uḷ (p. 67) s. The inside, the interior, that which is intrinsic, private, secret, esoteric, உள்ளிடம், 2. Mind, heart, soul, breast, உள்ளம். 3. Place, இடம். 4. As a nominal affix or postposition, it governs the dative and expresses in, within, among, of, out of, inner, interior, intrinsic, esoteric, ஏழ னுருபு. உள்ளிருந்தார்க்குத்தெரியுமுள்வருத்தம். Those of the household only are acquainted with its secret sorrows. உட்கரணம், s. The intellectual faculties. See இந்திரியம் and கரணம். உட்கருத்து, s. The inmost thought, the real purpose or motive, அகக்கருத்து. 2. Cordial affection, உட்பட்சம். 3. The intrinsic meaning of a passage, &c., கருத்துரை. உட்கருத்தாகப்பேச, inf. To speak with reservation. உட்களவு, s. Guile, deceit, treacherousness, insidiousness, உள்வஞ்சகம். உட்கள்ளம், s. Deep-seated viciousness, dissimulation, உள்வஞ்சகம். 2. Internal, or unsubdued disease, hidden humor or matter--as in a boil, கட்டியினுள் விஷம். உட்காங்கை, s. Caloric, latent heat, உட்சூடு. உட்காந்த, inf. To have internal heat causing emaciation; [ex காந்து.] உட்காய்ச்சல், s. Internal fever, அகச்சுரம். 2. Inward anger, rancor, malice, &c., உள்ளெரிப்பு. உட்கிராந்த, inf. To become emaciated by disease or otherwise. 2. To be firmly rooted--as disease. உட்குத்துப்புறவீச்சு, s. A species of hepatic complaint attended with convulsions, ஓர்நோய். உட்குயிர், s. The Deity regarded as the life, or identified with the life or soul of each individual, உள்ளுயிர். உட்குறிப்பு, s. Aim, object, intention, உள்ளக்குறிப்பு. உட்குற்றம், s. Innate depravity. See உட்பகை. உட்கூதல், s. Internal cold, chill, slight fever. உட்கை, s. Palm of the hand, உள்ளங்கை. 2. A person who is privy to, a secret hand--as in உள்ளுளவு. 3. Turning to the left in dancing or other movements, இடக்கைச்சுற்று. உட்கைச்சுற்று, s. Turning to the left, winding or turning back wards, or contrary to the sun. உட்கொள்ள, inf. To eat as a god, or great personage, உண்ண. 2. To take food that has been consecrated to a deity, தேவப்பிரசாதமுட்கொள்ள. 3. To take food, medicine, to swallow, take in, imbibeas the earth does the rain, &c., விழுங்க. 4. To receive into the mind, meditate, or reflect upon, மனதிற்கொள்ள. 5. To wish for an occurrence, or to express desires mentally--as a deity or holy sage (the thing desired instantly talking place), திருவுளங்கொள்ள. 6. To have a secret object in view, to have in view, உட்கருத. உட்கோபம், s. Interior anger, malice. உட்கோள், s. The will, determination, internal, or inmost thought, உட்கருத்து. 2. Wish of the heart. 3. Opinion, belief, tenet, கோட்பாடு. உட்சங்கம், s. A select society, a committee, அகச்சங்கம். உட்சட்டை, s. An inner vest or tunic. உட்சமயம், s. The six religious systems of the followers of Siva, அகச் சமயம். உட்சாடை, s. The real object of an affair, the real feeling of the heart, உட்கருத்து. 2. Exposure of secrets by one of a party by signs, இரகசியங்களைச்ச மிக்கையாலறிவிக்கை. 3. The meaning, thing, &c., told or known to one's own party and differing from that which is made known to others, குழூஉக்குறி. உட்சீலை, s. An under or inner cloth. 2. The lining of a garment. உட்சவர், s. An inner wall, அகச் சுவர். 2. The interior of a wall, சுவரி னிடை. உட்சுவரிருக்கப்புறச்சுவர்தீற்றுகிறது. To whitewash the outside wall while neglecting the inside; i. e. to be scrupulously exact in external conduct, while the heart is full of wickedness; to attend to things remote while those at hand are neglected. உட்சூத்திரம், s. The main spring in a machine, any internal power or operation concealed from view, மூலசூத் திரம். 