c.) 3. An artery, a vein, tendon, sinew, muscle, nerve, ligament, நரம்பு. 4. String of a guitar, யாழ் நரம்பு. 5. Any thing tubular, tube, pipe, tupularity, உட்டுளை. 6. Nose, மூக்கு. 7. A man's lock of hair, ஆண்மயிர். (சது.) 8. The hollow stalk of the lotus, தாமரைத்தாள்.-There are three varieties of pluse; 1. வாத நாடி, indicating acid humors, hypochondria, &c., and felt by the fore-finger. 2. பித்தநாடி, indicating billous humors, felt by the second finger. 3. சிலேட்டுமநாடி, indicating phlegmatic humors, felt by the third finger,--Note. In healthy persons, cach நாடி is supposed to be prevalent for ten நாழிகை, or four hours of the day and night alike, beginning from sunrise and from sunset; any derangement of these is regarded as indicative of disease. தசநாடி, s. The ten nerves are: 1. சுழிமுனை, passing through the six ஆதாரம்; 2. இடை. beginning from the great toe of the right foot and passing up to the left nostril; 3. பிங்கலை, beginning from the great toe of the left foot, and passing up to the right nostril, crossing each other in five different places; 4. காந்தாரி, beginning at the navel and passing to the neck, where they assume a seven-fold form, being the sources of the seven musical tones of the human voice; 5. அத்தி; 6. சிகுவை, situated in the region of the eyes forming ten branches, as optical nerves; 7. அலம் புடை. 8. புருடன், in the region of the ears forming 12 branches or auditory nerves; 9. குரு, beginning at the navel and reaching to the verenda; 1. சங்கி னி, situated in the verenda,--Note. There are said to be 72, pulses in the body. அவன் ஓடிப்பாடி நாடியிலடங்கினான். His power, and bustle, have come to an end said of an extravagant person reduce to poverty. நாடிக்குறி, s. Indication of the pulse. நாடிதாரணை, s. The system of nerves and arteries with their ramifications. நாடிநிலை, s. State of the pulse. நாடிபார்க்க, inf. To feel the pulse. See தாதுபார்க்க. நாடிபரீட்சை, s. Acquainted with the pulse. நாடியறிய, inf. To be acquainted with the system of pulsation in its threefold variety. நாடியெழும்புதல், v. noun. Rising of the pulse. நாடியொடுக்கம்--நாடிவிழுந்துபோதல், v. noun. Sinking of the pulse. நாடியோட்டம், v. noun. The beating of the pulse, pulsation. 2. The state of the pulse. நாடிவிதி, s. System of the arteries. சாத்தியநாடி, s. A pulse indicating recovery. அசாத்தியநாடி, s. A pulse indicting death. 63) *
விரல்
virl (p. 397) s. [pl. விரல்கள்.] Finger, கை விரல். 2. Toe, கால்விரல்.--Note. The five fingers are அங்குஷ்டம், thumb; 2. தற்சனி, ஆட்காட்டி, சுட்டுவிரல், fore-finger; 3. மத்திமை, நடுவிரல், or பாம்புவிரல், middle finger; 4. அநாமிகை or ஆழிவிரல், ring-finger; 5. கனிஷ் டை or சுண்டுவிரல், little finger. பெருவிரல், s. The thumb or great toe. விரலணி, s. Ring, மோதிரம். (p.) விரல்முழி, s. A knuckle. விரற்கடை--விரற்கிடை, s. A finger's breadth in which are eight rice-corns twelve fingers breadth make one சாண், or span. விரற்சுற்று, s. A whitlow, as நகச்சுற்று. விரற்புட்டில், s. A thimble, as புட்டில். 14)
