uriñu (p. 64) --உரிஞ்சு, கிறேன், உரிஞி னேன்--உரிஞ்சினேன், வேன், உரிஞ--உரிஞ்ச, v. n. and a. To rub one's self, rub as beasts, chafe, உராய. 2. To become rubbed or grazed against a thing, to be bruised, excoriated, grazed off, &c., தேய. 3. To rub against one another--as trees, உரோச. 4. To rub away, wear away by rubbing, grind away --as sandal, to triturate, அரைக்க. (p.) நறுங்குறடுரிஞ்சுபூந்தேய்வை. The soft paste produced by triturating the fragrant sandal wood. uraicu (p. 65) --உரைஞ்சு, கிறேன், உரை சினேன்--உரைஞ்சினேன், வேன், உரைச--உரைஞ் ச, (உரைஞ்சு, is a cor. of உரிஞ்சு,) v. n. To rub one's self against a thing, to rub as beasts against a post, &c., to chafe, உரிஞ. 2. To wear away by use--as the feet by walking, as a seat by sitting, &c., தேய. 3. v. a. To rub hard, scour, scrape, or scratch --as with the back of a nail, to brush, clean off, or waste away by rubbing, தேய்க்க. 4. To graze, gall, bruise by grazing, சீக்க. cāy (p. 178) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To cause to incline, lean, slope, &c., to tilt up, or raise on one side, சாயச்செய்ய. 2. To turn or give a new direction to a body of men; to drive, take away a herd or a single beast, ஓட்டிக்கொண்டுபோக. 3. To cause to recline, or lie down, உடலைச்சாய்க்க. 4. To cast, to run metals in bars, in the rough, &c., to be wrought afterward, உருக் கிச்சாய்க்க.--Note. The addition of கொள்ள gives a reflective sense to the verb in this, and similar cases. (c.) 5. [loc.] To steer a vessel toward the shore, கரையடுத்தோட்ட. 6. To bias or prejudice one, to excite or induce partiality, to warp, to turn, மனஞ் சாயப்பண்ண. 7. (p.) To rout, discomfit, defeat, to kill in battle, தோற்கப்பண்ண. சாய்த்துக்கொண்டுநடத்தல், v. noun. Walking in a leaning posture. (c.) செவிசாய்க்க, inf. To incline the ear, to give attention--as a deity or great person. மாடுசாய்க்க, inf. To drive cows or bullocks for grazing. தலைசாய்க்க, inf. To bow the head in obeisance, or reverence. 2. To hang the head, through discontent and disapprobation, தலைகவிள. கப்பல்சாய்த்தோட்டுதல், v. noun. Causing a ship, in sailing, to lean over. காரியத்திற்சாய்த்துவிட, inf. [prov.] To connive at a thing, சாடையாயிருக்க. 2. To be indulgent to a person. வெட்டிச்சாய்க்க, inf. To cut down a tree. 2. (fig.) To kill one outright. 18)

The metrical connection of the last syllable of any foot with the first of the succeeding, one of the six செய்யுளுறுப்பு, வரு ஞ்சீரின் முதலசை யொன்றியுமொன்றாமலுங்கூடிநிற்பது. --Note. The poetic தளை are of seven kinds embracing four classes. I. ஆசிரி யத்தளை. connexion of ஆசிரியம் verse of two species. 1. நேரொன்றாசிரீயத்தளை, combination of simple syllables in the ஆசிரியம் connexion, or of one simple ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. 2. நிரையொன்றாசிரியத்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or the connexion of one compound ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. II. வெண்டளை, connexion of வெண் பா verse, also of two species. 1. வெண்சீர் வெண்டளை, combination of genuine வெண்சீர் foot, or of one வெண்சீர் foot with another foot, biginning with a simple syllable 2. இயற்சீர்வெண்டளை, combination of simple, or ஆசிரியம் feet, or connexion of an ஆசிரியம் foot ending with a compound syllable with another foot beginning with a simple syllable, or vice versa. III. கலித்தளை, connexion of the கலிப்பா verse, being single, viz.; that of வெண்சீர் foot ending with a syllable with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. IV. வஞ்சித்தளை, connexion of வஞ்சி verse of two species. 1. ஒன்றியவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. 2. ஒன்றாதவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of a compound with a simple syllable, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another beginning with a simple syllable. For syllables and feet and their different species, see அசை and சீர். வளைபட்டகைமாதொடு மக்களெனுந் தளைபட்டழியத் தகுமோதகுமோ. Should I perish by being bound with my bracelet-adorned wife and children. தளைகழற்றிவிட, inf. To unloose or take off fetters. தளைத்தட்ட, inf. To fail or be defective, as a connection in verse, தளைதவற. தளைநார், s. [prov.] A foot brace for a tree-climber. தளைபட--தளைப்பட, inf. To be imprisoned, to be taken captive, சிறைப்பட. 2. To be bound, confined, restrained, கட்டுப்பட. தளைப்பூட்ட--தளைபோட, inf. To fetter, to shackle. தளைப்பொருத்தம், s. Harmonious combination of the தளை, in verse, தளையினிணக்கம். தளையவிழ, inf. To blossom as a flower, பூமலர. 2. To be unbound, to be unrestrained, கட்டவிழ. தளைவைக்க, inf. [prov.] To invest one with the office of உடையார். தளைவார், s. As பொய்த்தல். பொய்க்கோலம்--பொய்வேஷம், s. Mask, disguise, assumed appearance, கள்ளவேஷம். 2. Hypocrisy, dissimulation, கரவடம். பொய்சாதிக்க, inf. To stand to a lie. பொய்சொல்லி, appel. n. A liar. பொய்சொன்னவாய்க்குப்பொரியும்கிடையாது.... The mouth of a liar will not get even the parched rice strewed on a corpse. பொய்ச்சத்தியம்--பொய்யாணை, s. A false oath, perjury. பொய்ச்சாட்சி, s. A false witness. 2. False evidence, கள்ளச்சாட்சி. பொய்த்தலை, s. A mask or a false head on a pole, pushed by thieves through a hole in the walls of a house, to receive the blows, if any be given. பொய்பட--பொய்ப்பட, inf. [v. noun. பொய்ப்பாடு.] To fail, to become abortive, வீணாக. 2. To prove false, பொய்யாக. பொய்ப்பத்திரம், s. A forged letter, bond or other document. பொய்ப்பார், s. A shallow stratum of rock, as found in digging wells. பொய்ப்பிஞ்சு, s. [prov.] Very young fruit that does not come to perfection. பொய்மூக்கு, s. Parts near the bottom of the nose. பொய்யடி, v. noun.