2. A clue, or key to an affair, உள்ளுபாயம். 3. The main spring in a business, மூலகாரணம். 4. A skilfully contrived rule in numbers, &c., நுட்பமான வகை. 5. A short, compendious and subtle method of ascertaining, or effecting a thing, இலேசானவகை. 6. (fig.) Internal meaning of a passage, real object in view, உட்குறிப்பு. உட்செல்ல, inf. To enter, insinuate one's self, உள்ளேபோக. உட்டுளை, s. Hollowness--as of a pipe or tube. உட்டுளைப்பொருள், s. Any thing tubular. உட்டெளிவு, s. Cleverness of mind, freedom from doubt, profound knowledge, அகத்தெளிவு. 2. The clear part of the liquid--as poured off from the sediment, வடித்தசாறு. 3. Soundness--as in timber, &c., உள்வைரம். 4. Inner measurment. உட்டேட்டம், s. The secret object or pursuit, as differing from profession, or appearances, மனநாட்டம். 2. Property acquired and kept secretly, உட்சம்பத்து. உட்பகை, s. Internal enmity, hatred or grudge, rancor at heart with professions of friendship. 2. Internal, innate, or secret foes attached to the soul, causing actions, &c., காமாதிக்குற்றங் கள். (For the six உட்பகை, see பகை.) 3. Hatred of a king by his professed friends, civil conspiracy, அரசருட்பகை. எட்பகவன்சிறுமைத்தேயாயினுமுட்பகையுள்ள தாங்கேடு. Though the internal hatred be as the fragment of a grain of rape seed, the consequent evil may be very great. உட்பக்கம், s. Subject of investigation or deduction in things of a mental, mystic, or spiritual character. See பக்கம். உட்பட, inf. To enter, be within, or under--as in age, உள்ளாக. 2. To engage in, be concerned in, to be, or become one of a party, or community; to be involved in, to be subject to, to yield to, to be obedient to, உடன்பட. 3. adv. Together with, inclusive. மூன்றுவயதுக்குட்பட்டபிள்ளை. A child under three years of age. அதுட்பட. That inclusive. மோசத்துக்குட்பட, inf. To fall into danger. உட்படி, s. A make-weight, உட்ப டிக்கல். உட்படுத்த, inf. To cause to enter, to introduce, அகப்படுத்த. 2. To persuade, proselyte, bring one into, or over to one's party, மதத்துக்குள்ளாக்க. 3. To include, involve, entrap, ensnare, சிக்கப்பண்ண. உட்பத்தியம், s. Abstinence from venery as a regimen while taking medicine, &c.; sometimes அகப்பத்தியம். உட்பந்தி, s. The chief row or table of guests, அகப்பந்தி. உட்பலம், s. Property at command, திரவியபலம். 2. Friends, assistants, attendants, &c., துணைவர்பலம். 3. Forces, army, army in reserve, சேனாபலம். 4. Strength, firmness of body, hardness, strength from food, தேகபலம். உட்பற்று, s. Internal attachment, affections of the heart, &c. See அகப்பற்று. உட்பிரவேசம், s. Entrance. உட்பிரவேசிக்க, inf. To enter, உள்ளேபோக, உட்புக.--Note. This and the preceding word are in use, but not, it is thought, on good authority. உட்புக, inf. To enter, engage in. உட்புகுந்துபேச, inf. To make professions of friendship, kindness, concern, &c. உட்புரை, s. The hollow of a tube or pipe, உட்டுளை. 2. The small folds of a garment, உள்மடிப்பு. 3. (fig.) The secret of the matter, internal affair, அந்தரங்கம். உட்புறம், s. The inside, உட்பக்கம். உட்பொருள்--உள்ளர்த்தம், s. The real meaning, தாற்பரியம். 2. The hidden, or secret meaning, உட்கருத்து. சாஸ்திரத்தினுட்பொருள், s. The occult sense of a doctrine. உட்போட, inf. To coax, to wheedle, வசமாக்க. உண்ணா--உண்ணாக்கு, s. The uvula, அண்ணம்; [ex நா, tongue.] உண்ணாட்டம், s. The real or secret object of pursuit, உண்ணோக்கம். உண்ணீரம், s. The moisture within a body or thing; [ex உள், et நீரம்.] உண்ணோக்கல், v. noun. Contemplation. உண்மடை, s. The lower opening of a water-course. 