aḷḷu (p. 33) கிறேன், அள்ளினேன், வேன், அள்ள, v. a. To take up a handful, lade, bale, take up in the hollow of the hand-as water, sand, grain, &c., கையான்முகக்க. 2. To sweep away as a flood, carry off in large quantities or great numbers as an epidemic, famine, thief, &c., to ravage, plunder, pillage, spoil, devastate, வாரிக் கொள்ள. (c.) அள்ளாதுகுறையாது சொல்லாது பிறவாது. If nothing be taken, nothing will be wanting; if nothing be spoken, nothing will be rumored; i. e. there is no rumor however vague, but has some truth in it. அரிசியள்ளுகிறகாகம்போலே திரிகிறான். He wanders about as greedy (of gain) as the crow is of the rice which it steals. கையையள்ளிப்போட்டது. It has grazed or taken off the skin of my hand (whether a bow, hot iron, or any thing else.) அள்ளிக்கொட்ட, inf. To take up from a quantity and shoot down elsewhere. 2. To give liberally. அள்ளிருள், s. Thick darkness, or darkness so dense that it may be grasped. அள்ளுகொள்ளை, s. Great waste, profusion, extravagance or taking more than what is right, பெருங்கொள்ளை. அள்ளு, v. noun. A handful of grain, &c., given to the man who measures, அளவுகூலித்தானியம். அள்ளெடுக்கிறவன், s. The man who receives the handful of grain for measuring. அள்ளுதல், v. noun. Being narrow, close, நெருங்கல். 2. Taking up a handful of water, rice, grain, &c., getting water in a basket, pot, &c., taking out rice, milk, &c., by a spoon from a cup, &c., அள்ளுகை. 43)

iṭukku (p. 45) கிறேன், இடுக்கினேன், வே ன், இடுக்க, v. a. To press as between two boards, நெருக்க. 2. To pinch, இடுக்கிப்பிடிக் க. 3. To take between the fingers, toes, &c., to grasp--as a crab, with its claws; to lay hold of--as with pincers, to take under arms or between two things, குறடுமுதலிய வற்றாலிடுக்க. அவள்பிள்ளையையிடுக்கிக்கொண்டுவந்தாள். She came with her child on the hip, holding him under the arm. பொருளையிடுக்கிப்பிடிக்கிறான். He holds his property very stingily, tenaciously. இடுக்கி, s. Pincers, tongs, forceps, tweezers, nippers, குறடு. 2. A stingy, parsimonious person, a niggard, உலோபி. முள்ளிடுக்கி, s. Pincers to draw out thorns from the feet. இடுக்கிடை, s. Closeness, narrowness, நெருக்கம். இடுக்குதடி, s. A double stick used to press things with--as that of a toddy-drawer to press the flower or fruit-stem of the palmyra, &c. இடுக்குபனை, s. [prov.] Palmyra trees from which toddy is drawn. இடுக்குபிள்ளை, s. A child in arms carried on the hip, கக்கத்திலிடுக்கும்பருவமு டையபிள்ளை. இடுக்குமரம், s. A kind of oilpress, எண்ணெயூற்றுமரம். இடுக்கம், v. noun. Closeness, confinement, narrowness, நெருக்கம். 2. Affliction, adversity, straits, இடுக்கண். இடுக்கப்பட, inf. To become narrow, close, confined, ஒடுக்கப்பட. 2. To be oppressed, be persecuted, to suffer, துன்பப்பட. இடுக்கப்படுத்த, inf. [caus.] To make narrow, close, &c., நெருக்க. 2. To oppress, persecute, distress, துன்பப்படுத்த. 97)

irāku (p. 50) s. The ascending node regarded as one of the nine planets in the form of a monstrous serpent or dragon, which, with கேது the descending node, is feigned to grasp the sun and moon and thus to cause eclipses, கரும்பாம்பு. Wils. p. 75. RAHU. இராகுகாலம், s. An inauspicious portion of time containing an hour and a half, occurring daily, being that part which is under the influence of இராகு. 7)

