May you perish--a form of imprecation. கெட்டாற்குற்றார்கிளையிலுமில்லை. In poverty, friends are not found even among relations. கெட்டேனே. Ah! I am lost, ruined; I an undone. கெட்டுப்போனபார்ப்பானுக்குச் செத்துப்போனப சுவைத்தானங்கொடுத்தாற்போல. As if a dead cow be presented to a ruined brahman; said of an unprofitable pursuit by an incompetent person. கெட்டும்பட்டணஞ்சேர். Though to be ruined, go to the town. தரித்திரங்கெடும்படி. That the misery of poverty may cease. ஈற்றுயிர்மெய்கெடும். The final compound letter is dropped. கெடுகுடிசொற்கேளாது. A family given up to ruin will never listen to advice. கெட்டகுடியேகெடும். A ruined family will sink more and more. கெடுகாலம், s. A time of ruin, evil, drought, &c.; also used reference to retribution of evil deeds which is to come immediately. கெடுமதி, s. Wicked devices. 2. Folly, rashness, presumption. 3. Loss, ruin, waste. கெடுமதி கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாது. Folly is blind. கெடுவான், appel. n. He who will perish--the wretch; commonly used abusively. கெட்டதனம், s. Bad disposition; badness. 2. Indecorum, incivility. கெட்டநடத்தை, s. Immoral or vile conduct. கெட்டநிலை, s. A bad state, a woful plight. 2. A dangerous profession. 3. A dangerous way or system--as of religion. கெட்டபுத்தி, s. Perverted understanding. 2. Bad counsel, &c. கெட்டமணம், s. An offensive smell. கெட்டரூபம், s. A deformed, monstrous or horrid shape. கெட்டவியாதி, s. A bad, malignant, dangerous disease. 2. The venereal or other filthy disease. கெட்டகேடு, s. Utter ruin, uselessness, unworthiness, &c.--usually as an exclamation கெட்டுப்போனவள், s. A seduced woman, a bad woman. கெடுதலை, v. noun. Ruin, அழிவு. 2. Damage, loss, detriment, injury, நஷ்டம். 3. Disaster, calamity, இடையூறு. 4. Degeneracy, vileness, evil, இழிவு. கெடுதல், v. noun. Perishing; being ruined, spoiled, defeated, &c. 2. Damage, injury, calamity, &c. 3. [in gram.] Elision, omission. கெடுதி, s. Loss of any thing dropped, stolen, or strayed, &c., இழப்பு. 2. Loss --opposed to gain, in astrological calculations, augural divinations, &c., நஷ்டம். (See நினைத்தகாரியம்.) 3. Emergency, hazard, extremity. ஆபத்து. 4. Ruin, அழிவு. 5. Evil, disaster, கேடு. 6. (fig.) The thing lost, இழந்தபொருள். ஒருகெடுதிசொல்லவேண்டும். Please to divine for me about what I have lost. கெடு, v. noun. Ruin, destruction; decay, கேடு. 2. Expiration of a limited time, a term or limit of time, தவணை. கெடுவாகவையாதுலகம். The world will not consider it a ruin. (குற.) கெடுத்தப்பிப்போயிற்று. The time set, is passed. கெடுப்படிக்கு. According to the time agreed upon. பத்துநாட்கெடுவிலே. Vileness, turpitude, wickedness, baseness, flagrance, flagitiousness, தீமை. 6. Injustice, அநீதி. 7. Sharpness, poignancy, severity, கூர்மை. 8. adj. Satirical, offensive, injurious, கடுமை.--Note. In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். He is vexed by want of food. கொடிது--கொடியது, appel. noun. That which is cruel, கொடுமையானது. கொடியகாடு, s. A wild, inhospitable desert. கொடியகூற்றன், s. The cruel Yama. கொடியசண்டாளர், s. Desperate wretches. கொடியபிறவி, s. Vile births--as evils to which souls are subject; horrid transmigration--as keeping the soul from union with the deity. கொடியமனம், s. A cruel or envious disposition. 2. The evil heart. கொடியமுகம், s. A frightful visage; a fierce countenance. கொடியமோசம், s. Flagrant errors. கொடியவஞ்சனை, s. Base turpitude. 2. A desperate fraud; a base imposition. கொடியவன், s. A vile wretch, a hardhearted cruel man. கொடியவீரன், s. A kind of prepared arsenic, கோடாசொரிபாஷாணம். (Rott.) கொடியவெப்பம், s. Oppressive, vehement heat of weather or climate, &c. 2. Poignant qualities of medicines. கொடியோன், s. A cruel man. 2. The plant, கற்றாழை, Aloes. கொடுங்கண், s. An evil eye, a cruel eye. கொடுங்காலம், s. A time of dearth, scarcity, drought, &c. 2. A time of general suffering. 