அளறு
aḷṟu (p. 33) கிறேன், அளறினேன், வேன், அளற, v. n. To split or become mauled or shattered--as a tree in lopping off the branches with a blunt instrument, சிதறிவெ டிக்க. 2. To split--as a palmyra tree in falling, பிளக்க. 3. To be fractured--as the skull by a fall or blow, to be broken or bruised as any part of the body, also as palmyra fruits, நெரிய. 27)

The silk cotton tree whose produce is used for pillows, &c.; there are three kinds, இலவு, கோங்கிலவு, and முள்ளிலவு, Bombax pentandrum, L., or Eriodendron anfractuosum. இலவுகாத்தகிளிபோல. உடை
uṭai (p. 59) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To become broken--as a vessel; to crack, burst, break in pieces, split, to be fractured--as the skull, &c.; to break with force suddenly, to break or burst open--as a bank or shore; to break open--as a letter or seal, &c.; to be broken--as the skin; to be hurt--as by a wound, தகர. 2. To become broken--as the ranks of an army, to be discomfited, to retreat before the foe, இரிய. 3. To become broken--as the heart with grief, to be disheartened, dispirited, dejected, alienated, &c., to be in despair, மனம்நெகிழ. 4. To fall below in competition, rivalry or comparison, தாழ. 5. To be reduced in circumstances, to become poor, குறைய. 6. To effloresce, open, burst--as a flower, to blossom, மலர. 7. To become untwisted, முறுக்கவிழ. 8. To be reduced in strength, to be debilitated, to be subdued or overcome by any thing, பலமுடைய. (குறள். 19. அதி. 8.) 9. To be divulged or become known as a secret, வெளிப்பட. 1. To be ruined, கெட. நெஞ்சுடைந்தவனாய்ப்போனான். He is dispirited, dejected, &c.; he is in despair. கொப்புளமுடைந்தது. The blister is broken. ஒன்னலருடைந்துபோனார். The enemy was discomfited. உடை, s. Clothes, garments, vesture, dress, வஸ்திரம். உடைநடைபாவனை, s. The mode of dress, the gait, the manner, external appearance. உடையல், s. Any thing broken, a breach, a fracture. உடையல்நெரியல், s. Things cracked and broken. உடைவாள், s. A short scimiter, an accoutrement or article of equipage, சுரிகை. உடைவு, v. noun. A breach, disruption, eruption, infraction, crack, fracture, தகர்வு. 2. Being routed, a discomfiture, defeat, இரிவு. 3. Debility, brokenness of constitution, தளர்வு. 4. [with appropriate words prefixed.] Dispiritedness, dejection, broken-heartedness, despair, மனநெகிழ்ச்சி. 5. Reduction of circumstances from wealth to poverty, கேடு. மனமுடைவானவன், s. A dejected or broken-hearted person. 101)
உடை
uṭai (p. 59) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To break a vessel, &c.; to burst, break open, break a bank, &c.; to break lumps, clods, &c.; to break a boil, a blister, the skull or any other flat, solid or massive substance; to split, fracture, தகர்க்க. 2. To break the ranks of an enemy, to defeat, discomfit, disperse, rout, put to flight, இரிக்க. 3. To ruin, impoverish one, கெடுக்க. 4. To untwist, untwine, முறுக்கவிழ்க்க. 5. v. n. To break--as a boil, கட்டியுடைக்க.-Note. உடைய and உடைக்க are not applicable to the breaking of a tree, a branch, an arm or any other long and cylindrical body that is broken off short or asunder. For this meaning see முரிக்க, ஒடிக்க, &c. தண்ணீருடைத்துப்பாய்கிறது. The water has broken (the dam) and flows out. பல்லுடைப்பேனென்றான். He said, I will break your teeth. கட்டுடைக்க, inf. To burst an embankment--as water. பெண்மையுடைக்கும்படை, s. The weapon that dissolves female continency. தலையுடைக்க, inf. To take much pains, mentally--as in abstruse calculations, intricate business. உடைப்பு, v. noun. A breaking, a breach, the bursting of a bank, உடை க்கை. 2. s. A channel out or broken through a dam in a field, disruption, உடைந்தஅறுவாய். 3. Weakness, தளர்ச்சி. தலையுடைப்பு, v. noun. A trouble, some intricate employment. 102)