iṟuku (p. 57) கிறது, இறுகினது, ம், இறுக, v. n. To become tight--as a bandage, knot, &c., to be strained, be close, hard, compact, &c.--as land dried by the sun, அழுந்த. 2. To grow thick in consistency, to coagulate, to be inspissated, be clotted, உறைய. 3. To congeal, become hard--as wax, metals, &c., to become dry--as mortar, clay, &c., கட்டியாக. 4. To become firm--as a loose tooth, பெலக்க. 5. To be close, rich, luxuriant--as growing corn, fruitful trees, &c., செறிய. எண்மண்டையிறுகிப்போயிற்று. My head feels day (needing oil and bathing). சளியிறுகிற்று. The phlegm (in the throat) is become hard. இறுகக்கட்ட, inf. To brace or fasten tight, close, compact, &c., அழுந் தக்கட்ட. இறுகத்தழுவ, inf. To hug, embrace closely, இறுகவணைக்க. இறுகப்பிசைய, inf. To knead hard, make close by kneading, அழுந்தப்பி சைய. இறுகப்பிடிக்க, inf. To hold fast, grasp tight, அழுந்தப்பிடிக்க. 2. To be stingy, parsimonious, tenacious, செலவு செய்யாதிருக்க. இறுகவிறுக, [adverbially.] Very tight, drawn tighter and tighter, அழுந்த வழுந்த. இறுகினகை, s. Close-fistedness, parsimony, ஈயாதகை. இறுகினதேகம், s. A firm, compact body. இறுகினமனம், s. An unrelenting heart, a close or parsimonious mind. இறுக்கம், v. noun. Tightness, closeness, compactness, hardness, tenacity, அழுத்தம். 2. Closeness of weather, sultriness, ஒடுக்கம். 3. Parsimoniousness, niggardliness, tenaciousness, கையழுத்தம். 4. Strictness, rigidness, pressure, நெருக்கம். இறுக்கமானகாலம், s. Sultry weather. 2. Hard times. 23)

utṟu (p. 60) கிறேன், உதறினேன், வேன், உதற, v. a. To shake off, throw off by shaking, to shake a thing, especially a cloth; to shake the feet, hands, &c.; to shake itself --as an animal; to shake the head--as a dog having something in its mouth, உதறிப் போட. 2. To shake or thrust off a person, animal or thing that adheres to one; to extricate one's self from another in wrestling by shaking, pushing, &c., விதிர்க்க. 3. To shake off a business, affairs, office, &c., தள்ளிவிட. 4. To snatch or wrest one's self from the grasp of another. (See திமிற.) 5. (fig.) To renounce friends and social life for the desert--as an ascetic, நீக்க. 6. To strike--as the hands, feet, &c. through pain, grief, fear, anger, &c., துக்கமுதலியவற் றாற்கைவிதிர்க்க. 7. v. n. To shake with ague, fever, palsy, &c., நடுங்க. உதறிக்கொண்டுபோகிறான். He is refractory. இனஞ்சனம்யாவையுமுதறிவிட்டுப்போனான். He has utterly renounced his relations and friends--as a devotee, or to form other connections. என்வார்த்தையையுதறிவிடாதே. Do not reject what I say. உதறிமுறிப்பான், s. The விஷ்ணு காந்தை plant, Spharanthus Indicus. உதறுகாலி, s. A cow that kicks, or twitches away its leg and will not be milked, உதறுகாற்பசு. 2. A woman that shakes her feet in walking, உதறுகாற் பெண்--such a woman is supposed to bring evil upon her children and household. உள்ளதையுங்கெடுத்தாளுதறுகாலிவந்து. When this woman who shakes her feet in walking joined the family she destroyed all its wealth. கையையுதற, inf. To shake the hands when under the influence of strong emotion, especially grief. 4) *

