அரி
ari (p. 23) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To sift, separate larger and smaller bodies with the hand, sieve, riddle, &c., கொ ழிக்க. 2. To separate rubbish from dried leaves with the hand, in order to gather the latter for fuel, சருகரிக்க. 3. To beat and wash away, as flowing water on sand, or waves on the shore, washing away the earth and leaving the pebbles, &c. behind, நீர்மணலையரிக்க. 4. To wash rice, separate dust and grit from rice, &c., by washing; or particles of gold, silver, &c., கழுவிப்பி ரிக்க. 5. To gnaw as white ants and other vermin, செல்முதலியவரிக்க. 6. To corrode, as rust, &c., cut away, as caustics, consumemar, as moths, கல்ல. 7. To tease, vex by importunity, as creditors, an urgent child, &c., மனதையலைக்க. 8. To take away one's property by little and little, சிறிதுசிறிதாக க்கவர. 9. [in arith.] To divide, பங்கிட. அரித்துப்பிடுங்குகிறான். He teases or vexes by incessant entreaties, (lit.) he stings or bites as lice. மணிகளையரித்தெடுத்தான். He separated and took the precious stones. அரிகறையான், s. A teasing person, (lit.) a gnawing white ant. அரிபிளவை, s. A cancerous formation, constantly eating into the flesh, ஓர்வகைப்பரு. அரிபுழு, s. Worms constantly grawing and causing itching irritation, &c. (c.) அரிபெட்டி, s. A sieve or cullender, சல்லடை. அரிமணல், s. Fine sand. அரிப்பு, v. noun. Sifting, separating. 2. Nibbling, gnawing, &c. 3. Itching. 4. Corrosion. 5. Smartness. (c.) அரிப்பன்--அரிப்பான்--அரிப்புக் காரன், s. A sifter, one who sifts sand in the street, or the dust of the goldsmith. அரிப்புக்கூடை, s. A riddle.
கடுமுடெனல்
kṭumuṭeṉl (p. 87) --கடுமொடெனல், v. noun. Sounding as the biting of some hard and dry things, ஒலிக்குறிப்பு. நாயெலும்பைக்கடுமுடென்றுகடிக்கின்றது. The dog makes a clatter in gnawing the bone. வயிறுகடுமொடென்றிரைகிறது. My bowels wamble.

kontu (p. 146) கிறது, கொந்தினது, ம், கொந்த, v. a. To peck, to pick, கொத்த. 2. To injure fruits by pecking, gnawing, &c., பழமுதலியனகொந்த. 3. v. n. tuṭi (p. 245) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To quiver, shake, throb, flutter, palpitate, flounder as a fish thrown ashore, அசைய. 2. To be rude, mischievous, giddy, roguish, குதிக்க. 3. To be anxious through suspense; to be eager, to be in great agitation, தத்தளிக்க. 4. To shine, glitter, corruscate, lighten, மின்ன. 5. (fig.) To suffer by the gnawings of hunger, பசியினால்வருந்த. (c.) துடித்துப்பதைத்துவந்தான். He came in extreme anxiety, and agitation. பெற்றகுடல்துடிக்கிறது. The mother yearns over her child; (lit.) her bowels yearn. அரணைவால்துடிக்கின்றது. The tail of the lizard (cut off) leaps. பிள்ளைதுடிக்கிறது. The child is fidgety, rude, &c. கண்துடிக்க, inf. To quiver or throb as the eye, supposed to be indicative of good or ill, to the person or his relations.--Note. If the right eye or other right part of a man throb, it is deemed a good sign, but of a woman it is bad and vice versa. மனந்துடிக்க, inf. To be agitated, as the mind, through anxiety, anger, disappointments. துடி, v. noun. Quivering, palpitating, dancing, &c. துடிசாத்திரம்--துடிநூல், s. The art of determining events by the quivering of different parts of the body, also works treating on the art, ஓர்நிமித்தநூல். துடிதுடிக்க, inf. To quiver, throb, flutter, பதைபதைக்க. 2. To be rude, fidgety, mischievous, கடுகடுக்க. (c.) துடித்தல்--துடிப்பு--துடிதுடிப்பு. v. noun. Quivering, throbbing, fluttering, பதைபதைப்பு. 2. Rudeness, mischief, கடு கடுப்பு. 3. Great anxiety. சரீரந்துடித்தல், v. noun. Quivering of the body, supposed to occur of itself in case of the sickness of a relative, also at the sight of one suffering, or through anger. துடியானவன், appel. n. A strong, robust man, பலாஷ்டிகன். 41)
நெஞ்சு
