āyutam (p. 40) s. A weapon, arms in general, படைக்கலம். Wils. p. 118. AYUD'HA. 2. (c.) A tool, implement, instrument கருவி. 3. (p.) Dancing place, கூத் துப்பயிலிடம். ஆயுதசாலை, s. An armory, arsenal. ஆயுதந்தரிக்க, inf. To bear arms, to be armed. ஆயுதபரிக்கை--ஆயுதபரிட்சை-ஆயுதப்பயிற்சி, s. Military exercise, the art of fencing, &c. ஆயுதபாணி, s. An armed man, one under arms. (p.) ஆயுதபூசை, s. An annual festival in September, when worship for nine days is offered to different kinds of weapons, tools, books, &c.--as a personification of Durga, Lukshmi and Sarasvati, the goddesses of war, wealth and learning; there days being appropriated to each, and no learning, or special exercise attended to, during this time, நவராத்திரி. ஆயுதவகை, s. கன்னி
kaṉṉi (p. 102) s. A virgin, a maiden, a young unmarried woman, குமரி. 2. Virgo, a sign of the zodiac, ஓரிராசி. Wils. p. 187. KANYA. 3. [in mythology] A river that flows into the sea at Cape Comorin, regarded as a sacred virgin, ஓராறு. (c.) 4. (p.) Youthfulness, tenderness, juvenility, இளமை. 5. Virginity, கற்புக்கெடாமை. 6. A woman, பெண். 7. The thirteenth lunar asterism, அத்தநாள். 8. The wild or Socotrine aloe, an evergreen, கற்றாழை. Aloe perfoliata. 9. A wild creeper, the காக்கணம். 1. Unfading, imperishable, eternal youth, freshness, vigor, evergreen, அறிவில்லாமை. 11. A female ascetic, தவப்பெண். 12. A female possessing eternal youth--spoken of the goddesses or celestial females, தெய்வப்பெண். 13. Durga, துர்க்கை. 14. A plant, காவிளை. (Rott.). கன்னிகழியாதஆண்பிள்ளை, s. A chaste youth. கன்னிக்கால், s. The first post set up in the wall of a new house facing south, decked with cloth, in imitation of a female, முதல்நாட்டுத்தம்பம். See கலியாணம். கன்னிக்கால்நாட்ட, s. To set up the first post in a large building. 2. To plant the first marriage post. கன்னிக்குட்டி, s. [prov.] The first kid of lamb. கன்னிக்கோழி, s. A pullet nearly arrived at maturity. கன்னிச்சவ்வு--கன்னிமுத்திரை, s. The hymen. கன்னித்திங்கள்--கன்னிமாதம், s. The month of September when the sun is in the sign virgo, புரட்டாசிமாதம். கன்னித்தீட்டு, s. The catamenia of a young woman, deemed impure in a higher degree than afterward. கன்னித்துவம்--கன்னிமை, s. Virginity, virgin age, கன்னித்தன்மை. கன்னிபுதன், s. Mercury in the sign virgo indicating learning in one born under its influence. கன்னிப்பருவம், s. The age of mature virginity. கன்னிப்பிள்ளைத்தாய்ச்சி, s. [prov.] A woman in her first pregnancy. கன்னிமதில், s. Imperishable fortress walls. கன்னிமார், s. Virgins, deified females who were pious virgins on earth, afterward born in deified forms, in the supernal worlds in some one of the three lower states of bliss, கன்னியர். கன்னிமையழித்தல்--கன்னியழித் தல், s. The crime of deflouring a virgin. 2. The guilt of suffering a virgin to be defloured. கன்னிமையழிய--கன்னியழிய, inf. To lose virginity, to be be defloured, கன்னிமைகெட. கன்னியழியாதபெண், s. A girl that has not lost her virginity. கா, A syllabic letter, the consonant க் and long vowel, ஆ, ஓரெழுத்து. 2. s. A pole with ropes attached on the shoulder, for carrying common burdens, or gifts to a temple, &c., காவடி. (c.) 3. (p.) A lever or beam for a well-sweep, also the lever of steel yards, scales, &c., துலாக்கோல். 4. A grove, சோலை. 5. A flower garden, பூந் தோட்டம். 