ūṉṟu (p. 72) கிறேன், ஊன்றினேன், வே ன், ஊன்ற, v. a. To plant, set, fix, place firmly, rest upon with pressure--as a pole in propelling, fixing a boat, a musket, a lever, &c., நிறுத்த. 2. To lay down premises in an argument, நியாயத்திற்குமூலத்தைஸ்தாபிக்க. 3. To grasp, hold, strike root as trees, gain a firm footing, become established in a place, இறுகப்பிடிக்க. 4. v. n. To lean upon, recline, or depend on a staff, a person, &c., சார. 5. To be steadfast, firm, intent upon, உறுதியாய்நிற்க. ஊன்றக்கொடுத்ததடியென்னுச்சியையுடைக்கிறது. The staff which I gave him to lean upon, breaks my head; i. e. the good I have done him has turned out evil. கையூன்றிக்கரணம்போடவேண்டும். To tumble, the hands must be fixed on the ground; i. e. nothing can be done without money, means, &c. மழையூன்றிப்பேய்கிறது. It rains hard or incessantly. மேகங்காலூன்றிமழைபெய்தது. The clouds resting on the horizon poured down torrents. நிலத்திற்சிக்கெனவூன்றியவேர். Roots stuck firmly in the ground. ஒத்தகடப்பாட்டிற்றாளுன்றியெய்து. Exerting themselves in their proper calling. ஊன்றக்கட்ட, inf. To edify, ratify. ஊன்றிக்கேட்க, inf. To interrogate with much emphasis, press for an answer, உறுதியாய்வினாவ. 2. To hear attentively, கருத்தாய்ச்செவிகொடுக்க. ஊன்றிக்கொள்ள inf. To gain a firm footing in a place, office, &c.; to establish one's self, நிலைபெற. 2. To lean or depend upon, சார்ந்திருக்க. ஊன்றிச்சொல்ல, inf. To speak, or pronounce with distinct articulation, உறுதியாய்ச்சொல்ல. ஊன்றித்தாங்க, inf. To press on a pole in stopping, or poling a boat, ஊன்றித்தள்ள. ஊன்றிநடக்க, inf. To walk cautiously, firmly, &c.--as on slippery ground. 2. To walk firmly as one regaining the use of his limbs. 3. To walk with a firm foot so as to secure a quick pace. கோலையூன்றிக்கொண்டுநடக்கிறான். He walks with the assistance of a staff. ஊன்றிப்படிக்க, inf. To read poetry with proper pauses. 2. To sing with proper articulation, emphasis, &c. ஊன்றிப்பார்க்க, inf. To look steadfastly, intently, &c., நோக்கிப்பார்க்க. 2. To consider a thing maturely, to fix the mind intently on the object of consideration, ஆராய்ந்துபார்க்க. 3. To feel, try--as a fruit, &c., pressing it with the hand, கையினாலழுத்திப்பார்க்க. ஊன்றிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To seize firmly, hold tight, இறுகப்பிடிக்க. 2. To mark faults severely, கூர்மையாய்க்குற்றம் பிடிக்க. 3. To hold fast an opinion, பிடி வாதமாயிருக்க. ஊன்றிப்பேச, inf. To speak emphatically or forcibly, உறுதியாய்ப்பேச. இந்தநியாயத்திலூன்றிப்பேசு. Urge this argument, insist upon it. ஊன்றிப்போட, inf. To confirm an opinion, accusation, evidence, &c., ஸ்திரப்படுத்திவிட. ஊன்றிமிதிக்க, inf. To tread cautiously--as one on a well-beam, step firmly, steadily, &c. ஊன்றியெழுத, inf. To press or indent well in writing. ஊன்றிவைக்க, inf. To establish a family. 2. To settle one in life, business, &c. 3. to confirm, settle one in an opinion in a slight degree. ஊன்றுகால், s. A stay, a prop, உதைகால். ஊன்றுகோல், s. A staff, a walking stick, a support, பற்றுக்கோடு. எழுத்தையூன்ற, inf. To put a point over a letter which makes it mute. நாற்றையூன்ற, inf. To set plants.