2. Oblations, or offerings of fruits, betel, rice, pastries presented to ferocious deities, inside the temple, அகமடை. See மடை. உண்மட்டைநார், s. [prov.] The bark of the inner side of the palmyra stem, being the best for use. உண்மாசு, s. Corruption of mind-as உபமலம். உண்முடிச்சு, s. Treachery by which one inveigles another, (lit.) an inner knot, உட்கள்ளம். உள்யோசனை, s. Secret object, project, intention, &c., உள்ளாலோசனை. உள்வட்டம், s. Agio, premium in exchange of coins or other money for difference in value. (opp. to வட்டம்.) உள்வணக்கம், s. Mental worship, அகவணக்கம். உள்வயிரம், s. Interior firmness. 2. Malice, internal hatred. Bending forward, stooping as a person, உள்வளை ந்திருக்கை. உள்வளைவு, s. Inward curvature, concavity, உட்கவிவு. உள்வாரம், s. Secret partiality, leaning, inclination, உள்ளன்பு. 2. The share in the produce of a field which comes to the owner. உள்விழ, inf. To fall in, or with, join a party, &c., உள்ளாக. 2. To assume the appearance of friendship for a sinister object; to pretend kindness, காரியார்த்த மாய்ச்சிநேகிக்க. உள்விழுத்த, inf. v. a. To join a person on professions of friendship in order to deceive and entrap him, &c. உள்வினை, s. Malice, evil in the heart kept secret, long indulged, &c., உட்பகை. 2. Inherited fate, ஊழ்வினை. உள்வீச்சுச்சன்னி, s. See சன்னி. உள்வெக்கை, s. Internal heat of the system, உள்வெப்பு. உள்வெட்டு, s. The marks on a testing piece of gold, for trying the fineness of other pieces, from eight degrees and upwards, உரையாணியினுள் வெட்டு. 2. The higher kinds of gold, உயர்ந்தமாற்று. 3. A tinkling ring of brass, put as an ornament on the feet of horses mounted by kings and great men-comp. தண்டை, which is the name of another ornament made of silver and commonly placed upon the former. 2. A pad placed between a load and the back of an ox. உள்ளங்கம், s. Symmetry of mind, the internal property or quality. See அகத்துறுப்பு. உள்ளங்கால், s. The sole of the foot. உள்ளங்கை, s. The palm of the hand. உள்ளடங்கிப்போக, inf. To be shut, shut in, to be swallowed up. உள்ளடக்க, inf. To enclose, shut in, shut up in a place. 2. To conceal, to keep secret. உள்ளடக்கம், v. noun. Reservedness, reserve in intercourse. உள்ளடி, s. The sole of the foot, உள்ளங்கால். 2. [vul.] That which is secret, இரகசியம். 3. [prov.] Nearness, vicinity, neighborhood, சமீபம். 4. (fig.) To enter in, உட்புக. 2. To become subject to, கீழ்ப்பட. 3. To join a party, engage in, சேர. 4. To be involved, to become privy to an affair, உடன்பட. அவனுக்குள்ளானேன். I am on his side, I have taken his part. ஆக்கினைக்குள்ளானவன். One who is doomed to punishment. துரோகத்திற்குள்ளாகாதே. Be not a partaker in treacherous deeds. உள்ளாக்க, inf. To get a person into one's party, or to interest him in one's concerns, வசப்படுத்த. உள்ளாட, inf. To have intercourse with an enemy in order to effect an object, உள்ளேபயில. உள்ளாடுசத்துரு, s. An enemy in the camp, a snake in the grass, a treacherous companion, உட்பகைஞன். உள்ளாந்தரங்கம், s. Internal secrets, private matters. உள்ளாயிருக்க, inf. emaṉ (p. 73) s. The deity of Naraca or hell, where his capital is placed, in which he sits in judgment on the dead, and distributes rewards and punishments, sending the good to Swerga, and the wicked to the division of Naraca or Tartarus appropriated to their crimes: he corresponds with the Grecian god Pluto, and the judge of hell Minos. and in Hindu mythology is often identified with death and time; he is the son of Surya, or the sun, and brother of the personified Yamuna or Jumna river, நமன். kiruttiyam (p. 111) s. Act, actions, performances, operation, தொழில். 