Round, black spots in fruits, when they are over-ripe, or spoiled. ஆனைக்கண்படுதல்--ஆனைக்கண் வி ழுதல், v. noun. The appearing of spots, or defects in fruits. பலாப்பழமானைக்கண்பட்டுப் போயிற்று. The jack fruit has got a defect or flaw. ஆனைக்கதுப்பு, s. The frontal sinus of the elephant, from which secretion exudes when the animal is in rut. ஆனைக்களிமுளையான், s. Learning and practising to ride on an elephant, யானை யேறிப்பழகுகை. ஆனைவணங்கி, s. A kind of plant whose flower is supposed to resemble the trunk of an elephant. It is also fancied to be a preservative against the attack of a wild elephant, which, it is said, will retire abashed at the sight of it, தேட்கொடுக்குப்பூண்டு. ஆனைவாழை, s. aintu (p. 80) adj. or noun. Five, ஓரெண். ஐங்கணை, s. Five flowers feigned to be the arrows of Hindu cupid. (p.) ஐங்கணைக்கிழவன், Kama, the Hindu cupid, lit. lord of the five arrows, மன்மதன். (p.) ஐங்கரன், s. Ganesa, the five-handed. He is represented with an elephant's head, the proboscis or trunk is figuratively reckoned as a hand, விநாய கன். (p.) ஐங்கரற்கிளையோன், s. A name of Skanda, முருகன். 2. Verapattra, வீரபத் திரன். (p.) ஐங்கலம், s. Sixty marcals. ஐங்காதம், s. Five leagues. ஐங்காயம், s. The five kinds of காயம். (See காயம்.) 2. A pentagon, quinquangular figure, பஞ்சகோணம். ஐஞ்ஞூறு, s. Five-hundred, ஐந் நூறு. ஐந்தரு, s. The five trees in the world of Indra, பஞ்சதாரு, viz.: 1. அரிச்சந்த னம். 2. கற்பகம். 3. சந்தானம். 4. பாரிசாதம். 5. மந்தாரம். ஐந்தருநாதன், s. Indra, lord of the five trees in the celestial world, which yield whatever is asked or desired of them, இந்திரன். (p.) ஐந்தலைநாகம், s. A fabulous fiveheaded cobra, of which each head is supposed to contain a very precious gem. It is said to be found in mountainous districts and to have the power of flying. ஐந்தவித்தல், s. The control of the senses, ஐம்பொறியடக்கல். ஐந்தவித்தானாற் றலகல்விசும்புளார்கோமானிந்திர னேசாலுங்கரி. Indra, the god of the celestials, is a living monument of the wonderful power of those who control the five senses. (குறள்.) ஐந்தனுருபு, s. The fifth case (இன்) --one of the ablatives denoting procession, similitude, limit, and means, ஐந்தாம் வேற்றுமையுருபு. மலையின்வீழருவி. Torrents rushing from the mountains. காக்கையிற்கரிதுகளம்பழம். The களா berry is as black as a crow. மதுரையின்வடக்குச்சிதம்பரம். Sethamparam is situated to the north of Madura. கல்வியிற்பெரியன்கம்பன். Kampan made himself great by learning. ஐந்தாங்கால், s. The first post of the marriage shed when planted on the fifth day before the marriage, the third, fifth, or seventh day being chosen, as it may be lucky or otherwise, according to astrological calculation, மணப்பந்தரின் ஐந்தாங்கால். ஐந்தானம், s. The fifth lunar asterism, மிருகசீரிடம். (p.) ஐந்திணை, s. The five kinds of land, &c., ஐவகைநிலம். (See திணை.) 2. The closest friendship or love between husbands and wives, அன்புடைக்காமம். (p.) ஐந்திணைச்செய்யுள், s. A poem in which the five different kinds of soil are described and illustrated--one of the ninety-six பிரபந்தம், ஓர்பிரபந்தம். (p.) ஐந்துருவாணி, s. A shaft connecting the floors or stages of a car. See அ ஞ்சுருவாணி. ஐந்துறுப்படக்கி, s. The tortoise, ஆமை. (p.) ஐந்தொகைவினா, s. [in arithmetic.] The rule of five or double rule of three, ஓர்வகையெண்வினா. ஐந்தொழில், s. The five divine operations, பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், viz.: 1. சிருஷ்டி, creation or reproduction. 2. ஸ்திதி, preservation. 3. சங்காரம், destruction, reduction of things to their primitive elements. 4. திரோபவம், that act of the deity by which he conceals from the sentient soul its future destiny for purposes of moral discipline; concealing, obscuring; i. e. involving the soul in ignorance or illusion by means of magic. 