eṭṭu (p. 73) கிறேன், எட்டினேன், வேன், எட்ட, v. a. To stretch forth, to reach after, தாவ. 2. [with the dative.] To be obtained, be got, to be caught, அகப்பட. எட்டாதபூதேவனுக்கு. The flower that is out of reach is dedicated to God. [prov.] மனோவாக்குக்கெட்டாதது. What is incomprehensible or unutterable. கைக்கெட்டினதுவாய்க்கெட்டாமற்போயிற்று. The mouth did not get what the hand had reached--I almost got it, but it escaped my grasp. The fates were against me, &c. --spoken in cases of disappointment, &c. கண்ணுக்கெட்டினமட்டும். As far as the eye can see. எனக்கெட்டாது. I cannot reach it. 2. I cannot get it. 2. I cannot comprehend it. கிணற்றுக்கிந்தக்கயிறெட்டாது. This rope is not long enough for the well. எட்ட, inf. [used adverbially.] Far, far off, further, away, aloof, தூரமாக. எட்டநட. Step on, step out. எட்டப்போ--எட்டிப்போ. Go further. எட்டக்கட்ட, inf. To keep away, தூரமாக. மழையெட்டக்கட்டிவிட்டது. The rain has kept off a long time. எட்டவிட, inf. To communicate, inform. அவனுக்கிந்தச்சொல்லையெட்டவிடு. Communicate this news to him. எட்டாக்கை, s. A very distant place, not near enough to be serviceable. எட்டாதபொருள், s. Things incomprehensible--as the Divine being, mysteries, &c. எட்டுமட்டும்பார்க்க, inf. To endeavor as much as one can; to reach or attain a thing. எட்டிப்பறிக்க, inf. To reach and pluck. எட்டிப்பார்க்க, inf. To peep, look over a wall, &c. 2. To make an effort, to reach a point or thing. எட்டினர், s. Friends, adherents, partisans, சிநேகிதர். (p.) 37)

oḷvu (p. 84) கிறேன், ஔவினேன், வேன், ஔவ, v. a. To grasp or seize, or take hold with the mouth, to bite off, கடித்துப்பி டிக்க. 2. To graze, rub off the skin. burn or scald so as to excoriate, அழுந்தியெடுக்க. --Note. The meaning is similar to கௌவ, but less intense. ஓவியம், s. A picture, a portrait, சித் திரம். 2. A statue, a puppet, பிரதிமை. (p.) ஓவியத்துறைகைபோயவொருவன். One practised in painting-- (நைட.) ஓவியமானபிள்ளை, s. A very dear and beloved child. ஓவியர், s. Painters, sculptors, artists, சித்திரகாரர். 2. Mechanics, artificers, smiths, கம்மாளர். (p.) 145)

kṭi (p. 87) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To bite, bite off, crop, gnaw, nibble, grasp with, or hold in the mouth, to champ, பல்லாற்கறிக்க. 2. To hurt, pinch, gall --as new shoes, a new ring, &c., செருப்புமு தலியகாலையழுத்த. காதையிந்தக்கடுக்கன்மிகக்கடிக்கிறது. This earring pinches my ear very much. காலைச்செருப்புக்கடித்துப்போட்டது. The sandal has galled my foot. கையைக்கடியாமலிருக்கப்பார்க்கிறார். He takes care that the expense shall not fall on himself. சற்றுப்பல்லைக்கடித்துக்கொண்டிரு. Be patient, hold still a little, lit. bite your teeth and be still. ஒருமனிதனைக்கடித்துப்பிடுங்கலாமோ. Should one fall foul on a person and compel him? முயிறுகடித்துப்பிடித்துக்கொண்டது. The red ant is biting me, has laid fast hold of me. கடிநாய், s. A vicious, snappish dog, கடிக்கிறநாய். 2. (fig.) A surly person, a cynic, துஷ்டன். கடிப்பான், s. Condiment, a sauce, கறி. கடிவாளம், s. A bridle, கலினம். கடிவாளம்போடுதல்--கடிவாளம்மா ட்டுதல், v. noun. Bridling a horse. கடிவாளம்வாங்க--கடிவாளங்கழற்ற, inf. To unbridle. கடிவாளம்வெட்டுதல், v. noun. Slackening and pulling in the reins. கடிவாளவார், s. Reins of a bridle. கடி, v. noun. Biting, கடிக்கை. 2. A bite, கடித்தவடு. கடிபிடி, v. noun. [vul.] Scuffle, snarling, biting, &c. கடிவாய், s. The lips of a wound occasioned by a bite. கடிவாய்வடு, s. The scar remaining after a wound caused by a bite, a cicatrice. காணாக்கடி, s. The bite of an insect, &c., concealed. பொய்க்கடி, s. A bite which does not hurt--as that of a dog in play. 48)