3. A time of oppression, cruelty, tyranny. கொடுங்கோல், s. A despotic government or rule; tyranny. (lit.) a crooked sceptre--as opposed to செங்கோல், a right sceptre, அரசின்முறைகேடு. கொடுங்கோள், s. Atrocious backbiting, disgraceful calumny, அவதூறு. கொடுங்கோன்மை, s. Despotism, tyranny; injustice, oppression, அரசின் முறைகேடு. கொடுசூரி--கொடுஞ்சூரி, s. [local.] A desperately wicked woman. கொடுநுகம், s. The tenth lunar asterism. See மகம். கொடுஞ்சொல், s. Rude, harsh, severe language; harshness, reproof, abuse, &c. --as கடுஞ்சொல் and வன்சொல். கொடும்பசி, s. Severe hunger. கொடுமரம், s. A bow, வில். 2. Sagitarius of the zodiac, தனுராசி. கொடுமுடிச்சு, s. A hard, intricate knot, படுமுடிச்சு. 2. (fig.) Malignant plot, a vile conspiracy; contrivance to ruin one, founded on falsehood or truth, சதியாலோசனை. கொடும்பகல், s. [local.] Mid-day. See கடும்பகல். கொடும்பாவி, s. A heinous sinner. கொடும்பாவை, s. The effigy of an old woman, dragged through the streets with lights and vociferation, in time of drought, and burnt to expiate public crime and bring rain. Sometimes கொடும் பாவி. கொடும்புரி, s. A hard, through twist in a string, &c. 2. (fig.) A deep-laid plot for effecting one's dismissal from office, &c. கொடுந்தமிழ், s. The vulgar dialect of the Tamil. See தமிழ். கொடுந்துயர், s. cuṭlai (p. 193) s. A burning ground, a place for burning dead bodies, மயானம்; [ex சுடு, burn.] (c.) சுடலையிற்பேய். Devils that haunt burning places. சுடலைகாக்க, inf. To watch the funeral pile till the body is consumed; the office of a பறையன். சுடலைக்கரை, s. A place for burning the dead. சுடலைக்காடு, s. As சுடுகாடு. சுடலைக்குருவி, s. [prov.] A bird of passage with a long tail and large crest; which is active chiefly by night. Compare சாக்குருவி. சுடலைஞானம், s. (Sometimes சுடுகாட்டு வைராக்கியம்.) Inhabitants of the nether world. நரகவட்டம், s The ranges of the seven different hells, each composed of a distinct element, 1. தமப்பிரபை, region of a pervading and an intense cold. 3. தூமப்பிரபை, region of thick smoke. 4. வாலுகப்பிரபை, region of sand, or sandbaths. 5. சாகரப்பிரபை, region of perpetual wakefulness. 6. இரத்தப்பிரபை, region of blood. 7. அழற்பிரபை, region of fire. நரகவாசிகள், appel. n. vāyu (p. 385) --வாயுவு, s. [com. வாய்வு.] Wind, air, காற்று. 2. Wind or vital air in the system; also windy affections, flatulency, வாதம். W. p. 752. VAYU. 3. Vayu, the wind-god, and regent of the northwest. See திக்குப்பாலகர். எனக்குவாயுகொண்டிருக்கிறது. I have flatulency in my bowels. அசீரணவாயு. Indigestion. வாயு, 1. or தசவாயு. Ten vital airs in the body: 1. பிராணன், situated in the heart; 2. அபானன், in the top of the head and passing downwards; 3. சமா னன், in the pit of the throat; 4. வியா னன், pervading the whole body; 5. உதானன், in the navel; 6. நாகன், which effects motion and speech; 7. கூர்மன், causing horripilation; 8. கிருதரன், or கிருகரன், seated in the face; 9. தேவதத் தன், that which is exhaled in yawning, &c; 1. தனஞ்செயன், or தனஞ்சயன், that which remains in the body after death an escapes by splitting the head. See these words.-- For மேகவாயு, தமரகவாயு, பாரிசவாயு, see their primaries. வாயுக்கணம், s. [also மாருதகணம்.] One of the four inauspicious feet. See அஷ்டகணம், under கணம். வாயுக்குத்து, s. Pain from wind, and flatulency; cholic. வாயுசகன்--வாயுச்சகன், s. Fire, as the comrade of wind, அக்கினி; [ex சகன்.] வாயுதாரணை, s. Suppression of the the vital airs, by yogas, &c. வாயுத்தம்பம்--வாயுத்தம்பனம்--வாயு ஸ்தம்பனம் s. The art of arresting the winds. See கலைஞானம். வாயுபகவான், s. The god of the wind. வாயுபூதம், s.