2. Moral actions good or bad, involving future retributions, கன்மக்கிரியை. 3. A course of conduct, நடக்கை. 4. Work, business, employment, லௌகிகவேலை. 5. Religious rules, prescribed duties, கடமை. 6. Rites, ceremonies, &c., religious acts or practice, சடங்கு. 7. The operations of the deity--popularity in the characters of creator, preserver and destroyer; but in the mystic parts of the Agama system, the works of obscuring and enlightening the soul are superadded. Wils. p. 243. KRUTYA. தன்கிருத்தியந்தான்பார்க்கவேண்டும். Each one must perform his appropriate duties, personal, social, relative, civil, &c. கிருத்தியகர்த்தா, s. An operating deity, or a god who performs either of the five great operations in the universe. கிருத்தியகர்த்தாக்கள், s. (pl.) Agents who carry on operations in the universe; also, those of the விஞ்ஞானகலர் and பிர ளயாகலர் class of souls that have advanced so as to be cleansed from மலம், and permitted to be operative. கிருத்தியப்பிழை, s. Misdeeds, misbehaviour. 2. Failure or transgression in the performance of prescribed rites, ceremonies or other duties. கிருத்தியமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not practise the rites of the religion. ஒருகிருத்தியமுமில்லாதவன். One unemployed. கிருத்தியமுடிக்க, inf. To perform prescribed duties--as religious rites, ceremonies, &c. கிருத்தியம்பண்ண--கிருத்தியம்நடத்த inf. To perform the works of creation, &c..--as a deity, ஐந்தொழில்செய்ய. The direct object of this work is fancied to be; 1. To cleanse the soul from its moral defilements. 2. To cause it to experience the fruit of former actions. 3. To give it a temporary rest. 4. To produce an equilibrium between the good and evil actions of the soul. 5. To emancipate it from the பாசம் entanglements. (சிவ. சி.) 2. To perform works, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 3. To perform the duties of one's calling, தொழில்செய்ய. 4. To perform the funeral rites for a deceased ancestor, உத்தரகிரியைசெய்ய. பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், s. The five operations of deity under various names, forms and modifications, viz.: 1st. சிருட்டி or படை த்தல், the work of creating or transforming matter, evolving it from the primitive Maya, producing words, furnishing the soul with its appropriate body, according to its actions in a previous birth, &c. In the popular system, this office is ascribed to Brahma. 2d.திதி or காத்தல், the work of preserving, usually ascribed to Vishnu. 3d. சங்காரம் or அழித்தல், the work of destroying, or of reducing the universe to the primitive Maya, through numerous involutions, --as earth into water, water into fire, &c. This office is ascribed to உருத்தி ரன், who by his worshippers is identified with Siva whom they consider supreme. 4th. திரோபவம் or மறைத்தல், the work of obscuration, or the veiling of the soul in moral darkness, and beclouding the understanding, so that the divine being cannot be perceived, while the mind attracted and illuded by visible and sensual objects, is excited to the performance of new actions, by which absolute liberation from பாசம் entanglements is prevented, and connection with Maya and its consequent transmigrations--except where the sanchita (சஞ்சிதம்) of former births is exhausted --is indefinitely prolonged. This is ascribed to மயேச்சுரன். 