kṭai (p. 88) s. End, extremity, termination, conclusion, முடிவு. 2. A shop, bazaar, market, அங்காடி. 3. (p.) Inferiority, baseness, meanness, lowness, the least, lowest, or worst kind, &c., கீழ்மை. 4. Way, வழி. 5. Termination of a particle, வினையெச்சவி குதி. 6. Place, room, இடம். 7. A form of the seventh case used also with verbs, to express if, when, after, &c., ஏழனுருபு. 8. A door, a gate-way, வாயில். 9. The outer gate, புறவாயில். 1. The clasp or other fastening of a neck-ornament, பணிப்பூட்டு. 11. Side, பக்கம். நீத்தக்கடை. If he leave-- (குறள்.) ஈதலியையாக்கடை. If it be not possible to bestow-நள்ளிமுதற்கிள்ளிகடையாக. From Nalli to Killi (reigned sixty-four kings called சோழர்). நாயிற்கடையாநாயேனை. Me who am the most degraded of dogs-அவன்கடைச்சென்றான். He approached him. கடைகட்ட, inf. To close a shop, கடைசாத்த. 2. To suspend a work, to discontinue, to make an end of--spoken diminutively. கடைகாப்பாளர்--கடைகாவலர், s. Door-keepers, porters, வாயில்காப்போர். கடைகெட்டவன், s. [vul.] An abandoned person, a wretch, முழுதுங்கெட் டவன். கடைக்கண், s. The outside corner of the eye, கட்கடை. 2. A benign look, கடாட்சம். கடைக்கண்கிடைக்கவேண்டும். I am anxious to get a propitious look, glance of your eye. கடைக்கண்ணாற்பார்க்க, inf. To glance, look sidewise. 2. To cast a propitious or benignant look. கடைக்கண்பார்வை, v. noun. A side look, a glance. 2. A propitious or benignant look, approbation, a token of favor. கடைக்கனல்--கடையனல், s. The final deluge-fire, ஊழித்தீ. கடைக்காப்பு, s. The last verse in the poem called பதிகம்--as an invocation, &c. கடைக்காரன், s. A shop-keeper. கடைக்குடல், s. The lower part of the bowels, கீழ்க்குடர். கடைக்குட்டி, s. The youngest child, a term of fondness, கடைப்பிள்ளை. கடைக்குறை, s. Elision in the termination of a word--as கோல், for கோ லம். கடைக்கூட்ட, inf. To effect, to produce a result--as the actions of a former birth are supposed to do, வினைப் பயனுறுவிக்க. 2. To unite man and wife, or a male and female of the brute creation, as former deeds are imagined to do. கடைக்கூழை, s. A species of rhyme, ஓர்தொடை. 2. The rear division of an army, படைப்பின்னணி. See கூழை. கடைக்கொள்ளி, s. A fire-brand burnt to the end, குறைக்கொள்ளி. கடைக்கோடி, s. [vul.] The very extremity, the utmost limit, ஈறு. கடைசால், s. [prov.] The finishing of a business, முடிவு. 2. Stern of a vessel--also written கடையால். கடைசாலொதுக்க, inf. To finish a business in hand. கடைச்சங்கம், s. The third and last of the ancient Madura colleges consisting of forty-nine literati, இறுதிச்சங் கம். கடைச்சரக்கு, s. Curry stuff, spices, &c., drugs, medicines, &c., sold in the bazaar, கடையில்விற்கப்படுஞ்சரக்கு. கடைச்சன், s. The youngest son, கடைப்பிள்ளை. கடைஞர், s. The laboring caste in agricultural districts, மருதநிலமாக்கள். கடைதலைப்பூட்டு, s. An inverted construction in poetry, by which the last word in a verse is connected with the first, விற்பூட்டுப்பொருள்கோள். கடைதிறப்பு, v. noun. Opening a door. In erotics, the section which relates to an application made for the opening of a door to a coming or expected lover; or in war poems, to a warrior returning in triumph after a victory, கதவுதிறக்கை. (p.) கடைத்தடம், s. Gate-way, வாயில். (p.) கடைத்தரம், s. The last class, the lowest or worst kind, கீழ்த்தரம். கடைத்தலை--கடைத்தலைவாயில்-கடைத்தலைவாய்தல், s. The outer gate, the outer court or yard, தலைவாயில். கடைத்தெரு, s. A market-street, a bazaar, கடைவீதி. கடைத்தேற, inf. [prop. கடத்தேற.] To be saved, to escape all afflictions. கடைத்தேற்றம், s. [prop. கடத்தேற் றம்.] Salvation. கடைநாள்--கடைமீன், s. The twenty-seventh lunar asterism, இரேவதி. (p.) கடைநிலை, s. A poem uttered by holy persons coming from a distance to the hero of the poem at the door of whose residence they stand and desire the door-keeper to inform his master of their arrival, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். (See பிரபந்தம்.) 2. An outside door, புறவாயில். (நீதிநெறி.) 