neñcu (p. 279) s. The mind, the heart; [in popular use.] Consciousness, thought, reason, judgment and will, மனம். 2. Conscience, மனச்சாட்சி. 3. Breast, bosom, chest, மார்பு. 4. Throat, தொண்டை. 5. (fig.) Boldness, courage, daring heroism, தைரியம். 6. Audacity, venturousness, துணிவு. (c.) மறவாதேநெஞ்சே. Forget not O my soul! எனக்குநெஞ்சைக்கரிக்கிறது. I feel a nausea in the throat. இத்தனைநெஞ்சுனக்கிருக்கிறதோ. Are you so bold? நீசெய்ததுஎன்னெஞ்சிலிருக்கிறது. What you have done is remembered. நெஞ்சிலேமிதிக்கிறான். He treats me with great disrespect. நெஞ்சைத்தட்டிப்பார். Ask your own breast. நெஞ்சையொழித்தொருவஞ்சகமில்லை. There is no fraud in which the heart is not concerned. (Avv.) உன்னெஞ்சிற்சிறாயெடுத்துப்போடுவேன். I will reduce your pride. உன்நெஞ்சுகல்நெஞ்சு. Your breast is a stony breast. நெஞ்சடைத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To be choked, or stifled in the throat. நெஞ்சடைப்பு--நெஞ்சடைவாதம், s. Obstruction in the chest, ஓர்நோய். நெஞ்சழிதல், v. noun. Failing or being overwhelmed, as the heart with sorrow, or fear. 2. Loss of consciousness, through sorrow, fear, drunkenness, &c. 3. Being overcome with lust; losing self-control. நெஞ்சறிய, inf. [as an adverb.] Consciously. நெஞ்சறியப்பொய்சொல்லலாமோ. Can you knowingly lie? நெஞ்சறிவிளக்கம், s. A treatise. நெஞ்சன், s. [in combin.] A hard-hearted person. See கன்னெஞ்சகன், வன்னெஞ்சகன். 2. [prov.] A bold, daring person, துணி வுடையோன். 3. A person of self-importance, இடும்பன். நெஞ்சாங்கட்டை, s. The breast-bone, as நெஞ்செலும்பு. 2. A log placed across the breast of a corpse to prevent its rising while burning, பிணத்தின்நெஞ்சுக்கட் டை. 3. (fig.) A plot to destroy one, தூராலோசனை. இதுவுனக்குநெஞ்சாங்கட்டைக்கோ. Is this for your breast log? a curse imprecating death. நெஞ்சாங்குலை--நெஞ்சாங்கொழுந்து, s. The viscera. 2. See குலை. நெஞ்சாங்குழி--நெஞ்சுக்குழி, s. The pit of the throat. நெஞ்சிடித்தல், v. noun. Throbbing of the heart, from fear, &c. நெஞ்சிலேகல்--நெஞ்சிற்கல், s. (fig.) A heavy calamity, பெருந்துக்கம். நெஞ்சிலேகல்லுப்போட்டீர். You have put a stone in my breast, used in lamentation for the dead. நெஞ்சிலேதெண்டல், v. noun. [prov.] Affecting the breast--as wind, spasm, or cramp, நெஞ்சிற்றடுக்க. நெஞ்சிளைக்க, inf. To become fearful, timid, cowardly. நெஞ்சிற்பாரம், s. (fig.) Burden or weight of responsibility oppressing the heart. 2. Sorrow of heart. நெஞ்சுகரிப்பு--நெஞ்சுக்கரிப்பு, v. noun. A nausea in the throat. நெஞ்சுகாய, inf. To become dry, gnawing, &c., as the breast in disease, causing thirst, &c. 2. [prov.] To faint as the heart through sorrow, fear, &c. நெஞ்சுக்கட்டு-நெஞ்சுக்கோழை, s. Pectoral disease from phlegm, as asthma. நெஞ்சுக்குத்து--நெஞ்சுவலி, s. Pain in the chest. நெஞ்சுதட்ட, inf. To tap the breast in defiance, as a challenge. 2. To tap the breast with a boast of doing an exploit. நெஞ்சுதுடித்தல், v. noun. Throbbing of the heart from fear. 2. Sympathizing with one in affliction, பரிதாபப்படல். நெஞ்சுத்தடிமல், s. Catarrh seated in the breast, cold and cough. நெஞ்சுத்துணிகரம்--நெஞ்சுத்துணிவு, s. Boldness of heart, heroism, intrepidity. நெஞ்சுநெஞ்சென்றுகுத்துதல், v. noun. Striking the breast with the tips of the fingers, in bewailing the dead, &c. See மார்படித்தல். நெஞ்சுநோ, s. Pain in the breast. 2. (fig.) Grief of heart. நெஞ்சுபக்கிடுதல், v. noun. Being struck with sudden fear or sorrow. நெஞ்சுபதறுதல், v. noun. Fluttering of the heart at the sight of a distressed object, of unjust suffering in another, or of danger of injustice to one's self. நெஞ்சுபுண்ணாக--நெஞ்சம்புண்ணாக, inf. To be grieved, wounded at heart. நெஞ்சுப்பள்ளம், s. [prov.] Pit of the stomach. நெஞ்சுரம், s. Bold-heartedness. நெஞ்சுரப்பானவன், appel. n. A hardhearted man. See உரம். நெஞ்சுவறட்சி, s. Dryness of the chest when cough causes no expectoration. நெஞ்சுவிடுதூது, s. A poem in which the heart is personified as a messenger to a lover, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். 2. One of the fourteen treatises of the Agama philosophy. See சைவசித்தாந்தம், under சித்தாந் தம். நெஞ்சுறைப்பு, s. Boldness of heart, intrepidity. நெஞ்செரிதல், v. noun. Envying, பொ றாமைப்படுதல். நெஞ்செரிப்பு, v. noun. Nausea from eating to excess, or from eating acids, sweets, &c. 2. Pain in the stomach, heart-burn. 3. (fig.) Envy, பொறாமை. நெஞ்செலும்பு, s. The sternum. See எலும்பு. நெஞ்சைக்கல்லாக்க, inf. To harden one's own or another's heart. நெஞ்சைக்குமட்டல், v. noun. Nausea. See குமட்டு. நெஞ்சைப்பிடிக்க, inf. To take by the throat. நெஞ்சைப்பிளக்க, inf. To split the breast. 2. (fig.) To cause great grief. நெஞ்சையுவட்ட, inf. To loathe. See உவட்டு, v. நெஞ்சோர்மம், s.