5th. அனுக்கிரகம் or அருளல், this is a work of benevolence as exerted for the benefit of the soul in furnishing it with appropriate bodies by which to expiate the guilt of former actions, though obscuring it with திரோ பவம், while it is thus working itself clear, at length withdrawing the veil and showing it that all visible and sensual objects are illusory and deceptive; also annihilating the passions and exciting disgust toward the objects of sense, and utter indifference to all mundane affairs, and thus causing entire cessation from physical and moral actions, and maturing it for final emancipation, and union with the Supreme. It is ascribed to சதாசிவம். சமுசாரகிருத்தியம், s. Domestic affairs, household business. 10) *

Stoical tranquility of mind, extinction of volitional feeling, &c., as attained by the ஞானி. (p.) சித்தசலனம், s. Agitation of mind, perturbation, disgust. See சலனம். சித்தஸ்வாதீனம், s. Command of one's will, self-control. சித்தஞ்செய்ய, inf. To settle, decide, give a final judgement, தீர்மானிக்க. 2. To will, desire; to direct, command; to be pleased, ஆக்கியாபிக்க. 3. To make ready, தயார்பண்ண. (Colloq.) சித்தத்தியாகம்--சித்தநிவர்த்தி, s. [prov.] Renunciation, entire subjection or extinction of the will and of secular purposes, resolves, desires, &c.,--as attained by severe abstract devotion in one ripening for liberation from births; absolute quiescence. See தியாகம். சித்தத்திற்கொள்ள, inf. To will, resolve, purpose, choose, prefer. சித்தந்திரும்ப--சித்தம்வர, inf. To be pleased to do, &c. (c.) சித்தப்பிரமை, s. Aberration of mind, infatuation, fascination, stupefaction, bewilderment, மனமயக்கு. 2. Derangement, madness; [ex பிரமை, stupor.] சித்தமாக, inf. To will, to desire; to purpose, resolve. (c.) சித்தமிரங்க, inf. To condescend, to be pleased, to do a favor, &c. சித்தயோகம், s. [in astrol.] A conjunction of the lunar constellations with the days of the week and of the phases of the moon,-- not deemed very favorable; the twenty-first of the twenty-seven yogas, யோகமிருபத்தேழிலொ ன்று. 2. One of the three யோகம் neither favorable, nor unfavorable. See யோகம். சித்தலயம், s. Extinction of the will and identification of the soul with the Supreme, as obtained by the ascetic; [ex இலயம்.] சித்தவிலாசம், s. Increase of volitions or of yielding to desires after earthly objects--oppo. to சித்தலயம். சாத்திரசித்தம், s. The sentiment or meaning of the shastras. 2. cittar (p. 182) s. One of the eighteen classes of supernals, or demigods inhabiting the middle air or region between the earth and the sun, embracing several subdivisions, தேவகணத்தொருதிறத்தோர். 2. A class of magicians who, by the performance of certain mystical and magical rites, have acquired superhuman powers, being able to perform miracles; or one or more of the eight சித்தி, அஷ்டசித்தியடைந் தோர். 3. Ascetics who, by mystical and austere practices, have attained one or all of the five purposes: viz., the affluence, the form, or the society of the supernals, residence in the divine lokas; or identification with the deity, ஞானசித்தியடைந்தோர்; [ex சித்தி, success.] W. p. 924. cittu (p. 183) s. Intellect, intelligence, the principle of knowledge or intellect in the deity, or human souls; spirit (as opposed to சடம் or அசித்து, matter or non-intelligence) in all its diversified forms in the various beings inhabiting the universe, whether supernal, infernal, human, brute or vegetable; all being capable of knowing and enjoying the deity, அறிவுப்பொருள். W. p. 325. CHIT. 2. (a change of சித்தி.) Illimitable and supernatural powers, obtained by abstract devotion, and exercised at pleasure; including the eight சித்தி, which see. 3. Legerdemain, sleight of hand, exhibition of supernatural appearances by means of magic, alchemy, &c., மாயாவித்தை. 