ஆறு
āṟu (p. 43) s. and adj. Six (6.) six things, ஓரெண். 2. As a prefix to words beginning with consonants, the initial is often shortened, especially when the number is specific--as அறுசுவை, the six flavors. (c.) அவ்வாறு. Six by six, six to each, six of each. அறுகுணன், s. The deity--he who possesses the six attributes, கடவுள்; [ex குணம், quality.] (p.) அறுகோணம், s. A hexagon. 2. A magical diagram of two equilateral triangles, one laid over the other so that their sides may be parallel, making six outward and six inward angles. அறுசமயம், s. The six systems of religion maintained by Hindus. See சமயம். அறுதொழிலோர், s. Brahmans-from the six duties prescribed to them, வேதியர். See தொழில், office. அறுபகை, s. The six hurtful propensities--as காமம், &c. See பகை. அறுபருவம், s. The six seasons of the year--as கார், கூதிர், &c. See பருவம். அறுபொழுது, s. The six different portions of the day; 1. மாலை, the first four hours after sunset, or ten nalikies. 2. யாமம், four hours, or ten nalikies after மாலை. 3. வைகறை, four hours after யாமம் or before sunrise. 4. காலை or விடியல், four hours after sunrise or வைகறை. 5. நண்பகல், from eleven A. M. to two P. M. 6. ஏற்பாடு, from three to six P. M. அறுவர், s. Six persons--men or women. (p.)--Note. For other similar words, see அறு. ஆறங்கம், s. The six subjects embraced in வேதாங்கம்; which see. (p.) ஆறாமீனறவோட்டு, s. The transit of the sun through the pleiades, regarded by seamen, as a critical or disastrous season, when rough weather is to be looked for. ஆறுகட்டி, s. kōṭṭi (p. 150) --கோஷ்டி, s. Assembly, meeting, company of learned or respectable persons, சபை. 2. Multitude, collection, கூட்டம். W. p. 32. GOSHT'EE. 3. The gate of a tower, கோபுரவாயில். 4. Pleasantry, jest, joke, பகடி. 5. [loc.] Ignominy, reproach, நிந்தை. தந்திரருக்குவிஷங்கோஷ்டி. Joking is hurtful to the poor. பிராமணகோஷ்டி, s. An assembly of brahmans. 7)

ciṟiyr (p. 189) --சிறியவர்--சிறியார்--சிறி யோர், s. The low, the base, கீழ்மக்கள். 2. Small persons, சிறுவர்; [ex சிறுமை.] சிறியார்க்கினியதுகாட்டாதேசேம்புக்குப்புளிவிடாதாக் காதே. A radish, Raphanus sativus. முள்ளங்கிக்கிழங்கு, s. Its root used for curry. முள்ளங்கிழங்கு, s. A hard and inferior kind of yam. முள்ளஞ்சங்கு, s. A prickly shell, a conch armed with spines. முள்ளந்தண்டு--முள்ளெலும்பு, s. The spine, the back-bone. முள்ளம்பன்றி--முட்பன்றி, s. [poet. முண்மா.] Porcupine. முள்ளி, s. Any thorny shrub, முட் செடிப்பொது. 2. The Indian night shade, Solanum Indicum; L. The root is used as a decoction in dysuria and Ischuria, ஓர்பூண்டு. --Note. Of முள்ளி are அடுக்குமுள்ளி, a thorn-bush, Indian Hyssop; ஆற்று முள்ளி, a thorny plant growing near rivers; கழுதைமுள்ளி, a thorn bush, Acanthus ilicifolius; செம்முள்ளி, a thorny plant, Barleria; நீர்முள்ளி, another thorny plant; வறள்முள்ளி, a medicinal thorn-bush. முள்ளிக்கீரை--முள்ளுக்கீரை, s. A species of prickly greens. See கீரை. முள்ளிலவு, s. A tree, Bombax heptaphyllum. முள்ளிழைப்புளி, s. A sort of plane. முள்ளுக்கரப்பன், s. A tingling kind or eruption with pimples. முள்ளுடைமூலம், s. Roots having spikes. (p.) முள்ளுத்தைத்தல், v. noun. Running a thorn into the foot. முள்ளுநாயகம், s. A plant whose leaves are used for extracting thorns. முள்ளுப்பலா--முட்பலா, s. A prickly jack-fruit. viṣam (p. 391) --விடம், s. Poison, நஞ்சு. 2. Any thing hurtful or destructive. W. p. 79. VISHA. அநப்பியாசேவிஷம்சாஸ்திரம். Want to practice is poison to all learning. விஷந்தீண்டிச்செத்தான். A sudden swelling of the body. விஷபேதி, s. Virulent diarrh&oe;a, choleramorbus. விஷப்பனி, s. Mildew, dew pernicious to health. விஷமிறக்க, inf. To remove poison. விஷமிறங்குதல், v. noun. The action of animal poison being subdued. விஷமுட்டி, s. A poisonous tree, Strychnos, எட்டிமரம். விஷமூங்கில், s. A medicinal shrub, Crinum Asiaticum. விஷமேறுதல், v. noun. Diffusing poison, through the system. விஷமேற்ற, inf. To cause reduced animal poison to spread again through the system by magic. 2. (fig.) To provoke one to fury, கடுங்கோபமூட்ட. விஷவாக்கு, s.