5. அனுக்கிரகம், grace, the various means adopted for the deliverance of the soul from the power of illusion and consequent transmigrations. The hair of a female, மகளிர்கூந்தல். See பால். (p.) ஐம்புலம்--ஐம்புலன், s. The five senses, பஞ்சவிஷயம். ஐம்புலத்தடங்கான், s. He who is not comprehensible by the five senses-God, கடவுள். (p.) ஐம்புலம்வென்றோர், s. Ascetics, holy persons, முனிவர். (p.) ஐம்புலனடக்கல். Subjugation of the five senses. ஐம்புலனுகர்ச்சியினிறப்பன, s. The five kinds of creatures which perish by means of the senses, viz.: 1. சுவையரல்--மீன், fish, by the taste in catching at the bait. 2. நாற்றத்தால்-வண்டு, beetles, by the smell. 3. ஊற்றினால்-யானை, elephants, by copulation. 4. ஓசையால்-அசுணம், a species of bird by harsh sounds. 5. ஒளியால்-விட்டில், a species of insect, attracted by the light. ஐம்புலன்விழையான், s. In this plant the god Siva is said to have concealed himself when pursued by பஸ்மாசுரன், who had, by penance, obtained from him, as a boon, power to destroy all on whose head he should place his hand. ஐவிரல், s. oṉṟu (p. 84) s. One (the numeral), ஒன் றென்னுமெண். 2. One thing, அஃறிணையொரு மை. 3. Union, coalescence, ஐக்கம். 4. In construction, it means either, or--as ஒன் றுதீவினையைவிடு, ஒன்றுஅதின்பயனைநுகர், either abandon your evil deeds, or take the consequences. ஒன்றத்தனைகொடுத்தால்நானிரண்டத்தனைகொடுப் பேன். If he has given once as much, I will give twice. ஒன்றாறுகிறானில்லை. He so wonders that he knows not when to cease extolling. 2. His sorrow, regret, &c. is unremitted. ஒன்றிலிருந்தொன்றிலேபாய்தல். Talking loosely, incoherently, jumping from one thing to another. ஒன்றினுளொன்று. One among another, reciprocally, mutually. ஒன்றுகேள். Listen to a word of advice, hear what I have to say. ஒன்றுக்குமசையான். He is moved by nothing. ஒன்றுமொன்றுமிரண்டென்றுதெரியாதவன். A person so ignorant that he cannot tell that one and one make two. ஒன்றுவிட்டொருநாள். Every other day, alternate days. ஒன்றேயொன்று. One only. ஒன்றோஅவனாலேகேடு. Have I sustained but one loss by him? நான்சொன்னதொன்று, அவன்செய்ததொன்று. I told him one thing and he did another. மனமொன்றுவாக்கொன்று. His profession is one thing and intention another. ஒன்றரை, s. One and a half. ஒன்றன்கூட்டம், s. A collection of similar things, ஒருபொருட்கூட்டம். (p.) ஒன்றன்பால், s. [in grammar.] Neuter singular of the irrational class, அஃறி ணையொருமைப்பால். ஒன்றாய், adv. Together, altogether, ஒன்றாக. ஒன்றாலொன்றும். By any means, யாதொன்றினாலும். ஒன்றாலொன்றுங்குறையில்லை. There is no lack at all--commonly applied to provisions, the country produce, &c. ஒன்றி, s. [vul. ஒண்டி.] One, alone, solitary, lonely (spoken of persons), தனி. ஒன்றிக்காரன்--ஒன்றியாள், s. A bachelor, a widower, a single or lonely person, தனியாள். ஒன்றினமுடித்தறன்னினமுடித்தல், v. noun. [in grammar.] Forming a rule or definition so as to include others, ஒருத்தி. ஒன்றுக்கு. For one thing, viz.: to make water--the common expression among school boys when asking to go out for this purpose. ஒன்றுக்கிருக்க, inf. To sit or squat down or go for one thing, viz.: to make water, நீர்விட. ஒன்றுக்குப்போக, inf. To make water. ஒன்றுக்கொன்று. To or for each other. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுசரி. They are equal, alike, &c. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுபேசிக்கொண்டார்கள். [vul.] They have called each other by hard names. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுவித்தியாசம். Different one from another. ஒன்றுபட, inf. To become reconciled, ஒப்புரவாக. 2. To be united, to coalesce, பொருந்த. ஒன்றுபடுத்த, inf. To bring about a union or acquaintance between persons, ஒருமைப்படுத்த. 2. One who knows nothing. ஒன்றுமறியாதவனுமில்லைஎல்லாமறிந்தவனுமில்லை. None is so ignorant as to know nothing --none so wise as to know every thing. ஒன்றுமற்றவன், s. A useless person, உபயோகமற்றவன். 2. To spy out--as an enemy, &c., to watch narrowly the proceedings of an enemy under a mask. கதையிலேபொழுதுபோக்க, inf. To beguile time in the recitation of tales. கதையெடுக்க, inf. To introduce a subject. கதைவளர்க்க, inf. To prolong a story, conversation, cavilling, &c. கதைவிட, inf. To tell a false story for some sinister end. 2. To tell stories. கதைவிட்டுக்கதைகேட்க. To tell or mention things in order to fish out matters from another. கதைவிட்டுக்கதையறிய. To tell something pleasing to one in order to get secrets from him. கட்டுக்கதை, s. A fable. கிளைக்கதை, s. A digression in a fable, one story arising from another, a ramifying narrative, an episode. புண்ணியகதை, s. A religious tale. கதைத்தல், v. noun. Speaking, telling. 2)