4. The யாகம் sacrifice. சித்திலாதபோதுவேறுசீவனில்லையில்லையே. When there is no intelligence, there is no life. i. e. to deny intelligence [as a first cause.] is to deny that there is life. சித்தசித்து, s. Spirit and matter, or intelligence and non-intelligence--as eternal, uncreated principles in nature. சித்தசித்தீசுரன், s. Spirit, matter, and God--as constituting the world. (p.) சித்தாகாரம், s. Spirituality, incorporeality belonging to the spirit or intellect, as refined, purified and tending toward the deity; [ex ஆகாரம், form.] சித்துக்காரன், s. As சித்துவித்தைக்காரன். சித்துப்பறக்க, inf. To fly or pass through ether, as the சித்தர். 2. (fig.) To disappear, as a person; spoken in surprise or contempt. 3. (fig.) To carry one's self proudly, to take airs; to be supercilious. சித்துப்பொருள், s. An intelligent being, the faculty of intelligence, as in the deity or a soul--oppo. to சடப்பொருள். சித்துரூபம்--சிற்சொரூபம், s. Imbodied intelligence, a spiritual nature. 2. The deity as identified with the intellect. சித்துரூபன்--சிற்சொரூபன், s. The deity as a pure intelligence, கடவுள். சித்துவித்தை, s. As சித்து, 3. சித்துவித்தைகற்றவன்--சித்துவித்தைக் காரன், s. One skilled in deceptive performances. Compare சித்தன். சித்துவிளையாட--சித்துசெய்ய--சித் துகாட்ட, inf. To juggle, to play tricks, to exhibit supernatural appearances. சிற்சத்தி, s. cīvaṉ (p. 191) s. Life, vitality, the vital principle, உயிர். 2. The sentient soul; according to the Vedantic system, the emanation of the deity incorporated with the body, giving it life, motion and sensation; hence also called, சீவாத்துமா. It is opposed to the abstract state of the soul, or as identified with deity, பரமாத்துமா.--Note. According to the Agamas, the soul is eternal, but destined to obsorption in the deity, which is the ultimate object in view in furnishing it with bodies, and with various means for its illumination. 3. A living being, an animal, சீவசெந்து. 4. A name of Jupiter, வியாழம். 5. A magnet, காந்தம். (R.) 6. (fig.) Energy, spirit, life, animation, முயற்சி--used in the negative form. W. p. 351. JEEVA. சீவனும்பிராணனுமாயிருக்கிறார்கள். They are closely united, (lit.) as the life and the vital airs. சீவன்வந்தது. Life is restored--spoken of one whose fears are banished. நடக்கச்சீவனில்லை. Not life enough to walk. படிப்போடேசீவனைவிடுகிறான். He spends his life in learning. எனக்குப்பசியினாற்சீவன்போகிறது. I am ready to die of hunger. சீவனுண்டாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak aloud. சீவனைக்கொடுக்க, inf. To impart life. 2. To prolong life--as pretended by one possessed. 3. To sacrifice one's life for another. 4. To save one from ruin, by giving the means of subsistence. 5. To inspire one with courage, தைரியப்ப டுத்த. சீவனைமாய்த்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To commit suicide, to lay violent hands on one's self. சீவனைவாங்க, inf. To take away life. 2. (fig.) To put one to great hardships. சீவனோடிருக்க, inf. To be alive, to live. சீவனோடுகூடியகாரியம், s. [prov.] (in divination.) A question, or matter connected with life, or with a living being. 2. A thing of vital importance. கிழட்டுச்சீவன்--கிழச்சீவன், s. An old person, man or woman. சீவன்முத்தன், s. (in Agama phil.) The soul freed from பாசம் before the death of the body, and no longer subject to births. (சிவ. போ.) 31)