6. A poetic expletive, அசைச்சொல். இவளிவட்காண்டிகா. See her here. (நன்னூ லுரை.) காக்காரர், s. [prop. காவுவோர்.] Bearers of palankeens, pole-burdens, &c., persons who carry burdens suspended from a pole on the shoulders. காத்தாடி--காத்தண்டு, s. A pole for carrying burdens, காவடித்தண்டு. காமரம், s. [prov.] A pole for carrying on the shoulder, the one used for heavy timber, காவடித்தண்டு. கற்பகக்கா, s. Indra's paradise. திருவானைக்கா, s. The name of a celebrated pagoda on the island of Sreerungam near Trichinopoly, lit. the grove of the holy elephant. 81)
கார்த்திகை
kārttikai (p. 104) s. The eighth Hindu month, being part of November and December, ஓர்மாதம்.--Note. The Saivas consider it more sacred than other months, and may abstain from animal food during the month, who at other times use it; and keep it as a season of fast in honor of the canonized pleiades, and their foster son Skanda. Wils. p. 214. KARTTIKA. 2. The third lunar asterism; the pleiades, regarded as six stars, கிருத்்திகைநட்சத்திரம். 3. The third nacshatra. 4. The day or rather the duration of time during which the moon is in the கார்த்திகை nacshatra, கார்த்தி கைநாள். 5. The November-flower plant, காந்தன், Gloriosa superba, L. 6. (சது.) Durga, துர்க்கை. கார்த்திகேயன், s. A name of the god Skanda (கந்தன்), as nursed by the pleiades in the form of nymphs; he assuming the forms of six infants, the bodies being afterwards united into one. Wils. p. 214. KARTIKEYA.. கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு, s. The root of the கார்த்திகை plant which is poisonous. It is sometimes eaten by mistake for the அல்லிக்கிழங்கு. கார்த்திகைக்கொடி, s. The Novemberflower plant, தோன்றி. கார்த்திகைக்கொள்ளி, s. [prov.] A brand waved by children in play on the evening of திருக்கார்த்திகை festival. கார்த்திகைசோமவாரம், s. The Mondays in கார்த்திகை regarded as fastdays, on which religious duties are more meritorious than in other months. கார்த்திகைதேவிமார், s. Pleiades, the goddesses. கார்த்திகைப்பூ, s. The November-flower, காந்தள்மலர். கார்த்திகைவிரதம், s. The November fast, kept in honor of Skanda, கிருத்திகைஉப வாசம். கார்த்திகைவிளக்கு, s. The November lamp-lighting on the evening of the திரு க்கார்த்திகை, when lights are placed at the door and other parts of the house, in the cow-stall, at the well, in the growing corn. &c.; commonly called விளக்கிடல் or விளக்கீடு. திருக்கார்த்திகை. The day in கார்த்திகை in which the moon enters the third nacshatra, considered a very sacred day. 145)
சரசுவதி
caracuvati (p. 166) s. Sarasvati, wife of Brahma, the goddess of speech, eloquence, music and literature, generally கலைமகள். --She is fancied to reside on the tongue of Brahma, also on those of poets and orators. (c.) 2. The name of a river, சரசுவதியாறு. 3. (fig) An amiable, excellent woman, குணவதி. W. p. 97. SARASVATI. (p.) சரசுவதிகூடம், s. A repository of books on all kinds of learning--the archives of the Indian Minerva at Tanjore. சரசுவதிபீடம், s. The Parnassus of the Hindus, where science is said to have been acquired intuitively; a term used in praise of a learned man, or in ridicule. (c.) சரசுவதிபூசை, s. The worship of Sarasvati, on the last day of Navaratri, (நவராத்திரி,) or nine night's worship, together with Durga and Lukshmi. On this occasion school-boys and others pile up their books, styles, &c., fold their arms and worship them as an image of the goddesses. (c.) சரசுவதிவாக்கு, s. [prov.] The influence of Sarasvati--regarded as supernatural, endowing a person with gifts for acquiring knowledge, composing poetry, &c., intuitively. (c.) சரசுவதிமாலை, s. The name of a work on astrology, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். சரசுவதியாறு, s. As சரசுவதி, 2. சரசுவதிநெய், s. [prov.] Medicinal ghee for improving the memory, voice, &c., and strengthening the mind for study, &c., (Limited.) 37)