3. The last letter of a word or verse, ஈற்றெழுத்து. (p.) கடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. A word at the end of a sentence understood in other parts--one of the தீவகம். கடைநிலையளபெடை, s. The rhyme in which the last letter of each verse is lengthened. கடைநிலையெழுத்து, s. [in grammar.] Letters proper to end a word, இறுதிநிலை. கடைபோக, inf. To end, terminate, conclude, முடிய. 2. To be fulfilled, நிறைவேற. கடைபோட--கடைவைக்க, inf. To set up a shop, open a shop. கடைப்பட, inf. To be inferior, below mediocrity, to be last in quality or estimation, degree or order, இழிவாக. 2. To be practicable, capable of completion, நிறைவேற. என்னாலிதுகடைப்படாது. This will not be completed by me. கடைப்பாடு, s. Determination, தீர் மானிப்பு. 2. Inferiority, baseness, இழிவு. கடைப்பந்தி, s. The lower end of a dining table or of a row of guests, கடைசிப்பந்தி. கடைப்பிடி, s. Bearing in mind, remembering, ஞாபகம். 2. Indelible impressions of gratitude for benefits received, of duties to be performed, of the importance of virtue and religion, மறவா மை. 3. Certainty, ascertainment, established truth, தேற்றம். 4. Firm belief in the essentials of religion serving as the hope and support of the mind in reference to a future state, the last grasp of the soul, உறுதி. 5. Firm determination, firm resolve, either for good or evil, கரும முடிக்குந்துணிவு. 6. Doctrines, truth firmly believed as necessary to salvation, உறுதி யானகொள்கை. கடைப்பிடிக்க, inf. To ascertain clearly, to know certainly, தெளிய. 2. To determine, resolve firmly, be decided in purpose either in a good or evil course, துணிய. 3. To remember, to bear in mind benefits, to be grateful, &c., to be deeply sensible of one's obligations for favor received, மறவாமலிருக்க. 4. To have an abiding sense of the importance of virtue and religion, சன்மார்க்கத்திலுறுதியாயி ருக்க. 5. To have an unwavering faith in the essentials of religion, to embrace or take firm hold of religious instructions, &c., தேவபத்தியிலுறுதியாயிருக்க. 6. To grasp, resort to--as the soul for its last refuge, பற்ற. 7. To provide, be provident, be economical, வீண்செலவுசெய்யாது வைக்க. (p.) கதவிலரேதற்சார்ந்தார்வண்ணங்கடைப்பிடியாதார். Unkind are they who are forgetful of the situation of their friends. (காரிகையுரை.) மற்றதன்கள்ளங்கடைப்பிடித்தனன்று. It is important to have an abiding sense of the wiles of Yama. வாழ்க்கைக்குவேண்டும்பொருளறிந்துகடைப்பிடி த்தலும். Knowing and duly providing all things necessary for her household-(குறளுரை.) நன்மைகடைப்பிடி. Persevere in good works. (ஔவை). கடைப்பிறப்பு, s. The meanest species of birth in any class of beings, இழிந்தபிறப்பு. கடைப்புணர்முரண்--கடைமுரண், s. A species of rhyme when the last foot of every line is of opposite meaning, ஓர்தொடை. கடைப்புணர்வு--கடைப்பூட்டு, s. [in jewelry.] Clasp, hasp, அணியின்கடைப் புணர்வு. கடைப்புத்தி, s. [prov.] Stupidity, இழிந்தபுத்தி. 2. A piece of folly, பின்புத்தி. கடைப்போக்கு, s. The flood-gate of tank. கடைமடக்கு, s. [in rhetoric.] Continued recurrence of the same words at the end of each line through a stanza, but with different meanings, சொல்லணி யிலொன்று. See மடக்கு. கடைமுறை, s. [in grammar.] The penultimate, ஈற்றயல். (p.) கடையர், s. (fem. கடைசியர்--க டைச்சியர்.) Laboring classes in agricultural districts, மருதநிலமாக்கள். (p.) கடையழிய, inf. To be afflicted with a painful and lingering disease, to suffer extremely, வருந்த. 2. To be distressed with poverty, வறுமையுற. 3. To degenerate, கேடுற. கடையனல், s. The fire by which the world will finally be consumed. கடையன், s. A man of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோன். கடையாகெதுகை, s. A rhyme, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையாட்டம், s. [prov.] Lingering in disease, excessive suffering from disease, வருத்தம். 2. Vexation, teasing, imminence, trouble, annoyance, உலைவு, lit. mean work. கடையாட்டப்பட, inf. To drudge, to be employed in mean work. 2. To linger in disease, suffer exceedingly, வ ருந்த. 3. To be vexed. harassed. &c.