kiṭai (p. 109) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To be obtained, to come to one, to be realized, found; to come into one's possession, to turn to account, அடைய. With the agent in the dative, and the object in the nominative--as எனக்கொருபுஸ்்தகங்கிடைத்தது; lit. a book has come to me; i.e. I have obtained a book. 2. To encounter, to be confronted with--as warriors; to oppose, எதிர்க்க. In the first sense, the verb is commonly used in the neuter gender. எனக்குப்பாக்கியங்கிடைத்தது. I have become rich or happy. I have had prosperity. வழுக்கிவிழுகையில் ஊன்றுகோல்போல் நீ கிடைத் தாயே. You have offered yourself to me as a prop--as a walking-stick to one who slips and is ready to fall. 18)

kūṭl (p. 133) s. A name of Madura, from the legend that large halls came into existence miraculously, to shelter the people collected there in a time of great rain, மதுரை. 2. A kind of divination, said to have been practised by females, making concentric circles on the ground, in the absence of their lovers, to ascertain as to their return, சுழிக்குங்கூடல். 3. The mouth of a river, கழிமுகம். 4 [porv.] A thick grove, commonly of palmyra trees. அடர்த்தியானதோப்பு; [ex கூடு, crowd, join.] See under the verb கூடு. கூடற்கோமான், s. The three Myrobalan or medicinal fruits, often used in Indian medicines, 1. கடுக்காய், gallnuts, Terminalia chebula; 2. நெல்லிக் காய், Phyllanthus emblica; 3. தான்றிக்காய், Terminalia bellerica. திரிபலையேனாதி, s. An electuary compounded of the three fruits and other ingredients. திரிபழுகம், s. The three delicacies, milk, பால்; clarified butter, நெய்; and honey, தேன். திரிபாகி, s. One of the மிறைக்கவி, a curious poem in which a word of three letters when taken regularity gives one meaning, and when the first, second or third letter is taken away will give in each case a different meaning. திரிபுசம், s. Triangle. (Sa. Tribhaja.) திரிபுடி, s. The three qualities, 1. ஞாதுரு, soul, ஆன்மா; 2. ஞானம், wisdom. knowledge, அறிவு; 3. ஞேயம், that which is known, அறியப்படுபொருள். திரிபுடை--திரிபுடைதாளம், s. A mode of beating time, &c. திரிபுண்டரம், s. The three lined mark of the Saiva sect, three streaks of ashes on the forehead, நெற்றியில்விபூதி. திரிபுரம், s. [in mythol.] The three cities, or castles, severally of iron, silver, and gold, floating in the sky one above another; destroyed by Siva for embracing the Jaina tenets, முப்புரம். The chiefs of the castles were, கமலன், கமலாட் சன், and விச்சுவமாலி. திரிபுரசுந்தரி, s. Parvati, பார்வதி. திரிபுரதகனன், s. (St.) Siva, சிவன்; [ex தகனன், who burnt.] திரிபுரமல்லிகை, s. (St.) A medicinal plant, apparently a kind of jasmine. திரிபுரமெரித்தான், appel. n. Siva, who burnt and destroyed திரிபுரம், சிவன். 2. A tree, நொச்சி, Vitex. 3. The மாவிலிங்கு tree. திரிபுராந்தகன், s. Siva, as destroyer of the three cities, சிவன்; [ex அந்தகன்.] திரிபுரி, s. A plant. See சாரணை. (R.) திரிபுரை, s. Triune, trinity. திரியம்பகன், s. Siva, as the threeeyed, சிவன்; sometimes Vishnu; [ex அம் பகம், eye.] திரியவத்தை--திரியாவஸ்தை, The Three states of the mind. See அவத்தை. திரியாங்கம், s. A calendar embracing three parts or members, out of the five given in the native calendars; viz.: திதி, வாரம், நட்சத்திரம். See பஞ்சாங்கம். திருயேககடவுள்--திரியேகன், s. (Chris. usage.) God the Father, the son, and the Holy Ghost, which three are one. திரிலிங்கம், s. A mode of using the hands in dancing. (See காலட்சணம்.) 2. Termination of interrogatives, impersonal pronouns, and appellatives, in the singular, வினாமுதலிய வற்றோடிணைந்த அஃறிணை ஒருமை விகுதி, as எது, which thing, இது, this thing, கரியது, that which is black. 2. Termination of the verb, in the first person singular, தன்மை ஒருமை வினை விகுதி, as யான் வருது, I will come. 3.