tkr (p. 219) s. A shiver, a fracture, fragment, தகர்ந்ததுண்டு. [prov.] 2. A ram, செம்மறியாட் டுக்கடா. 3. Aries of the Zodiac, மேடவிராசி. 4. A ram of the துருவாடு sheep துருவாட்டே று. 5. தகர்
tkr (p. 219) -தகரு, கிறது, தகர்ந்தது, தகரும், தகர, v. n. To be broken, shivered, shattered, demolished, dilapidated, உடைய. 2. To be fractured, shivered as a scull-bone, earthen vessels, &c., சின்னாபின்னப்பட. 3. To be bruised, mangled, நொறுங்க. 4. To be broken as a blister, boil, &c., accidentally, கொப்புளமு டைய. 5. To be knocked out, as the teeth, &c., பல்தகர. 6. To be broken, as a dam, bank, &c., கரையுடைய. (c.) 7. (p.) To be broken, as the ranks of an army, படையாணி சிதற--Most of its compounds are used only in Jaffna. தலைதகரஇடிக்கிறது. I have a severe headache. தகரஅடிக்க, inf. To break to piece as a stone, cocoa-nut, &c. 2. To defeat, discomfit an enemy, &c. தகரக்குத்திவிழ, inf. To persevere in unreasonable requests, as a froward child. தகரவாங்கிப்போட, inf. To raze a fort, a house, a hill, &c. (fig.) To take away any one's power or dignity. (c.) தகர்ச்சி--தகர்வு, v. noun. Fracture, dilapidation, demolition, ruins, இடிவு. 16)

To break a blister, boil, &c., to rupture, to contuse, உடைக்க. 5. To cuff the head, தலையைக்குட்ட. 6. (p.) To break the ranks of an army, to defeat, சேனையைச்சிதறடிக்க. (c.) உன்பல்லைத்தகர்த்துவிடுவேன். நெரி
neri (p. 279) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To crack, to be fractured as a bone, &c. தகர. 2. To be broken as crockery, உடைய. 3. To be mashed, நசுங்க. 4. To be bruised, நொறுங்க. 5. To be crushed, as vegetables, முறிய. 6. To be pressed, to be squeezed, நெருங்க. 7. To incline, to droop, சாய. எலும்புநெரியஅடித்தான். He beat him so as to break his bones. அதுநெரிந்திருக்கிறது.....It is cracked or burised. நெரி, v. noun. Crack, burise, smash, breakage, நெரிவு. 2. Close, and short plaits in cloth, சேலையின்முரிப்பு. 3. Any fold or angular prominence, மடிப்பு. நெரிகொட்டை, s. [prov.] Crumbled areca-nuts, &c. நெரிபட, inf. To be fractured or bruised. காலின்கீழேகிடந்துநெரிபடுதல்..... Being servile, (lit.) trodden under foot. நெரிபுருவம், s. [also நெறித்தபுருவம்.] Eye-brows greatly curved in displeasure, ready to break, a poetic hyperbole. (p.) நெரிமீட்டான், appel. n. A kind of herb, the root of which is used for curing bruises, ஓர்பூடு. நெரிவு, v. noun. Fracture; variance, discord, disunion, பகை. 2. Cracking, pressing, &c., as the verb. அவ்விருவருக்குஞ்சற்றுநெரிவுண்டு. There is a little disunion, between those two persons. 90)

To rub or bruise in the hand, as ears of corn, நிமிட்ட. 6. (fig.) To speak fluently, to manage creditably, கெட்டித்தனமாய்நடத்த. அவனைக்கிட்டிபோட்டுநெரித்தார்கள். [fig.] To be mortified, cut to the heart, to be heart-broken, through sorrow, remorse or shame, உள்நெகிழ. 5. v. a. க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க. To split with force, to cleave, rend, rive, to tear open, to crack, to fracture, to chop, கீள. 6. To blast, as rocks, to blow up, வெடிக்கச்செய்ய. 7. To cut, to part asunder, to break through, to force through--as an army, போழ. 8. To pierce, penetrate as a weapon, to perforate, துளைக்க 9. An open mouth, a large mouth. 2. Open mouthed--as oysters, or muscles. 3. The mouth or orifice of a wound. பிளந்தெறிதல்,v. noun. Beating in controversy. பிளப்பு, v. noun. Splitting, blasting, tearing open; cutting through; piercing, perforating, as the verb. 2. Crevice, or cleft, as பிளவு. 6)
பிளவு
piḷvu (p. 318) v. noun. [used substantively.] Cleft, slit, crevice, gap, fissure, fracture, பிளப்பு. 2. A part, division, portion, piece, slice, பிரிவு. 3. [vul. பிளகு.] A piece of areca-nut commonly green, பாக்குத்துண்டு. 4. Half of a குன்றிமணி, as a weight 5. Slit of a pen of reed, எழுதுமிறகின்பிளப்பு. 6. [in gram.] Detachment, separation of words, as the nominative from its verb, &c.,பிரிந் திசைப்பு. பாக்குவெட்டியொருபிளவுகொடு. Cut the arecanut and give me a bit. பிளவுபட, inf. To be eleven, split, parted. 2. To be distinct, uncompounded, &c., as adjoining words in a phrase. பிளவுபோடுதல், v. noun. Putting betel in the mouth for chewing. பிளவுப்பிறை, s.