-as a nurse by troublesome children, உ லைய. கடையாணி, s. A linch-pin, அச் சாணி. 2. A peg or pin used to keep a tenon in a mortise, or for any similar purpose, பூட்டாணி. கடையாந்தரம்--கடையீறு, s. [vul.] The very last, the extremity, &c.--as கடைசி. கடையாயார், s. Persons of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோர். கடையால், s. Stern of a vessel, தோணியின்பிற்புறம். See கடைசால், usage. கடையிணைமுரண், s. A rhyme when the last two feet of a line are of opposite meanings, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையிணைமோனை, s. A consonance of the first letters in the last two feet of each line in a verse. (p.) கடையீடு, s. Land of the poorest quality, கடைத்தரமானநிலம். கடையுணி, s. [prov.] A mean fellow who eats what he can beg or pick up-- a worthless being, இழிந்தோன். கடையுண்ண, inf. [prov.] To linger in disease, வருத்தப்பட. 2. To be stinted or weak in growth--as a child, நசுங்க. 3. To be neglected, abused, &c.-- as a book, a utensil, &c.; in this meaning it is a term of displeasure, இகழப்பட. கடையுவா, s. The full moon, பௌரணை. (p.) கடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The twelfth asterism in which Saturn is considered malignant in his influence, உத்திரம். See சனி. கடைவழி, s. Final salvation, the last path. கடைவழிக்குதவும். It will avail for the salvation of the soul. காதற்றஊசியும்வாராதுகாணுங்கடைவழிக்கே. Be assured that even an eyeless needle will not accompany you in that sad hour. கடைவளர, inf. To be enlarged-said of the genitals of a cow, &c., before yeaning, ஈனுங்காலத்திற்குறிவிரிய. கடைவள்ளல், s. The last of the third class of liberal men--he who bestows charity from motives of ostentation, கேட்டபின்கொடுப்போன். கடைவாய், s. The corner or extremities of the mouth, வாயின்கடை. கடைவாய்நக்கி, s. A great miser, உலுத்தன், lit. he who licks the corners of his mouth. கடைவாய்ப்பல், s. The double teeth, the grinders, the back teeth. கடைவாய்வழிய, inf. To drivel at the corners of the mouth--as old people or persons asleep, வாய்நீரொழுக. கடைவிரிக்க, inf. To spread out goods for sale in a shop or market, கடைதிறக்க. கடைவீதி, s. A market-street. கடைவைக்க, inf. To place goods for sale in a shop or bazaar. 2. To open a shop on an auspicious day after the new-year, கடைதிறக்க. பலசரக்குக்கடை, s. A shop where commodities of various kinds are sold. மளிகைக்கடை, s. A wholesale ware-house. காசுக்கடை, s. An exchange. அடிக்கடை, s. The first shop in a market-street. மருந்துக்கடை, s. An apothecary's shop. கசாய்க்கடை, s. (Tel.) A butcher's shop. சாராயக்கடை, s. An arrack shop. கீரைக்கடை, s. A green-grocer's shop. சவுளிக்கடை, s. A cloth-merchant's shop. விரற்கடை, s. If you persist in thus traducing me, you will have a boil in your throat; i. e. you will be seriously distressed--a curse. கட்டாக்காலி, s. An ox or cow suffered to run wild, or not folded by night. கட்டாணி, s. a fastening for a female ear-ring, கடைப்பூட்டாணி. கட்டிக்காக்க, inf. To preserve, guard, to protect. கட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To give a daughter in marriage. 2. To make, build, construct, &c., and give one. கட்டிக்கொள்ள, inf. To take in marriage. 2. To hug, to embrace. 3. To contract, to lay up, to accumulate as moral deeds, virtue or vice, for future retribution. 4. To throw the arms round a person, to hug, to embrace, to grasp, to seize. கட்டிப்புகுந்தவள், s. A widow that has married again. கட்டியடிக்க, inf. To tie and flog, whip, &c., கட்டுகரை, s. A mole, a pier to defend shipping in a harbor. கட்டுசரக்கு, s. Mercury, &c., consolidated. கட்டுத்தாலிகட்ட, inf. To marry a widow. 2. To take a woman to wife-this may be done, if the man has no child by his first wife, with her consent, who acknowledges its validity by tying the marriage symbol round the neck of the new bride. தன்னைக்கட்ட, inf.