nati (p. 269) s. Rivers flowing eastward, considered feminine, கிழக்கோடுமாறு, பெண்ணாறு. 2. River in general, ஆற்றின்பொது. (Sa. Nadi.) 3. Seven special rivers regarded as sacred or as goddesses. 1. கங்கை, Ganges. 2. யமுனை, Jumna. 3. சரச்சுவதி, Sarasvati. 4. நரு மதை, Nerbudda. 5. காவேரி, Cavari. 6. குமரி, Comorin. 7. கோதாவரி, Godavari. Another classification makes eleven adding to the above. 8. சிந்து, Indus. 9. தாமிர வருணி. 1. துங்கபத்திரி. 11. கிருட்டிணை, Krishna. நதிக்கரை, s. Bank of a river, ஆற்றங் கரை. நதிசரம், s. (St.) An elephant produced on the banks of a river, ஆற்றுச் சார்பிற்பிறந்தயானை. (சது.) நதிதீரம், s. (St.) As நதிக்கரை. நதிபதி, s. Sea, as நதாதிபதி. நதியாட, inf. [com. நதியிலேமுழுக.] To bathe in a river, commonly in a sacred river. 13)

puñcvṉm (p. 322) s. A ceremony observed on the third lunar month after conception, or when quickening takes place, கருக்கொ ண்டமூன்றாம்திங்களிற்செய்கருமம். W. p. 539. PUMSAVANA. 2. A symbolic ceremony, to promote conception in which images of gods and goddesses are brought together, and conception feigned, கருத்தரித்தற்குச்செய் யும்பூசைக்குறி. 33) *
பூசை
pūcai (p. 329) s. Worship, homage to superiors, or adoration of the gods, with the proper ceremonies, ஆராதனை. W. p. 548. POOJA. 2. Food, eatables, given to religious mendicants, மயேசுரபூசை. 3. [ironically.] A good flogging, அடி.-- Note. பூசை is two-fold: 1. அந்தரியாகபூசை, internal or mental worship; 2. பகிரியாகபூசை, external worship. The four special seasons for the கிரியாபூசை, at the temples are பிராதக் காலம், at dawn; 2. மாத்தியானிகம், at midday; 3. சாயங்காலம், at sunset; 4. அர்த்த சாமம், at midnight. Two other seasons are observed in some temples, at nine in the morning, and nine at night. பூசாகாலம், s. Time of offering puja, ஆராதனைவேளை. பூசாசாரி, s. A priest, one who offers puja, at small fanes not Brahmanical; an exorcist. See பூசாரி. பூசாபலம்--பூசாபலன், s. Merit of puja. பூசாபலன்பண்ணினவன், appel. n. One who receives in the present life, the reward of merit in a former state. பூசாமுகம்--பூசைமுகம், s. Presence of the puja. பூசாவிதி, s. A directory for puja. பூசைகாண, inf. To attend on or be present at, the performance of puja. பூசைகொடுக்க, inf. To give eatables to religious mendicants. 2. [in irony.] To give a good flogging. பூசைத்திரவியம், s. Materials for puja. பூசைநைவேத்தியம், s. puja and oblations. பூசைபண்ண, inf. To perform puja. பூசைபுனர்சமஸ்காரம், s. A repetition of a ritual ceremony. பூசைபோட, inf. To offer puja to the cruel gods or goddesses. 2. To give one a flogging. 3. To consume food, &c. பூசைப்பரிசாரகன், s. An assistant to the officiating priest. பூசைப்பெட்டி, s. A basket for puja utensils. பூசைமணி, s. A hand bell, rung during the performance of puja. பூசைமேடை--பூசைக்குறடு, s. A raised place for the idol when puja is performed. பூசைவேளை, s.