cīvam (p. 191) s. Life, existence, சீவன். 2. Individuated spirit--as distinguished from the deity; though according to the Vedantic system, they are identical. 3. The soul of the universe, giving life, motion and energy to all beings, and things. The collective or universal, பரமாத் துமா. 4. Arc of a circle, also used for sine, அர்த்தச்சா. W. p. 351. JEEVA.--Note. This word is rarely found except in combination. சீவகளை, s. Animation, energy, cheerfulness, உயிர்ப்பு. 2. A very pretty air in melody, இராகக்காட்சி. (Colloq.) சீவகாருண்ணியம்--சீவதயை, s. Benevolence to living creatures human or brute. சீவகாருண்ணியன், s. One kind, merciful, gracious, &c., to living creatures. சீவகாருண்ணியதயாபரன். The kind, merciful, gracious, benevolent God. சீவகாலம்--சீவநாள், s. Life time. சீவகோடிகள், s. Myriads of living creatures. சீவசங்கட்டம், s. The struggle preceding the last breathing. See சங்கட்டம். சீவசாட்சி--சீவசாட்சிசைதன்னியம், s. The intelligent soul, or universal intellect, according to the Vedantic system, as witness of all things, and identified with the Supreme Being, or Brahm. சீவசுவாசம், s. The breath of life. சீவசெந்து, s. Living beings. சீவதருமம்--சீவபுண்ணியம், s. Meritorious deeds of men to living creatures as distinguished from சிவதருமம் or சிவ புண்ணியம், divine benevolence. சீவதாதா, s. A patron, a generous, liberal person. (c.) சீவதாரு, s. See சீவவிருட்சம். சீவதாது, s. One of the three pulses supposed to be felt in the wrist, named after the three humors. See நாடி. சீவதிசை, s. Influence of the planets calculated by the sign rising at the time of birth. 2. (fig.) Life time. சீவதேகம், s. Body, case, or receptacle of the soul in its different states of existence; being of three kinds. See சரீரத்தி ரயம். சீவத்துவம், s. That which belongs to life. சீவநாடி, s. The vital artery. See சீ வனி. சீவநாயகன், s. God, as the author or lord of life. சீவபிராணி--சீவப்பிராணி, s. A living being. (Pleonastic.) சீவபேதம், s. Varieties of living beings. எறும்புகடையானை தலையெண்பத்து நான்குநூறாயி ரஞ்சீவபேதம். From the ant to the elephant, there are 8,4, species of living creatures. சீவநாசம், s. Something detrimental to life. சீவந்தன், s. [loc.] One who is alive. சீவரட்சை, s. Preservation of life--as by the divine being, or by a benevolent person in famine, &c. 2. Final salvation, liberation from births. சீவரத்தினம், s. A living gem worn by Vishnu on his breast. 2. The gem in the head of the fabulous five headed cobra, being essential to its life. 3. A fabulous gem in the world of Indra, and elsewhere, said to give whatever is asked. சீவராசிகள், s. See சீவகோடிகள். சீவவதை, s. Taking away one's life. சீவவிருட்சம், s. [in Christ. usage.] The tree of life. சீவலயம், s. Death. See இலயம். சீவாத்துமா--சீவான்மா, s. A living soul. See ஆத்துமா. சீவாக்கினி, s. Animal heat. (R.) சீவாந்தம், s. One's last end, exit, departure from life; [ex அந்தம்.] சீவோபகாரம், s. Benefit to men or other creatures; [ex உபகாரம்.] சீவோற்பத்தி, s. Animation of the f&oe;tus in the womb. See உற்பத்தி. 21) *

cōkam (p. 212) s. (Sa. Soka.) Internal heat, loathing of food, nausea--supposed to be produced by the arrows of Kama, as one of the five symptoms of love-sickness, மன்மதன்கணைசெய்யுமவத்தை. 2. Languor, heaviness, lassitude, drowsiness, சோம்பல். 3. Fainting a swoon, loss of consciousness, சோர்வு. (c.) 4. Loss of personal consciousness and becoming identified with the deity.
